Newcastle United – Chelsea

1. The Toon can steal a march on Manchester United but they'll need to be on their mettle to beat Chelsea. Join us for another early kick-off at 12.30 GMT.

2. Jonathan Woodgate lines up for his maiden appearance as a Newcastle player. Craig Bellamy returns for the Toon too. Hugo Viana replaces the suspended Laurent Robert.

3. No Marcel Desailly for Chelsea, or Gianfranco Zola, who'll be riding pine for most of the game on the bench. John Terry and Eidur Gudjohnsen step in. Le Saux is out and Celestine Babayaro will play left-back.

   Chelsea get the game underway - ref Jeff Winter puts his whistle to his lips and blows. Jody Morris chases down the wing. Aaron Hughes concedes a corner.

   Hasselbaink takes and Shearer hoofs away. Cudicini has the ball.

   Bernard forced into an error. Then O'Brien fouls Morris, who'll take the kick.

   Solano forced to head behind. Corner to Chelsea

   Again Shearer clears the ball. Gronkjaer makes a complete hash of his control.

   O'Brien's hoof finds Viana, whose flick comes to naught.

    Woodgate gets his first touch - a simple pass to O'Brien and receives a cheer.

    Solano bursts down the right. Bellamy slipped in - Shearer dummies and Viana gets a chance to shoot, but deliberates to fire over.

    O'Brien clears under pressure. Melchiot takes a long throw. Stanic's flick nearly found Gronkjaer but the ref spots a push.

    Bellamy chases Cudicini down but the Italian keeps the ball in his area. Bernard, at the other end, nearly sells Given short.

    Long pass finds Gronkjaer, who looked to be clear but Woodgate shows his pace to give away a corner.

    Ball crossed in. Gudjohnsen swings at it and flashes past the goal - a great chance.

    Newcastle yet to be in the game. Cudicini claims the ball when it's overhit.

    Great link work between Viana and Dyer gets Shearer down the wing - he mishits. Better though.

    Viana is fouled. He'll take a free-kick. Cudicini slipped but no-one could stop Gallas clearing the ball.

    Free-kick to be knocked into the Newcastle area. Given punches clear under pressure.

    Dyer goes for a give-and-go. He chases hard and is baulked - a free-kick.

    Hacked away by Lampard. Viana shows a feint and shoots.

    Ball is launched towards Bellamy but Terry knocks clear. Viana is fouled by Melchiot.

    Long pass seemed to have Hasselbaink in the clear but Given runs out to head away - great keeping.

    Viana fouls Gronkjaer who cried out in agony.

    Hasselbaink knocks it in. Solano clears. Bellamy gets away but is fouled.

    Shearer dispossesses Gallas but his cross is well headed away by Stanic.

    Gronkjaer fouls Bernard when chasing a long ball.

    Viana gets the ball but is closed down. Dyer tries a through ball but his pass is intercepted.

    Not a great deal happening as yet. Plenty of set-pieces - of which we have another as a Chelsea corner will be taken by Hasselbaink.

    Woodgate clears the ball. Chelsea continue to press. Babayaro overruns the ball.

    Bernard is fouled. The ball will be chipped into the area. But Cudicini caught the ball.

    Through-ball stopped by John Terry's sliding clearance.

    Given nearly lost it when Hasselbaink chased hard.

    Terry shepherds out the ball.

    Bellamy fouls Morris as he looked to turn defence into attack. Given has the ball back though.

    Bellamy gets a throw. Viana swiftly loses the ball and concedes a foul.

    Lampard's chip finds Given. Viana looks to have hurt his shoulder - the injury that has kept him out for much of the season.

    But the Portugese youngster comes back on.

    A foul on Gary Speed. Another free-kick. And another corner - greeted by roars from the Toon faithful.

    Hasselbaink knocks behind. Then, when the corner is taken short, Solano chips in and Hasselbaink, inexplicably, dive-heads in through his own net. 1-0 to Newcastle! Bizarre scenes.

    Lucky for Newcastle - they haven't deserved it. But they'll take it and their supporters are joyous.

    Shearer's through-ball fails. Ball goes back to Bernard. Stanic is fouled by Solano.

    Melchiot plays through the defence. Stanic makes a mistake but Gudjohnsen gets a chance but can only fire at Given, who needs a second attempt to claim the ball.

    Gronkjaer's pace and skill wins him a corner.

    Ball played in. Newcastle can't get it clear and Lampard volleys in from the edge of the area. A splendid finish and an equaliser. 1-1!

