Everton – Arsenal

1. Everton boss David Moyes gives 18-year-old James Vaughan his first start of the season, consigning James Beattie to the substitutes' bench. Alan Stubbs and Leon Osman returned to the side, with Tim Cahill now out for the season with injury and Joleon Lescott preferred at right-back ahead of Gary Naysmith.

2. Arsenal make two changes from the side that won at Aston Villa in midweek, leaving out Denilson and Johan Djourou. Fit-again Tomas Rosicky returns with Kolo Toure, who had completed his three-match suspension.

   Everton kick off.

   The Toffees make the early running, but Osman is tackled down the left.

   A flat cross from Johnson is cut out by Gallas.

   Johnson races onto a Carsley long ball, but his cross is cut out. Fernandes can do nothing with the deflection.

   Howard punts the ball upfield, but that's easy for Gallas.

   Aliadiere disposessed on the half-way line.

   Johnson lobs the ball onto the top of the Arsenal net from some forty yards out. I don't think Lehmann would have been too worried about that one.

    Arsenal bring it forward through Llungberg, and win a throw-in out on the Everton left.

    Everton are hassling and harrying the Gunners here. They look much the more determined of the two sides.

    Diaby is tackled as he looks to break into the Everton box.

    A worrying moment for Arsenal there: Gilberto hooked the ball away from Johnson in the Arsenal box, but in so doing almost lifted it into his own net. Fortunately for him Lehmann reached the ball quicker than Johnson, and no harm was done.

    This is rather a dull contest. The best player on the pitch, Fabregas, is having an off-day which isn't helping.

    Howard makes a bit of a mess of a shot from Aliadiere - it looked a straight-forward stop, but he parried it into the air and just over the bar. Arsenal corner.

    Arsenal have lost this at the death! Hilarious in a way. Just before that decisive corner, Arsene Wenger tripped over on the slidy, snow-infused turf. And then his team conceded. He must be a little miffed; a wet arse and a last-minute defeat.
