West Ham United – Manchester United

1. Greetings one and all. Chris Murphy here, with live commentary on Manchester United against West Ham from Upton Park. Can the Red Devils reclaim top spot? Well, they only need a point so, yes would be my answer.

2. The teams, starting with West Ham: Green, Neill, Collins, Upson, Ilunga, Behrami, Parker, Noble, Collison, Cole and Di Michele. Subs from: Lastuvka, Nsereko, Boa Morte, Kovac, Spector, Tristan amd Sears.

3. Man Utd: Van der Sar, Rafael Da Silva, Ferdinand, Vidic, O'Shea, Ronaldo, Scholes, Carrick, Giggs, Tevez and Berbatov. Subs from: Foster, Park, Nani, Welbeck, Fabio Da Silva, Fletcher and Eckersley.

4. 1'

   We're off...

5. 2'

Oop, Scholesy in awful tackle alert! My, that was a lunge. Lucky Di Michele managed to skip away with the ball...

6. 3'

Rafael is penalised for handball as he looked to saunter into the box..

7. 4'

Scholes dinks a lovely ball wide for Giggs but his first time volley is shanked into the crowd. And yes, before you ask, it was his right foot.

8. 5'

Superb tackle on Berbatov from Scott Parker. The Bulgarian had swapped passes with Ronaldo but was ambling in his laid back way and got robbed.

9. 7'

Ronaldo skips down the left, leaving Lucas Neill trailing in his wake. Collins blocks his cross and Man Utd have a corner.

10. 8'

Vidic meets the corner but the ball loops harmlessly out.

11. 9'

Berba pokes a delightful ball down the right channel for Giggs but Upson's ungainly sliding tackle eventually does the business.

12. 10'

Parker lobs the ball into Van der Sar's arms from 40 yards. No idea what was cracking off there.

13. 11'

West Ham win their first corner after Vidic's header on Parker's cross flies behind.

14. 12'

Ooh, Lucas Neill finds some space in the box and hits a shot but VDS is equal to it.

15. 13'

Cole breezes past Rio Ferdinand after Parker's ball and tries an ambitious lob which VDS plucks from the air. Encouraging signs for the Hammers though.

16. 14'

Rio hacks clear after another ball found its way into Man Utd's box.

17. 16'

Lucas Neill clips Ronaldo. No more, no less. A word from Phil Dowd suffices.

18. 16'

Berba is casual in the extreme and lazily hits a ball straight to Behrami. Ronaldo is not happy with that contribution. Rightly so.

19. 18'

Tevez flicks to Berbatov who smacks a volley from 25 yards. Collins, though, gets his head in the way and doesn't even flinch.

20. 19'

Man Utd starting to crank up the pressure after that little flurry from the home side.

21. 20'

Parker is a bit too eager and piles into Berba from the behind. Ronaldo then wins a corner off Upson.

22. 21'

The ball is in the net but its been chalked off. Scholes flung in a shot, and though it deflected off Parker and into the path of Berbatov, he was two yards offside.

23. 22'

Some nice one touch stuff opens up half a chance for Vidic but Collins blocks his shot well. West Ham struggling to retain possession when they get the ball.

24. 24'

Man Utd are sitting very deep when West Ham do get the ball. Berbatov is only about 40 yards from his own goal.

25. 25'

A lovely flick from Tevez releases Berbatov, who feeds Ronaldo, who looks for an ambitious pass back to Tevez. Green hacks his clearance off Tevez and away.

26. 26'

Chance for West Ham! Collison gets into the box and is about to pull the trigger until Rio steps in, then he lays off to Cole who can't spin onto his right foot and get a shot off.

27. 27'

Giggs corner, Ronaldo header, just wide. Actually, scrap that, well wide.

28. 28'

Berbatov and Tevez work a shooting chance for Scholes, but his effort is deflected wide. Corner, which amounts to nowt.

29. 30'

Foul given for Ilunga's challenge on Rafael. Free kick wide right.

30. 31'

Giggs squared it, Scholes hit it and Ronaldo deflected it on target. Good save Green. Corner.

31. 32'

Berbatov shows what a pony he is by bottling a 50/50 with Parker. The Hammers' midfielder was committed, gave it the full gun and won the ball. Berba dangled a leg out, half-jumped and is now limping. Serves him right. Get. Stuck. In.

32. 33'

Ronaldo appeals for handball as he tries to dink in a cross. Doubtful.

33. 34'

Manchester United have now beaten the British record in their marathon 'not conceding goals' effort, we are reliably informed.

34. 36'

West Ham can't make it stick up top at present. Carlton Cole isn't having the best of times trying to hold it up faced with Vidic and Ferdinand.

35. 38'

Ronaldo tries another left footed cross but, again, its poor. He and Giggas should swap wings in my humble opinion.

36. 40'

Ronaldo is muscled off the ball by Lucas Neill and just sits on the floor with his arms outstretched. Poor.

37. 41'

Vidic brings Parker's energetic burst to an end, rather emphatically.

