West Ham United – Everton

1. The Hammers looking to bring their away form back to Upton PArk for the visit of a Toffees side hoping to build on last week's toppling of mighty Arsenal. All the action from 16.05 GMT

2. The mercurial Di Canio will start for the Hammers - they have won the last two games he has been involved in.

3. Teen sensation Wayne Rooney will start on the bench for Everton, with Radzinski and Campbell starting up front.

   The teams come out into a blustery Upton Park and West Ham get the game underway.

   Di Canio attacks down the left. A cheeky backheel from Lomas is a few inches too far ahead of Sinclair, who is prouling the edge of the box.

   Everton begin their own forward foray. Radzinski tries a one two on the edge of the area but Minto steps in for the Hammers.

   Defoe latches onto a long ball. He drives into the box but Hibbert muscles him off the ball.

   A ball in from the left clears the Everton defence. Sinclair tries a volley and Wright tips the shot around the post.

   A great start to the game, both teams bouyed by by some excellent recent results.

    Some confusion from an Everton throw gifts the ball to the Hammers deep in their own half.

    Unsworth makes a great tackle on the right and lofts a ball into the box for Campbell......

    .....Campbell goes to ground under a challenge from Pearce. No foul says the ref.

    The Everton defence are looking solid as the West Ham fans urge their side forward. Stubbs slides in with a stiff, but clean, challenge on the edge of the box.

    After a lively start the game has settled down.

    Campbell nods the ball down for Radzinski. The forward plays Carsley into the box......

    ....Carsley aims to find the far top corner but his efforts drifts past James' right-hand post.

    Li Tie wins the ball in midfield. Hibbert whips in a cross and Pearce heads clear. Everton are asking all the questions at the moment.

    Li Tie is winning the ball in midfield for the Toffees.

    Di Canio attacks down the left. The Italian turns Yobo inside out and delivers a cross to the back post......

    ...Wright comes off his line and confidently plucks the ball out of the air.

    Bit of head tennis in the midfield as the ball blows about in the swirling wind.

    Di Canio delivers a freekick and Hibbert, another excellent Everton youngster, powerfully heads the ball clear.

    Hibbert breaks down another Hammers attack and Eveton break. Li Tie hits a long distance strike which James easily claims.

    Di Canio drives at the Everton defence, who backs off until Hibbert makes the tackle.

    Cole, who has been quiet so far, drives into the box from left. Hibbert slides in to make the challenge yet again.

    West Ham are testing the young leftback Hibbert. So far he is up to the task.

    Everton work their way down the near touchline with throw after throw.

    Longball stuff now and Everton manager Moyes is off the bench to protest against it.

    Radzinski limps away from a Dailly challenge and Rooney starts to warm up.

    Campbell looks to pounce on a ball in from the left. Pearce misses the ball, Campbell shoots from close range and James is off his line to block the shot.

    Li Tie loses possession to Cole, but the Chinese international battles to win the ball back in the centre circle.

    Carrick urges Minto into a forward position. Minto fires in a 25-yard shot and Wright gets his body behind the ball to make the save.

    Cole tries to trick Li Tie but the midfielder is having none of it and steams in with a tackle. A good battle is developing between those two.

    Wright pumps the ball forward and Campbell wins the ball in the air ahead of Repka - a feature of the game so far.

    Li Tie battles to win the ball for Everton. He fouls Di Canio in the process and West Ham have a freekick on the right.

    Di Canio delivers and Carsley has to head clear under pressure.

    The ball holds up in the wind and Stubbs does well to hold off Di Canio and hoof the ball out for a throw.

    Di Canio attempts to flamboyantly flick the ball down the line. For once he gets it all wrong and the ball trickles out of play.

    Hibbert gets forward and finds himself with space for a shot........

    ....his long-range effort dips and swerves but is no problem for James.

    An Everton clearence hits Dailly in the face, rebounds and sets Defoe running in on goal......

    ....Defoe hits a shot from a tight angle on the right and Wright collects. The wrong option from Defoe.

    Pembridge puts in a cross from the left. Carsley gets in a header put it doesn't trouble James.

    Everton chip the ball into the box for Li Tie to chase. James comes out to collect and makes a mess of it...

    .....Li Tie has possession right on the touchline......

    ....He tries a shot from the tightest of angles. The ball drifts across the face of goal and West Ham clear.

    A close call there for the Hammers and nearly a costly blunder from James.

    That is the last action of the half. The whistle blows and it's still 0-0 at the break.

49. Everton made a bright start to the match and West Ham manager Glenn Roeder will be pleased with how his side forced their way into the game.

50. Meanwhile the Toffeemen have looked solid and have had the best chances to open the scoring. More of the same for manager Moyes.

    The teams are out for the second-half and everton get the game underway.

    Radzinski is on the attack right from the off and finds Campbell in the box - who flicks the ball on for Pembridge on the left........

