4. 1'

   Southampton get us underway

5. 2'

Southampton are on the front foot early doors, Primus wins a free-kick from Ormerod

6. 3'

Ormerod plays in Beattie down the right flank, and the England striker wins a corner off Foxe

Dodd floats it in and the ball smacks into the face of Higginbotham - he needs a bit of treatment

8. 5'

   Smertin brings down Higginbotham, free-kick

9. 6'

Now Sherwood catches Marsden very late. Referee Winter has words with the midfielder and he's lucky to get away without the booking

10. 7'

Putton plays in the free-kick and Stefanovic gets there just before the onrushing Svensson. Corner

11. 8'

Again it's Dodd to float one in from the right, but againit comes to nothing

12. 9'

Another free-kick for a foul by Foxe on Prutton

13. 10'

Taylor tries a shot from 25 yards out, but he drags it well wide

14. 11'

It's gone a bit scrappy now, Pompey are up for this big derby clash

15. 12'

Schemmel catches Prutton late, another free-kick but no card

16. 13'

Primus pushes Ormerod to the floor ten yards outside the box, a chance here for Saints

17. 14'

Dodd floats it in to Svensson on the back stick, and he just fails to get on the end of it. Svensson goes to the floor under Foxe's challenge, but it's never a penalty

18. 15'

Putton's header back towards his own goal is latched on to by Roberts - but the flag goes up for offside! It was a Saints man who played it on - ludicrous decision.

19. 16'

Roberts does well in the Southampton box - only for clever defending from Marsden to win a free-kick for the home side

20. 17'

Stefanovic clatters into the back of Ormerod, giving Saints another chance to get it into the box

21. 18'

Lundekvam gets onto the end of Dodd's deliver but can't keep his header down. Another warning shot for Pompey

22. 19'

Stefanovic does well to beat Beattie to the ball as he looked to latch onto Marsden's knock on

23. 20'

Roberts does well to turn on the edge of the box, only to see his shot blocked by a defender

24. 21'

Marsden catches Sherwood with a high boot, just a free-kick

25. 22'

Pompey's fans are irate after Taylor is denied a corner, but it's the correct decision

26. 23'

Ormerod's cross fails to find a man after he did brilliantly to hold up the ball and beat his man

27. 24'

Putton picks up the loose ball and deliver to Ormerod on the back stick, whose header only hits a defender and Pompey clear

28. 25'

Pahars tries an effort from 30 yards - which finds row Z

29. 26'

The ball pings around the Southampton box. Taylor sees a shot blocks and so does Roberts before Niemi gleefully mops up

30. 27'

Pompey are defending resolutely, making it hard for Saints to break then down, and are then looking to play on the break

31. 28'

Handball against Lundekvam, and an ironic cheer goes up from the Pompey fans as they finally get a free-kick

32. 29'

Sherwood floats it in but Marsden is strong to head clear

33. 30'

Saints break. It's Prutton on the ball, he had Ormerod to his left and opts to push on - and loses the ball

34. 31'

Hughes' cross towards Sheringham in the box is too deep and Saints clean up

35. 32'

Neither keeper has had a save to make as yet. It's a cagey affair, but one goal could change all that

36. 33'

Another free-kick for Saints. Dodds drifts one in from the left and Stefanovic heads behind for a corner

37. 34'

Dodd delivers from the left this time

38. 34'

    GOAL!!!!!

39. 35'

Dodds inswinging corner goes to the back post and curls straight in! Schemmel was on the post, but his attempt to keep it out was poor - his jump was lazy and the ball ended up in the back of the net! First blood to the home side

40. 36'

Jason Dodd has been superb from set-pieces all afternoon, but no-one can have expected him to score in such a bizarre manner. Harry Redknapp will be furious

41. 37'

Beattie is felled by Sherwood, yet another free-kick to Saints

42. 38'

Ormerod battles well on the left to get his cross in, Foxe heads to safety

43. 39'

Marsden feed in Higginbotham on the left and he wins the corner

44. 40'

Dodd steps up on the left once more and Stefanovic has to head behind

45. 41'

Dodd goes over to the right, Wapenaar flaps and eventually Pompey clear their lines. They're under the cosh now

46. 42'