38. 42'

Parker keeps beavering away though and wins a corner.

39. 43'

VDS gets a cheap free kick, though Cole did handle the ball to be fair.

40. 44'

    Jose Mourinho's in. Again.

41. 45'

A delicate move from West Ham as Di Michele flicks in for Cole. He things the ball then tries a volley but Vidic gets a partial block on it.

42. 45'

There's half time. A lively half, devoid of any hardcore goal pie action. Stay tuned to see if more is on show in half two.

43. 46'

    We're off again..

44. 47'

Early ball up front for Cole, who is tackled. But Behrami whacks in a shot that flicked off Di Michele and behind. Phil Dowd says corner though. for some reason.

45. 48'

Decent effort from Lucas Neill! He bombed forward, then picked up the scraps as the ball broke loose. Good curling shot, smart save from VDS.

46. 49'

Up the other end and the visitors have a corner.

47. 51'

There's Fergie, chewing furiously on gum as usual.

48. 52'

Ronaldo slips Giggs in inside the area, his back heel is poor and Upson can clear ahead of Tevez.

49. 54'

We're getting closer to goal here folks, West Ham are putting a few more numbers forward and Man Utd look a little more menacing than in the first period.

50. 55'

Free kick to Man United, out tot he right but Tevez's header lacks power, direction, and just about everything really.

51. 57'

Ronaldo runs into traffic and the crowd cheer loudly as Behrami pinches the ball. The move develops with Collison, who lays off to Parker but his hot is well wide.

52. 58'

Lucas Neill gets a card for blocking Ronaldo off. He had been warned.

53. 59'

A chorus of boos rain down as Vidic hauls Cole down but escapes a booking. He had a fistful of Cole's shirt! Still, free kick West Ham, inside right channel.

54. 61'

Collins concedes an unnecessary corner. Will Man Utd profit from it?

55. 62'

    GIGGS! Goal!

56. 62'

Splendid that, just splendid. Scholes sprays the ball wide for Giggs, he cuts inside two then rifles a low shot into the far corner.

57. 64'

Corner for West Ham as they look for an instant riposte.

58. 65'

Good work from Vidic to beat Collins in the air. Carrick completes the clearance.

59. 66'

Well, Giggsy's still got it eh? In truth, he'd done little until that point but he rolled back the years with a few shimmies and a precise finish. Cracking.

60. 67'

Cole does well to fashion a shooting opportunity, but slices his effort well wide.

61. 68'

Its snowing at Upton Park, or sleeting. I can't tell which from the tele. That'll be music to regular soccernet reader Sonny Huckle, who is currently basking in the Jamaican sunshine. Alright for some eh?

62. 69'

Parker slides Noble in and he fizzes it back for Cole but Ferdinand is on hand to divert it behind for a corner.

63. 70'

A sweeping Man Utd move. Giggs to Berba, to Ronaldo and a deflected shot wide.

64. 72'

Nearly but not quite for Man Utd as they broke clear thanks to a wonderful ball from Carrick. Tevez fed Ronaldo, he looked for Giggs but his ball was a bit shy on pace.

65. 74'

A tale of two shots there. Cole's blocked, Neill's woeful.

66. 75'

West Ham change: Mark Noble off and Savio on.

67. 76'

He's had a big build up this lad, so let's see what he's got in 13 minutes against the current Champions.

68. 78'

Giggs is now putting in a challenge on Ilunga down the left. Top work.

69. 79'

What have West Ham got left in the tank then? They've gone a bit flat since the goal. Understandably.

70. 80'

Referee Dowd delivers a mini lecture to Ronaldo, who is still griping about summat or other.

71. 82'

Berbatov does well to skip down the right but his cross is knocked onto Tevez by Collins and its a goal kick.

72. 83'

Savio looks bright, with a few stepovers, then hits a terrible ball right to Carrick.

73. 84'

There's very little width in West Ham's play. If the full backs don't get forward it all becomes very narrow.

74. 85'

Man Utd are striing padd after pass together at the minute. Eventually Tevez gets into the box and clips an effort wide of the far post.

75. 86'

Now Tevez comes off to warm applause from all corners of the ground. Ji-Sung Park is on.

76. 87'

Behrami comes off and Diego Tristan is on for the Hammers.

77. 88'

Ronaldo goes down and throws his arms up wanting a pen. The replay shows Neill did faintly touch the winger, but he made far too much of it.

78. 89'

Free kick to Man Utd and Ronaldo's going to belt one from 30 yards.

79. 90'

The wall does its job, from a distance that looked suspiciously less than ten yards.

80. 91'

    Three added minutes..

81. 92'

Parker wide for Savio who produces a devilish cross. Vidic clears. Last chance saloon for Wham.

82. 93'

Collison's shot is wide of the target and that should be that.

83. 93'

Twelve Premier League clean sheets in a row for Manchester United and they go back to the top of the table after a workmanlike performance, enlightened by a Ryan Giggs special. Thanks for your company. Until bext time...
