Everton – Manchester City

2. Good Afternoon all, and welcome to live coverage of the game between Everton and Manchester City from Goodison Park. Kick off is at 17.30pm.

3. Everton: Howard, Neville, Heitinga, Distin, Baines, Donovan, Fellaini, Pienaar, Bilyaletdinov, Cahillm and Saha. Subs: Nash, Vaughan, Forshaw, Coleman, Duffy, Baxter and Mustafi.

4. Man City: Given, Zabaleta, Richards, Kompany, Garrido, Petrov, De Jong, Barry, Bellamy, Tevez and Santa Cruz. Subs: Taylor, Onuoha, Sylvinho, Wright-Phillips, Robinho, Mwaruwari and Boyata.

5. So, Landon Donovan makes his home debut for the Toffees, Leon Osman misses out. Tim Cahill will play just off Saha.

6. Santa Cruz is in for City, and will play up front with the red-hot Carlos Tevez. Wright-Phillips is on the bench, as is Robinho. Here come the teams...

   An early reducer from Cahill on Garrido, but no cards shown.

   Tevez looks busy, and he's bang in form of course. He skips past Fellaini and wins a throw in before Petrov blasts a shot high and wide.

    Santa Cruz is down and it doesn't look good. Plenty of time for him to run it off though.

    Santa Cruz is limping off and it looks like Robinho is preparing to come on.

    City soak up possession as they wait to bring on their substitute. Everton break and only a good tackle from Zabaleta prevents Saha getting into the area.

    Everton's latest move breaks down and Robinho can finally come on.

    Petrov makes up for his earlier effort with a much better strike on goal. It was curling into the far corner before Howard parried clear.

    Good move from Everton as Pienaar finds Donovan, his cross is met by Bilyaletdinov but his header isn't powerful enough to trouble my friend and yours, smiling Shay Given.

    A pretty even start to the game so far...

    Zabaleta and Cahill tussle by the corner flag before the City defender wins a throw in.

    A good City break is disrupted by Heitinga after Petrov looked for Tevez inside the area.

    As City regrouped, Petrov crossed, Tevez flicked on and Robinho flashes a volley just over the bar from ten yards out. A difficult chance.

20. 15'

    Fellaini rises to nod Neville's cross back towards goal and Saha misses his kick on the edge of the six yard box. A good chance.

    Robinho is flattened by Fellaini and from the free kick Petrov finds Richards but his header is weak.

    Bellamy does well to close down Neville but he can't hunt down the ball to make the full back pay fully.

    Pienaar is hustled off the ball by Barry, then Fellaini is penalised for a similar challenge. Goodison howls.

    A great chance for Landon Donovan to open his account after Saha tackled De Jong, he was to the right of the area and lifted the ball over Shay Given but it was neither cross nor shot and the chance goes begging.

    Donovan is striving for his first goal. He cuts in and belts a shot on target but a deflection off Zabaleta takes it behind for a corner.

    Kompany clatters Cahill and the game is coming to life after a slovenly start..

    Another Everton corner...

    Fellaini meets Donovan's deep corner but his header is right at Given.

    Saha finds Cahill in the area but Barry got there first and was clipped. It should be a City free kick but its an Everton corner. Barry clears, fittingly.

    Fellaini cracks a left-footed half-volley from the edge of the box but it started wide and went wider.

    Fellaini is writhing in pain after a bump from Barry and an awkward fall.

    Bilyaletdinov slams a half-volley just over the bar after a long ball broke to him. Given got a nick on it and Everton have a corner, which Cahill nods over.

    Donovan runs the ball out of play but this is a good spell for Everton. City have shrunk in the last ten minutes.

    Wow, a stepover from Phil Neville wins a corner. there's a sentence I never thought I'd write.

    More injury woe for City. Benjani is getting ready to replace Tevez.

    Pienaar is penalised for winning the ball from Barry. A poor decision from Andre Marriner.

    Tevez launches a mazy run as Benjani waits expectantly on the sidelines. The decision is still to be made it seems.

    Saha cuts inside and Zabaleta clips him. Free kick to Everton on the edge of the box, but near the left hand edge.

    GOAL! Pienaar!

    Pienaar curls the ball into the bottom corner after De Jong broke up the wall. Given got a hand to it but couldn't keep it out and Everton have the lead they deserve.

    Robinho finds himself in space but Fellaini brushes him off the ball far too easily.

    Mancini has much to ponder on the sidelines. His first real test since he took over.

    An aimless downfield punt from Kompany sums up City's current malaise, and Bellamy lets him know how poor the ball was.

    Just hit it Cahill! The Aussie finds loads of space in the area, cuts inside on his right foot, then tries to pick out a tricky pass when he should have hit it.

    What a chance for Bilyaletdinov! Cahill touches off to him and the Russian heads into the area before flashing a shot narrowly wide of the far post. City are being ravaged here.