    A deserved scoreline for Chelsea. But Bellamy gets a chance to cross. Shearer lurked but the ball is headed away by Gallas. Good defending but Chelsea have a corner.

    Headed away by Melchiot. Solano takes a throw. Deflected cross beaten away. Chelsea break. Hasselbaink gives it Gronkjaer, who, with players running in, chooses to shoot.

    Given gets it away. Gallas outpaces Bellamy at the other end - a rarity indeed.

    Terry is quick to anticipate Bellamy's flick.

    Shearer misdirects a header. Lampard's chip finds Hasselbaink but the Dutchman's first touch shanks the ball away when a volley at goal looked a possibilty.

    Chip from Solano evades all his team-mates.

    Bernard's pass finds Bellamy in an offside position. He chased hard only for a flag to pull him back.

    Bellamy again penalised for a push - looked to be a poor descision - the fans think so.

    Shearer gets around the back. His toe-ender is headed behind. He looked to be fouled in the area. No penalty - the crowd again unhappy.

    Into stoppage time - Shearer penalised this time.

    The ref, not Mr Popular, blows for half-time. A half where Newcastle rode their luck ends in a 1-1 scoreline.

    Bellamy and Dyer get the game underway once more. Hit long for Shearer to chase. He doesn't make it.

    Hasselbaink, still unhappy about his OG one thinks, concedes a foul.

    Gronkjaer bursts away and nearly took it past Given. Woodgate does well to sweep up.

    Stanic makes a ludicrous claim for a penalty. At the other end Bellamy gets away but Gallas stops him. Bellamy limps away.

    Free-kick played in and Woodgate directs a header at goal. Cleared away.

    Hasselbaink makes a claim for a corner - rightly so - but receives nothing.

    Long throw headed away by Woodgate. Gallas does similarly well.

    Shearer gets a chance, in the clear. Babayaro benefits from a poor touch to clear. Bellamy drills in a shot which Cudicini claims with ease.

    Toon domination now. Lovely move sees Bernard released by a lovely ball from Viana. The over-lapping full-back dinks the ball over Cudicini. 2-1!

    Bad ball from Melchiot completely misses Stanic. Chelsea look listless at present.

    Terry does well to escape Bellamy. But the Welshman gets another chance. Newcastle choose to play the ball. Viana loses out to Melchiot.

    Kieron Dyer is scythed by Morris. Respite brings two subs for Chelsea. Zola and Zenden replace Gronkjaer and Stanic.

    Bellamy plays it short to Viana. A block tackle comes in to take the ball away.

    Gudjohnsen released by Zola, he holds it up. Zenden, with his first touch, fires just wide. Good move from the Blues.

    Lampard shows neat skill to break up an attack. Hasselbaink gets in a cross. Gudjohnsen looked to be nudged. No dice from the ref. Viana limps off to be replaced by Titus Bramble.

    Melchiot fouls Bellamy. Another chance to bend in a free-kick.

    Headed away. Bramble takes his place at the heart of defence, a reshuffle sees Bernard pushed forward with O'Brien switched to full-back.

    Bellamy forced to play back to Given. Moments later the keeper does well to beat Zenden's chase down the wing.

    Dyer shows ability and guile to get Solano away. But Bellamy, awaiting the cross, is offside. Babayaro runs off, to be replaced by Carlton Cole.

    Shearer penalised for a push on the two opponents he was trying to beat. At the other end Cole baulks Given when a high ball is shanked high into the air by Bramble.

    Hard chase by Speed but he's stopped. Chelsea can't get away though.

    Sliding cross came in. Bernard challenged by Hasslebaink - unfairly says the ref.

    Kieron Dyer, after another fine display, is replaced by Shola Ameobi.

    Gudjohnsen cuts in. He can't get away from Griffin who got back well.

     Morris lacks the pace to chase a ball down the flanks. Chelsea look to be running out of time and ideas.

     Into stoppage time. Shola Ameobi seizes on a slip to get in. He slides the ball left but misses his intended target of Shearer.

     Bobby Robson looks anxious but his team look to be coasting. Though Zola gets space to shoot. He can't hit the target though and misses.

     Cole and Gallas nearly combine to get a chance. Did Woodgate push Cole? No, says the ref. Chelsea had a shout.

     Long hoof from Given is the last of the match. Newcastle take their place at joint second in the table.

     A great win for Newcastle with a better second-half display. Woodgate made a great debut. But though Bobby Robson will be delighted with a hard-fought win, Chelsea and Ranieri, after successive losses, will be unhappy.
