Hello everyone, Michael Da Silva here. I will be guiding you through the spills and thrills of another north London derby as Arsenal make the short trip to White Hart Lane for the 3rd round of the League Cup.

Let me bring you all up to date with the line-ups...

<b>Spurs (4-4-1-1): Pletikosa; Naughton, Caulker, Bassong, Assou-Ekotto; Bentley, Sandro, Palacios, Livermore; Giovani; Pavlyuchenko.</b>

<b>Arsenal (4-3-3): Fabianski; Eboue, Djourou, Koscielny, Gibbs; Wilshere, Denilson, Lansbury; Nasri, Vela, Rosicky. </b>

First thing you'll notice is that Spurs are slightly weaker than expected and Arsenal are significantly stronger. Arsene Wenger has handed starts to Koscielny, Wilshere, Denilson, Nasri, Vela and Rosicky. Take from that what you will...

Spurs give new goalkeeper Pletikosa a debut and Harry Redknapp hands rare starts to Bentley and Giovani Dos Santos. There is also a debut for new signing Sandro.

When these two bitter North London rivals clash in the League Cup it is normally at the semi-final stage, and they have enjoyed some famous last-four tussles over the years.

Arsenal emerged victorious in 1987 after a thrilling trilogy of games. The Gunners looked down and out in the second leg at White Hart Lane, but riled by a half-time tannoy announcement telling Spurs fans how to get their tickets for Wembley, they rallied and forced a third game which they dramatically won in the final seconds.

The players are on the pitch but before we kick off there will be a minute of applause for Spurs legend <b> Bobby Smith</b>, who died last week at the age of 77. Smith was a part of Tottenham's double-winning team of 1960-61.

<b>The atmosphere at Spurs is electric as ever, as we kick off this north London derby... </b>

Fabianski hits the ball straight out of play and Spurs are enjoying most of the early possession.

Lansbury finds Nasri who bursts into the box for Arsenal, but Assou-Ekotto does well to snuff out the danger.

Carlos Vela smashes a shot far, far over the bar from distance.

Sandro gives the ball away but Giovani pops up on the edge of his own box and makes an excellent slide tackle, to hand possession back to Spurs. Good tracking back by the Mexican.

Wonderful long pass from left to right by Bentley finds Tottenham's right back, Naughton, in an advanced position, but his cross is intercepted by Koscielny.

Wilshere spots Eboue's run in similar fashion but the African steps on the ball.

Djourou trips Pavlyuchenko on the left and Bentley whips in the resulting free kick and it sails just over. Could he have crossed instead there?

Yes, is the answer.

Lansbury is shoved in the back by Assou-Ekotto in the box and that could easily have been an Arsenal penalty. Not given though.

This time Lansbury tries his luck from 30 yards but drags his shot well wide. Arsenal the stronger of the two sides early on.

<b>GOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLL!!!! 1-0 Arsenal!</b> It's Lansbury with the goal! Brilliant build-up by Arsenal through Gibbs, who feeds Wilshere who whips in a tremendous low cross from the left and Lansbury slides in to score from close-range.

Arsenal are absolutely dominating Spurs at the moment. The home side are struggling to live with their rivals at the moment.

Spurs looking almost shambolic in defence. But Arsenal are knocking the ball around very nicely right now.

Bentley comes close for Spurs! Djourou commits himself far up the field and alloows Bentley to break, who smashes an effort from the edge of the box. That was an incisive break by Spurs, their best moment so far.

Sandro concedes a free-kick and Denilson tries his luck from all of 30+ yards. The Brazilian fires it low and wide.

Spurs struggling to get the ball at the moment.

Assou-Ekotto falls over his own feet in typical Assou-Ekotto style and gifts Arsenal possession, Rosicky shoots low from distance and it goes just wide.

Pavlyuchenko profits from a good ball by Palacios and the Russian takes a snap shot from the edge of the box and, for a scond, the Spurs fans think it is in. But Pav hits the side-netting. Good effort for Spurs.

Spurs centre-back Caulker gets forward down the right flank and puts in a cross for Dos Santos but it goes straight out for a goal kick. Spurs looking slightly better though.

Arsenal still looking poised in possession and very comfortable on the ball, especially Wilshere.

Sandro enjoying some very neat touches in midfield.

Spurs settling down somewhat and are actually keeping the ball without losing it straight away.

But Arsenal looking far more accomplished in attacking areas and they have regained the impetus.

Gibbs is wrongly flagged offside as he was through on goal! Wilshere put him through with another delightful pass and he was definitely level. Shoddy decision by the assistant referee.

Sandro is getting a talking to for throwing the ball away. I think the referee is saying something along the lines of "You are only wasting your own time." Not sure the Brazilian understands but we are underway again.

Spurs are certainly racking up these yellow cards...

Arsenal are playing out the remaining seconds of the first half.

Spurs have been run ragged by an excellent Arsenal performance. For the Gunners, their only disappointment comes in the fact that they are not 2 or 3 goals up. They've been dominant.

Spurs have started brightly here. They already look more balanced in attack but thei problems weren't in attack...

Denilson tries to burst in between the Tottenham centre-backs but Bassong deals with him.

That was really bad by the Arsenal keeper after Keane was one-on-one after Naughton's pass put him through. Fabianski dived to his left and let Keane's tame shot go through his hands.

That goal has left White Hart Lane bouncing again.

Bassong has caught Wilshere in a dangerous area...

... but Carlos Vela can't get the ball up and down from the free kick and Spurs can breathe again.

