Tottenham Hotspur – Manchester United

1. Aaron Lennon starts and Dimitar Berbatov is fit for Tottenham against Manchester United at White Hart Lane with the visitors recalling Henrik Larsson to the starting line-up after he came from the bench to score against Watford in midweek.

2. United will be looking to extend their lead at the top to six points after Chelsea's victory at Charlton yesterday put pressure on them. Spurs have not beaten United since 2001 but United have won only once in their last four Premiership away games and may well find this a stern test of their champions credentials.

3. United start the game playing from left to right. Unless you are watching the game from the opposite angle to the one I am currently viewing.

4. Patrice's Evra's hopeful cross lands straight into the arms of Paul Robinson.

   A mis-timed Paul Scholes tackle results in a free-kick. I know. I couldn't believe it either.

   Lee's hopeful shot is deflected behind for a Tottenham corner.

7. 2'

   Lennon wastes the corner but Lee forages down the left once more and wins a throw.

8. 3'

   Evra and Giggs link up on the left hand side but Evra's improvised cross drifts behind for a goal-kick.

9. 4'

   A fine pass from Carrick (receiving some 'treatment' from the Spurs fans who are clearly disgruntled with the hefty transfer fee United paid their club for his services)almost releases Rooney through the middle. Almost, but not quiet.

    Didier Zokora is fortunate to escape a yellow card after bringing down Gary Neville.

11. 6'

    Lennon's cross/shot ends up seving neither purpose and United have a goal-kick. Prior to this, Paul Scholes gave us another lesson in how not to tackle on the edge of his area and will be relieved that the referee decided to play advantage.

    A poor tackle from Vidic on Defoe thirty yards from United's goal results in a yellow card for the United defender.

13. 9'

    When the free-kick comes in Gary Neville shows a calm head to steer the ball away from the danger and out for a throw.

14. 10'

    Ronaldo does well to latch on to a ball he was second favorite to reach and when he crosses in to the Spurs penalty box Zokora races back to intercept and clear the ball.

15. 12'

    Larsson's touch is a tad heavy and the ball bounces out for a Spurs throw.

16. 13'

    Ronaldo has a long range effort but his aim is poor this time and the shot is well wide of the goal.

    Defoe pesters Vidic a little too much and concedes a free-kick in the process.

    Some good defensive play from Malbranque in his own half before he races down the left wing. The ball eventually reaches Berbatov but his shot from the edge of the box is poor and Van der Sar has it covered.

    Malbranque produces a fine dinked cross in to Defoe who is lingering with intent in the United box but he tries to execute a difficult shot with his back to goal and can't trouble Van der Sar with it.

    Evra beats Lennon but his cross is disappointing after the good work that preceded it.

    Giggs cuts inside Chimbonda then looks up to see who is available to cross to in the United area. He is out of options though and Spurs scamper back in numbers to snuff out the threat.

    Malbranque surges forward and plays a pass in to space which, if anyone in a Spurs shirt was close to, would have been a great pass. There wasn't though and so it wasn't.

    Giggs feeds Larsson whose shot is well blocked by Dawson for a corner.

    Robinson gets down to make a fine save from a Michael Carrick header. The ball bounces out to Ronaldo who is five yards from goal and swings wildly at the ball. He should have scored, instead he blasts it in to row Z.

    Dawson lands heavily after tangling with Rooney and the Spurs man is receiving treatment from the physios.

    He's up, he's fine. Hooray!

    Berbatov is penalised for getting a bit too 'hands-on' with Gary Neville.

    Lennon's cross in from the right is far too heavy and Van der Sar takes the resultant goal-kick.

    Gardner makes a very clumsy tackle on Henrik Larsson in the Spurs box. The referee seems to put his whistle to his lips but then appears to change his mind. Perhaps he shouldn't have. United certainly had a case for a penalty there.

    Neville crosses in to the box and Rooney latches on to it. The chance is difficult though and even the rejuvenated Rooney is unable to make much of it.

    Berbatov makes a good run through the middle and Ferdinand forces him wide. The Spurs striker's shot is put behind for a corner by Van der Sar which is wasted by the home side.

    Gary Neville is climbing all over Chimbonda as a ball is played in to the United area and was perhaps fortunate it escaped the referee's gaze. At the other end, Rooney is brought down and pleads for a free-kick which he does not get.

    Lee shows Wayne Rooney a clean pair of heels and the striker is fortunate Lee skips round his challenge. However, Rooney comes back for more and fouls the full-back which gets him a booking.

    Larsson does well to win the ball back before playing a short pass to Rooney on the edge of the box. Sheer weight of Spurs numbers forces the United man off the ball and Spurs are able to clear the ball.

    Ferdinand gives away a free-kick thirty yards out after clattering in to the back of Berbatov.

    Aaron Lennon takes it and scoops the shot high and wide of United's goal.

    Lee does well to block Ronaldo's cross.

    Rooney snatches at a shot which drifts well wide. The young striker needs to calm down a bit and keep a clear head if he is to find his way in to the game.

    Penalty!! Ronaldo is tripped by Steed Malbranque although the Portuguese went over very easily. Ronaldo will take it.

    GOAL - Ronaldo buries it in the bottom right hand corner. Robinson guesses well but the penalty is so well hit he can do nothing to stop it's journey in to the back of his net.

