1. Good evening all and welcome to live coverage of Spurs v Manchester United from White Hart Lane.

4. Right, hopefully plenty of you have hopped over from the live blog and we can now sit back and enjoy what should be a superb game from White Hart Lane...

5. Harry Redknapp has gone super-attacking with Defoe, Keane, Crouch and Lennon all starting. Manchester United's midfield looks a bit old and lightweight too what with Scholes and Giggs supporting perennial disappointment Anderson.

   GOAL! Defoe!

   An unbelievable start for Spurs! Crouch challenged for a lofted cross, it looped in the air and Defoe smashes it into the net with a bycicle kick!

   Well, well, well. That typifies Spurs' brilliant start to the season, all attacking players involved and a lethal finish from Defoe.

    United hit back with a slick move and a shooting chance for Scholes. He blasts wide from 25 yards though...

    Fletcher has a great chance to equalise, Giggs crosses and the Scot waits for the ball to drop before forcing Cudicini into a smart save from ten yards.

    Berbatov is jeered as he gets the ball, then cheered after Palacios wins it off him.

    That was a superb goal from goal, a real touch of class. How Emile Heskey got the nod to start for England ahead of him in midweek I will never know.

    Crouch has a pop now after taking the ball down smartly on his chest. His volley spirals wide of the target...

    The way this game has started it could be 5-5 by half time. Here's hoping...

    Crouch slices down Fletcher after his ball for Palacios was intercepted. Scholes then looks for Rooney but his pass is just a little strong..

    A slick turn from Defoe is followed by a superb, whipped ball into the box but Vidic gets there ahead of Crouch.

    Lennon fails with an ambitious flick over Evra before Defoe fouls Scholes. Keane has started on the left for Spurs by the way.

    Neat work from Crouch as he chests down, toe pokes the ball away from Vidic and lashes a volley towards goal. Foster is right behind it though.

    Palacios catches Berbatov late and Rooney implores the ref to book him. No card shown but free kick for United 40 yards from goal..

    Giggs swings it in, Berbatov flicks and Cudicini dives to his right to save.

    Lennon cuts inside and runs at Evra but the defender dows just enough to allow Scholes to nip in and claim the ball. Then Evra and Corluka go head-to-head after a strong challenge.

    Bassong cuts off Fletcher's pass before Giggs goes wide but fails to get his cross in. Keane is down after a tackle from Anderson. The foot was high and raked his thigh.

    Both feet were high in that challenge so the ref was probably right not to take any action.

    Corluka gets a slice of luck in the box after Fletcher's cross fell to Rooney. He hacks clear and United build again...

    Defoe rages after he is adjudged to have fouled Ferdinand. Summat and nowt that..

    Crouch fires in a superb low cross after Palacios played him in down the right. Defoe couldn't reach it but he was offside anyway...

    Palacios fouls Berbatov just outside the area. The referee gets his yellow out and books him, just like he'd warned a few moments ago.

    Rooney looking very interested in this. Giggs there too...

    Rooney dummies and Giggs curls one into the top right hand corner. What a strike.

    A sumptuous free kick from Giggs and a deserved leveller for United. He notches in yet another Premier League season and has now scored more goals against Spurs than any other club in his career.

    Lennon tracks Evra back and wins a goal kick. The Frenchman is not happy.

    Good save from Cudicini as Anderson plays in Berbatov, he controls superbly and whacks one goalwards. The 'keeper tips over. Corner.

    Crouch makes a nuisance of himself in the box but Huddlestone smashes the subsequent shot over the bar.

    What a brilliant passage of play! First Rooney fluffs a great chance as Cudicini saves, then Bassong clears Berbatov's follow-up on the line before Scholes finds Berbatov again and he whacks another shot over. Breathless stuff!

    Of all those chances, Rooney's was the best. He was clean through and should have taken Evra's pass first time. By the time he got a shot away the keeper had blocked it. Bassong did well to clear on the line too.

    Lennon is felled by Vidic as he offloads a ball wide for Crouch but the ref gives a corner. Amazing decision, that was a clear, and deliberate foul.

    From the corner Crouch closes his eyes when the ball reaches him and it dribbles wide off his shoulder. Pathetic.

    Good chance for Defoe after far too casual play from Vidic, he gives the ball to Keane and Huddlestone finds Defoe but his shot is saved by Foster.

