Manchester United – Liverpool

1. Join us at 1245 GMT to see if Liverpool can reignite their title charge by beating Man Utd at Old Trafford.

2. Hi there, and welcome to one of the biggest games of the season. 19 years and counting for Liverpool and a win today would put them back in contention for the title.

3. However, a loss and it's all over. United will be the more confident as they haven't conceded a goal at OT against the Reds for the past few seasons.

4. Team news, and the combative Tevez gets a start up front with Dimi Berbatov dropped to the bench. Scholes and Giggs are there too, so it's an imposing prospect for Fergie to bring on.

5. For Liverpool, Alonso is the big miss with United fans pleased to see Lucas starting. And Riera is back in the side, with Ryan Babel unlucky to miss out after a good showing against Madrid.

6. The stakes are pretty high, the teams don't like each other and it's got a real cup tie feel to it. Liverpool HAVE to win, so they really have to attack. Should be a cracker.

7. United will be favourites as they're at home. And wouldn't they just love to end Liverpool's title chances.

8. Oh and some late drama. Álvaro Arbeloa is out. Sami Hyypia is in. Carragher must play right back, surely he won't use Skrtel there again?

9. That's upset some of the balance. And of course, United will look to take advantage. We're nearly ready for the off... Premier League title anyone?

    Here we go. It's the big one. United kick off and will attack to the left.

    All the way back to Van der Sar already. Liverpool haven't had a kick yet.

    Rooney breaks down the left and uses his pace against Carragher. Wins a corner with a good run.

    Need to watch Vidic here, but it's well cleared from the near post. Rooney and Carragher clash again down the left, the Scousers are going to be going head to head all day long.

    Great cross from Tevez, but too high for Rooney. They really have some livewires up front.

    Ronaldo down the right, gets the ball across the box and Park is there, but Carragher throws himself in the way. Great defending and it's another corner.

    Liverpool unable to get out of their own half and Park intercepts again.

    Liverpool looking for that long ball over the top, but haven't seen Torres at all yet and they keep giving the ball back for United to attack.

    Now Torres has a chance to run at the defence. He's surrounded by three defenders, runs into Ferdinand who sticks his leg out but the ref doesn't blow up.

    29 games, only 9 of them have seen Gerrard and Torres play together. They are looking the biggest threat for the Reds again today.

    The game has slowed down a bit now, noone is picking up possession. Torres is being booed and Lucas is trying his best to break through a resolute United defence. To no avail.

    Ronaldo loses out to Aurelio on the right. He's not been in the game much, although has put one decent ball in.

    Skrtel just missed Rooney's head with that pass. The striker would have been through on goal if he'd been an inch taller.

    Great run from Skrtel into the box. Who does he think he is? No-one challenged the centre back until Ferdinand came in to hassle him off the ball.

    What a ball from Aurelio, in to Gerrard who breaks into the box. Vidic shows some great defending though as he gets his body across the Reds skipper.

    How the Serbian got across there was impressive. He really is a quality player.

    Evra wastes possession with a shot that flies over. Rooney gave him some lip there after he didn't pass.

    Torres across to Riera, but he's crowded out. Not sure what he was trying to do there, but whatever it was it didn't work.

    Very cool from Pepe Reina. Bisected two United attackers with a pass and didn't look phased. Shame Casillas is so good or he'd be in the Spain side.

    Carragher messes up and concedes the corner. Ferdinand is there, but it goes behind for another. Now Anderson swings it in and Kuyt breaks. Great tracking back from Park there to hassle Kuyt all the way.

    Park appears to be surging forward a lot, almost playing as a striker in between Tevez and Rooney.

    Good work from Tevez wins the ball back, but Aurelio has the beating of Ronaldo at the moment.

    United are well drilled in defence and Liverpool aren't able to get Torres on the ball. Mascherano tries to nutmeg Evra, but the Frenchman closes his legs just in time.

    Good possession from Liverpool has the crowd booing. But they're not breaking through at the moment.

    Now Gerrard and Torres combine. O'Shea was there, but the Spaniard went past Ferdinand as if he was a ghost. He had to take another touch and was just robbed before he could shoot.

    Gerrard is lining up a long free kick. Curls it in towards Skrtel, but it's over his head.

    Tevez through to Park, his pace takes him through and Reina comes crashing out.

