1. Join us from 1330 GMT for one of football's feistiest fixtures as Everton host Liverpool in the first Merseyside derby of the season.

In the blue corner we have Luke O'Farrell, who believes <a href="http://soccernet.espn.go.com/blog/_/name/everton/id/166?cc=5739" target="_blank">Marouane Fellaini will be key for the Toffees </a>if he recovers from injury.

6. Everton are boosted by the return of Marouane Fellaini from injury, however, they will be without the suspended Steven Pienaar. Their only other change from the 1-1 draw with Queens Park Rangers is Steven Naismith, who comes in for Victor Anichebe.

7. Brad Jones keeps his place in goal for Liverpool as Pepe Reina fails to return from fitness in time. Glen Johnson has not recovered from the injury he picked up in the 1-0 win against Anzhi in midweek so Jose Enrique fills in. While Joe Allen, Suso and Raheem Sterling come in for Jonjo Shelvey, Stewart Downing and Oussama Assaidi.

8. Andre Marriner is the man in charge of today's game. He has been one of the Premier League's most lenient officials this season having showed nine yellows and no reds. That could change today given this fixture's history - 14 players have seen red in the last 23 Merseyside derbies.

9. Former Toffee Jack Rodwell was shown a red the last time these sides met at Goodison Park. Liverpool won that game 2-0, thanks to goals from Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll.

10. The teams step out at Goodison to a rapturous applause. The Everton fans are up this one I think.

    And we're off. Everton show their intent straight off as Baines plays a long ball towards Fellaini who knocks on a header to Jelavic but his cross is a little long.

    Liverppol with a chance there as they break from an Everton corner. Enrique storms forward but instead of playing the ball to the unmarked Sterling he delays and eventually the move comes to nothing.

    A rapid start to the game. Just what we've come to expect from a Merseyside derby.

    Liverpool threaten again as Enrique plays a dangerous ball into the box but Jagielka is there to snuff out the danger.

    Gerrard whips in a Liverpool corner which goes long but Sahin recovers the ball. However, his delivery into the box lacks any accuracy and goes out for a goal kick.

    Naismith and Coleman link up well down the right before Fellaini tries to play a deft ball into the box but Agger is there to clear.

    Down the other end Suarez does well to find some space before finding Suso but his delivery is dealt with by Howard.

    This is end to end stuff. Naismith tries to pick out Jelavic but just overhits it a little and Jones is there first to collect the ball.

    Both teams have shown their attacking intent already with some quick breaks. If it carries on like this there could be a few goals in this game today.

    Enrique has been getting forward well so far but he is early caught out as a ball is played in behind him to Naismith but again it is just a little long.

    What a run there from Mirallas as he glides past Allen and Wisdom before pulling a ball back across goal but Agger diverts it for the corner.

    The resultant corner is well punched clear by Jones. A very dangerous ball.

    Everton will hoping for more of that from Mirallas down the left as he comes up against the talented but inexperienced Andre Wisdom.

    Liverpool build an attack down the right but Suarez in an offside position brings the move to a halt.

    Neither Gerrard or Jagielka pull out of a tough 50-50 challenge there. Just what we like to see.

    Suarez tries to find the run of Sterling but a poor pass leaves the pacy winger with no chance of getting to the ball.

    Liverpool work the ball well before Enrique finds himself in space down the left to deliver a dangerous ball across the face of goal. Sterling goes down as he attempts to reach the cross but Suarez is there at the far post to drill the ball towards goal. Luckily for the away side it comes off Baines, leaving the helpless Howard with no chance.

    You have to say Liverpool probably deserve that at the minute. They have had a bit of sustained pressure up until that point with Gerrard and Allen keeping the ball by moving it around nicely. Enrique deserves credit for his attacking performance so far.

    What have Everton got in response now? They haven't been playing badly and will so certainly feel hard done by with the deflection off Baines for the goal.

    Suarez with a blistering shot. He drills it just wide of the post from 25 yards out. Howard looked well beaten. The Uruguayan could have had a hat-trick inside half an hour.

    A chance at the other end for Everton. Jelavic plays in Fellaini inside the box but the Belgian puts too much on his first touch and it runs off for a goal kick. If he sorted that touch he may have been able to find the back of the net with his next one.

    Mirallas has been in inspired form for Everton today. Nearly all their attacks are coming from him and down the left-hand side.

    And the half-time whistle goes. What an enthralling 45 minutes it was. Liverpool started the brighter and somehow found themselves 2-0 up. But that only brought out the best in Everton who came storming back into the game and eventually managed to draw proceedings level. They were in total ascendancy for the latter end to the half and may go into the changing rooms wishing they had taken the lead.

    Jelavic brings a decent save out of Jones. Baines gets to the rebound and sends it back across goal. The ball eventually comes out to Coleman on the edge of the box but he pulls his shot well wide.

    Shelvey has been looking to create since coming on. This time his pass just fails to pick out Sterling who was making an infield run.

    Liverpool pour forward again but Jagielka does brilliantly to tackle Gerrard to stop the danger.

    Sterling makes it look easy he as he turns and sprints past two Everton midfielders. However his pass to Suarez leaves a little less to be desired.

    Suarez does well to get past Jagielka down the right but Distin is there to block his cross-cum-shot.

    A similar start to the first half here with both teams having some early half chances but struggling to keep possession for extended periods.

     It's Baines who blocks for Everton this time. Suarez gets to the ball first ahead of Distin in the corner before he cuts in and fires at goal. But the left back is there with the block.

     Liverpool are really on top now. A quick free-kick leads to Sterling firing an effort at goal that goes just over.

     And Suarez thought he had won it there. But it's disallowed. Gerrard sends in the free-kick to Coates at the far post. The centre back heads it across goal to Suarez who converts.

     The Liverpool players' celebrations were cut short much to the relief of the Everton fans. Suarez looked onside there though. The away side will feel hard done by.

     A thrilling first half is followed by a slightly more subdued second. Chances for both sides to win but they lacked the cutting edge they showed in the first 45. Liverpool will feel like they should be walking away with all three points though after Suarez's injury-time goal was disallowed. A draw seems about right.