    Larsson is clipped by Chimbonda who is also booked.

    Larsson challenges Dawson who is once more down on the floor. Larsson pleads his innocence but the referee decides he too will go in the book.

    HALF-TIME - Not much between either team and even though United's penalty was controversial, they were denied a stonewaller earlier on so it is perhaps fair enough. Can Spurs respond?

    Ronaldo's re-appearance is greeted with a very loud chorus of boos from the home supporters. A video replay of the penalty decision at half-time was shown to the crowd who have made their displeasure known.

    Ronaldo receives the ball and tries a shot from a tight angle which Robinson knocks behind for a corner. When it comes in, Berbatov heads the ball away.

    Vidic tries a clever shot and Robinson is on hand to make a fine save once more and again United have a corner. When it comes in Vidic helps the ball on with his head before Carrick tries to bury it. Robinson once more saves for a corner.

    GOAL - Vidic thunders home a header from Carrick's fine corner. Game over?

    Van der Sar has to deal with an awkward bounce from Vidic's back pass but he does so expertly and clears the ball from his own half.

    Scholes makes another clumsy challenge and somehow is still not in the referee's book.

    Martin Jol looks concerned. Not without reason. His team appear a little shell-shocked after that second goal.

    GOAL - Larsson gathers a long ball well and feeds it to Ronaldo. He shimmies down the right wing and skips past Lee. His low cross finds Paul Scholes who bundles the ball in from a yard out. Game over for sure now.

    Vidic shepherds the ball behind for a goal-kick as Berbatov tries to get to it.

    Jermaine Defoe has come off for Robbie Keane and Didier Zokora has come off to be replaced by Hossam Ghaly.

    Rooney tries to bend one in from twenty-five yards out and almost produces a spectacular goal. His effort is just inches wide.

    Gardner does well to get back and tackle Giggs who is happy to let the ball run out for a corner.

    Chimbonda clears the corner and Spurs are off the hook this time.

    Ooh. Berbatov beats Ferdinand who makes the slightest of contacts on the striker's heels. It's inside the United area but the ref judges it to be a dive and waves the play on. He can't have been too sure though because he does not book Berbatov.

    Chimbonda does well to reach a ball which seemed to be sailing beyond him but when he crosses there are no men in the United penalty area to get on the end of it.

    Scholes breaks up a Spurs attack but the ball still breaks to Berbatov after good work from Huddlestone. Berbatov's shot is low and hard but Van der Sar gets down quickly to save it.

    Rooney comes off for Louis Saha and he does not look happy about it. Rooney that is.

    Malbranque concedes a free-kick thirty yards out from the Spurs goal.

    Giggs floats the ball over the wall but it goes straight to Robinson.

    Ronaldo leaves the field to be replaced by Ji-Sung Park.

    Gary Neville comes across from his berth on the right to break up a Spurs move just inside his penalty area.

    Robbie Keane lunges wildly at Ferdinand and is subsequently booked. Ferdinand and Keane have exchanged words.

    Chimbonda loses the ball but redeems himself by blocking Giggs's cross for a corner.

    Spurs clear the ball when it comes in but United get it back and immediately go on the attack. Scholes slips and the move breaks down when he loses the ball but Spurs really have no answer to United today.

    Larsson keeps his eye on a high ball but when he lifts his leg back to try a shot he finds his path obstructed by Lee.

    Van der Sar makes a great save from Berbatov who should have scored with a header from six yards out.

    GOAL - Saha holds the ball up well and times his pass perfectly in to the path of Ryan Giggs who slots home with ease to make the scoreline rather embarrassing for Spurs.

    Giggs's cross is well centred but Dawson gets back to clear. The United fans are urging their team to 'attack' and their side have responded magnificently today.

    John O'Shea is on for Ryan Giggs.

    O'Shea breaks forward and beats two challenges before losing the ball. Everyone in a United shirt fancies their chances now.

    Van der Sar appears to have been knocked out after making a good save from from Keane. Keane's momentum propelled him forward and his knee makes contact with Van der Sar's head. Ouch!!!!

    Van der Sar is blleding heavily through his nose and he has clearly broken it. Rio Ferdinand is donning the keeper's jersey to the strains of 'England's number one' coming from the only corner of White Hart Lane not be rapidly emptying. Oh, no he isn't. He has handed responsibility to John O'Shea. So Ireland's number one.

    Saha clears the corner with his head when Spurs take it.

    A free-kick is played in and O'Shea improvises a clearance which was an approximation of a punch.

    Lennon's cross is well cleared by Vidic's diving header.

    Berbatov, under pressure from Carrick, hits a shot well over the United bar.

    Keane, who is charging around the pitch like a man possessed, clumsily fouls Park and gives away a free-kick.

    Terrible back pass from Ferdinand which is woefully under-hit. Berbatov races on to it but John O'Shea is quick to read the danger and comes sprinting out of his goal to make a great tackle.

    The United fans are so impressed with their new keeper's performance that they taunt his opposite number with 'are you watching Robinson'.

    FULL-TIME - You can't really argue with a 0-4 win away from home and, after slipping up in north London recently, United have re-established a six point gap over Chelsea and vastly improved their goal difference.