    GOAL! Ronaldo steps up. So calm. Puts it to the keeper's right and it's too good.

    United are so dangerous. Liverpool had the best of the last ten mins, but then Tevez and Park combined. A cruel blow for the Reds, but great counter attacking from Fergie's men.

    Now the crowd are into the game again. Roaring United on.

    Rooney was totally free on the left there. Ronaldo crossed to him, but it was too far. The striker did well to bring it down, but was closed down by Hyypia.

    United playing the possession game. Liverpool still look fragile and now they have a real mountain to climb.

    GOAL! Torres! What a mistake from Vidic.

    Out of nothing. The long ball over the top and Vidic didn't clear. He let it go and then Torres' pace took over.

    Stunning pace. Through on goal and what a cool finish from Torres. VDS had no chance.

    Reina was nowhere from a United corner. Ronaldo leap high but it eluded him.

    Torres now nutmegs Vidic. He's rattled the Serbian. Lucky O'Shea was there to clear.

    Torres is causing real problems up front on his own. United won't want to leave him alone against Vidic again.

    Now Vidic uses his strength in the box. Torres pops it over his head and tries to get around him. Was he blocked off? Ref says no.

    Ronaldo wastes a free-kick. Hyypia clears easily.

    Vidic and Torres resume their battle again as the long ball finds the Spaniard. What a tussle.

    Ronaldo smashes a free-kick from 40 yards. It got to Reina on the full, but he spills it! Oh and JUST gathers with Park closing in. Nearly a calamity from the keeper.

    Cynical foul from Carragher. Tevez was bursting through on the left and the defender caught his heels. Bad foul and a yellow card.

    Ronaldo will want to test Reina again. Only two in the wall.

    Wasted. He tees up Rooney on the edge of the box but Kuyt blocks the shot. Now there's a break on. Evra does really well to snuff it out.

    Ferdinand slides in on Kuyt. The yellows are flowing now and Alan Whiley has to keep a lid on this.

    Ronaldo has wasted it again as Hyypia comes across to cut it out. He's not had much luck running at defenders today. Liverpool still look dangerous on the break.

    Good play between Riera and Aurelio, but the ball finds its way across to Park. Evra is overlapping and there's a corner won.

    Reina does really well to punch from underneath his crossbar. Vidic really wants to make amends for his mistake.

    Torres collects and his ball through is cut out by Ferdinand. Liverpool look content to go in with a draw at half time.

    Great turn from Carrick past Lucas. He's been poor so far, but gets away and has a shot. Rasping effort and it's just wide.

    Tevez was pointing left, but Gerrard went right and so did VDS. Vidic and Evra have contributed to United's downfall in this half. Great pen from the skipper.

    Nothing came of it and Rooney can break. Great defending from Carragher again! Came across with Park and Ronaldo around.

    Ronaldo's cross comes off the post! Reina is having a mare! The ball swung in, but the keeper didn't get there and it rebounded off the near stick. Lucky he reacted quickly before Rooney pounced.

    Torres is haring around up front and trying to put some pressure on Vidic and Ferdinand. United now trying to build and O'Shea is getting forward well.

    Vidic chooses the safe route back to VDS again with Torres around. He still doesn't look comfortable.

    Oh dear, Torres is hobbling. He got a knock there and it looks like the right ankle. N'gog is on the bench!

    He looks ok though, and is just running it off. Great tracking from Kuyt and Skrtel did well to stop Rooney getting through.

    Lucas goes in well on Rooney, but it's a free-kick. He looked to get the ball, but the ref was close enough to see for himself.

    Ronaldo lining it up from 35 yards. This time Reina grasps the ball easily.

    Fantastic ball from Anderson finds Park running through on the edge of the box. Aurelio comes across and cuts out the danger, but that was a close one.

    Tevez wrestled to the ground by Mascherano. Anderson gees up the crowd and the noise is deafening. Rooney tries to hook the ball back in, but it comes off Kuyt's shoulder.

    Liverpool are defending in numbers now. It's all United pouring forward and this is dangerous.

    How lucky were United there? A cut out ball, but Torres was caught offside coming back, otherwise there was a two on one and he was through.

    Tevez does really well. He backs up against Carragher and gets away, his cross is dipping under the bar but Reina pushes it over.

