Wigan Athletic – Manchester United

1. We might be concentrating on reigning Premier League champions Manchester United as they take on Wigan, but keep it here and you'll get all the action, be it at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea take on Bolton, or in the battle to avoid the drop. All the action from 3pm UK time.

2. Good afternoon one and all! Welcome to a tantalising climax to the Premier League season. In just a few hours time we will discover who will lift the trophy, and who will save themselves a cool £40m by beating the drop. There will be guaranteed laughter, tears, punch-ups and hugs - and that's just in the Soccernet office. Keep it right here for all the action with me Chris Murphy.

3. Our main focus will be events at the JJB Stadium and Wigan's game with Manchester United. The title equation is simple - if United win they will be Champions. If they don't, and Chelsea do, it'll be a glamorous pocket of West London celebrating a League success instead. I shall also endeavour to keep you bang up to date with the scrap for survival too, as well as the race for fifth. It's going to be a jam-packed afternoon, and its only ten minutes away...

4. Without further ado, the teams, beginning with Man Utd: Van der Sar, Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Ronaldo, Carrick, Scholes, Park, Tevez and Rooney. Subs from: Kuszczak, Hargreaves, Saha, Giggs and Silvestre.

5. And Steve Bruce's Wigan: Kirkland, Boyce, Bramble, Scharner, Figueroa, Valencia, Palacios, Brown, Koumas, Bent and Heskey. Subs from: Pollitt, Sibierski, Taylor, King and Skoko.

6. So, Rooney and Vidic are back for United - what a huge boost that is. As for Chelsea, here is their team to face Bolton: Chelsea: Cech, Essien, Carvalho, Terry, Ashley Cole, Ballack, Makelele, Lampard, Joe Cole, Drogba and Malouda. Subs from: Cudicini, Shevchenko, Obi, Kalou and Belletti.

7. And Bolton: Al Habsi, Steinsson, Andrew O'Brien, Cahill, Samuel, Davies, Joey O'Brien, McCann, Nolan, Taylor and Diouf. Subs from: Walker, Jaaskelainen, Meite, Giannakopoulos and Cohen.

8. Strap yourselves in for a rollercoaster ride ladies and gentlemen, we are about to get underway...

   The drama has begun before the game has even kicked off! Chelsea are late coming out, and will start a good few minutes after United! Strap yourselves in because here we go...

    There's good noise coming from both sets of fans. That's a phrase you don't usually hear in connection with the JJB.

    Wigan have the first crack on goal, but Michael Brown's effort is scuffed and Van der Sar claims comfortably.

    Chelsea have finally kicked off! They will be two-and-a-half minutes behind United. Will that make any difference? Or am I just getting caught up in all the hype of intergalactic Sunday?!

    Its all Wigan in the early exchanges, Palacios feeding Bent down the right in their latest attack, but his cross is poor and sails behind for a goal kick.

    A decent break from Wigan as Jason Koumas bears down on goal. He sniffs glory and tries a left-foot shot when surely feeding the onrushing Valencia was a better option. A chance wasted.

    No goals anywhere to inform you of ... yet.

    Manchester United have their first effort, but Ronaldo drags his pot shot well, well wide.

    The day's first goal comes at Upton Park as West Ham gets their noses in front against Aston Villa, who are gunning for fifth place.

    Chance at Stamford Bridge! A beautiful low cross from Ballack finds Drogba at the back stick but the angle is too narrow and he hits the side netting!

    A bit of a panic in the United area as Brown tosses in a long throw. Heskey gets up, Bent tries a shot but Ferdinand clears. Then Koumas has another go but hammers his shot miles wide.

    John Terry is lying prostrate after a collision with his own keeper Petr Cech. A stretcher is being called and he looks completely spark out. Drama!

    Paul Scholes has just been booked after a horrible lunge on Palacios. Meanwhile, JT looks like he may have dislocated his shoulder. Disaster for Chelsea.

    A big goal at the bottom of the table! James Harper has put Reading ahead at Derby!

