2. Bolton kick off on a dry, mild Spring afternoon in north London.

   A bit of hesitancy on the ball by Dawson on the edge of his own penalty area, but he manages to shepherd the ball back to Robinson who clears.

   Bolton are lining up with their ususal 4-3-3 formation, with Davies and Stelios joining Borgetti up front.

   Davies uses his arm to control a superb long pass from the back by Campo. Free-kick to the home side.

   Danny Murphy gets a rare start for Spurs this afternoon; he is playing on the left of midfield, in Edgar Davids' absence.

   Carrack goes on a good run at the heart of the Bolton defence before he is brought down by Ben Haim. The Bolton centre-back is booked for the challenge, and Spurs win a free-kick, just outside the area.

   Spurs win the first corner of the match when Gardner deflects Murphy's free-kick behind.

   Bolton break after Tottenham's corner, but Nakata can't beat Lennon out on the left wing and Spurs win back possession.

    Both sides really need the points this afternoon; Spurs need to stay ahead of Arsenal in the race for fourth spot, while Bolton are still chasing a UEFA Cup place.

    Sven-Goran Eriksson is in the stands this afternoon; he'll be keeping an eye on Spurs' young England hopefuls.

    Stelios wins his side a corner when he plays the ball off Stalteri. Speed sends the set-piece in to the middle, but Murphy heads clear.

    OFF THE POST! Borgetti nods down Davies' long ball, and Nakata smashes a shot against the upright from the edge of the penalty area. Great effort.

    Nakata struck that shot so well; he was really unlucky to see it cannon back off the post and out to safety.

    Bolton have only collected 18 points from their 18 away games so far this season; not a great record for a club in the top-half of the table.

    Murphy can't control Stalteri's pass in to the penalty area, and Ben Haim clears.

    Nakata has made a bright start to the game; he seems really eager to get on the ball and create some chances for his side. It's good to see him playing with such enthusiasm.

    Robinson thumps a huge clearance up-field, but Defoe has no chance in the air against Ben Haim.

    Bolton have made the better start to the game here; they are managing to get plenty of players forward, noteably their full-backs, who are really pushing on.

    Davies rather crudely fouls Carrick on the half-way line. Free-kick.

    Lennon does brilliantly to control Keane's wayward pass out to the right wing, but Gardner eventually wins the ball back for the home side.

    The crowd inside White Hart Lane seem quite subdued; they must recognise the importance of this game for their side.

    Speed's clearance is charged down by Taino, but the loose ball falls to Bolton.

    Apart from Nakata's shot which crashed against the post, there hasn't been a single shot on goal, from what I can remember.

    Bolton win another corner as a long ball in to the penalty area is headed behind. Dawson meets Stelios' set-piece and puts the ball behind for a second corner...

    ...Dawson again meets the centre, but this time he heads clear and Tottenham clear their lines.

    A small aeroplane is flying over the ground, dragging a banner behind it, reading: "Steve, I love you. Will you marry me? Manda."

    Dawson and Stelios fly wholeheartedly in to a tackle on the half-way line, but both players emerge unscathed.

    Bolton really do put the opposing centre-backs under pressure; they are loading the long balls in to the penalty area, but at the moment, Gardner and Dawson are coping well.

    Mido is spotted in the crowd; the on-loan Egyptian striker has a chance of returning from injury in time for the final game of the season next week.

    Campo hurls a long throw in to the area, but Davies is adjudged to have fouled Dawson as the two jumped for the header.

    Neither goalkeeper has had to make a save as yet. It has, in all honesty, been a poor game thus far.

    Bolton are doing an excellent job of putting Tottenham's main playmaker - Carrick - under pressure when he has got the ball. The tactic is stifling Spurs' creativity.

    Spurs take a quick free-kick, releasing Lennon down the right; he fires in a low cross looking for Keane, but Jussi Jaaskelainen claims.

    OVER! Campo's long throw is flicked on at the near post, but Campo turns an instinctive shot over the crossbar from six yards. Good chance.

    Campo should have done a lot better with his shot there; he could have put Bolton one-up had he got his effort on target.

    Davies is booked for a challenge from behind on Lee.

    There have already been two bookings, but we have barely had a tackle in the whole match. The referee seems in a bad mood this afternoon.

    GOOD HANDS! Speed's ball in to the area evades Borgetti, but flicks Dawson's boot on the way through and Robinson needs to show good handling skills to claim.

    Bolton have only won one of their last twelve away games, but they have been much the better side in this first half.

    Stelios wins another corner when he runs at Gardner down the right channel. Speed curls the ball in to the middle, but Robinson comes through a crowd to punch clear.

    So much of the game has been played in Tottenham's half, and Bolton will feel a little frustrated that they haven't converted their possession in to clear-cut chances.

    Bolton have played some good long passes up front for Borgetti and Davies to fight for; they just need a little more luck with the knock-downs.

    Robinson takes his time over a clearance; he seems to have forgotten that Spurs desperately need all three points to keep clear of Arsenal.

    BLOCK! Dawson blocks Stelios' goal-bound shot just inside his six-yard box. An important clearance from the young Spurs defender.

    I can't imagine the watching Sven-Goran Eriksson has seen much to impress him this afternoon. Carrick and Defoe have barely had a touch.

    Spurs' passing has been poor this afternoon; they just haven't got going, their midfield especially.

    There will be contrasting team-talks at half-time from the managers; Jol has got his work cut out to get the home side playing in the second half.

    Hunt's cross is too deep for Stelios or Borgetti in the middle, and Stalteri allows the ball to run out for a throw.

    HALF-TIME: Bolton have had all the play in the first half, and will be disappointed not to have got a lead to show for their efforts. Spurs have been dreadful.

    SPURS SUB: Keane is replaced by Barnard; the Tottenham captain picked up an injury in the latter stages of the half and is replaced by young Barnard.

    Bolton are certainly targetting Lee; they are knocking ball after ball over to their right-hand side, and Davies is winning every battle with the little South Korean full-back.

    Tottenham win the first corner of the second half. The ball drops to Dawson, but Gardner blocks his shot on the goal-line.

    SO CLOSE! Murphy fires a volley in to the side-netting after latching on to a half-cleared corner. Good effort from the former Charlton player.

    Spurs look a better side after the break; they are finally managing to get some possession in the Bolton half.

    OVER! Lennon cuts in from the right; space opens up for the shot, but he blasts a left-foot effort over the crossbar from the edge of the area. Good run from the young winger.

    BOLTON SUB: Borgetti is replaced by Vaz Te; a tactical change from Allardyce, who opts to try a bit of pace up front.

    Tottenham are disappointed not to win a free-kick when Lennon's heels are clipped on the edge of the penalty area.

    POOR EFFORT! Lee finds Tiano with a good pass in to feet; the midfielder turns well, but his left-foot shot dribbles through to Jussi Jaaskelainen in the Bolton goal.

    Bolton win a corner when Gardner hooks away Davies flick on, an important clearance as Vaz Te was lurking menacingly.

    Speed's corner is aimed for the back post, but Stalteri challenges Stelios strongly and the ball goes out for a goal-kick.

    Vaz Te can't quite beat Gardner as he looked to cut in from the right and get a shot away. Good defending from the big centre-back.

    Although Spurs have come back in to the match after the break, Bolton's height and strength is still causing Tottenham plenty of problems.

    Davies has had a really good game up front for Bolton; he has won everything in the air and has brought team-mates in to play wonderfully.
