1. Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has made five changes to the side which defeated Everton 3-0 in midweek with Ryan Giggs, Louis Saha, Paul Scholes, Nemanja Vidic and Gabriel Heinze returning to the starting line-up. Out go £18.6million summer signing Michael Carrick, Mikael Silvestre, Patrice Evra, John O'Shea and Kieran Richardson as United look to maintain their unbeaten league run away from home.

2. Boro manager Gareth Southgate has made two changes to the team which drew 1-1 at Aston Villa last weekend with Stewart Downing returning from a groin injury in place of Julio Arca and Lee Cattermole coming in for James Morrison.

    Cross by Downing goes behind, but he gave us a flash there of what he can do as he beat a couple of United players with pace and a little guile.

    Fergie is on the phone. Who to, I wonder? The bench? 'Don't let Saha take any penalties'. Should have told them that before the game, Sir Alex.

    And Saha almost scores! A downward header from a corner is chested off the line by Huth and then grabbed by Schwarzer. Encouraging for United.

    Terrible header from Giggs after Ronaldo had drawn a good save from Schwarzer. He just had to head it into the open net, but Giggs - sporting about a week's facial grwoth, I'd say - missed it. Poor.

    Fletcher is obstructed by the ref on the edge of the Boro box. Outrageous!

    Back flick in the United box by Christie looks pretty, but his team-mates were nowhere to be found.

    Penalty! Ronaldo goes down in the box under a challenge from Schwarzer after wonderful play from Saha beats three men.

    And Saha scores! Well done Louis. The demons of Celtic Park have been well and truely exorcised. And anyone who says otherwise is an inveterate fool.

    Rooney stetches to get a foot on a Ronaldo cross - but can't guide the ball in. Great interplay from Man United there. They're looking dangerous - I wouldn't be surprised of they add a few more tonight.

    Boro have been a bit flat so far tonight. They need a spark to get them going - a bit of magic from Yakubu or Downing, perhaps.

    Ronaldo jumps just under a Giggs cross with the goal at his mercy, Schwarzer's resolute frame notwithstanding. That was close.

    There appears to be some debate on the quality of the ball. Eventually, Giggs puts it down....and Ronaldo shoots! It takes a great save from Schwarzer to stop it. Corner.

     And that's it! Manchester United now lead Chelsea by six points in the league. They deserved that, even if Ronaldo dived horribly to win their penalty.