    If results stay like this Reading will survive! Back at the JJB a long ball from Brown falls to Rooney but Boyce is in smartly to block. A good challenge.

    Villa have levelled against West Ham through Ashley Young and Beletti has replaced the stricken JT at Stamford Bridge.

    Ronaldo isn't making any friends at Wigan. He throws himself to the floor after a trip from Bent and hurls him arms skywards when he isn't awarded a free-kick. He didn't get one because his side still had the ball and were breaking. Get up.

    Paul Scholes fires in an effort from the edge of the box after a croner falls to him but it is a good few yards wide. Boro are one up against Man City thanks to a Stewart Downing penalty by the way, in one of the few dead rubbers of the afternoon.

    A shade of uncertainty from Van der Sar after Marcus Bent flicks on Figueroa's long throw. He tips over unnecessarily, then Boyce has a dart from the corner but his volley flashes over the bar. Wigan giving as good as they get so far..

    Bolton win themselves a free kick at Chelsea but Matt Taylor's delivery is poor and Frank Lampard clears.

    Jason Koumas' third effort on goal is his best so far, and Ferdinand leans in to block with a combination of arm slash shoulder. He's a lucky boy is Rio.

    Didier Drogba has just curled a free kick inches wide at Stamford Bridge with Bolton keeper Al Habsi stranded!

    Then a Park Ji-Sung ball releases Ronaldo inside the area but Boyce hangs a leg out to block his cross. Vital as he did too, seeing as Rooney was poised to tap into the net.

    Free kick for United, 35 yards out. Ronaldo ... fires it in and Kirkland makes a smart save as the ball bounces just in front of him.

    John Terry is on his way to hospital to have his arm looked at which means the Chelsea captain may not be around to lift the trophy should Chelsea win it!

    A wildly ambitious effort from Figueroa; he lashes one at goal from the left wing about 40 yards out to the disgust of Bent and Heskey who were piling into the area.

    Theo Walcott has put Arsenal ahead against Sunderland.

    A superb ball from Ronaldo drops on the six yard box and with Kirkland dithering Carlos Tevez very nearly gets a toe end on it!

    Everton are one up against Newcastle at Goodison Park thanks to Yakubu. That's very helpful in their quest to secure fifth spot. If they win, they get it.

    Emerson Boyce tackles Rooney inside the area as the striker was about to have a shot on goal. So, Ronaldo can put United in the driving seat here...

    With the entire country bathed in sunshine the heaven's have opened at the JJB and it is now chucking it down!

    Paul Scholes is a supremely lucky boy! He has shoulder charged Valencia to the deck as the winger was breaking clear. It should have been a yellow card, Scholes should have gone but Bennett has bottled it. Shocking!

    Marcus Bent has nearly equalised! A cracking turn from Palacios to nip past Evra then his cross falls to Bent whose volley hits the side netting!

    I can't believe Steve Bennett has let Scholes off without a second yellow card there. That was a nailed on booking, and Scholes knew he should have gone but Bennett inexplicably let him off.

    Add that decision to the Ferdinand handball, and the penalty call at the other end and Wigan can feel rightly miffed so far.

    Not much doing at Stamford Bridge. Despite an early flurry of Chelsea pressure Bolton have looked relatively solid and untroubled.

    Gavin McCann has just clattered into Ashley Cole. The left back is still down and McCann has a booking for his efforts.

    Boro 2-0 Man City, Afonso Alves with the goal.

    Tevez slides in a low cross and Kirkland gives Rooney a little whiff of goal by spilling the ball - largely due to the greasy conditions.

    Excellent cover from Jason Koumas. Scharner loses the ball and for a brief moment United had a four on three break. But Ronaldo's ball is poor, Tevez reacts too slowly and Koumas slides in to snuff out the threat.

    So, the first period is nearly over and as it stands Manchester United will be crowned Champions at 5pm this evening.

    HT at the JJB, but the game at Stamford Bridge goes on. Half time in all the relegation contests though, and at this moment in time Reading are safe.

    So, let's recap: Manchester United are in the box seat in the race for the title, while Reading will stay up at the expense of Fulham and Birmingham if results remain as they are. Expect more drama, and more changes before the next 50 minutes is out though!

