Newcastle United – Arsenal

1. Arsenal could all but seal their title with three points at St James' Park. Join us at 4.05 BST.

2. Sylvain Wiltord makes his first Premiership start for 6 months in the place of Robert Pires; Dennis Bergkamp makes way for Reyes and Silva starts instead of Lujgberg. Newcastle are bolstered by the return to fitness of Andy O'Brien - Titus Bramble starts on the bench. A big game for Arsenal though probably even bigger for Newcastle. The volume is cranked up and Newcastle get us under way

   Long punt forward from Given sees Shearer challenging for the ball with Toure. The Arsenal man comes out on top and we can expect that battle to be a full-blooded one

   Reyes gets the ball at his feet and looks to drive forward before a perfectly timed challenge from Jenas halts him in his tracks

5. 3'

   Bellamy finds space at the back line by hanging on Toure's shoulder before darting away. Wonderfully weighted ball from Speed sets him away but he rather hurries his shot and it is comfortable for Lehmann

   Newcastle making the running - literally - early on as their plan is clearly to test the tired legs of the leaders from the off

   Wonderful football! Shearer, out wide on the right is in a criminal amout of space. Takes a few strides forward before delivering a low cross towards Bellamy. Slightly behind him but improvises with a little flick off his heel to wrong foot Lehmann. Looks like a goal before the German gets down sharply to turn it away. Great stuff

   Corner comes over with Newcastle crowding out Lehmann. He doesn't like it but still gets up to palm it away

   Real opportunity for Newcastle to create something as Jenas comes from midfield with two runners to look for. Interception from Toure is timely

    Bellamy, out wide on the left, does well to keep the ball in before riding a tackle and getting in a cross that is deflected behind for another corner

    Lehmann shows good handling to collect the high ball swung in

    Tenacious work in the middle from Cole wins possession before releasing Henry behind the Newcastle line but Given is alert enough to come out of his box and clear the danger

    Arsenal finding it difficult to get out of their own half with the home side pressing really high up the field at every opportunity

    Sharp challenge form Ambrose on Cole is rightly pulled up for a foul. He is lucky to get away with out a card

    A poor delivery from Henry doesn't clear the first defender and the break looks on before Bellamy is fouled

    As a clear sign of how the match is going Lehmann takes an age to pick up a ball to slow the game down and give his defence a breather

    O'Brien shows good positional sense to cover round the back for Bernard who had allowed Henry to get past him

    Arsenal's first real chance. Newcastle give the ball away in midfield, Reyes takes in down the right before holding the ball up and squaring across the 18 yard line to Henry in space. Lines up the curling effort but it goes just wide of Givens left hand post

    The early pace has settled down a bit and Arsenal are enjoying a bit more possession

    Woodgate plays long for Shearer. He misses/leaves it and Ambrose collects and hits the by line. His cross is charged down by Cole for a Newcastle corner

    The cross from Robert is aimed for the back post but it over runs and goes for a goal kick

    Wiltord gets what seems like his first touch after a slip by Speed but Barnard halts his progress

    Speed sends a volleyed back pass to Given nearly sets Henry free on goal

    Disjointed period of play as both sides concede a couple of needless fouls

    Shearer is angered by a late offside flag and with good cause after his run is timed to perfection

    Newcastle's turn to be pegged back in their own half as they struggle to use a couple of throw ins down by their own corner flag. Good Arsenal pressure

    Gilberto and Speed get tangled up with each other in a heap on the floor. The referee awards in the Arsenal man's favour

    Woodgate and Given combine to thwart Reyes after a long ball is punted up to him on the edge of the Newcastle box

    Speed chips the ball up to Bellamy who uses his stregth tto hold it up and feed Barnard on the left for the cross. Not the best but Shearer keeps the ball in play

    Ball eventually reaches Jenas about 30 yards out dead centre. Takes a touch and unleashes a powerful drive but it is sliced slightly and misses by some distance in the end

    The game has gone a bit flat in the last ten minutes with neither side creating any clear cut opportunities

