Sunderland – Tottenham Hotspur

1. Afternoon all, welcome to live coverage of Tottenham's tricky trip to Sunderland.

2. The team news is simple, Tottenham are unchanged from the side that beat Swansea and Sunderland make no changes from the team that secured a fine draw at Manchester City.

3. Unchanged teams signify a team doing well and both of these teams should be full of confidence, hopefully that translates into a good game with plenty of goals.

4. With Arsenal facing a Manchester City side desperate for a win to keep their title hopes alive, Tottenham have a big chance to steal a march on their north London rivals but that Swansea success was their first win in six.

5. Sunderland are a bit topsy turvy at the moment with two wins, two draws and two defeats in their last six. They can move into seventh with a win today.

   Bright sunny day on Wearside and the pitch looks reasonable - Spurs knocking it about early on.

   Sunderland have barely had a kick yet - bar the odd tackle.

   Decent effort from Assou-Ekotto - it flicked the post as Mignolet gave it up.

    Sunderland can't get into Tottenham's half as Modric nearly gets on the end of a Bale cross.

    Finally Sunderland do get into the opposition half but only with an aimless punt from Kilgallon.

    First decent bit of football from Sunderland ends with a wayward effort from Gardner from the edge of the box.

    Then Assou-Ekotto gets into trouble with about seven Cryuff turns near his own corner flag - Spurs get a free kick as Bale dives in the face of a non-contact tackle from Bardsley.

    Nothing happening up front for Sunderland as yet. Bendtner isolated.

    Good effort from Modric as he turns on the edge of the box but Mignolet is behind it.

    Bardsley tracks Bale well and blocks the cross. He'll have to do plenty of that today.

    Good opening for Adebayor as he gets a free header in the area - the header hits Bardsley on the arm from point blank range. Seen them given.

    Spurs enjoying 75% possession thus far but Sunderland break and McClean wins a corner off Gallas.

    Tottenham break and as the ball trickles loose outside the area Parker's strike hits Turner and now the away side have a corner.

    Van der Vaart's excellent pass finds Adebayor but the striker is offside.

    Bendtner has had no change from Kaboul at all in the air.

    Now Sandro nearly gives the ball away to Sessegnon but recovers, Sunderland still push forward and Assou-Ekotto concedes a corner.

    A low corner ricochets around the box and hits Parker's arm but it is so close it can't be, but then Kilgallon shoots and Bendtner can't get a touch when faced with Kaboul. Corner.

    At the other end Bale runs out of pitch when taking on Colback.

    Sandro has been in the thick of it this half - he wins another free kick after a double barge from Colback and McClean.

    The referee isn't very popular with the home fans after awarding Spurs another free kick as Gardner bumped Modric. He was quite right though.

    McClean's cross very nearly falls for Sessegnon inside the box but Parker gets a boot in. Much more even game now.

    It is an excellent cross, with real pace - Turner climbs high and Sandro gets his noggin on it just in time.

    Bale turns and shoots but Cattermole tracked him well to block.

    <b>HALF TIME</b> An even-ish first half but Tottenham dominating possession and territory. Few clear cut chances though and neither 'keeper worked at all.

47. Tottenham will probably be the more satisfied of the two teams heading into the break but Sunderland came into more as the half progressed. Expect the game to get more stretched the longer it goes without a goal.

    Nice build up from Bale as he gets to the byline and drags the ball back - Modric backheels for Van der Vaart but he blazes over with his right foot from 17 yards.

    Poor from McClean who had time and space to run at Walker - he cuts in and finds traffic before losing the ball.

    At the other end a lovely ball from VDV to Adebayor but he blasts a volley over and was offside anyway.

    Why VDV didn't hit it earlier I don't know - his shot was even heading wide. No penalty for me as it flicked up off Turner's thigh.
