Arsenal – Everton

1. Join us live at 16.05 GMT as Arsenal look to reclaim top spot in the Premiership.

2. Everton's Wayne Rooney burts on to the scene with a wonder goal against Arsenal, to end their unbeaten run, in this fixture at Goodison Park and he starts today.

3. Campbell and Vieira both passed late fitness tests and will be a welcome boost for Arsenal as they look to bounce back from their European exit.

4. Everton beat the Gunners 2-1 last time the two teams met and they (plus Newcastle and Manchester United fans) will be hoping they can do the double over the champions.

   Arsenal get the game underway in their familiar red and white kit. Everton wear all blue.

6. 1'

   Everton win an early throw deep in Arsenal's half. Stubbs drifts the ball into the area but Campbell is caught offside.

7. 2'

   Rooney hassles Cygan into an error and the French defender is forced to give away a freekick on the edge of the box......

   ...Rooney blasts it straight into the wall. Arsenal break quickly but Stubbs is their to make the tackle in the rightback slot.

   Vieira spins past Gravesen and threads a ball through for Pires. Watson steps out of defence to get a foot in and make the tackle.

    Yobo launches a long throw into the area but the Gilberto covers and the ball trickles through to Taylor for his first touch.

11. 6'

    Vieira finds Henry. The striker is forced back towards his own goal as Everton fly in with tackle after tackle.

    Pires chips a ball down the line for Ljungberg to chase. Patient build up finds Henry on the right and the striker wins a corner off Li Tie.

    Henry takes the corner himself. Cygan charges towards the penalty spot, and heads the ball down and past Wright for the opening goal. GOAL!!!!!!

    1-0 to the Gunners and that will be a big blow for Everton after a bright start.

    Rooney flicks the ball forward for Campbell. But the striker is clattered by Gilberto after the ball has gone and Everton get a freekick.

    Pembridge knicks the ball off Henry and the striker hauls down Gravesen as he threatens to break.

17. 12'

    Bergkamp sees a challenge coming from Stubbs, the Dutchman jumps up and stamps down on Stubb's calf. The Everton defender needs treatment and Bergkmap escapes without a caution.

    Stubbs is back on his feet and the Gunners give the ball back to the Everton keeper.

    Lauren and Ljunberg work the ball out of defence with some one touch football and Vieira finds Bergkamp.....

    ...The striker evades Stubbs lunging challenge with a spin and step-over and races towards the box. His shot is weak but Wright spills the ball....

    ....Henry races in with a shot but Wright has recovered enough to stick out an arm and deflect the ball over the bar.

    Campbell breaks for Everton and finds Unsworth on the left. The defender sets himself for the cross but slices it into the crowd.

    Everton are struggling to build a meaningful attack. The ball won't stick upfront.

    Gilberto finds Henry on the edge of the area. The Frenchman looks to backheel the ball inot Bergkamp's path but Weir reads the situation well.

    Ljungberg breaks quickly but his ball for Bergkamp forces him wide right. The striker looks up and finds Lauren, who skirts the edge of the area and finds space for a shot.....

    ...It's a weak one and trickles through to Wright at his near post.

    Henry and Van Bronckhorst stans over a freekick, 25-yards out. Henry hits hit low and straight at Wright.

    Everton still can't seem to move forward and Gravesen is forced to pass back to Weir, who hoofs an aimless longball upfield.

    Campbell gets clattered on the right flank and the Toffees have the chance to deliver a decent ball into the box....

    ........they don't.

    Bergkmap fires the ball into Henry, who flicks the ball up with the outside of his right foot and shoots inches wide of the post.

    Li Tie gives Unsworth a chance to cross from the left. The defender does better this time but there are no Blue shirts in the box and Cygan heads clear unchallenged.

    Rooney waits to control the ball on his chest but Cygan wraps a long leg around the 17-year-old to hook the ball clear.

    Campbell and Pembridge tackle each other as Everton sweep forward and the move breaks down. Gravesen finds space on the edge of the box but his shot sails over the bar.

