Everton – Arsenal

1. Right, the live blog is done and its time for some gamecast action. ESPN's first ever televised Premier League game in the UK is Everton v Arsenal, and its all live with me, Chris Murphy.

2. Everton: Howard, Hibbert, Yobo, Lescott, Baines, Osman, Neville, Cahill, Pienaar, Fellaini and Jo. Subs: Nash, Saha, Vaughan, Gosling, Rodwell, Duffy, Baxter.

3. Arsenal: Almunia, Sagna, Gallas, Vermaelen, Clichy, Fabregas, Song, Denilson, Bendtner, van Persie and Arshavin. Subs: Mannone, Eduardo, Ramsey, Silvestre, Eboue, Gibbs and Merida.

4. Right, the teams are out and the noise rises a notch. Kick off is moments away.

5. Before the game, 60 seconds of applause for Sir Bobby Robson. A legend.

   We begin...

   Lescott gets a round of boos on his first touch. Predictable.

   Now a round of "One Joleon Lescot..." Make yer mind up Toffees fans!

   Fellaini is challenged by Song. Good to see the Belgian is again sporting the Premier League's best hairdo. Affro-a-go-go.

10. 4'

    Pienaar does very well to pinch a ball Song was challenging for. He was excellent last season.

11. 5'

    Another superb challenge this time from Neville as Van Persie looked to feed Bendtner in the area.

12. 6'

    Fellaini is flagged offside as he looks to latch on to a Jo flick.

13. 7'

    Denilson misplaces a pass for RVP when he had plenty of time to make sure of it. Arsenal just starting to warm up here...

14. 8'

    Pienaar is flagged as Cahill launched a ball over the top. The replay shows he was probably level...

15. 9'

    Bendtner has a crack from distance but it flies high and wide.

16. 10'

    Superb ball from Fabregas looking for Denilson but Lescott turns it back to Howard, then Cahill bundles into Song and gives away a free kick.

    Sagna charges down the right but Lescott is across again, then Van Persie hits one on the turn and the ball deflects wide off Yobo.

    Now Clichy swings in a cross and the ball trickles into Howard's arms via a combo of RVP and Yobo.

19. 14'

    Fabregas rubs his bonce after a challenge with Fellaini. Surely all that hair should cushion the blow?

20. 16'

    Osman swings in a cross as the sun comes out at Goodison, then Neville puts in a decent tackle on Arshavin, who has been quiet so far, by his standards.

21. 17'

    Ref Mark Halsey halts play as Nweville and Fabregas slide in together. He gives the Gunners an advantage but then pulls it back for their free kick.

22. 18'

    Van Persie curls it in from 40 yards but Howard takes it comfortably in front of his goal. Now Jo is flagged offside and RVP can't connect with a Song through ball.

23. 19'

    Bendtner tries to look tricky on the flank against Baines but succeeds in offering the ball to Everton's full back. Caught with his pants down there Bendtner. Ahem.

    Cahill goes down clutching his foot after a high challenge with Gallas. The sort of high challenge Cahill is used to putting in himself by the way..

    Now Cahill toes the ball in front of Vermaelen inside the area but it runs through to Almunia.

    Lescott gets lucky after losing the ball inside the area. He recovers just in time as Arshavin lurked.

    Shola Ameobi has put Newcastle ahead against Reading in the Championship.

    ESPNsoccernet.com has just had its first plug on the new UK channel. A cheer goes up in the Hammersmith bunker...

    GOAL! Denilson! Screamer!

    What a strike! Fabregas knocks it sideways to Denilson who peppers it into the top corner from 25 yards. An absolute beauty!

    Well, that was sheer quality. Bendtner won the ball well in the build-up by the way and now he is fouled by Neville. The ref gives him a long talking to. Nev, not Bendtner.

    Van Persie whacks the free kick goalwards from 40 yards and it dribbles apologetically wide.

    New boy Vermaelen looks up for it as he gets piled right into Jo. That bodes well for his Premier League future. Gunners fully on top now.

    Van Persie wins a corner off Yobo.

    Howard claims before Arsenal win it back, then Fabregas launches a stunning crossfield pass for Arshavin. The little man is offside though.

    Osman does well to win a ball in the air with Clichy, then he oh so nearly gets to it ahead of Vermaelen inside the box. Corner.

    Off the line! Fellaini's flick on from Osman's corner is hacked off the line by Denilson. He's scored at one end and now saved one at his own.

    Jo intercepts a stray Sagna pass in the final third but can't do anything with it as Gallas steps across.

    GOAL! Vermaelen scores for Arsenal!

    Van Persie curls in a peach and Vermaelen peels off Yobo before planting a superb header back across Howard and into the far corner. What a debut!

    Well, not 40 minutes gone of ESPN's first UK game and its almost over. A long way back for Everton from here.

    Everton hit back with a cross from Baines that eludes everyone in the mixer. Jo and Fellaini watched it whizzed past.

    GOAL! Arsenal have scored again! Gallas!