    Now the corner comes in. Reina and Skrtel going for it and they collide. Park is there... but Reina dives on the ball right on his goal line. Boy that was close.

    Top tackle on Rooney there. Mascherano and Lucas converge and come away with the ball with Hyypia wildly out of position.

    Ronaldo is heading back across to the right side, Rooney on the left. They need to do something to get a spark. No movement on the bench yet.

    Gerrard not getting any space at all. Great work from Anderson and the ball breaks for Rooney. He cuts inside and his shot is blocked behind for a corner.

    Top defending from Kuyt. He's really fighting hard, running back and putting the tackles in. We haven't seen much of Gerrard or Torres yet.

     Flowing football from United. Great stuff, it comes across to Ronaldo who whips the ball in. Rooney reverses it back across goal and Tevez is there in the box. He just overran it, but there were calls for a pen. Not given.

     Skrtel is the latest to get a yellow are coming through the back of Tevez.

     Vidic forced to smash the ball back to VDS. Good pressing from Liverpool and Torres is chasing everything down.

     Riera now has some space and floats the ball in. Headed clear, and it falls to Lucas on the edge of the box. He doesn't get his shot timed and an easy save for VDS.

     Liverpool really pegged back. United having trouble breaking them down. There are a lot of bodies in the way at the moment.

     Hmm. Interesting. Riera comes off. Dossena comes on. More defensive solidity perhaps?

     Ferdinand a rock at the back for United whenever Liverpool attack. Kuyt's crosses aren't finding any success.

     Aurelio smashes a shot in, but blocked. The noise is all coming from the Liverpool fans. That says a lot.

     Oh, great chance. The ball is looped over by Carrick. Tevez is offside, but no flag is waved and he slips his shot wide of the post.

     Aurelio and Skrtel go for the same ball, but escape without too much problem. Ronaldo controls the ball and hits it with a lot of serve, but over.

     Giggs, Scholes and Berbatov come on for Anderson, Park and Carrick. Fergie is taking a chance here, but he has to. Last roll of the dice for the boss.

     Tevez nearly gets through. An incisive ball from Ronaldo, but just out of his range. If he'd have controlled it, Reina was committed.

     Vidic and Gerrard tangled. The skipper was through and it's RED!

     Just as Fergie brought his three subs on, Vidic was beaten by Gerrard and hauls him down. He was the last man, Gerrard was through on goal, and that's another good decision. Vidic is off.

     Incredible stuff! What a great effort. In the space of a minute United have had a man sent off and now go 3-1 down. VDS didn't even move.

     What a match. The momentum is with Liverpool now after having a quiet second half absorbing pressure. This would be an amazing result.

     Torres cuts the pass out and has a go from inside the centre circle with VDS off his line. Babel is warming up on the touchline.

     Every single player is in the Liverpool half, except for VDS at the moment. Torres is now coming off and Babel's fresh legs run on.

     Liverpool will look to counter attack now, keeping it tight at the back and pushing for a fourth.

     Ronaldo, who has hardly had a kick for the last twenty mins, gets the ball across and Berbatov sends it back. Reina does really well there to grab it before Rooney arrives.

     Oh shocking. Dossena gets the ball across, Babel traps it and backheels to Gerrard. Who fluffs it over the bar. How unlike the Liverpool skipper.

     Berbatov hits the post, but is offside anyway. It's slipping away now.

     Well that sums up Ronaldo's day. Rooney smashes the ball across, it misses everyone and once he's controlled it, he miskicks it behind him. Good chance to get a shot on target, but Reina hasn't had much to do this half.

     Mascherano panicked there as Ronaldo's free-kick came off the wall. Corner, but surely this is too much for United to overcome now.

     Rooney hits a hopeful shot, but it's flown wide.

     GOAL! And it's four! Dossena breaks and loops the ball over VDS. Reina gets the assist and that was a really nice finish. 4-1! Amazing!

     And we're nearly there. Liverpool have been the better side and you thought United would put up more of a fight.

     Reina has not had much to do, other than bring down Park and United have struggled - even before Vidic was sent off.

     And that's it! Liverpool have thrashed United. Vidic was to blame for the equaliser and for his sending off, but Liverpool were fantastic after their drubbing of Real Madrid.
