Manchester United – Manchester City

1. <i>ESPNsoccernet</i> will bring you live commentary of the Manchester derby, which kicks-off at 1330 BST. Team news to follow as soon as it breaks.

2. <b>Manchester City's starting XI:</b> Hart, Richards, Kompany, Lescott, Clichy, Yaya Toure, Barry, Milner, Silva, Aguero, Balotelli.

3. <b>Manchester United's starting XI:</b> De Gea, Evra, Ferdinand, Evans, Smalling, Fletcher, Anderson, Nani, Young, Rooney, Welbeck.

4. <b>Manchester City subs:</b> Pantilimon, Kolo, Zabaleta, Kolarov, De Jong, Nasri, Dzeko.

5. <b>Manchester United subs:</b> Lindegaard, Jones, Park, Hernandez, Berbatov, Fabio, Valencia.

6. Starting the unpredictable Balotelli is a gamble by Mancini, in particular as the environment at Old Trafford is likely to be fierce. Yesterday, the Italian made the headlines once again for off-the-field reasons. You can read why, <a href="http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/973356/manchester-city%27s-mario-balotelli-escapes-bathroom-fire?cc=5739">here</a>.

7. And no Vidic for United, not even on the bench. Evans the man partnering Ferdinand in a defence that has been creaky this season.

8. It's a surprising City line up all round - Toure is drafted in late on after De Jong was injured in the warm up, and Nasri starts on the bench.

9. Of course, there are two other 1.30pm kick-offs in the Premier League this afternoon. I'll keep you bang up to date with Arsenal v Stoke and Fulham v Everton as the goals go in.

10. Even Sir Alex says he is "surprised" by City's team.

11. The players shout encouragement to their respective colleagues in the tunnel and emerge to a wall of Old Trafford noise. Both are unbeaten to date - something has got to give this afternoon.

12. 1'

    <b>KICK OFF</b>

13. 2'

An early bit of pressure from City as Aguero partially charges down a De Gea clearance. He and Nani jostle in the box but a goal kick is the outcome.

14. 3'

At the other end Nani tries to run at Clichy but overruns the ball and City have a goal kick.

15. 4'

Young gets past Richards and goes to cross just as the defender slides in on him. Free kick on the edge of the left hand side of the box.

16. 5'

Barry with the first late challenge on Evra, another United free kick. Nani crosses but City clear.

17. 6'

Everton are 1-0 up already at Fulham - Drenthe with the goal.

18. 7'

Richards goes in strongly on Young again and concedes another free kick, and as it is taken short the battle recommences, Young winning a corner.

19. 8'

The corner is deep to Rooney who cuts in and crosses for Anderson in space at the back stick but he can't nod it back across goal. All United so far.

20. 9'

Milner clips Young - or actually, the replay shows there was no contact - and United have another free kick. No cards, but a stern word for Milner.

21. 10'

Balotelli gets up well to nod Young's free kick clear. City penned in at the minute. They've no outlet up front, as United win another corner.

22. 11'

Toure hoofs the ball upfield and United come again - City can get no foothold in the game so far. Aguero nor Balotelli are providing any presence up front.

23. 12'

A demonstration of how slack City have been comes with Silva giving the ball away under no pressure. Very unlike him.

24. 13'

Smalling is in hard on Balotelli who goes down clutching his knee. He's up now though. The United defender keen to give his opponent an early rocket. Athankyou.

25. 14'

City come alive as Silva twists inside the area and keeps hold of the ball in the face of four players, it ends with Toure's effort being nodded behind by Evans.

26. 15'

Nice ball from Fletcher to Young out wide and a really good ball in - only problem was that Rooney and Welbeck had both gone near post.

27. 16'

City are sitting pretty deep, operating more negatively than we thought they might.

28. 17'

Toure's passing has been very sloppy - not what you need in a derby.

29. 18'

Aguero is back on the edge of his own box hassling Young - a sign of how City are operating.

30. 19'

United are struggling to find the killer pass as City revert into last season mode and sit on the edge of their box.

31. 20'

Balotelli has a go at the bench as Mancini gives him some instructions. Can't help feeling Dzeko would have been a better option if City are staying so deep - he's better than either Mario or Aguero as an outlet ball.

32. 22'

    <img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Balotelli scores!

33. 22'

A cross from Milner and a side-footed finish from Balotelli, who puts his shirt over his head to reveal a t-shirt that reads "Why always me?" Brilliant.

34. 23'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Balotelli is booked for revealing his t-shirt, which seems ridiculous to me, especially given how funny it was. He didn't remove it, just pulled it over his head, a la Paul Scharner yesterday.

