4. Arsenal get us underway in what promises to be a firey encounter

5. 1'

Hopeful ball forward from Neville almost puts Scholes through but Toure recovers from a slip to block his path

6. 2'

Strong challenge from O'Shea sets Giggs off down the left but Toure again comes across to clear for a throw. United showing attacking intentions from the off

7. 3'

Fletcher corner sees Lehman stretch for the ball but he is unconvincing and deflects dehind for another corner

8. 4'

Giggs inswinger again brings Lehman into action and a good puch clears the danger

9. 5'

Arsenal attack for the first time but Ljungberg, knocking the ball past Keane to chase, over hits it and the ball runs out of play

10. 6'

Great ball forward to Henry is met by a solid tackle from Brown. The ball breaks to Pires and again Brown is in hard but this time unfairly. Free kick to Arsenal out by the left corner of the United box

11. 7'

Henry tries his luck but he puts far to much on it and the ball flies well over the bar - wasted opportunity

12. 8'

Giggs does well to hold the ball up on the left under Arsenal pressure. Feeds Keane out side the box and the captain goes for goal, twice, after his first effort is blocked. The second fairs no better

13. 9'

Ljungberg is clean through on goal, but only for a second as Brown comes across the centre of the box to get in a superb blocking tackle

14. 10'

Ljungberg through again but out on the right channel. No options in the middle to aim for so he is forced to go for goal from a tight angle. On target but Carroll stands firm and blocks

15. 11'

Great passing move through the middle from Arsenal involving Viera, Edu and Reyes before Silvestre is called in to break it up. Fantastic early tempo to the game

16. 12'

Lehman, under no pressure at all, fumbles the ball in his box and concedes a corner kick

17. 13'

Deep corner finds Djemba-Djemba. Controls on his chest, waits for the bounce and then unleashes a fierce volley on target. Lehman dives low to his right to turn it away. Cracking shot and great save

18. 14'

Reyes is played in down the left channel and seems to be triped by Carroll but the whistle had already blown for offside. Correct decision

19. 15'

Reyes shows great feet to get past Brown and earn a one-on-one with Carroll, though out left. Shot is not the best but Carroll still has to work to save it

20. 16'

This game has headed off at speed from the first whistle and shows little sign of slowing.

21. 17'

Scholes, who is playing well up the field, is sought by a ball over the top but Lehmann is out if his box to clear

22. 18'

Patient build up down the right from United sees then slowly move up the line. Looping cross from Neville causes a problem for Lehmann but he does hold on to in under pressure

23. 19'

The pace of the game is stifling creative play a bit at the moment with tackles flying all around

24. 20'

Henry robs Silvestre on the edge of the box but his one-two with Reyes just fails to come off

25. 21'

Pires draws a foul from Neville out on the left touchline

26. 22'

Pires' ball into the box is met by an emphatic headed clearance from Neville

27. 23'

Surging run by Reyes takes him to the edge of the box. A little reverse pass for Pires is blocked but it falls to Henry who unleashes a powerful drive that is deflected for a corner

28. 24'

Scholes trips Ljungberg from behind and earns himself a yellow card. Seemed very harsh, a clumsy, typical Scholes, challenge rather than anything nasty

29. 25'

Quick free kick up to Reyes 10 yards outsdie the box sees Neville clatter the Spaniard. A worse challenge than the one Scholes was booked for but it is just a free kick in Henry territory

30. 26'

Free kick from the Frenchman is on target but a comfortable save for Carroll

31. 27'

Delicate flick from Henry sets Pires away down the left. Eventually a cross comes from Clichy that Henry is straining to head on target and so provides little power on it

32. 28'

Break in play as Brown recieves treatment after tanggling with Henry. A free kick has been awarded to Arsenal after Keane fouled Henry in the same passage of play

33. 29'

This time Edu steps up to shoot and endagers low flying aircraft rather than the United goal

34. 30'

Neville gets into the Arsenal box and takes a tumble a la City of Manchester Stadium. Nothing given and rightly so

35. 31'

Heat really being turned up as tackles are coming thick and fast. This time Viera makes an uncompromising challenge on van Nistelrooy. Seemed firm but fair though he may have gone over the ball a little. Did win the ball itself though

