Welcome to St James' Park for a freezing FA Cup fifth-round showdown between Newcastle United and Chelsea. The team news is that Alan Shearer is leading the line for the home side, alongside Patrick Kluivert, while Nicky Butt has passed a fitness test and Jean Alain Boumsong is also returning from injury to take his place alongside Titus Bramble at the heart of Newcastle's defence.

Meanwhile, for the visitors, Mateja Kezman is playing as a lone front man, with Joe Cole supporting, while Carlo Cudicini, Ricardo Carvallho and Glen Johnson all start.

Newcastle get the match under way, kicking from right to left.

The two teams have met twice already this season, with Chelsea winning both times, scoring six goals without conceding any.

Early free kick to Newcastle after a late tackle on Kluivert by Smertin.

GOAL! Newcastle take an early lead after Kluivert heads home Robert's magnificent left-wing centre high into the net, giving Cudicini absolutely no chance.

The last trophy that Chelsea won was the FA Cup, back in 2000.

Snow has just started falling around the ground.

Carvallho gives the ball straight to Shearer in the middle of the Chelsea half and the striker has a go from 25 yards out that takes a deflection and goes out for a left-wing corner.

And Robert's inswinging corner causes all kinds of problems, leading to Gallas hacking it away for another corner.

This time Robert's delivery is disappointing and easily cleared by Gallas with his head at the near post.

1932 was the last time that Newcastle beat Chelsea in a knockout competition.

Shearer lets fly from 25 yardss out with a stinging effort that Cudicini palms away. However, the flag had already gone up for offside against the striker.

Free kick to Chelsea after a tackle from behind on Cole by his former team-mate Babayaro.

But, it comes to nothing and Newcastle are able to clear their lines.

Shearer breaks clear down the right wing after Dyer plays him through and after Carvallho heads the centre away, Butt slashes it high over the bar from the edge of the box.

That goal from Kluivert is Newcastle's first against Chelsea this season.

Left-wing corner to Chelsea, won after a marauding run by Bridge, whose cross deflected off the backtracking Dyer.

But, Cole's delivery is easily cleared at the near post by Bramble.

Smertin is playing the Makelele role this afternoon, just sitting in front of the back four.

A good passing move between Kluivert and Carr on the right flank results in Cudicini having to come and claim the right back's deep cross to Shearer at the back post.

Another free kick to Newcastle after Thiago brings down Jenas just inside their own half and Jenas immediately switches play to Robert on the left wing.

But, Chelsea win back possession and start a counter-attack through Jarosik, before Shearer breaks up the attack.

Great interchanging between Robert and Babayaro on the left puts the Frenchman clear, but his low centre is cleared by Gallas at the near post.

Free kick to Chelsea on halfway after Shearer bundles over Smertin, but Johnson hooks the ball straight out of play looking for Jarosik.

Geremi has won his team a right-wing corner, taken by the Cameroon international, but cleared at the near post by Boumsong.

Kezman hits the crossbar after the home defence goes completely asleep from Carvalho's deflected left-wing centre, but the Serbs' chip bounces top safety off the underside of the bar.

And immediately Newcastle break up field through Shearer, who plays in Dyer through the right-hand channel of the area, but his centre is headed clear by Carvallho.

Chelsea are really coming back into proceedings at the moment and are looking far more dangerous.

Kezman's only Premiership goal has come against Newcastle, in their 4-0 defeat at the Bridge.

Robert is flatened on the left-hand touchline by Johnson, but referee Halsey waves play on rather surprisingly.

Without Bellamy, Newcastle really do not have that electric pace up front to scare defences.

Remember, Chelsea have still not scored a goal since Robben's injury against an eleven-man side.

Chelsea have got a lot of their first-teamers on the bench in case of emergencies this afternoon, such as Duff and Gudjohnsen.

The crowd are just a little on edge at the moment, probably because the home side have thrown away so many 1-0 leads at St James' in recent weeks.

Given makes a great one-handed save after Kezman's dummy had given space for Jarosik to drive in a low effort from the edge of the area. Corner.

Geremi takes the resulting right-wing corner, but it only finds a Newcastle defender and they clear their lines.

Carr does extremly well at the back post to stop Jarosik getting in a clean header from Johnson's pin-point right-wing centre.

Amazingly, the last time Newcastle won the FA Cup was in 1955, the same year that Chelsea last won the League!

Bramble makes a fantastic lunging tackle on Jarosik as the midfielder broke through into the area. The crowd really enjoyed that.

Dyer is cynically prevented from collecting a return pass from Shearer and wins his side a free kick. The Portugal international becomes the first player to be booked in the game.

Carr drives the free kick into the heart of the box, but Jarosik gets up well to beat Shearer to the ball.

Another good break by Newcastle finds Carr free on the right wing and his excellent cross to the back post requires Johnson to make a great defensive header to prevent Shearer from scoring.

Newcastle really want to hold on to this lead until half-time.

The referee has had to change the ball to a more visible yellow one because the snow is now really coming down hard.

The fourth official has indicated that there will be one minute of time to be added on at the end of this first period.

Babayaro does very well to dispossess Johnson as the right back attempted to make progress into the Newcastle box.

And that is half-time in this FA Cup fifth-round tie at St James', with Newcastle leading 1-0 thanks to Kluivert's early header.

Chelsea get this second period under way, kicking from right to left.