    Gravesen fouls Vieira in the centre circle.

    Rooney holds off Pires then tussles with Van Bronckhorst on the touchline. The Arsenal duo finally manage to stab the ball clear.

    Gravesen takes a deep corner but Cygan has to concede another under pressure from Stubbs. This time the delivery is better but Taylor rushes off his line to claim the ball.

    Everton's best bet for goal is probably from a set piece and they have wasted a number of them.

    Li Tie hacks down Ljungberg as the Swede sprints down the line. The Chinaman is told to calm down by the ref but escapes a yellow card.

    Undaunted Li Tie makes a double tackle to stifle a patient Arsenal attack. Pembridge pumps a useless longball into the corner.

    Campbell gives chase anyway as Taylor looks to guide it out of play. Campbell slips and brings down Taylor and the duo collapse in a heap....it's all laughs and smiles however.

    Rooney has a chance to stretch his legs as he latches onto a Gravesen ball down the line. He tricks his way past Gilberto and Cygan and whips a cross to the far post.....

    ....Pembridge stretches but can't make contact and the ball goes out for a goalkick.

    Rooney contests a low cross with Sol Campbell and forces a corner. Pembridge whips the ball in from the left and Lauren flashes a defensive header across the face of goal and out for another corner.

    Gravesen takes this one nd hits the cross straight out of play. What a waste....again.

    Everton are showing a bit of fight and the Gunners have been un able to push on after their early goal.

    Yobo pushes out of the Everton defence and Gallops down the wing. He delivers a high cross and Cygan out jumps Rooney to head clear.

    Henry collects a half clearence and spots Ljungberg racing towards the goalline. Henry puts too much weight on the pass and the ball runs out of play.

    Li Tie wins a freekick on the touchline. Pembridge stands over the ball and has a chance to deliver a dangerous ball into the box as half-time approaches....

    ...he decides to go for goal and curls an audacious shot just past the back post as Taylor hurriedly back pedals. Shades of Ronaldinho.

    That's it! The ref blows for half-time.

52. Everton made a bright start but Arsenal bossed most of the first-half and lead 1-0 at the break.

53. However, Everton have done enough to give their fans hope and have stopped the Gunners adding to their tally.

    Everton get the second-half underway without any changes.

    Henry scampers down the touchline and flicks the ball past Watson to continue his run. Weir is covering and clears.

    Bergkamp crosses for Pires at the back post. Yobo sees the danger and races back to toepoke the ball away from the Frenchman.

    Li Tie spins in midfield and gets crocked by Vieira. The Everton player needs some attention and the magic spray comes out of the physio's bag.

    Gravesen is putting himself about in the midfield. He clatters Pires and then ruffles Henry's feathers.

    Pires collects Ljungbergs cross on the edge of the box. He scuttles left and right to find space for the shot and then scuffs it wide of the post.

    It's Bergkamp's turn to face Gravesen. The Dutchman dances past the Dane but his cross is poor and Everton break....

    ....Rooney sprints past Lauren. The defnder lunges and brings down the striker. Yellow card.

    Rooney is looking lively this half and gets to the goalline. The youngster cuts the ball back as Campbell races into the box.....

    ...The former Arsenal striker gets his toe to the ball but can only direct it into the side netting. Good football from Everton.

    Vieira scoops the ball into the box but he has no support and Weir has a chance to pick a pass with his clearence.

    Campbell picks the ball up in the centre circle and spots Rooney sprinting forward. The youngster gets possession and runs at Cygan....

    ...Cygan keeps backing off. Rooney gets to the edge of the box and fires a low shot through the defenders legs, past a sprawling Taylor and into the far corner of the net. GOAL!!!!

    1-1 at Highbury and Everton have renewed belief as Rooney fires another shot into the side netting.

    Li Tie cuts out a poor pass from Lauren and then runs at the defender. The duo get into a tussle and the Gunner wins a freekick.