    That is a strange decision. Fletcher goes ballistic when the ref gives Tottenham a foul when everyone thought it would go the other way. Oh, the replay show he followed through with a little kick on Palacios. He should have been carded just for that.

    Manchester United well on top now, but Spurs still showing a threat at t'other end every now and then.

    United are far too casual at the back today and it might yet cost them. Vidic again gave the ball away but Keane and Huddlestone couldn't fashion a chance for Crouch in the area.

    Giggs turns in a cross and with Fletcher lurking at the back post Assou-Ekottot concedes a corner.

    His first Premier League goal for Manchester United. Scholes smashed one in and Bassong only half cleared and Anderson whacks it into the bottom corner from 20 yards out.

    Vidic gets a yellow after diving in on Crouch recklessly. He's been patchy this half has old Nemanja.

    Great chance for Keane as Assou-Ekotto pulls the ball back, Jenas (on for Palacios) feeds Keane and a brilliant tackle from Vidic turns the ball over for a corner.

    Scholes slides in late on Defoe and gets a deserved yellow card. He's 35 and still can't tackle.

    Fabulous save from Foster as Jenas let fly from 25 yards out. It was heading for the top corner before he palmed away..

    Crouch hits the bar from the corner! He lost Vidic but couldn't get his effort on target. He really is rotten in the air for a beanpole.

    King pinches the ball from Rooney as Fletcher crosses. The striker was flagged anyway.

    Scholes is off! Another yellow for a poor tackle and United are down to ten.

    Andre Mariner decides Scholes had some malice in his sliding challenge with Huddlestone, and he did brush his face with a boot maybe, but that is a harsh yellow.

    Berbatov is coming off as United change shape post-dismissal. Rooney was nearly through on goal there too but Giggs' ball found him marginally offside.

    One Spurs old boy replaces another. Carrick on for Berbatov.

    Spurs play a neat string of passes but still end up lumping it into the box for Crouch. A stray arm from him constitutes a foul, according to the ref.

    Anderson nearly gets round the back but Cudicini is out to claim. Still no obvious sign that United are the side with ten men.

    Brilliant save from Cudicini! Rooney skips into the box, fires a shot in through Corluka's legs and the Italian palms away right handed. Superb stop.

    Jenas slides a delightful ball inside O'Shea for Assou-Ekotto but his pull backis nowhere near Defoe.

    Corluka goes off and Alan Hutton is on for Spurs.

    Evra cuts inside and whacks a shot into the side netting.

    Niko Kranjcar gets a Spurs debut and Robbie Keane comes off.

    Evra wins a corner off Hutton. Manchester United are coasting here. Spurs need to make the extra man count.

    Crouch and Vidic resume their wrestling match as a long ball comes into the box. Spurs howl for a penalty but United get the free kick.

    Vidic hangs an arm out as Crouch goes up for another high ball. Spurs get the free kick while Vidic points to a tiny lump just below his eye. Get on with it man...

    Game over and no more than Manchester United deserve. He picks up a ball from Fletcher as United break, holds off two defenders and slips the ball under Cudicini. Brilliant.

    Crouch fouls Ferdinand this time as Harry looks resigned to his fate on the bench. Spurs started well but couldn't get the ball even when United were reduced to ten men.

    Nanin is heading on for United and Anderson comes off. He's been quietly effective and will be delighted with his first goal in red too.

    Huddlestone side foots a shot right at Foster as the Spurs fans sit silently.

    Evra is still pushing forward and going for goal. He drags his shot well wide of the target on this occasion.

    Rooney has another shot well saved by Cudicini. Corner.

    Again Spurs go for the easy option of Crouch with a straight ball when they should be stretching the opposition THEN crossing. They've been very poor in the second half.

    Better from Spurs as they get the ball wide and Lennon crosses but Crouch can't direct the ball back towards goal.

    Giggs has had an awesome game out on the wide left. He wins another corner.

    Rooney should have scored again after being sent down the left channel. He cut in and tried to blast it when perhaps he should have curled it to the far corner. Easy to say from an office in Hammersmith...

    Full time! A quite superb performance from Manchester United and a limp display from Spurs. It may be their first home defeat in 2009 but they never looked likely as soon as Defoe's early goal was wiped out. Rooney was brilliant.
