Liverpool – Arsenal

1. All the Anfield action - here from 12.30 pm UK time on Saturday.

2. Gerard Houllier has relegated Emile Heskey to the bench and opted for another midfielder in Salif Diao.

3. Arsene Wenger has given French youngster Jeremie Aliadiere his full debut, while Sol Campbell returns to defence following a spell out because of the death of his father.

   Arsenal get the game underway - wearing their blue and yellow change strip.

   Campbell pumps the ball forward to Henry, who wins a throw.

   Poor control from Kewell. He takes a dive and wins a freekick.

   Gerrard curls the ball into the box and Edu heads over his own bar. Corner to Liverpool.

   Lehmann comes to punch clear but doesn't make it and Campbell concedes another corner.

   Lauren crosses from the right but Dudek plucks the ball from the air. Good goalkeeping.

    Diouf races down the wing and wins a throw from Cole. the ball goes back to the Reds' defence.

    Diao to Diouf, who crosses from the right. Lehmann collects the ball.

    Owen cuts inside from the left. He finds room for the shot and Lehmann makes a good low save to concede a corner.

    Henry sprints towards goal from the corner. Finnan comes across and makes an important tackle.

    Riise hits the ball long for Owen. Lehmann comes out of his area to act as sweeper and hoofs the ball clear.

    Two back-heels from Diouf look a bit fancy but it sets up Smicer for a long-range shot...

    ...but the Czech blasts wide.

    Parlour loses the ball and Liverpool, who have made a good start, attack again.

    Cole can't get the ball under control and gets penalised for high feet.

    The announcer is telling us to 'get ready for operation Anfield exercise'.....whatever that is.

    Riise clips the ball in from the left. Owen can't control his header but the ball drops for Kewell.....

    ....Kewell hits a sweet half-volley into the far corner of the net and Liverpool have a deserved lead.

    Reds manager Houllier opted to play Kewell up-front for this game and the gamble has paid off.

    Owen battles with Toure for a header and the Arsenal player shows good strength to emerge as the winner.

    Dioa wins a 50-50 ball and sets up a Liverpool attack. Owen plays a poor pass and the move breaks down.

    Gilberto drives forward but loses possession and Liverpool have the ball agian. The Reds are looking impressive.

    Hyypia slows the game down at the back and then pumps the ball forward. Lauren makes a poor header and Owen is in on goal.....

    ...The flag is raised for a dubious offside and the chance goes begging.

    Riise lofts the ball down the wing for Smicer, who hits a first time cross that Lehmann collects.

    Riise misses a header and a lucky deflection drops to Kewell. This time he blazes his shot over the bar.

    Henry tries to create something.....he fires off a long-range shot that Dudek palms past the post.

    The Anfield crowd boo the youngster Aliadiere after a late challenge on Diao.

    Just to put your mind at rest it's "all clear after operation Anfield exercise".

    Owen hits a shot over the bar from the edge of the box. Arsenal haven't shown up yet.

    Owen beats the offside trap and races towards goal...but the linesman has raised his flag.

    Gerrard whips in a freekick from the right but it's too deep for anyone to make a connection.

    Arsenal concede another freekick. Gerrard puts in a great ball from the left and Owen has free header....

    ...somehow he puts it over the bar from about 8-yards out. He should have scored.

    Parlour takes a dive and wins a freekick. Pires lofts a dangerous ball into the box.

    Edu gets his head to the ball and it deflects off Hyypia's toe into the back of the net. 1-1

    A totally undeserved equaliser for Arsenal but they are back in the game as Cole gets booked.

    Toure, who has done well at centre-back, wins another important header and Arsenal clear their ranks.

    Gerrard wins a midfield battle with Parlour. The Arsenal man chops him down and gets a yellow card.

    Cole kicks right through Diouf. Liverepool win a freekick and Cole, who has already been booked, is lucky to stay on the pitch.

    Diouf takes a short corner. Kewell flashes the ball across the face of goal and Liverpool win another corner.

    Kewell hits this corner long and Campbell heads clear.

    Pires crosses from the left. Henry lets the ball run and Parlour smashes his 20-yard shot wide.

    That was a good chance for Arsenal, whose attempts at goal have been few and far between.

    Gilberto fouls Diouf. Liverpool take a quick freekick but Kewell can't do anything with it by the corner flag.