    Fabregas swings in the ball this time and Gallas is unmarked. He glances into the onion bag. Catastrophe for the Toffees.

    Dreamland for Arsene Wenger. His side have scored one absolute gem and been gifted two more.

    "One Arsene Wenger," sing the Arsenal fans. The same ones who were calling for his head last season perhaps?

    Tony Hibbert has just saved a certain fourth. Denilson marauds forwards, skips the ball round Howard but can't shoot on goal due to the presence of the right-back, who blocks his effort.

    Sagan swings in a cross after Bendtner twisted in the area but Fabregas' header is wide of the target. Two minutes added.

    That's half time. Boos ring out from the Gladys Street end after a woeful 45 minutes from Everton. Arsenal are cruising on Merseyside. Join us again in 15 minutes...

    Everton have surely had the half-time rocket of their lives and have started with much more purpose.

    GOAL! Fabregas!

    What a break from Arsenal! A break from an Everton and another pearler as Van Persie streaks down the wing, squares it Fabregas to tuck home under Howard. What a statement of intent from Arsenal.

    That's proved too much for Everton's fans and some of them have started the long journey home. They are being humiliated on theit own turf and we've still got 40 minutes to play. Astonishing.

    Arsenal go forward again and Clichy thumps in an effort that Hibbert blocks.

    Denilson is down aftwe a clash with Cahill.

    Newcastle are 2-0 up against Reading by the way, Ameobi has two goals now.

    Baines launches a free kick into the area but Alumnia is out to claim ahead of Cahill.

    Hibbert wins a corner for Everton but again Almunia bags it.

    Arshavin finds Fabregas in the area and Fellaini concedes a corner. Effortless grace from the away side.

    Saha is coming on for Everton. Why he wasn't on at half time I don't know.

    Rodwell and Gosling are on too, Hibbert and Jo come off. Three changes then. Moyes not happy at all.

    Ameobi has completed his hat-trick from the spot as Newcastle go 3-0 up against Reading.

    Pienaar whacks in a free kick and Almunia punches clear, then Rodwell lashes one over the bar from 20 yards out.

    Bendtner comes off and Eboue comes on.

    The game is winding down at Goodison as Arsenal conserve their energy and Everton realise it is all about damage limitation.

    Arshavin turns in a cross and Denilson is ready to tap home before yobo hacks clear.

    This is exhibition stuff now as Arsenal stroke it around with panache. Don't bet against a 5th goal.

    GOAL! Fabregas again!

    Fabregas heads towards the edge of the area from his own half and thumps one into the bottom corner. A superb goal.

    Fabregas runs to the bench after he scores and pulls out an Arsenal shirt with Jarque on the back in reference to his pal from Espanyol who recently died of a heart attack.

    "We are top of the league," chant the Arsenal fans, as the home section rapidly empties...

    Fabregas and Van Persie go off and Ramsey and Eduardo come on.

    Arshavin cuts in from the right and launches one goalwards. It got a deflection and will be an Arsenal corner.

    Pienaar gets a rare round of applause from the home end as he brings the ball out of his penalty area and streaks down the wing. Sagna hauls him down.

    Saha, and his ridiculous blond hair, have a go at goal but strikes it wide.

    Arsenal are in total control here as Eduardo launches a left foot shot narrowly wide. He's a plyer that lad.

    Saha twists and turns inside the area with Vermaelen for company but eventually hits a shot wide of the near post.

    Well, Newcastle have won comfortably at home for only the second time since November last year. No sign of Joe Kinnear anywhere either, a fact that will delight all Geordies.

    This is like an extension of Arsenal's pre-season programme. People running at half pace, short passes a smile or joke here and there.

    Eduardo goes down but springs back up. Good to see.

    Aaron Ramsey goes forward and smashes one over the bar.

    There are empty seats everywhere at Goodison Park. Safe to say this is not the start Everton fans were hoping for. Bottom of the league by a distance.

    GOAL! Eduardo bags one!

    Arshavin twists inside the area, his shot is deflected and hits the post but Eduardo is there to pot the rebound from four yards out.

    Everton 0-6 Arsenal. Do not adjust your screen, do not rub your eyes in disbelief, the score REALLY is 6-0.

    Phil Neville prevents Arshavin making it seven with a header inside the box. That would have been the final insult, an Arshavin header.

    "Boring, boring Arsenal," sing the Gunners' fans...

    GOAL! Saha! The comeback is on!

    Fellaini slips in a ball into the area for Pienaar but his shot is saved by Howard, Louis Saha is on hand to slot into an empty net though.

    Eduardo nearly makes in 1-7! He tries to lob Howard but the keeper saves. Arshavin fluffs the follow up.

    Full time and what a start for Arsenal! They looked slick from the off but then exploded, scoring three goals in 11 minutes. Three more followed in the second period. David Moyes will be having nightmares about this performance all week.

    What a great start for ESPN too, a belter of a game complete with seven goals. Let's hope that is repeated another 45 times this season eh? Thanks for your company, until next time.