36. 32'

Both sets of players having a few words as are the two managers on the touchline. Great stuff

37. 33'

Viera and Djemba-Djemba clash in the centre circle and the Frenchman is penalised for man handling his opponent

38. 34'

Giggs gets behind the Arsenal back line on the right and cuts back invitingly for Scholes. Great opportunity but for once Scholes gets his technique all wrong and fluffs the shot as he falls over

39. 35'

I really can't stress enough just how fast this game is being played. Two great teams going at it full throttle

40. 36'

Stroming tackle from Viera robs Djemba-Djemba as he threatens to surge forward. The Arsenal captain is in the middle of everything at the moment

41. 37'

Pires spreads it wide to Lauren but his cross is well cleared

42. 38'

Scholes has a shooting chance from the edge of the box for a fraction of a second but Toure is at his feet to block

43. 39'

Glorious chance for Henry as he is played into the box down the right and faced only Carroll. Cut back instead of shooting and the chance was gone

44. 40'

Controversy as the United players feel Henry tried to con the ref for a penalty after the chance had gone and he collided with Carroll. Referee takes no action

45. 41'

Neville cross from the right this times finds Lehmann commanding his box well as he collects

46. 42'

Clichy looks for a way round Djemba-Djemba on the left but only manages to earn a throw-in

47. 43'

United break menacingly with Giggs who has looked lively. He cuts in from the right and looks to find Scholes deep in the Arsenal box but the ball is too strong and misses everyone

48. 44'

One minute of added time to be played

49. 45'

Giggs lays back to Scholes on the left hand corner of the box but his snap shot is sliced. So badly in fact that it falls to Keane on the opposite corner and his first time effort flashes past Lehmann's right hand post

50. 45'

Whistle goes and brings an end to an absorbing and frantic first half. Both teams have been committed to attack - and the tackle - and it is not an afternoon for the faint hearted. Quality Premiership battle between two great sides. All we need now is a goal

51. 45'

United kick off and the second half is under way

52. 46'

Henry tripped mid way in the United half

53. 47'

Pires tries to just float a ball to the back post but it is played too long and goes for a goal kick

54. 48'

Great tackle from Keane robs Ljungberg in the centre circle and he releases van Nistlerooy in the box but Toure is there to concede a corner

55. 48'

Corner comes to nothing and is punted well upfield

56. 49'

Reyes finds a little space with quick feet about 30 yards away from the United goal. Little sideways pass to Henry and he fires an absolute screamer past the helpless Carroll to open the scoring. Fantastic effort! 1-0 Arsenal

57. 50'

Highbury goes crazy. Henry's shot had so much swerve on it that Carroll had no chance. A goal fit for such a great game

58. 51'

Viera again bites into the tackle, this time with Djemba-Djemba, and gives away another free kick

59. 52'

Giggs skins Campbell and is away in the box on the touchline. Campbell is falling and looks to trip Giggs inside the box. Really looked like a clear penalty but the referee gives nothing

60. 53'

The United players are incensed and surround Graham Poll in protest.

61. 54'

Silvestre, under pressure from Reyes, panics when a simple clearance was on. In the end he concedes a corner when it could have been much worse

62. 55'

The goal and the penalty appeal have raised the volume in the stands and the tempo on the pitch once more

63. 56'

Silvestre, who is not having the best of games, concedes a needless foul in the centre circle, much to the annoyance of Keane who was in close attendance

64. 57'

Lehmann receives a back pass and rather spoons it out for a throw deep in his own half

65. 58'

Substitution for Manchester United. With goals required on comes Louis Saha to replace Djemba-Djemba

66. 59'

A surging run through the middle from Clichy takes him well up the field. Lay off to Pires who goes past Neville as if he isn't there. Great cut back but no one is attacking the space in the middle to profit from the pass

67. 60'

Ball into the United box and Carroll spills it. Recovers well to get it iunder control on the second attempt but gets an accidental kick from Campbell for his troubles

68. 61'

Henry strides down the left with menace but Neville slides in to take the ball off him. Crowd appeals for hand ball but Neville took it cleanly

69. 62'

Ljungberg finds space on the right and dinks over a decent looking cross that Reyes almost, not not quite, reaches with the goal at his mercy.