35. 24'

City are on fire now, as Clichy drives to the edge of the box, finds Aguero and his cross is just a little too high for Balotelli, who must be a cert to get sent off after that booking.

36. 25'

So, how will United react? They had been dominant until that point and will now have to fashion a way through City's packed defence.

37. 26'

Micah Richards shows a bit of intoxication from the goal by trying to lob De Gea from 50 yards. It goes wide, needless to say.

38. 27'

Young whips in a cross from the left and though Hart dives across, he always had it covered.

39. 28'

Arsenal are ahead, Gervinho finishing well after Ramsey's dinked pass, 1-0 against Stoke.

40. 29'

United reeling a little after the goal and struggling to fashion anything up front.

41. 30'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2011/1023/waynerooneyvincentkompanymanchesterderby_275x155.jpg">Wayne Rooney battles for possession with Vincent Kompany at Old Trafford

42. 31'

Still no cards from Mark Clattenberg, who has run the game well so far.

43. 32'

Silva gets back to tackle Nani as City try to prevent United finding any rhythm.

44. 33'

Evra finds Young down the line and his first time cross takes a flick off Richards. Corner.

45. 34'

Hart punches the corner right to Anderson but the 'keeper is in position to collect the Brazilian's drive.

46. 35'

Balotelli cuts in from the right and draws a foul from Evra. Good opportunity for City.

47. 36'

Peter Crouch levels things up at the Emirates - Arsenal 1-1 Stoke.

48. 37'

Rooney cuts onto his left and has a go from 25 yards but Hart is right behind it.

49. 38'

Howls from the home support as Toure tackles Fletcher as City break, then Anderson is late on Silva and City have a free kick about 40 yards from goal.

50. 39'

A slice of spce for Welbeck, whose pass to Rooney is just too strong - had it been right the striker was in. United regroup and win a corner.

51. 40'

The corner is worked short, Rooney is at the back post and volleys back for Evans, who totally misses his kick from seven yards out.

52. 41'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> More danger for United as Milner slips Aguero in but Evra blocks his shot, then as the home side break, Kompany trips Welbeck off the ball and is booked.

53. 42'

Decent touches on the edge of City's box as Young finds Anderson, who shoots over the bar from 19 yards.

54. 43'

Great battling from Toure as he tries to find Aguero before Richards is penalised for another foul.

55. 44'

Rooney goes over Nani in the box and claims a penalty!

56. 45'

<b>HALF TIME</b> A decent first half as United enjoy dominance with the ball until City broke and Balotelli tucked home a vital goal. Expect a better second half.

57. <img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2011/1023/mariobalotelliwhyalwaysmet-shirt_275x155.jpg"><br>Mario Balotelli was booked after revealing this message at Old Trafford after scoring the opener

62. A pump of the fist to the Stretford End as Fergie emerges from the tunnel. The hair dryer will have been out at half time make no mistake.

63. 46'

    We begin again...

64. 47'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/red_card.jpg" height="15"> Evans gets the wrong side of Balotelli and pulls him back when he was through and United are down to ten.

65. 48'

Just outside the box so it will be a free kick but City will be delighted. The game is theirs for the taking now.

66. 49'

Balotelli's effort is blocked then Evra robs Richards. What a start to the second half. It's all gone wrong for United. The ref got that spot on for me.

67. 50'

Phil Jones warms up in earnest, for the moment Fletcher has gone to right back with Smalling in the middle.

68. 51'

Richards gets into the box and goes down in a tangle with Anderson, the ref says no penalty as it was a coming together not a foul. Hmmm.

69. 52'

Rooney fires a long ball for Welbeck but he has no-one in support and is eventually tackled by Lescott.

70. 53'

The replay shows that Anderson challenge on Richards was a nailed on penalty. Clattenberg probably scared to give it so soon after the red. Mancini just laughed when it wasn't given.

71. 54'

Balotelli crosses for Aguero, who shanks a volley but Richards collects before cutting inside and wildly shanking wide. City need a second here.

72. 55'

Good chance for United as Rooney slots in Fletcher, he cuts it back for Young who miskicks his first effort, then can't connect properly when the ball ricochets back to him.

73. 56'

Now Balotelli finds Milner wide and he fizzes in a ball that is a few yards ahead of Aguero.

74. 57'

Great battling from Young to win the ball from Milner and get into the area but he has no left foot and can only dribble it against Kompany for a corner.

75. 57'

Good spell for United this as Rooney finds Fletcher who feeds Smalling and his shot wins another corner.

76. 58'

From this one the ball comes out to Rooney on the edge of the box but his shot is right at Hart.