Chelsea have made three changes at the break, bringing on Gudjohnsen, Lampard and Duff and taking off Geremi, Cole and Thiago.

Gudjohnsen has scored six times in his last seven games against Chelsea.

Amazingly, Newcastle have not managed to win a game 1-0 at home this season.

Already Lampard has made a difference, sliding a 40-yard through-ball for Kezman that just skips up off the turf on its way through to Given.

Bridge is currently down injured on the turf after a tackle on him by the backtracking Shearer. It seemed harmless enough on the replay, but the full back is in real trouble.

Bridge is being stretchered off with his knee in a brace and Chelsea have already made all their substitutions and will have to play the final 38 minutes of this game with ten men.

That has really given the home supporters a real lift as they can taste a sixth-round place now.

Chelsea have reverted to three at the back now in the absence of the injured Bridge.

Robert makes a fool out of Johnson on the left flank, easily going past him, but he makes a hash of the cross with Shearer waiting unmarked at the back post. What a waste.

Again, Robert is set clear down the left wing and with all the time in the world, his pull-back is smuggled away to safety by Gallas. A close call.

It has been reported that Bridge's injury is a shin problem.

Kezman has done well to win his team a left-wing corner off Carr.

Duff's corner is well headed clear at the back post by Boumsong, but the ball breaks to Lampard, who fires in a low shot that Given saves well on his line.

Half an hour to go and despite Chelsea being down to ten men, you still feel that Newcastle need a second goal to feel safe.

And, to prove that point, Gudjohnsen breaks clear into the Newcastle half, but cannot quite find Duff with his through-pass as Carr intercepts.

Robert again is set clear down the left wing and again his centre fails to find his intended target of Kluivert and Johnson gets in a clearance.

Kezman drives in a dangerous ball across the Newcastle box, but it evades everyone and rolls away for a throw-in.

Chelsea have won a left-wing corner after Carr heads away Lampard's chipped centre to the back post.

And, from Duff's centre, Jarosik gets up well, but cannot direct his header on target and Newcastle have a goal kick.

Newcastle make their first change of the game, taking off the hamstrung Shearer and replacing him with Ameobi.

Kezman very nearly beats Newcastle's off side trap for a clean run through on Given, but Carr just about gets away with it.

Souness makes his second change of the game, taking off Dyer and replacing him on the right wing with Milner.

Chelsea are really dominating proceedings at present and do not look like they are currently down to ten men.

Apparently, Bridge has gone to hospital with a suspected broken ankle, while Dyer went off with a tight hamstring.

Half-chance for Kezman, but his snap shot from just inside the area is pulled well wide of the post.

And now Gudjohnsen has a shot from distance that is straight at Given and he easily claims the effort.

Great chance for Newcastle to wrap up this match after Kluivert puts Carr clean through down the inside right, but Duff does brilliantly to track back and get in a challenge to prevent the full back from getting in a clear shot at goal. Corner.

And, from the resulting right-wing corner, Cudicini does well under pressure to palm the ball away.

Chelsea have 15 minutes to keep alive their dreams of the Quadruple.

Jenas is now the home team's skipper and he is really going to have to lead from the front in these closing stages.

Duff appears to be limping quite badly at the moment, obviously a result of making that great tackle on Carr a few minutes ago.

Gudjohnsen tries to fire a cute little ball across the face of Newcastle's six-yard box towards the lurking Kezman, only for Given to claim the ball.

Ameobi is very nearly put through on goal, but the pass just skips up off the wet surface and Cudicini is able to come and claim.

Robert gains possession, hugging the left-hand touchline, but he badly overhits his centre and it goes straight out of play for a Chelsea goal kick. Dreadful.

I wonder if Mourinho will be regretting making all three substitutions at the break?

Robert does well to win his team a left-wing corner off Jarosik, much to the home crowds' obvious pleasure.

But, not for the first time this afternoon, Robert's delivery is poor and Carvallho is able to clear his lines at the near post.

Kezman works himself some space in the box for a shot, but Bramble comes across to make a great block and the ball deflects for a corner.

But, Lampard's left-wing corner is headed clear at the back post by Boumsong, a vital defensive clearance for the home team.

Newcastle can break on a quick counter involving Milner, who has three options to pick from, but does not choose the right one and Smertin does well to intercept.

Kluivert has won his side a free kick in a very dangerous position, 20 yards out and dead central, after the Dutchman was tripped by Smertin.

The fourth official has indicated that there will be five more minutes of injury time to be played at the end of this second period.

Robert's free kick deflects off the wall and goes out for a left-wing corner.

And, after the initial corner is cleared by Carvallho at the near post, the ball is worked to Robert on the left wing and his devilish centre is almost turned into his own net by Johnson. Another corner.

From the resulting right-wing corner, Newcastle work the ball through to Ameobi with a clean run on goal and he is taken out by the onrushing Cudicini.

And referee Halsey has decided to send off the Italian keeper, judging that the striker had been denied a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Chelsea are now down to nine men, with Johnson going in goal and facing a free kick right on the edge of the area, to be taken by Robert.

And the stand-in keeper makes a brilliant save with his body from the Frenchman's fiercly-struck free kick.

That is the final whistle at St James, where Chelsea's dreams of the Quadruple have been ended, with Newcastle's 1-0 win sending them through to the FA Cup quarter-finals.