    Henry cuts in from the left wing a good distance from goal. Under no pressure he tries his luck and the effort is a poor one. Although he can score from there Henry had options in the box and the shot was wasteful

    Reyes wriggles his way into the box from the left and after riding a couple of challenges squares to Edu in the middle. As he was about to strike Bernard did enough to ruffle him and the chance was lost

    Reyes gets in behind Hughes on the left once again. With no one attacking the area in the middle Reyes is forced to shoot from a difficult angle and puts it just wide

    Bellamy shows his own brand of determination by scampering after Campbell all the way back into his own half before looking to trip the big defender after the ball has been released.

    Henry makes a diagonal run with the ball across the Newcastle back line until space opens up in front of him. Tries to cut the ball back across the keeper to the far post but angles it too much and the shot rolls wide

    Newcastle have numbers forward on a break before Robert wastes the advantage with a looping cross that is always going to find the hands of Lehmann

    A one two between Reyes and Edu in the middle finds the Spaniard bearing down on Woodgate. The England defender makes one challenge, then another from Edu following up before calmly distributing the ball out wide. Quality, unfussy defending

    Bellamy and Cole get caught up with each other - not for the first time - to earn the Newcastle man a free kick

    As the game starts to get a bit fractious Jenas clatters into the back of Vieira and is lucky to escape without a booking

    Robert is robbed of the ball by Cole at left back and he lauches a quick move involving Henry and Reyes. Just as it looked as though Henry was going to play Reyes in, the Frenchman over hits the pass and the ball goes out of play

    Best chance of the match so far. A sloppy back pass from Jenas plays in Wiltord for a one on one with Given. The goal looks a formality before he scuffs the effort and the ball trickles a foot wide of the upright. Terrible miss

    Arsenal finish the half around the Newcastle box as a dangerous looking cross is hacked away.

    No stoppage time and the half ends without a goal.

    Decent opening from Newcastle had Arsenal on the back foot before they seemed to ease up and allow the leaders a lot more of the ball. Bellamy looks Newcastle's main threat with his strenght and pace whilst for the visitors, Reyes continues to look more at home in the Premiership. Not a great deal of goalmouth action once the game settled down but Wiltord really should have given Arsenal the lead as the half came to a close

    No changes at the break and the second half kicks off

    Lehmann once more shows nervousness with the ball at his feet and puts Cole in trouble with a short pass. Good Newcastle pressure but Cole eventually gets it away

    Newcastle free kick from over 30 yards out tempts Robert to have a pop but his piledriver crashes into the Arsenal wall

    A long ball forward from Bernard sees Shearer and Lehmann in a race for the ball. The offside flag is raised but the pair still refuse to pull out and crash, fairly, into each other.

    Ambrose chip up to Shearer on the edge of the box, flick on to Bellamy and a chance for the Welshman. Just fails to wrap his foot around a bouncing ball and doesn't trouble Lehmann in the end. Difficult chance

    Newcastle have started the second half much as they did the first, playing high up the pitch and forcing the pace

    Corner from Newcastle is cleared up to Henry. Only Reyes with him and communication between the pair is not at its best as Henry plays the ball to where Reyes is not

    Robert is tripped by Gilberto to give Newcastle a free kick in a dangerous position, just left of centre, 25 yards out

    Robert keeps it low and avoids the wall but Lehmann gets down to his left and holds it at the second attempt

    Great surging run from Vieira down the left, cut back to reyes who skips into the box before he is muscled out of it by the combined efforts of two Newcastle men

    Shearer is upended by Vieira out right, midway in the half

    Robert is behind it again but despite looking to pick out someone in the box, no one gets a touch and it runs through to a grateful Lehmann

    Break in play whilst Cole receives treatment after a collision with Speed

    Campbell is penalised for a pull on Shearer to earn Newcastle a free kick level with the 18 yard box on the right flank. Cross is slung in but the Arsenal defence stand firm

    Bellamy collects a long pass deep on the right and runs directly at Cole. Tries a cross but Cole deflects it off for corner

