Chelsea have made two enforced changes from Tuesday's 3-1 loss in Monaco, bringing in Joe Cole and Geremi in midfield for the injured Jesper Gronjkaer and Scott Parker, while Newcastle keep an unchanged side from Thursday's 1-1 draw at home with Marseille in the first leg of their Uefa Cup semi-final.

   There is a cracking atmosphere at Newcastle, and referee Rob Styles gets the match under way, with Chelsea kicking off, playing from left to right.

   Chelsea have a throw-in, taken by Mario Melchiot, and the ball breaks to Cole, who shoots high and wide from fully 30 yards out.

   Chelsea win a free kick on the edge of their area, taken by skipper Marcel Desailly deep into the Newcastle half, but it is cleared for a throw-in.

   Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri looks fairly relaxed on the touch-line, as does his opposite number, Sir Bobby Robson.

   Marco Ambrosio clears upfield, and Cole plays a neat one-two with his England international team-mate Frank Lampard, before cooly sliding the ball under Shay Given to give the Blues a 1-0 lead. GOAL.

    After Wayne Bridge's cross is cleared, the ball breaks to Claude Makele off the referee, but he blazes horribly high and wide.

    Most of Chelsea's attacks are emanating from their right flank, but Melchiot gives the ball away and Newcastle can break, winning a right-wing corner.

    Robert's corner is headed clear by Crespo at his near post, and when Ambrose feeds Robert, the French winger cuts in and tests Ambrosio at the near post with a stinging drive that he does well to hold on to.

    GOAL! Ameobi scores a quite sensational equaliser, collecting a ball on his chest, turning Desailly, before rifling in an unstoppable shot past Ambrosio's outstretched left hand.

    That goal has really sent St. James' into raptures and the referee blows his whistle to end what has been a highly entertaining first half, adding on no injury time. HALF-TIME.
