3. Everton: Martyn, Hibbert, Stubbs, Weir, Pistone, Cahill, Osman, Gravesen, Carsley, Kilbane, Bent. Subs: Watson, Ferguson, McFadden, Yobo, Wright.

   Everton get the game underway. Kicking from left to right.

   Cahill collects a deep cross and hoists the ball into the Newcastle box. Osman fouls Bramble as he jumps for the ball.

   Hibbert crosses for Bent at the far post. The striker can't get full power on his header and drifts agonizingly wide of the post. Good start by the visitors.

7. 4'

   Dyer drivers forward. Bowyer shoots on the turn from the edge of the box. His effort is high and wide.

   Kluivert sets his strike partner racing clear of the Everton defence. Bellamy takes his shot early and strokes the ball past Martyn. 1-0.

   Nobody was going to catch Bellamy there, and the Wales striker has made his point to the manager.

    Bent hits it out wide for Osman. Bramble spots the danger and gets there ahead of the Everton midfielder.

    Bramble hits his clearence against Gravesen, but the error-prone defender keeps his cool and plays the ball back to his keeper, Given.

    The rain has started to come down at St James' Park and Kilbane's flick-on skids off the greasey surface for a goalkick.

    Bernard goes to ground to win a freekick 30-yards out. Robert stands over the ball...

    ...The Frenchman shoots low and hard but Martyn is equal to the strike and keeps hold of the ball with Bellamy lurking.

15. 14'

    Dyer tussles with Carsley and Everton are awarded a freekick. Stubbs launches the ball into the box to no avail.

16. 15'

    Everton are finding it difficult to keep hold of the ball. It has all got a bit scrappy in the midfield.

    Bramble launches the ball forward for Bellamy. Stubbs uses his body to block the striker and Martyn clears the danger.

18. 18'

    Cahill takes a heavy touch and fouls Jenas as he attempts to atone for the mistake. He becomes the first player to get a yellow card.

    Jenas advances down the left-wing and gets a great return ball from Kluivert as he bursts into the box. Martyn pulls off a great save to turn Jenas' low shot wide of the post.

    Bernard fouls Osman in the left fullback position. Carsley delivers the freekick to the near post and Newcastle scramble the ball clear.

    Cahill has seen a lot of the ball but has not done much with it as yet. He wins a freekick off Bramble.

    Bellamy pounces on the loose ball. Weir spots the danger and makes a well timed tackle. Newcastle win a corner.

    Gravesen looses the ball on the break and then fouls Bowyer on the half-way line. He is lucky to escape a booking.

    The Toon midfield keep it on the deck but can't find a way through Everton's scampering defence.

    Cahill stands it up to the back post. Osman is beaten to the header and gets a wack from Taylor for his efforts.

    Kluivert rides a challenge from and steers another exquisite ball forward, this time for Dyer. Weir recovers to muscle Dyer off the ball in the box.

    The danger hasn't past. Dyer crosses from the right and Jenas produces a scissor-kick shot that smacks into the crossbar.

    Newcastle have dominated proceedings since their early goal. Everton can only muster the odd break on the counter-attack.

    Bowyer lines up a 20-yard shot. Carsley charges down his effort, but Newcastle's attack is relentless.

    Gravesen and then Kilbane give the ball away cheaply. Everton cannot get out of their own half.

    Cahill gets over the half-way line but Bernard deals with his cross with ease.

    Osman drives at the Toon defence, he rides two challenges and then plays a sloppy pass straight to Aaron Hughes.

    A bout of head tennis in the centre-circle is about as exciting as it has got over the past few minutes.

    Gravesen chases down a lost cause and manages to win a throw deep in Newcastle territory. Pistone takes a poor touch and has to play it back into his own half.

    Bellamy races down the left and whips in a low cross. Pistone diverts it towards the edge of the box, where Kluivert is waiting.....

    ...Kluivert smashes a low shot that beats goalkeeper Martyn but Stubbs is back to clear of the line.

    Gravesen drifts in a deep cross, Weir heads back across goal and Stubbs' hurried shot is blocked behind for a corner.

    Gravesen lobs into the box and Kluivert concedes another corner.

    Stubbs is first to the ball again, but his header drops into a swarm of players. Cahill wraps his foot around a shot that trickles inches wide of the post.

    Cahill powers a header wide from Hibbert's cross. Everton have really got back into the game in the last ten minutes.

    Martyn launches the ball upfield for Bent, who has the beating of Bramble but is flagged offside.

    Hibbert scythes down Bernard, who had tipped the ball past the defender. Hibbert gets booked and Newcastle have a freekick.

    Robert whips it in, Everton clear and the referee blows for half-time.

