This derby didn't need any added spice but when manager Harry Redknapp quit Pompey for arch-rivals Southampton he did just that.

Pompey start with new goalkeeper Chalkias in nets and that could prove a risky gamble.

And we are off. Prutton crosses to the near post and Chalkias gets an early touch.

Berger is fouled by Lundekvam. Yakubu spins past his defender but his touch knocks the ball out for a goalkick.

The Southampton fans are taunting their rivals with the 'Harry and Jim' song that Pompey made so famous.

6'7" Crouch wins a header and nods it down to Prutton on the right (a ploy I'm sure we'll see a lot off) but the midfielder's cross is poor.

Cisse knicks the ball off Crouch - the Saints fans think it should have been a foul.

O'Neil finds some space on the edge of the box. He thinks about a shot once, twice and then gets tackled as he procrastinates.

Kamara drives into the box from the left. Lundekvam slides in with a perfectly timed, and inportant, tackle in the box.

Portsmouth are edging the early exchanges and Telfer has given away a freekick on the edge of the box.

Berger lashes it through the wall, Niemi dives to his left but the ball whistles wide of the post. Pompey want a corner but it's a goalkick.

Prutton is late and high with a tackle on Taylor and becomes the first player to get booked.

Yakubu turns Davenport and fires off a shot that Higginbotham deflects onto the roof of the net. Siants deal with the resulting corner.

Hughes breaks up a Saints attack and Kamara drives forward. The striker plays in Yakubu, who slots the ball past Niemi, but the flag is up for offside.

Hughes shoots as he is falling down and scoops the ball high into the stands....Portsmouth are still imposing themselves on the game.

De Zeeuw deals with yet another hopeful cross. Saints have failed to test Pompey's new keeper as yet.

Yakubu flicks the ball to Kamara, whose return pass is cut out by Davenport.

Crouch with a knockdown to Svensson. The Swede dances past two defenders but delays his shot for too long and Stefanovic blocks.

Saints win a corner. Davenport wins a header at the far post and a floundering Chalkias is relieved to see the ball sail over the bar.

Portsmouth keep possession with the back four.

Berger gets bored and hits a speculative 30-yard shot that gives Niemi some good practice.

Svensson fools Primus with a drag-back and the defender hacks him down. Primus escapes a booking.

Svensson's delivery from the freekick is poor. Crouch draws a foul from De Zeeuw and Saints have another chance.

The referee gets the wall back as Higginbotham waits on the edge of the D.......after all that he smacks it straight into the wall.

Svensson gives the ball away with a loose pass. Berger flicks a pass to Kamara, who blazes a shot over the angle of the goal.

The Pompey fans will be the happier of the two, altough their team are not finding it quite as easy as before.

Davenport brings the ball out of defence. He gets a nose bleed at being so high up the pitch, panics and loses possession.

Prutton is trying his best to get things going for Southampton. The midfielder is battling all over the pitch and is the only Saints player who really looks to have any fight at the moment.

The physical edge that is associated with a derby like this is lacking. The game is a bit pedestrian at the moment.

O'Neil attempts a one-two with Yakubu. The return ball is too heavy and Niemi lets it run out for a goalkick.

Primus stops Svensson's foray down the left flank with a foul. Oakley will deliver the freekick...

...Chalkias punches weakly but his defenders scramble the ball away.

Southampton's delivery from the flanks has been diabolical. Yet another cross drifts out for a goalkick.

Prutton chases down a lost cause. Stefanovic guides the ball out of play.

Well it may have started brightly but all the pace has been sapped out of the match...oh hang on! No, false alarm.

Telfer pumps the ball up to Crouch and the Pompey defence easily deal with the danger - as they have all match.

Kamara comes short to start an attack. Taylor dribbles past two players and Kamara finshes the move with a long-range blast over the bar.

Crouch expertly brings the ball down in the box. The tall striker's cut-back is cut out but it was a spark of hope for the Saints fans.

The Pompey defence back-off Telfer and the veteran fires off a testing shot that draws the first real save of the match from Chalkias.

Signs of life from Southampton, but yet another poor delivery from a corner alleviates any pressure they had applied.

The ref brings the half to a close and the fans literally produce a sigh of relief.

Well it started okay, dropped off a little and Telfer's 30-yard shot was probably the most exciting occurrence of the first-half.

It's not the match we all expected. Hopefully there will be some blood and thunder after the break.

Pompey get the second-half underway.

Primus' clearance smacks Svensson in the face. The Swede is okay to continue.

Davenport misjudges O'Neil's cross, Yakubu is caught unaware and can't get a shot off. Pompey win a corner.

Niemi claws the delivery out from under the bar - Pompey nearly got lucky with that.

