Twitter prediction from Icykuda: "Man utd 3-1 City, Rooney, Welbeck, Nani, Dzeko"

City enjoy a nice spell of possesion, which ends when Balotelli is flagged offside. Rain coming down at Wembley.

Both sets of supporters are in fine voice. The game has settled down somewhat now after a frenetic opening.

Mark Lomas at Wembley: "Cracking opening, United were immediately in the ascendancy but City pushing forward themselves in the last couple of minutes."

Rooney bursts through centrally and spreads the play to Nani on the right...but the winger's chipped cross is easily dealt with.

Vidic in aggresively on Balotelli, who reacts by squaring up to the defender. The referee has a word to calm him down.

The official Manchester City Twitter account reacted instantly to defend Balotelli. "He didn't rise to it." For the record, he did.

United link well down City's left. Anderson eventually sends a cross over, but Kolarov heads clear.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Anderson and Dzeko both go in the book for a feisty exchange on the halfway line.

United have enjoyed 56% of the possession so far, and arguably been the better side.

Nani swings over a corner from the United right. Yaya Toure heads strongly clear.

Smalling gets forward on the United right. He sends over a teasing cross and Richards has to stoop to head clear.

City on the break. Silva plays a slide-rule pass into Milner, who shoots across De Gea. Just wide. Best chance of the match so far.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2011/0807/naniwaynerooneynigeldejongcommunityshield_275x155.jpg"> Nigel de Jong makes a sliding challenge to nick the ball off Nani

Nani slides in at the feet of Balotelli, who's left writhing on the floor. No foul given. Balotelli was trying a piece of fancy footwork there...he's back up and will be fine.

No shortage of tackles flying in so far. You get the distinct feeling we could see a red card at some point this afternoon.

Great cross from Kolarov on City's left. Silva gets a touch at the near post, but United clear for a corner.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Yaya Toure is the next in the book, his crime being a collection of fouls rather than a particularly bad one.

Another fierce tackle. This time De Jong wallops Welbeck and is extremely fortunate not to be booked. United have a central free-kick, in range...

Nani goes for goal from fully 35 yards. His effort deflects off Balotelli and just past Hart's left post. United waste the resulting corner.

Silva is having a good game. He slides a ball forward to Balotelli, but Vidic is sharp enough to steal it away.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> WHAT A STRIKE! Dzeko fires a superb low shot past De Gea from 30 yards to put City 2-0 up! United's new goalkeeper was at full stretch, but surely he shouldn't be beaten from that range.

And that's the half-time whistle. United dominated the possession and territory, but it's City who lead - courtsey of Lescott's header and Dzeko's fine strike. Not a 45 minutes to remember for De Gea.

Ashley Young tries to make space for a cross on the left, but Richards stays very tight to him and concedes a throw.

United continue to dominate territory and possession at Wembley.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> UNITED PULL ONE BACK! Young sends over a superb curling free-kick from the left and Smalling volleys a finish past Hart from 6 yards!

Smalling was completely unmarked as his ran onto Young's ball there. Poor defending from City.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> UNITED ARE LEVEL! Brilliant goal from the champions. Rooney and Cleverley combine to play in Nani, who chips an exquisite finish past Hart.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Balotelli's afternoon is over. He's replaced by the altogether more sensible Barry.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Kolarov is the latest man in the book, making it five yellow cards and counting for City.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2011/0807/edindzekogoalceleb_275x155.jpg"> Edin Dzeko is congratulated by his team-mates following a wicked strike

United have had 13 shots on goal to City's 4.

City clear a United corner, but it comes back over from Evra...all the way to Rooney, who blasts a volley over the bar from a tight angle.

Young goes long to Nani. City clear, but United come straight back at them.

Great stuff from Jones, who makes an interception and sets Young away on the left. All United at the moment.

We go to penalties if it's level at full-time.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Adam Johnson replaces England team-mate Milner for City.

Great lunging tackle from Lescott, who steals the ball away from Rooney just as United are threatening to open City up.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2011/0807/nanicelebgoal_275x155.jpg"> Nani wheels away after capping a sensational team goal by Manchester United

Welbeck's cross from the left fizzes across the six-yard box. Nobody gets a touch.

Welbeck and Young have both impressed for United this afternoon. Silva and Dzeko have looked sharp for City.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Kompany pulls Young to the ground right on the edge of the City box. Before the free-kick is taken, Rafael da Silva replaces Erva.

Rooney's low shot is blocked by one of his team-mates.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Another City change. Kolarov is replace by new signing Clichy.

Silva asks a lot of Clichy with a ball towards the corner flag...the former Arsenal man does well to reach it and win his side a corner.

Great effort from Johnson, who cuts in from the right and fires a blistering shot towards De Gea's top corner. United's new goalkeeper does well to parry it away.

Powerful play from De Jong in central midfield, who drives forward with intent.

Cleverley pounces on a loose ball on the edge of the box and fires a wild shot over the bar.

<img src="/design05/images/2011/0807/chrissmallinggoal20110807_275x155.jpg"> Chris Smalling diverts the ball home to put Manchester United back in the game

Dzeko is penalised for handball inside the United box.

Shots on goal stats update. United 18-6 City.

Young tries to beat Richards, but there's no way past the City full-back. It's been a good battle between those two all afternoon.

Silva links well with Yaya Toure, but the final ball isn't forthcoming for City. They come back at United, and this time Silva's cross is headed clear.

Yaya Toure goes for glory from 30 yards. Suffice to say, De Gea doesn't need to move.

Five minutes remaining, United still looking the most likely to win it.

Jones with a great ball into Rooney, who frees Cleverley on the right. His cross is cleared behind for a United corner.

Hart punches the corner clear. It comes back in again, and this time the England No. 1 claims securely.

Now it's City's turn to pressurise with a corner. Silva's delivery is met superbly by Richards. De Gea tips over, but the referee decides there was a foul.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Berbatov replaces the impressive Welbeck for United. Perhaps with penalties in mind?

Great play from Smalling on United's right. He cuts inside to play in Nani, whose shot is blocked. The ball comes back to Cleverley, but he blazes over the bar.

They'll be 4 added minutes.

Young's deep cross is just too long for Berbatov, who can only head out for a goal-kick.

Rafael concedes a free-kick midway inside the United half. Silva sends over a cross, but Dzeko's header is weak.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> NANI WINS IT FOR UNITED! Rooney's hooked clearance catches Kompany napping on the halfway line, Nani nicks the ball off him, sprints forward and rounds Hart before side-footing a left-footed finish into an empty net!

And that's the full-time whistle! United have come from 2-0 down at half-time to beat City 3-2 and win the 2011 Community Shield at Wembley. Roberto Mancini will surely be furious at the defending for both Smalling's goal that got United back into it, and Nani's winner.

Rooney: "There was one team that went out there and dominated..."

Nani: "Our fans are so proud of us. It's a beautiful day..."

Match stats tell the story: United had 56% of the possession, 21 shots at goal to City's 8.