44. Newcastle had the majority of the play and deserve their 1-0 lead. Everton fought back well towards the break and will be looking to continue their efforts in the second-half.

    Newcastle get the second-half underway. No changes have been made to either side.

    Cahill controls the ball on his chest. The Australian can't find space for a shot and Hughes smuggles the ball clear.

    Dyer lets it run for Taylor, whose low cross is cut out by Stubbs.

    Cahill finds Kilbane, who is taken out by Bramble. The Newcastle defender gets booked and Kilbane gets treatment.

    Dyer breaks from the edge of his own box. the formidable duo of Gravesen and Carsley deal with the danger but concede a corner.

    It's taken short. Bernard fires off a 30-yard shot that Martyn smothers low at his near post.

    Dyer races down the right flank, cuts inside and finds the side-netting with a low shot.

    This half has started like the first and Bellamy looks to return the favour for Kluivert. The Dutchman fires high and wide from the edge of the box.

    Bent gets fouled on the edge of the box, another dangerous set-piece coming up for Everton....

    ...Carsley whips the ball up and over the wall, Given can only watch as it hits the back of the net. 1-1.

    A beautiful strike from Carsley but it was the wrong bald Everton player for my fantasy league team.

    Bent gets caught up with some handbags in middle of the pitch and gets booked.

    Bellamy scampers along the edge of the box to make space for a shot. The Welshman smacks a wicked shot that beats Martyn and crashes off the post. So close!

    The referee awards a soft freekick to Newcastle, who take it quickly as they frantically push for another goal.

    Robert can't find a way through Everton's back four. Bernard attempts a through-ball that trickles out for a goalkick.

    It's all Newcastle again at the moment. Bellamy nutmegs Stubbs and wins a throw by the corner flag.

    Kluivert sets up Bowyer, who scuffs his shot. Bellamy has been winded by a challenge earlier in the move and is complaining to the ref.

    Everton are still under pressure. Carsley lashes the ball into row Z to earn a breather.

    Gravesen plays his way out of danger with some silky skills in the centre-circle.

    Bent and Bernard lie injured from seperate incidents and the game stops so they can both get treatment.

    Newcastle claim a penalty for a push by Carsley on Taylor - but it was outside the box.

    Robert fires in a cross that causes mayhem in the Everton box. A combination of Stubbs and Martyn sees off the danger.

    Taylor scythes down Kilbane with a late challenge, but the ref doesn't deem it to be a foul - it was.

    Kluivert sets Dyer free, who finds Bellamy. The pacey striker puts Hibbert on his backside but scuffs his cross/shot and the chance of a quick break goes begging.

    Carsely lashes it clear to Gravesen, who plays a perfect through-ball for Bent.....

    ...Bent out-paces Bramble, rounds Given but hits his shot into the side-netting. He should have scored.

    Everton are not settling for the draw and Big Dunc is warming up on the sidelines. He is a former Newcastle player of course.

    Newcastle build through Jenas and Kluivert, who has been outstanding today. Bellamy can't decide whether to pass or shoot and the move breaksdown on the edge of the box.

    Cahill shoves Bowyer off the ball and Newcastle have a freekick in shooting range....

    ...Robert whips his shot past the wall, but Weir makes a block and then heads clear.

    The Magpies make an offensive change. Ameobi replaces Bowyer.

    Jenas races to the byline and cuts it back across the face of goal. Cahill sticks out a leg and prevents a certain goal for Kluivert or Bellamy.

    Dyer takes a tumble in the box under a challenge from Kilbane. The Newcastle player was already on his way down before the tackle came in and the refs waves away his penalty claim.

    Everton make a change. Cahill is replaced by Watson, another ex-Toon player.

    Dyer drives forward but can't get past the bulk of Carsley. Hibbert heads clear as the Everton defence hold firm.

    Big Dunc is ready to come on. He replaces Bent and gets a round of boos as he takes to the pitch.

    Kluivert is free on the right and finds Bellamy unmarked in the box. The Welshman takes a touch and smashes his shot into Pistone's back. Bellamy should have scored.

    Bramble gives the ball away. Osman plays a one-two with Gravesen and fires in a low shot that Given palms past the post.

    Bellamy collects a pass from Bernard, drives at Weir and then lashes a thunderous shot wide.

84. 90'

    Everton run down the clock with another change. Gravesen is replaced by Yobo.

85. 90'

    Given hoists the ball forward for one last attack.....the whistle blows for full-time and it's all over.

86. Newcastle had the better of the play and squandered some good chances so they will be disappointed with a home draw.

87. Eveton battled hard, stuck to their game plan and predictably scored from a set piece.