    Fellaini epitomises Everton's spirit by haring after Bellamy and getting a toe in to stunt the counter.

    Bellamy recieves the ball from Robinho as Cahill was dispossessed and cutrls a shot so close to the far post. Howard got a touch. Corner.

    Richards clearly tugged Saha's shirt as he got the ball into the area. A soft, soft penalty, but those are the rules and Richards can have no complaints.

    GOAL! Saha scores! 2-0!

    That's half time and what an end to it for Everton. They were excellent in the first half, but Richards will be kicking himself for conceding that late penalty. A lot to do in the second half for City and Mancini.

    We begin again, and City have made a half time change: Benjani is on for Petrov.

    An early corner for Everton is cleared then Barry's ball is taken down by Bellamy before Baines gets in between him and Howard to prevent a certain goal.

    A bitty start to the second half it is fair to say. Bellamy has gone wide right after the change, with Robinho left, and Benjani and Tevez up front.

    A superb cross from Phil Neville is met by Cahill but he can't direct it goalwards. The linesman adjudged the cross had gone out of play before curling back in, so it wouldn't have counted anyway.

    Tevez wins a free kick for City after Heitinga charged into him from behind.

    Garrido swings his cross in but Howard watches it behind.

    Saha and Kompany tussle inside the area, as the forward blocks the defender's clearance the ball flashes behind. It was a good few yards wide.

    A tidy spell of City possession is wasted by Robinho, who looks a very poor footballer on this evidence.

    Pienaar is down after a clash with Richards. It wasn't malicious but there was an arm raised by the looks of it. A painful one.

    The game is underway again and Pienaar has recovered. Robinho loses the ball again and chooses to have a pop at the referee for some unknown reason.

    Shaun Wright-Phillips is preparing to come on, as Mancini makes his last change.

    Benjani tires to add to his assist count by finding Robinho but the Brazilian was a yard offside, and Howard saved anyway.

    Robinho is coming off! The substitute is being substituted. A woeful performance in truth, and he goes straight down the tunnel. SWP is on.

    Bellamy, Barry and Pienaar clash and though the ball broke to Donovan and he raced into the area, the ref brings it back for an Everton free kick, which comes to nothing.

    Neville gets a roar for tracking SWP down the left and putting in a solid challenge.

    Distin brings down Benjani and City have a free kick near the corner flag.

    Fellaini clears the free kick and as City regroup Bilyaletdinov hacks away from Bellamy.

    City win a corner that is cleared, and as Garrido crosses Barry heads across goal where Kompany tries but fails to connect.

    Barry tries to float a ball over the top for Tevez but Baines tidies up. then Barry nudges Donovan and gives away a free kick.

    Saha does well to win the ball back off Barry and then Donovan wins a corner.

    Good first time effort from Bellamy after Zabaleta knocked Tevez's cross into his path.

    Seamus Coleman comes on and Sylvain Distin heads off. Presumably, Neville will go to centre half.

    More uncertainty from Richards who dithers on a long ball with Saha chasing behind him. He ends up taking an awkward touch and banging the ball out for a corner.

    Bilyaletdinov somehow emerges from a melee with the ball but his shot is blocked by Kompany.

    Coleman harries Bellamy brilliantly, much to the Welshman's chagrin. What a disagreeable young man he is.

    Bilyaletdinov does well to block a Zabaleta effort, then he goes down the other end and nearly outwits Given with an overhit cross.

    Donovan's corner is cleared to Pienaar, he curls another ball into the area and Kompany concedes another corner.

    Fellaini meets the corner and only a fantastic save from Shay Given prevents a third. The ball hits the bar and bounces down, where Bilyaletdinov smashes a shot over the bar on the bounce from about six yards out.

    So, will the Mancini out campaign start here and now?

    Cahill hits the bar! Baines swings in a brilliant cross and Cahill rises above Kompany to nod the ball back across goal, where it promptly slaps the crossbar and is cleared. City are being pasted here.

    City win a free kick and Cahill collects it three yards from goal under pressure from Tevez before hacking it away.

    Mancini shows he's still got it with an exquisite piece of control on the sidelines. That's the best we've seen from City, right there.

    Everton change: Louis Saha comes off and James Vaughan is on.

    Bilyaletdinov wins a corner after Vaughan harried Zabaleta.

    Fellaini does a Zidane turn as Bellamy overrun the ball. That was a touch of class and the crowd went mental. The ole's come out....

    Everton are running down the clock here, and Mancini is about to taste his first defeat.

    Zabaleta is upended by Pienaar and City have a free kick in front of goal, about 25 yards out.

    Bellamy hits the wall, then Zabaleta blazes over. Let the inquest begin....

    That's that, and what a good display from Everton. They dominated City in all departments and ran out very comfortable winners. Mancini will wonder where City's spirit and fight disappeared off to while Davey Moyes looks delighted.