    Everton are looking threatening now and have begun to play in Arsenal's half. former Everton striker Jeffers is warming up for Arsenal.

    Li Tie stretches to tackle Vieira and brings the Frenchman down. Thats one bad tackle too many for the ref and Li Tie gets booked.

    Taylor hoofs the ball upfield and Vieira heads the ball on. Bergkamp challenges Unsworth in the box and seems to haul the defender to the floor.....

    ...The ref doesn't agree and the ball squirms loose in the box. Vieira races in from the right and blasts a low shot past Wright and inot the roof of the net. GOAL!!!!!!

    Everton are furious that they didn't get a freekick but the goal stands. 2-1 to the Gunners.

    Henry holds off Weir and wins a freekick. Ironically he applauds the ref for the decision.

    Arsenal make substitution. Pires is replaced by Parlour.

    Parlour gets an early touch but his attempted cross is blocked by Weir.

    Yobo hoofs a longball up for Campbell. Cygan slips but the ball runs through to Taylor in the Arsenal goal.

    Bergkamp receives the ball, spins his defender and slips the ball through to Henry. The pass is slightly too heavy and Wright rushes off his line to hoof the ball clear.

    The Gunners slow the pace of the game and pass the ball around the back four. Then burst forward as Henry takes atumble under the challeneg of Weir, the last defender, but no foul says the ref.

    Lauren shields the ball as it runs out for a corner. Rooney is having none of it but in his eagerness to win the ball he sends Lauren sprawling.

    Everton mkae a chnge. Li Tie, who has been booked, is replaced by Gemmill.

    Ljunberg chips a ball over the top and sends Henry racing inot the corner. The striker has no support and plays the ball backwards. Arsenal settle for possession.

    Ljungberg looks to skin Yobo but the defender recovers to make an important tackle on the touchline.

    Wright pumps a high ball towards Campbell. Cygan wins the header. If Everton want to employ those tactics maybe Ferguson should be on the pitch.

    Gemmil plays a poor pass to Yobo. The defender can't keep the ball in play and Arsenal win a corner deep in the Toffee's half.

    Everton make another change and Ferguson comes on the replace Watson.

    Yobo Launches a long throw inot the box for Ferguson. The big striker flicks it on and Sol Campbell out jumps Rooney to head clear.

    Arsenal can't find a way through the Everton defence and Gilberto decides to take on a shot from about eight miles out......he doesn't score.

    Campbell battles with sol Campbell on the edge of the box. Cygan joins in and bundles the striker off the ball. No foul says the ref and Arsenal break.

    Ljungberg races down the left flank. He makes space for the cross but none of his teammates have managed to catch up with the play.

    Henry takes possession in the box and waits for support. Ljungberg arrives at pace and flicks the ball over the defence and collects his own pass with only Wright to beat....

    ...the keeper comes of his line to narrow a tight angle and Ljungberg blasts his shot over the bar.

    Arsenal make another change. Bergkamp goes off and Toure takes his place.

    Everton's attacking threat has diminished and it's Arsenal asking all the questions now.

    Rooney takes a poor touch which allows Vieira and Gilberto to rush in and hack the ball away for the Gunners.

    Yobo hoofs a long-ball into the box. Ferguson gets the flick on and Campbell chests the ball back into the striker's path.....

    ...Ferguson shoots as he falls to ground and Cygan blocks the ball clear.

98. 89'

    Parlour brings the ball out for Arsenal and heads directly for the corner to run down the clock.

99. 90'

    Gravesen hoists the ball towards Ferguson. This time the big striker is penalised and the Arsenal defence breathe again.

100. 90'

     Gravesen gets caught in possession as Everton look to hit another long-ball towards Ferguson and his error proves costly as the ref blows for full-time.

101. Everton gave it a good go at Highbury but Arsenal came out 2-1 winners and move two points clear of Manchester United at the top of the Premiership.

102. Arsenal reclaim top spot and Everton drop below city rivals Liverpool, who beat Leeds United 3-1 at Anfield earlier today.