Telfer crosses for Crouch. Chalkias is caught underneath the ball but fortunately for the keeper the ball sails over Crouch's head too.

De Zeeuw mops up at the back. The Pompey skipper has been excellent so far.

Berger drives into the box but his shot is straight at Davenport's shins - he should have done better.

Davenport's header drops to O'Neil, who controls the ball and hits a looping shot that drops onto the roof of the net.

Crouch's shot is blocked by two Pompey defenders and the ball bounces clear to Oakley. The midfielder sets himself and fires into the top corner from 25-yards. GOAL!

That's the goal we have all been waiting for and what a goal it was. A measured finish from Oakley.

Pompey look to hit back quickly. Kamara races into the area and takes a tumble, he was always looking for a penalty and the ref has given one!

It looks like a very soft penalty to give, but Pompey have a great chance to level the score.

Yakubu steps up to despatch the penalty. He sends Niemi the wrong way and strokes the ball into the back of the net. GOAL!

Prutton wins a corner, but the ref gives throw. Delap launches a long throw towards Crouch, the keeper flaps once again and the big man's effort is headed off the line.

Chalkias is caught in no man's land once again. Higginbotham acrobatically hooks a deflected shot into the empty net but the flag is up for offside.

Lundekvam takes down Kamara and now we seem to have the match that the hype promised.

Kamara and Prutton are having words, and have done since the award of the penalty. Prutton has already been booked so he needs to be careful.

Southampton make a change. Off goes Nilsson, who has been very quiet, and on comes Jones.

The sub gets his head to Oakley's corner but Chalkias plucks his effort out of the air - accompanied by 'ooos' from the home crowd.

Telfer sprints down the right flank and crosses. Chalkias comes off his line and claims the ball.

Taylor comes a long way forward, scoops the ball over the defence for Kamara but the height on the hoist allows the defence to get back.

Berger fires the ball into Yakubu, who holds off Telfer in the area and shoots low to the far corner. Niemi, at full stretch, palms the ball past his post

Crouch shows he is good on the deck, as well as in the air, with a little shimmy to get past Stefanovic and then shoots high and wide.

Kamara stumbles in midfield and grabs the ball expecting a freekick. The ref doesn't agree and produces a yellow card for handball....

...Kamara was also booked during the post-penalty award rumble and so he's off. Pompey are down to ten men.

Jones gets on with the game and draws another save from Chalkias. The substitute has looked very lively since he came on.

Harry makes another change and will be hoping that Jakobsson can have the same effect as Jones.

Southampton are really going for it now against the reduced ranks of Pompey.

Jakobsson, on for Oakley, passes it left. Higginbotham patiently probes that flank until he loses possession and gives away a foul.

Primus catches Svensson a little late but the ref plays the advantage. Crouch smacks a shot against De Zeeuw and Southampton want a penalty for handball.....they don't get it.

Jones gets booked for bravado. His response is to chest the ball down in the box and fire a low shot just wide of Chalkias' left-hand post.

Pompey are going to make a change. Yakubu leaves the pitch to a chorus of boos and Fuller comes on.

Fuller has only just come on but has already had an impact with two runs at the defence. He just needs more support.

Fuller probes the right and Lundekvam can only block it out as far as Berger. The Pompey midfielder sets himself for the shot and Lundekvam recovers to block his effort.

Berger returns the favour for Fuller, who tries to blast the ball home from close-range and skies his shot over the bar - a terrible miss. All he needed to do was poke it towards goal.

Pompey haven't given up as yet, they can sense a famous victory at St Mary's.

Berger starts another attack but his pass is poor and Lundekvam snuffs out the danger. Southampton slow the game down.

Fuller takes a tumble outside the box. He was looking for a freekick in a dangerous area but the ref waves away his claim.

Prutton crosses as he falls over in the box. Taylor sticks out an arm to block the ball....the ref hasn't spotted it but the linesman is flagging for a penalty.

After a short conference between the officials the penalty is given. Pompey are furious and a yellow card is brandished towards a melee of blue shirts.

After it has all died down Crouch steps up to take the spot-kick.....

...Crouch has had to wait a long time to take this, but he steps up to stroke the ball into the bottom right-hand corner. GOAL!

Surley that is the winning goal. De Zeeuw gets booked for a foul as he attempts to drag his team back into the match...but it's all too late. The final whistle blows.

It's all over. Southampton are into the next round of the FA Cup thanks to a dubious penalty, although you could argue Pompey's was also controversial.

A dull first-half was eclipsed by an excellent second-half. Three goals, a sending off and a last minute winner.

Former Pompey striker Crouch scored the winner for his former Pompey manager. The Portsmouth fans will be well and truly gutted.