    ....The defender's low shot is wayward and the Hammers clear the danger.

    Hibbert launches a long throw into the box. Pearce's attempted header loops into the air and James rushes out to collect the ball.

    Sinclair takes a poor first touch and Hibbert wins the ball. The defender looks for a sweeping pass to Radzinski and Pearce makes a much needed interception.

    Di Canio sets Sinclair racing down the leftwing. He cuts the ball back for Cole.......

    ...Cole just gets a toe to the ball before the on-rushing defender but can get no power on the shot.

    Radzinski steps over the ball, Campbell collects and palys the ball inot the area for Radzinski to chase......

    ....James comes out but it's Dailly who hooks the bouncing ball clear - under pressure from Radzinski.

    Pembridge hits a 30-yard freekick straight into James' bread basket.

    Di Canio muscles Yobo of the ball but the Nigerian international battles back to win possession on the far touchline.

    Dailly and Radzinski tangle challenging for a wayward pass and the ref gives the freekick Everton's way.

    Pembridge whips the ball into the box from the left and Campbell rises to make the header.......

    ....the striker puts his header over the bar and gets clattered by James as the keeper rushed off his line.

    The crowd roars as West Ham win a corner. Di Canio delivers......

    .....Dailly puts his near post header into the side netting and half the stadium think he has scored.

    Li Tie slides the ball through the Everton defence for Pembridge to strike on the gallop.

    Two West Ham defenders slide in front of Pembridge and his shot deflects wide of the goal.

    Linderoth battles to win the ball in midfield and spreads the play right to Carsley.....

    .....Carsley's cross is a good one and James has to stretch to collect the ball.

    Everton make a change. Radzinski is off and the boy Rooney takes the field to a standing ovation from the Everton fans.

    Campbell plays a ball over the West Ham defence on the turn and Rooney runs onto it to the delight of the travelling fans.....

    ...Rooney shifts the ball onto his right foot but blasts his shot just over the bar.

    Unsworth finds space for a cross from the left, after some fine football from Pembridge, and curls one to the back post.......

    ....James doesn't know whether to go for the ball or stay on his line......

    .....Carsley rises highest at the back post and smashes a powerful header into the back of the net. GOAL!!!!

    A deserved 1-0 lead for Everton.

    West Ham win a corner at the other end but Wright snuffs out any danger for Everton.

    West Ham make a change and Lomas is replaced by Edouard Cisse.

    Sinclair and Di Canio combine down the left. Sinclair Volleys a cross into the box and Stubbs clears with a strong header.

    Rooney gets behind the Hammers defence and drives into the box from the right. Repka uses all his experience to muscle the youngster off the ball.

    West Ham are pushing forward for the equaliser and Everton are looking for another goal themselves.

    Rooney turns Pearce on the far touchline and the defender has to hack him down. Freekick.

    Campbell plays a one-two with Rooney and tries to pick out Pembridge on the edge of the box. Dailly makes the clearence.

    Everton really on the attack now as Rooney latches onto a bobbling ball in the box. He spins and turns and the Hammers eventually manage to clear.

    Cole puts pressure on the Everton defence. He drives into the box battles his way past two defenmders and forces a save and a corner from Wright.

    A needless foul by Dailly relieves the pressure for Everton.

    The Hammers push forward. Sinclair chips the ball inot the box, Wright comes to claim but drops the ball........

    .....Cole is looking to pounce but the ball bounces back into Wright's grasp.

    A frantic finish at Upton Park.

    Cole dances into the box with some trickery. Five Everton defenders surround him and eventually hack the ball clear.

    Now it's Defoes turn. He sends Stubbs the wrong way, cuts inside but can only conjure a weak shot that Wright collects at his near post.

    Everton break and Blue shirts flood forward.

    Campbell looks set to shoot but pulls the ball back for Pembridge. The Blues have over played it and when the shot finally comes Pearce blocks it.

    Everton make a change to run down the clock. Li Tie is replaced by Pistone.

    Di Canio puts the ball in the box from the left and a half clearence falls to Sinclair at the back post........

    .....the England international makes a hash of his volley and the chance is wasted.

    Backs against the wall now for Everton as Defoe tries a shot from distance.......

    .....his rasping drive takes a deflection off Yobo's out stretched leg and loops into Wright's grasp.

     Some Di Canio trickery manufactures space on the left and the Italian cuts the ball back for Cisse to strike......

     ....Cisse just manages to gets his toe to the ball and scuffs his shot into Wright's grateful hands.

102. That's it! The final whistle blows and Everton have hung on for a 1-0 victory.

103. Over the ninety minutes Everton deserved the three points but really had to soak up some late pressure.

104. Another home defeat for Roeder's side and the Hammers will be looking forward to going on the road again - next up it's league leaders Liverpool.

105. The Hammers remain only one point above the drop zone, while Everton move up to eighth.