    Florent Malouda has forced Al Habsi into a stunning save at Stamford Bridge. He's walloped one from 30 yards and the kepper has just got a hand to it to help the ball onto the bar!

    Ronaldo has a pop from another free kick, and Kirkland tips over smartly with the ball dipping and swerving viciously.

    More bright play from Wigan but no sign of a cutting edge - perhaps not surprising with Bent and Heskey the men supposed to be providing it.

    Bennett has now bottled giving Man United another penalty! Bramble slides in on Scholes and gets none of the ball but Bennett gives a corner! What is he playing at?! That is a stick on penalty!

    From the corner Ronaldo gets a free header and watches as the ball loops agonisingly wide.

    Lovely work from Valencia, robbing Park then twisting and turning past Brown before losing control at the vital moment.

    Then at t'other end Rooney cuts inside Bramble fizzes in a low drive which is superbly saved by Kirkland with a strong right hand. Excellent stop.

    Reading are 2-0 up at Derby! Dave Kitson with a VITAL goal. And Aston Villa are in front against West Ham. If Newcastle manage to snatch a win at Everton then Villa would claim fifth, and a UEFA Cup berth.

    Rooney has talked himself into a booking after being flagged for handball inside the Wigan box. He rants at Bennett - who infamously sent off Javier Mascherano for giving him a bit of lip don't forget - and gets a yellow.

    Another top stop from Chris Kirkland as Tevez fired in a low shot! The big man is keeping Wigan in it.

    Boro are now thrashing Man City 4-0. Alves and Downing both have two.

    Drogba again goes close at the Bridge. He ghosts past about four Bolton players but lifts his shot over from ten yards with only the keeper to beat. What a chance!

    Game on! Shevchenko has scored at the Bridge! Its his first since Boxing Day. He turns in Malouda's cross cum shot!

    Well, well, well. That makes things very interesting! So, United win the title on goal difference at the moment but a Wigan goal would change everything!

    Reading are cruising to victory at Pride Park - Kevin Doyle has made it 3-0. All eyes on Fulham then, who are still locked at 0-0 down at Pompey.

    Wigan win a corner, as Petr Cech makes a wonderful save from Diouf to keep Chelsea ahead.

    Owen Hargreaves is coming on for Paul Scholes, who should have been sent off in the first half, without a shadow of a doubt. Fergie is looking to shore up his defence a little clearly.

    Now Ryan Giggs comes on for Ji-Sung Park, a substitution which means Giggs equals Sir Bobby Charlton's appearance record of 758.

    Best chance of the game for Wigan as Heskey rises to meet a Koumas free kick and with Van der Sar beaten the ball just clears the bar! How thin the margins are...

    Everton are back in front against Newcastle, thanks to Joleon Lescott while Brimingham are still fighting - Cameron Jerome has scored to put them 2-1 up against Blackburn!

    Unbelievable! How fitting that Bullard and Murphy combine to put Fulham on the brink of safety - they have been superb in the last few months. Birmingham and Reading's hopes are dashed!

    Liverpool are two up at White Hart Lane versus Spurs. Voronin with the first, Fernando Torres with the second.

    United are still pressing at the JJB, a few corners have come and gone but all it takes is a goal and the whole complexion of the day changes.

    It is becoming unbearable for the fans involved in all the big games of the day now. Fulham need to hang on at Portsmouth, Man United need to hold firm at Wigan while fans of Reading, Birmingham and Chelsea can only hope and pray.

    How fitting that Ryan Giggs has slotted the clinching goal. Rooney finds him in space on the edge of the box, he collects and places his shot low past Kirkland and wins the title for his side in the process. Brilliant.

    Reading are leading Derby 4-0, Man City have pulled one back at Boro but still trail by six while West Ham have made it 2-2 at Upton Park against Villa. Phew!

     So, let's take a breath! Manchester United win the title by two points over Chelsea, and Fulham's win at Portsmouth means they retain their Premier League status while Birmingham and Reading are relegated.