    Liverpool make a change. A limping Smicer is replaced by 19-year-old Le Tallec.

    Gerrard to Diouf. The Senegal forward clips the ball into the box for Gerrard to shoot but Campbell heads clear.

    Wenger is off the bench complaining about an obvious foul on Aliadiere that wasn't given.

    Henry races clear of the Reds' defence on the left. His cross is cut-out by Biscan, who concedes a corner.

    Toure heads wide from the cross. Riise did well to put the defender off.

    Diouf wins a corner. Lehmann comes off his line to collect the cross.

    That's the last action of the half as the ref blows for half-time.

56. Liverpool dominated the first half but Arsenal are fortuitously level and it's still all to play for.

    Liverpool get the second-half underway. No changes to either side at the break.

    Henry tries to control the ball surrounded by four players. He shows good skill but Gerrard gets a tackle in.

    Diouf puts the pressure on Cole and the defender concedes a throw.

    Cole handles the ball as he clears from defence but the ref doesn't give a foul.

    Owen fires off a header in the area but he can't keep it down and the ball flashes over the bar.

    Finnan loops a ball into the box. Kewell attempts an overhead kick but fails to make a connection.

    Gerrard shoots from 35-yards out and, not surprisingly, doesn't score.

    Kewell dwells on the ball and gets tackled by Edu in an advanced position.

    A cheeky back-heel from Henry sets Arsenal on the attack but Cole and Pires combine to lose possession.

    Henry skirts the edge of the area and fires off a shot that Dudek saves easily.

    Henry and Cole look concerned and help the England striker to his feet. Owen gets treatment on the sideline.

    Cole takes an awkward tumble and is holding his back....this is bad few minutes for England players.

    Owen returns to the action and Cole looks okay.

    Cole hits a powerful cross that curls towards goal and Dudek fists the ball away.

    Liverpool get their foot on the ball. Riise looks for Owen but Lehmann gets there first.

    Edu plays the ball back for Pires, who sizes up a shot from the edge of the box.....

    Arsenal's best spell of the match results in a goal. They looked completely outplayed for 60 minutes but now they are coming on strong.

    Owen still looks in a lot of pain and Heskey is warming up on the sideline.

    Liverpool now make the change and Heskey is on for Owen.

    Arsenal follow suit and Aliadiere, who has done nothing, is replaced by Wiltord.

    Diouf flicks the ball to Heskey, who has a huge gap to run into, but he leaves the ball behind.

    Liverpool are guilty of some loose passing as they chase the game.

    Wiltord lines-up his first shot of the match but it trickles through to Dudek.

    Finnan sucks in Cole and whips in a cross that Campbell heads clear.

    The news on Michael Owen is that he has been taken away for an x-ray. He said that he thought he had broken his leg when it first happened.

    Lehmann comes to punch but misses. Diouf hooks the ball back towards goal and Cole and Toure clear off the line.

    Liverpool are pushing forwards looking for the equaliser, but they could get caught on the break.

    Hyypia fouls Henry and Arsenal take the pace out of the game.

    Dudek decides against organizing a wall from the freekick. Henry replies with a long-range shot that Dudek easily saves.

    Heskey gets past Campbell on the right. He cuts the ball back for Kewell in the box.....

     Le Tallec hits a shot from the edge of the box that beats Lehamann but drifts inches wide of the post.

     Liverpool make another change. Welsh, making his Premiership debut, replaces Diao.

     Welsh's first act of the game is to get booked for a tackle on Parlour.

     Arsenal are happy to keep possession but Riise makes sure Liverpool win the ball back.

     Heskey nods the ball down for Gerrard in the box. The England midfielder is travelling too fast and can't control the ball.

     Gerrard slides a pass forward to Kewell. The Australian spins on the ball but his touch is too heavy and Arsenal clear.

     Gerrard chips the ball into the box. Kewell wins the header but the Gunners defence holds firm.

     The latest on Owen is that the x-ray shows no break. However, he has injured a shin and is a doubt for the Turkey-England game.

     Liverpool launch a final attack. Biscan pumps the ball into the box and Lehmann collects.

     The final whistle blows and Arsenal have won at Anfield.

111. Arsenal should have been dead and buried in the first-half but a Hyypia own goal and an excellent Pires strike keeps them top of the league.