    Corner is swung over and Lehmann is under massive pressure from the Newcastle forwards. He doesn't like it but there was no foul

    A terrible miss from Henry. Just onside, he is played in for a one on one with Given but he pushes the ball too far wide and, sliding to reach it, can only hit the post. Should have scored

    Decent little period for Arsenal as the action has shifted to the Newcastle half

    Henry again is well forward with the ball at his feet. This time he elects to cut back towards the path of Vieira but O'Brien is in the right place to clear his lines

    A big meele of players clash in the centre of the pitch and it is difficult to see exactly who did what

    After a chat with his linesman the referee decides all that is needed is a quick word with Bellamy and Lauren and the game is back underway

    A lung bursting run down the left from Bernard gets him in behind Lauren and into the box. Everyone is expecting a cross but he instead goes for the near post. Lehmann probably had it covered but the shot only finds the side netting anyway

    The game is opening out a bit more at the moment though neither side has really managed to get a proper handle on it and dominate possession

    Newcastle press and hurry the Arsenal defence until Bellamy is able toi tackle Campbell. It could have been much worse for Campbell as the last man but the ball runs out for a throw

    Deep cross swung over is aimed at Shearer in the Arsenal box but Campbell is big and strong to deny him a touch of the ball

    A Wiltord cross from the right is cleared only as far as Reyes. He takes a touch and they shapes to shoot but he doesn't make the connection he wanted and though it is on target the shot has no power at all

    Robert tries his luck from what must have been 40 yards with predictable consequences. An absolute waste

    Deep curling cross from Henry picks out Reyes all alone at the back post about 6 yards out. the header lacks conviction and is directed straight down Given's throat. Should have done better

    At the other end Bellamy and Campbell tussle and struggle all the way into the box. Both end up on the floor but Campbell's defending was spot on. No foul and the space cancelled out

    Henry cuts in from the left and unleashes a powerful drive from 25 yards. Looks to be a decent effort but in the end drifts well high and wide

    Arsenal substitutions: Bergkamp and Pires enter the fray atb the expense of the ineffectual Wiltord and the hard working Reyes

    Newcastle substitutions: Viana replaces Robert who looked tired whilst Bowyer is on for Ambrose who had a decent game

    Shearer shows his typical strength to outjump Campbell and flick on for Bellamy to chase. The Welshman is forced wide though and struggles to get a shot on goal worthy of the name. Route one stuff but nearly opened the Arsenal defence

    The substitutions have injected some urgency into the contest for both sides but the play is a little scrappy still

    Cole tries to play in Henry over the top but O'Brien gets there first to head back towards his keeper. However, the Header is too strong and a corner is conceded

    Henry's corner is met with a thumping header from Shearer at the near post to clear Newcastle lines

    A deep, looping cross from the right touchline from Bowyer looks like a problem for Lehmann who challenges with Shearer. The German though is equal too it and gets in a great take

    Bowyer skips past Vieira so he trips him to earn a yellow card

    Shearer and Lehmann get involved in a comedy spat with each other after tangling once more as the keeper collects a cross. A little push here and a couple of words there eventually leads to the referee telling Lehmann off. Children, children....

    Cole - who got a knock on his ankle earlier in the match - goes over on it again and has to leave the pitch. He takes his time and boos rain down on the injured England man

    Two minutes of added time is announced but it may be more after Cole's protracted departure

    Clichy, Cole's replacement, is given a test straight away under pressure from Bellamy but the Arsenal man is equal to it

    Arsenal corner presents Toure with a free header after O'Brien and Bernard get in each others way. The angled header flashes wide of the goal and probably should have been better executed

    Whistle goes and the game ends without a goal. Arsenal preserve their unbeaten run in the Premiership whilst Newcastle move level on points with Liverpool - behind them due to a goal difference of one. A game that never really reached entertaining heights and a draw was probably about right - neither team deserved to win it. Arsenal had the best chances with Henry and Wiltord the guilty men.
