Southampton – Arsenal

3. Arsenal want Luke Shaw <a href="http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/1284638?cc=5739" target="_blank">if reports are to be believed</a>, but Saints won't want to sell.

4. Without wishing to tempt fate, this should be a good one - Southampton are much improved in recent weeks, while Arsenal have gone into a free-scoring frenzy.

5. Team news, starting with hosts Southampton: Boruc, Cork, Yoshida, Fonte, Shaw, Puncheon, Steven Davis, Schneiderlin, Ramirez, Lambert, Do Prado. Subs: Kelvin Davis, Hooiveld, Rodriguez, Ward-Prowse, Richardson, Mayuka, De Ridder.

7. Last time out, Arsenal ran riot against Newcastle at the Emirates, scoring seven. When they played Southampton in North London earlier this season, they scored six.

    ...but Saints are improving steadily. They win the ball back, but Wilshere has it and Arsenal look to move down their right.

    An excellent challenge by Shaw stops Oxlade-Chamberlain in his tracks on the right-hand side of the Saints area.

    It really is all Arsenal - Rickie Lambert tries to win the ball back for the home side, but they can hardly get a touch at the moment.

    Sagna and Davis clash heads in a midfield challenge - both look OK, if a touch dazed.

    Walcott chases a long ball forward, but is thwarted by some good defending. Then Cazorla has a blast from a long way out, and it's deflected narrowly wide.

    Recalled keeper Boruc fumbles the corner, but the Gunners can't take advantage and the ball is hacked away.

    Cazorla plays a fine pass from left to right - and Boruc again fumbles the cross and is lucky to escape.

    Another Arsenal corner - and this time Boruc claims well. That'll make him feel better.

    He throws out to Shaw, who gallops forward and, from that Boruc catch, Saints have gone up to the other end and won a corner.

    Arsenal aren't at all comfortable in dealing with it, and in the end are relieved just to hack it away unceremoniously.

    Better from the home side at the moment - but then Walcott chases a ball forward and Boruc leaves his area to clear.

    Davis slips the ball through to Lambert, but the flag is up against the Saints' star striker.

    Fine header clear by Shaw, and then Ramirez, on the break, tries to feed Lambert. And fails.

    Lively fare in these opening moments. Southampton want a free-kick on the edge of the area, but aren't given it.

    Some gusto from Nigel Adkins' men - some good, strong midfield challenges going in as they try to disrupt the Arsenal rhythm.

    Podolski, fed by Cazorla, has a shooting chance but is closed down very quickly and can't get his effort on target.

    Lovely touch by Lambert, but Vermaelen intercepts his dangerous-looking pass before it can reach a colleague just outside the area.

    Jack Cork, in defence tonight, takes a throw inside his own half. Southampton lose possession, and there are a few players slipping and sliding on what looks a pretty skiddy pitch.

    Good possession now from Southampton, being patient and keeping the ball.

    And a good noise from the visiting fans, who won't have enjoyed Koscielny giving the ball away in midfield.

    Lambert has a swipe at goal from distance, but there's nothing in that one to alarm the Gunners.

    Southampton are unrecognisable defensively from the side that shipped all those goals at the Emirates earlier in the season.

    Boruc has the ball, and Saints go forward. Then there's a strong challenge between Ramirez and Wilshere, and the Arsenal man is down and appears in some pain.

    It was a strong challenge by the Saints man, and this is worrying for the Gunners.

    Southampton now look the better of the two teams on the ball, but here comes Oxlade-Chamberlain after a poor kick by Boruc...

    The flag-kick is cleared, and good pressure by Puncheon, chasing a ball down the right, wins a throw near the Arsenal penalty area.

    Shaw, who has had a good game so far, tries to find an early cross but is unable to steer his attempt beyond the first defender.

    Sagna suddenly finds loads of space down the right as Southampton's defence gets drawn into the middle. His ball in is poor, though, and nothing comes of it.

    The home side are winning an awful lot of loose balls in midfield. From one, Ramirez tries to jink a path through but is crowded out.

    The home fans wanted a free-kick for that, but it was - at best - an optimistic shout.

    Half an hour gone, and this is very even. Not much to speak of in the way of goalscoring opportunities, and Arsenal have not succeeded in recapturing the crispness of their earlier play.

    The rangy Do Prado is on the run again, but he tries to do too much, attempting to wriggle between two opponents, and is thwarted.

    Southampton in possession in their own half. Forward they come, and Shaw has it now...

    ...Ramirez then tries to clip a pass through for Lambert, but it's just too strong.

    Chaos in defence by Arsenal - they cant clear the ball and it will fall to Ramirez with a shooting chance just inside the area...

     Davis then finds Ramirez inside the area - the flag is up, even though he hooks home. He looked on: an escape for Arsenal there.
