    So close! Gronkjaer cuts in from the left and rattles the crossbar with a dipping 25-yarder. An escape for the visitors

    Huth thumps a long ball to no-one in particular - hardly the best way to make use of a brand new playing surface at the Bridge

    Johnson looks comfortable in midfield so far. The ball breaks to Lampard following the youngster's run, but his left-footer is off target

    Gronkjaer hurtles into the box and goes down under Fish's challenge. Penalty? No, says the ref and Gronkjaer is booked for diving!

    Nicolas isn't shy of shooting, but his second effort of the afternoon is high and wide. Chelsea well on top

    Charlton at last manage to get in Chelsea's half, but Johansson is immediately pulled up for a foul

    Johansson is tackled from behind by Hreidarsson on the edge of the box, and this time the decision goes Chelsea's way. Free-kick, and Huth is sizing it up

    Huth insists on taking it, and it's not a bad effort. Plenty of power, but not enough direction

    More purposeful by Charlton as Di Canio decides to get involved, but there's no guile in his pass and Gallas can clear

    Jensen spreads a lovely pass wide to Johansson on the left and his cross deflects behind for a corner

    Jensen bends in a dangerous corner, but Huth's head intercepts with Hreidarsson poised behind him

    Hreidarsson pings a 50-yard pass right on to Di Canio's toe, but the Italian can't pick out a Charlton shirt with his centre

    Holland is more prominent in midfield now, and his interception finds Kishishev, whose deep centre is scrambled away

    Gronkjaer looks Chelsea's most lively outlet, and it takes a Kishishev block to stop his run

    Another free-kick, closer to goal, is squandered by Hasselbaink, who bends it over everybody's heads

    Charlton work a decent move down the Chelsea right, but when Di Canio gets a shooting chance his effort is wild

    Huth and Kishishev both end up sprawled on the turf after a crunching 50-50, but both are OK

    Jensen and Di Canio get in each other's way, and a rare Charlton foray into Chelsea territory goes to waste

    Gronkjaer sends in a wicked cross from the dead-ball line. Hasselbaink chests down, but shins his shot into the second tier

    Half-time. Chelsea totally dominant without creating too many clear-cut chances. But they have the lead, and Charlton are offering precious little threat

    No flow to the game at the moment, and ref Bennett's constant whistling is hardly helping. This time Kishishev is punished for a shove

    Gronkjaer injects a bit of life into things with another burst, but his centre is a yard too far ahead of Mutu

    Gallas has the measure of Di Canio at the moment, and the Italian can't make anything of Holland's pass

    An hour gone, and there's not much to suggest Charlton can threaten an equaliser. But Chelsea aren't offering much either

    Konchesky gets his first decent chance to swing a cross in from the left, but it's too long for Di Canio

    Young dithers for an age on the edge of his own box, and he's relieved to see Hasselbaink's effort on goal blocked by Fish

    Johnson knocks a Gronkjaer cross back for Hasselbaink. His swivel is good, his shot weak and Kiely gathers

    Konchesky's touch lets him down and he responds by scything down Johnson. The ref keeps his book in his pocket, though

    Young bursts down the right and Di Canio attempts a reverse pass as the ball breaks for him. Huth is in the way and Chelsea clear

    A bit more vim about the game now as Charlton go in search of an equaliser. There'll be gaps which Chelsea might exploit on the break

    Bridge swings over a teasing cross, and Kiely holds on well under Hasselbaink's sturdy shoulder-barge

    Mutu and Hasselbaink exchange passes but Young puts the Romanian off as he's about to let fly

    Sullivan looks a bit panicky as Johansson puts his footwork to the test, and the keeper slices his clearance

    Good bit of pressure from the visitors, and Huth is penalised for a push 30 yards from goal. Konchesky looks like he fancies this

    It is Konchesky, but his effort is way off radar and Sullivan isn't tested

    Off goes the goalscorer Hasselbaink, and Icelander Eidur Gudjohnsen will play the final 15 minutes

    Di Canio and Holland work an opening. Huth intervenes but puts his clearance barely a foot wide of his own post. Charlton's best effort!

    Chelsea's defending has become a bit nervy., and Johnson concedes a free-kick close to the left-hand corner with a late one on Johansson

    Sullivan is floundering as Jensen's dipping cross goes over his head. But it shaves the wrong side of the upright and Chelsea breathe again

    Down the other end, and Gudjohnsen picks out Mutu who leaves Kiely on his backside only to slice horribly wide

    Another chance for Mutu, who gets a bit more meat behind his shot. Fish gets himself in the way at the expense of a corner

    Charlton bring it clear from Mutu's kick, and as the striker attempts to atone he tugs back Johansson and becomes the second man in the book

    Gudjohnsen launches Chelsea forward, and when Fish fails to clear Johnson's cross Mutu smashes a left-footed drive against the angle of post and bar

    Charlton need a goal, but Chelsea look the more likely scorers still

    Mutu is making a real nuisance of himself, and he robs Young before testing Kiely with a low drive

    What does Mutu have to do to score? Gudjohnsen sprints clear on the right and puts it on a plate for his partner five yards out. But Kiely gets across to deny Mutu a first home goal in five months with a brilliant stop

    Jensen's searching ball seeks out Bartlett and Sullivan is slow to come off his line. The referee comes to his rescue though, blowing for high feet from Bartlett

    Kishishev's slip allows Gronkjaer to sprint away. The ball is worked to Gudjohnsen, but Fish gets in the way again

    Into the two minutes of injury time, and Mutu has another bang at goal. It's a couple of yards wide this time

    Full-time. A fairly uninspiring game, but Chelsea won't much care about that. Hasselbaink's penalty has won it for them, and in the end it could have been a bigger margin. Charlton didn't manage to test Chelsea stand-in Neil Sullivan even once. It's difficult to get away from it - Scott Parker will be missed