Lennon finds Keane but Denilson scrambles the ball clear. Spurs looking dangerous down that right side.

Vela skips around Bentley, finds Wilshere on the edge of the box, who tries to flick it over the Spurs defence and back into Vela's path. But Bassong just about does enough to clear.

We really have a game on now. Spurs are playing and Arsenal still look dangerous when they get the ball.

As a result, the game is opening up. More goals in this I'd say.

Eboue gallops down the right wing and, rather than crossing for the waiting Nasri, he smashes the ball from a ridiculous angle and distance. What was he thinking?!

Nasri doesn't look pleased about that, as you'd expect.

Nice build up by Arsenal. Nasri plays the ball back to Rosicky, who clips a cross in for Vela but the Mexican striker can't keep his header down.

Nasri central to Arsenal in this second half, and Spurs are finding it hard to contain him.

Sandro saves Tottenham's bacon with a last-ditch tackle after Caulker inexplicably conceded posession in his own half. Arsenal growing in stature again...

Jack Wilshere is clearly not short of confidence. He just tried a 'look one way and pass the other' manoeuvre that Ronaldinho would have been proud of.

Arsene Wenger is struggling to communicate with the Arsenal bench. Banned from sitting in the dugout after his remonstrations at Sunderland last weekend, Wenger is trying to text Pat Rice pitchside.

Pavlyuchenko finds space on the left and puts in a first time cross on the run for Sandro, who was motoring into the box.

Sandro's momentum saw him clatter into Koscielny, who looks like he's been tangoed.

The ball comes to Wilshere on the edge of the box but, under pressure, he has to shoot early with his weaker right foot and Pletikosa saves.

Chance for Lennon! The Tottenham man gets a sight of goal but just as he is about to pull the trigger Koscielny gets back to make a brilliant interception. That surely would have been a goal for Spurs.

A couple of changes for Arsenal coming up...

Wenger is really going for it with those changes. The last thing either side want is Extra Time, but that's where we're heading.

"COME ON YOU SPURRRRRRSSSSSS" is the cry from the White Hart Lane faithful.

Eboue tries a hopeful ball to Nasri, but Naughton intercepts and Spurs break with Lennon...

... but his cross is headed clear.

Bentley's right footed attempt was on target but it's straight at Fabianski.

We are ten minutes away from Extra Time...

Robbie Keane hits the post for Spurs! Bentley whips in a free kick right footed from the left and Keane, who looked a shade offside, side foots against the far post.

Sandro misses his header as Lansbury crosses from the right and, luckily for the new Spurs man, the ball goes straight out for a throw.

Arsenal cranking up the pressure again and the ball drops to Lansbury on the edge of the box, who fires a good low shot at Pletikosa who, at the second time of asking, holds on to it.

We are now FOUR minutes from Extra Time...

Nasri does well on the left side of the penalty area to make space and lays the ball back to Denilson who hits a first time shot from 20 yards, but slices it horribly wide. My gran, as they say, could have done better than that.

Chamakh gets onto the end of a through ball in the penalty box and sells out Assou-Ekotto with a neat drag back, but can't get a shot away. He lays it back to Arshavin instead, but the Russian's scuffed shot is saved from close range.

Harry Redknapp is twitching at the thought of Extra Time...

Arsenal win a free kick on the right and Wilshere can put in the inswinger here...

He does and Pletikosa misses it but Spurs somehow clear! A real stomping finale this...

Arsenal finishing very strongly here...

That all happened so quickly that I didn't even have time to tell you what happened... Nasri was put through and Bassong, Tottenham's captain tonight, was caught the wrong side and dragged Nasri down. It was soft, but it was a penalty.

Unbelievable stuff... Caulker drags Chamakh down this time in an incident remarkably similar to the one a few moments ago... Nasri to take again...

Spurs look absolutely shocked by the opening five minutes of extra time and Arsenal could run riot now. They are the dominant force again here.

Sandro has been running on empty, so that change makes sense.

David Bentley misses a sitter for Spurs. Caulker whips in a perfect cross from the right and Bentley puts a free header wide. Maybe that's why he doesn't start for Spurs anymore.

Wilshere puts in a teasing low cross from the left and Chamakh very nearly gets on the end of it to tap in for a fourth. But luckily for Spurs, the cross evades him.

Nasri has cleared off the line from Robbie Keane but there is a suggestion that crossed the line. Not sure it would make any difference now, anyway.

We are in the second half of extra time now and Arsenal's fans are cheering every pass. This is painful for the few Spurs fans that remain.

Arsenal just enjoyed a 30 pass move that was cheers by every Arsenal fan. Spurs being totally embarrassed on their own ground here...

As you can probably tell, the game has gone dead. Arsenal seem happy with 4 and Spurs have accepted defeat.

We have six minutes to go but I'm not confident anything meaningful is going to happen in that time.

Pavlyuchenko wins the ball on the left wing, cuts inside Djourou and fires a right footed effort just wide. That's as close as Spurs have come to looking interested, let alone scoring, in Extra Time.

We are two minutes from the final whistle...

Nasri chases what looked like a lost cause on the right wing to cross for Arshavin, who tries an acrobatic effort from the edge of the box but it goes wide.

<b>That's the end of the game. Arsenal have beaten Spurs 4-1 in the Carling Cup. </b>

Spurs effectively gave up after the second Nasri penalty killed them off and Extra Time was an utterly one-sided affair as a result.

So Arsenal go into the fourth round, Spurs crash out.