77. 59'

Richards is again stationed on the wing and this time is fouled by Evra.

78. 60'

    <img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Balotelli again!

79. 60'

Superb work from Milner and Silva. Milner fires the ball into the Spaniard, gets a return flick and then fires a ball across the face for Mario to finish from two yards out.

80. 61'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> A yellow for Anderson for hauling back Aguero.

81. 62'

Both City goals have come from Silva passes to Milner and crosses for Balotelli. Brilliant.

82. 63'

United staring down the barrel of a first home defeat in 37 games.

83. 64'

Lovely passing from Kompany and Silva as Toure heads into the box but United clear, not for long though as another Silva cross is cut out by Smalling.

84. 65'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Double change for United: Anderson and Nani off, Hernandez and Jones on.

85. 66'

Chicarito wins a corner with his first touch. This is Fergie chasing a 2-2 draw, well aware it could end up 4-0.

86. 67'

Fulham 1-1 Everton, Bryan Ruiz levels for the home side.

87. 67'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Evra goes in late on Barry and is rightly booked.

88. 69'

    <img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Aguero!

89. 69'

Almost a carbon copy of the second as Balotelli flicks for Milner, he feeds Richards down the right and Aguero tucks home his cross. Game. Over.

90. 70'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Balotelli's day is done and what an afternoon he's had. Dzeko on.

91. 71'

Dzeko has nearly scored with his first touch! He was in acres of space and dribbles his left foot shot narrowly wide of the post.

92. 72'

A few United fans trickling towards the exits. This is City's ultimate revenge for Owen's late show last year.

93. 73'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2011/1023/jonnyevansredcardmanchesterderby_275x155.jpg"><br>Jonny Evans was sent off after pulling back a clean through Balotelli

94. 74'

Van Persie scores for Arsenal! Arsenal 2-1 Stoke.

95. 75'

Back at Old Trafford Silva has a chance to make it four, but it was a difficult chance, volleying a looping ball wide from eight yards.

96. 76'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Aguero comes off and Nasri comes on.

97. 77'

City fans sing "You're getting sacked in the morning," to Fergie. Oh the cheek of it.

98. 78'

A good save from De Gea to prevent Dzeko making it 4-0. Silva ran 60 yards unchallenged and fed the striker, who should have done better.

99. 79'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Smalling is carded for clipping Dzeko.

100. 80'

Good battling from Richards to slide in on Welbeck. He's been superb today, Richards.

101. 81'

     <img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Fletcher pulls one back!

102. 81'

A sublime finish from Fletcher, getting a return pass from Hernandez and side-footing into the top corner.

103. 82'

Arsenal 3-1 Stoke. Van Persie again. What a player.

104. 83'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Another yellow for United as Welbeck slides in from behind on Richards.

105. 84'

This will send City five points clear at the top of the table. Impressive. United could be third by the end of the day.

106. 85'

Rooney is in full on complaining mode now, wanting Barry booked for knocking the ball away after fouling Young.

107. 86'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Richards, still limping from that Welbeck tackle, is carded for fouling the same player.

108. 87'

The free kick goes out wide right, Fletcher crosses and Smalling rises but can't direct it on goal.

109. 88'

Jones crosses from the right but straight at Hart.

110. 89'

Just wide from Toure as he burst into the box. He tries to curl it with the outside of his boot but didn;t catch it right. Then Ferdinand and De Gea get in a tangle and hand City a needless corner.

111. 89'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Milner, who has been excellent, makes way for Kolarov.

112. 89'

Tottenham are in front at Blackburn - Van der Vaart with it.

113. 89'

     <img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Dzeko!

114. 89'

An easy goal as Barry flicks on the corner to the back post, Lescott gets to it before it goes out of play and pulls it back for Dzeko can't miss.

115. 91'

     <img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Silva makes it five!

116. 91'

A breakaway move from City springs Silva clean through and he slides the ball under De Gea. What a statement this is.

117. 92'

Louis Saha has scored in stoppage time to hand Everton all three points against Fulham.

118. 93'

Dzeko has missed a golden chance to make it six! Clean through and on his left foot, he has blasted over the bar from ten yards out.

119. 93'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Dzeko makes it six now!

120. 93'

Goodness gracious me, a volley from SIlva puts Dzeko in the clear and he makes no mistake this time, finishing past De Gea with ease. Mancini can't keep the grin off his face.

121. 94'

<b>FULL TIME</b> Fergie says well done to Mancini as City toast the most incredible win. It all turned on the opening goal, then again on Evans' sending off. City were merciless and United won't have had too many more embarrassing afternoons in the last 15 years. Unbelievable stuff.