70. 63'

Searching ball forward for van Nistlerooy catches him offside though he looked to have been at least level when the ball was played

71. 64'

United forced all the way back to Carroll after looking to have made progress down the right

72. 65'

Patient build up from the visitors finally gives Giggs a chance to cross from the by line inside the box. A very crowded area to aim for though and Lehmann holds on to it well at his near post

73. 66'

Break in play as Edu receives treatment for a knock

74. 67'

Saha runs at the Arsenal back line, twisting and turning, looking for a shooting chance. In the end lets fly a shot when it wasn't really on and possession is given up cheaply

75. 68'

loose pass from Fletcher deep in the Arsenal half wastes a good position and the home side break quickly up field forcing Carroll into action to deny Reyes

76. 69'

Snap shot from Henry from similar range to the goal this time hits Brown and doesn't trouble the United keeper

77. 70'

Second substitution for United sees Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replace the ineffectual Fletcher

78. 71'

Solskjaer receives a frosty reception from the home fans who remember his involvement with Campbell's sending off in the same fixture last year

79. 72'

Saha gets past Clichy before the Arsenal man trips him. Clichy's name goes in the referee's notebook

80. 73'

A disjointed period of play as possession and throw ins are traded

81. 74'

Arsenal conceding possession to United in the middle of the pitch but not letting them into the final third at all

82. 75'

Substitution for Arsenal as Reyes makes way for Gilberto Silva

83. 76'

Solskjaer throws in a deep cross from the right but it is too close to Lehmann and he catches it under no pressure at all

84. 77'

A sense of tension in the crowd as Arsenal are letting United play a lot of football and only have that single goal lead

85. 78'

Ljungberg breaks into a lot of space in the United half. Manages to get a shot away but it rather dribbles through to a grateful Carroll

86. 79'

Giggs corner is headed back across goal by a diving Brown but such is the number of bodies there it does not get very far and an Arsenal foot is first to it

87. 80'

Delightful reverse pass from Giggs gets Solskjaer in behind the Arsenal back line but in an offside position

88. 81'

Clear statement of intent from Arsenal as Ljungberg is replaced by Pascal Cygan

89. 82'

Solskjaer cracks in a decent looking shot from the left corner of the Arsenal box. Brown makes contact with his head in the six yard box but the power and speed mean he can't do anything with it

90. 83'

With Ljungberg off and three centre backs, Arsenal are looking to shut up shop for the 1-0. A dangerous game with United enjoying a great deal of possession in the closing stages

91. 84'

Another substitution for Arsenal. Pires goes off to a standing ovation and Dennis Bergkamp comes on to an almighty roar

92. 85'

Great quick passing from United sees Scholes play in Solskjaer on the right. His cross across the six yard line is aimed for van Nistlerooy but runs past everyone to Saha who has most of the goal to aim for. No mistake from the substitute. 1-1 and Arsenal pay for sitting back

93. 86'

United have been threatening a goal for the last ten minutes or so and Arsenal's policy of defending the lead seems to have back fired

94. 87'

Tense last few minutes now and definitely United with the initiative

95. 88'

Van Nistlerooy lays right to Giggs who just chips it back to the Dutchman but Lehmann is right behind the header

96. 89'

    Three minutes of added time

97. 90'

Chance for Arsenal to regain the lead. Interchange of passes works the ball into the box with Gilberto. Henry is wanted it laid across for the tap in but Gilberto goes for goal. Carroll saves but the ball bounces up for Henry to head just wide. The Frenchman is furious with his team mate for not playing him in

98. 90'

Bergkamp free kick from deep on the left is flighted into a crowded box and cleared by Neville.

99. 90'

It's the last action of the game and this titanic battle ends with honours even. 1-1 the final score

100. 90'

A great game that went to show that these two sides are still the best in the country - regardless of what one corner of South West London might say. Blistering opening half with Arsenal in the driving seat. Amazing strike from Henry to open the scoring but, as has happened before this season, the home side didn't finish the game off when they had the chance. Inviting United on to them was a mistake that ultimately cost them 2 points but not the record for an unbeaten start to the season.
