Evening all and welcome to our coverage of Leeds United vs Liverpool in the 3rd round of the Carling Cup. With just ten minutes until kick-off, you guessed it, the team news is in.

Leeds are unbeaten so far in League One with seven wins and one draw- they won 4-1 against Gillingham at the weekend. Jermaine Beckford is their top scorer with six in the league.

Rafa's men will be looking to build on their 3-2 victory at West Ham last Saturday and they've got a pretty formidable looking bench with Torres and Gerrard to bring on if the going gets tough.

The sides have only met once before in this competition, in 1972. They drew 2-2 at Anfield in a fourth-round tie before the Reds won the replay 1-0, with ESPN pundit Kevin Keegan grabbing the winner at Elland Road.

The players are out on the pitch and former Liverpool under-18s captain Jay Spearing is set to make his full debut in central midfield.

Aurelio gives it away early on and Beckford is sent tumbling in the area by Carragher...no penalty.

Good strength by Carragher, it definitely wasn't a pen.

Free-kick leeds inside their own half, know sign of the Leeds' supporters quietening down- this is the biggest match Elland Road has seen for years.

Snodgrass has looked very lively down the right wing for Leeds and he wins another corner, great jinking run.

Liverpool break now with Babel and Spearing.

The attack breaks down and it's been an unconvincing start from this makeshift Liverpool side.

Only one goal between the outfield players on show tonight for Rafa's men this season.

Mascherano threads it in to Ngog but it's cleared for a throw-in.

Johnson goes through Degen who's struggling after that but the ref just has a word.

Kyrgiakos boots it long, very hopeful.

Becchio curls it from 25 yards but it's wide. Snodgrass was in acres to his right.

Becchio scored 19 last season but he was some way off there.

Snodgrass involved again and he might be catching the eye of some Championship and Premier League managers with his performance so far this evening.

Ngog shows a good turn of pace but he's got no support.

But he's pickpocketed by Babel and it's a great break. The winger takes on the Leeds defence at full flow but a disappointingly weak shot is all he can muster.

Snodgrass and Beckford combine well but the winger's cross is just turned out by Degen. Good work from Leeds again.

Degen fires it long and I'm struggling to distinguish which side is in the Premier League and which is in League One.

Kisnorbo, looking very Terry Butcher-esque, bandaged from a head injury in a previous game, blocks Riera's long range effort.

Becchio and Snodgrass again pivotal in Leeds' attack. Crowe tries to stand one up at the backpost but it drifts out for a goal-kick.

Pompey are now 2-1 up, lucky lucky Mr Hart.

Liverpool have a fre-kick just inside the Leeds half. It's Aurelio to take.

He floats it in but Kyrgiakos can't climb high enough.

Snodgrass curls an inviting ball in but it's straight through the middle of Becchio and Beckford, unlucky.

Spearing drives through midfield but the Liverpool academy graduate has another shot from distance blocked away.

Free-kick Leeds, taken by Kisnorbo. Johnson wins the header but he looks unhappy with Degen.

Both players have a moan but Alan Wiley waves away the discussions.

Riera gets to the by-line but can't deliver.

Crowe lifts it forward and Snodgrass is up but the ball bounces in the area and Carragher hooks it away.

Ngog brought down by Crowe after a driving run and the Leeds full back is booked for his troubles.

Great chance. Aurelio's free-kick is met by an unmarked Riera and Higgs saves from point blank range.

Poor marking there but hats off to the former Cheltenham keeper, good save.

Half-time at Elland Road. Leeds have impressed, especially the attacking trio of becchio, Beckford and Snodgrass, while Liverpool have laboured. All the discussions will be about the offside goal I reckon.

Had a good look at the replay and apparently the linesman flagged Jermaine Beckford offside, not Becchio. Either way, he was wrong as both players were onside. Oh well, it's all ifs and buts now.

Liverpool sweep forward early on with Spearing but Kisnorbo intercepts.

Riera breaks through down the right side but Kisnorbo does well again.

Snodgrass jinks through two Liverpool defenders but the ball bounces around the area before being cleared.

The ball asking to be laid back to Beckford but Johnson waits a split second too long.

Kisnorbo has been a colossus so far in the second half, he heads out again with Ngog on his back.

Aurelio takes it but cleared by Michalik.

Riera lays it off to Spearing on the edge of the area but the youngster blasts it over.

The forward beats Kyrgiakos and clean through he can't get a good enough contact and Cavalieri saves.

Howson's shot deflected and it takes the sting off enough to make it easy pickings for Cavalieri.

Snodgrass lifts it in and it's knocked out to Doyle who has hit it over the stand. That takes some doing.

Leeds still looking the more dangerous, and they have a throw-in, deep in Liverpool territory.

Mascherano and Beckford have a clash of heads. Cries of "off, off off" unsurprisingly resonating around Elland Road.

The Argentinian struck him on the head and if the ref had seen it he could have been in trouble.

Liverpool starting to build some pressure but Macherano has an outrageous effort from 30 yards. Wide.

Mascherano lands painfully on his back after going up for a header.

Drop-ball and Carragher sportingly sends it back to Higgs in the Leeds goal.

Beckford with an outstanding effort. Johnson crosses and with the ball behind him Beckford hooks it over his shoulder and just over the crossbar.

Ngog it is. Mascherano volleys it in to the box. A great first touch from the Frenchman and he slots it in to the corner from eight yards.

Great finish by Ngog. He's the only man on the field who has scored for Liverpool this season.

Spearing with a penalty appeal but it would seem Michalik got the ball. Good decision to turn it down by Alan Wiley.

Spearing releases Degen who pulls it back but Ngog forced off the ball and no-one else around to attack the cross.

Degen is carrying a knock but he's been one of Liverpool's best attacking outlets.

Leeds struggling to create chances now and Liverpool have definitely asserted themselves on the game since the goal.

Michalik lifts it to becchio but he flicks it on to no-one. He's cut a subdued figure in the second half.

Leeds spread the ball and attack with Crowe.

Becchio lays it off to Johnson with his chest and he half volleys straight down Cavalieri's throat.

Beckford with a great touch over his head but Kyrgiakos wins it off him and the striker looks frustrated.

Aurelio crosses and Michalik fires it away. the Premier League club exerting real control.

Howson searches for Beckford, he's got the pace but just couldn't quite stretch a leg out.

Becchio boots the bench in frustration, his ruled out goal was extremely unlucky.

Johnson works some space down the right but his namesake Bradley Johnson intercepts.

Riera brought down by Doyle. Liverpool free-kick.

Liverpool controlling possession with wase.

Crowe crosses and the crowd are on their feet everytime an attack is launched.

Grella almost finds a way through after a mix-up at the back but can't capitalise.

Babel brought down by Kisnorbo right on the edge. Gerrard or Aurelio have got to fancy this free-kick.

Aurelio's effort was going wide but it deflects over for a corner.

Cleared out and leeds try and muster a counter with Snodgrass.

Babel and Riera link well and Johnson advances for Liverpool.

Gerrard threads one through to Babel but there's just too much juice on that one.

Babel strikes a vicious effort from the left edge of the area but it fizzes inches over.

Grella goes for glory from the edge of the area, outrageous attempt when there were three players waiting for the cross.

Gerrard in acres and the Liverpool captain races through and unleashes a left foot shot into the side netting.

Four minutes of added time to play. I've got a feeling Leeds will need more than that.

Great finish by Ngog and after his cooly taken goal it was a stroll for the Premier League side. It could have been a different story had Becchio's first-half goal been allowed to stand. But Leeds should be proud of their efforts. Snodgrass especially looks an excellent prospect.