Pompey move forward now, and Prutton puts it behnid for a corner. Taylor delivers but fails to find a blue shirt

47. 43'

Ole! Saints fans enjoy the players passing the ball around in midfield

48. 44'

Roberts wins another corner for Portsmouth, the cross comes in from the right from Taylor. It's eventually worked to Stefanovic on the edge of the box - and he fires way over

49. 45'

Primus tries a shot from inside the D, but only hits Stefanovic

50. 45'

One minute to be added on

51. 45'

Putton's snap shot from 25 yards fizzes just over the crossbar

52. 45'

And there goes the half-time whistle

53. 45'

It's been a tight game, with little in the way of goalmouth chances, and Southampton needed a bizarre goal from Jason Dodd to take the advantage.

54. 46'

Pompey get the second period underway

55. 47'

It's a scrappy start to the second period, neither side putting their foot on the ball

56. 48'

Stefanovic's free-kick is aimed to the impressive Roberts, but the long-ball has too much pace and Niemi collects

57. 49'

No sign of the rain that affected Molineux and St Andrews yesterday. It's a bright sunny day on the south coast

58. 50'

Wapenaar has the sun right in his eyes, but he's strangely opting to leave his cap inside his goal

59. 51'

The first booking of the day goes to Schemmel for jumping in too strongly on Pahars. It's given for cummulative offences

60. 52'

That booking rules Schemmel out of the trip to Aston Villa

61. 53'

Smertin shows great strength and control to hold onto the ball. But the former Russia skipper takes too long on the ball, and eventually Saints win the goal-kick

62. 54'

Portsmouth make their first change, Sebastian Schemmel is replaced by Boris Zivkovic

63. 55'

Hughes is allowed time to bring it forward. He opts to shoot but there's no pace on his effort and Niemi claims

64. 56'

A defensive mix-up puts Roberts in space on the right, Hughes makes a hash of his shot after latching onto the cross and Saints survive

65. 57'

Hughes claims a penalty follwing a push by Svensson, but it's never a spot-kick and referee Winter waves play on

66. 58'

A second change for the visitors as Richard Hughes is replaced by Yakubu Ayegbini

67. 59'

Redknapp changes to a more attacking formation as he looks to get back into this game - but will it leave them more vulnerable at the back?

68. 60'

Pahars long ball finds Ormerod. He's bundled to the ground by Foxe but no free-kick is given. That's a shocking decision

69. 61'

Ormerod is flat out on the floor and needs treatment. The striker has a cut above his eye and was clearly fouled by Foxe - but he looks as though he'll be okay to carry on

70. 62'

Foxe was possibly the last man as well, and could have seen red had referee Winter blown up for a foul

71. 63'

Marsden is penalised for handball just outside the Saints' box. This is a great chance for Pompey

72. 64'

Sheringham blasts it goalwards, but he can only hit the wall and it deflects behind for a corner

73. 65'

Taylor's corner is well defended by Lundekvam and Saints can break

74. 66'

Pompey are caught napping up the ther end of the field. Higginbotham feeds it in to Prutton inside the box, who gets lucky as his attempted dummy comes back to him off a defender. He turns well but sees his shot deflected behind for a corner

75. 67'

Delap floats in the corner but Stefanovic clears

76. 68'

Pahars receives the ball just outside the box and does brilliantly to skip past Smertin and Zivkovic. That gives the Latvian space for the shot...

77. 68'

    GOAL!!!!!

78. 69'

Pahars unleashes a superb effort from 20 yards which leaves Wapenaar helpless. The pint-sized striker, so troubled by injuries of late, found the corner with a sublime shot. The creation and the execution were out of the top draw.

79. 70'

It's a long way back for Portsmouth now. And to make matters worse, Pahars was about to be substituted by manager Gordon Strachan. Not now, however

80. 71'

A great run by Dodd end with a cross into the box for Beattie, who can only head over the bar

81. 72'

Sherwood and Zivkovic go for the same ball on the edge of the box, meaning Sherwood's effort is rushed and ends up in row Z

82. 73'

Sheringham's goal-bound effort is blocked brilliantly by Dodd, and it loops up and into the hands of Niemi

83. 74'

Ormerod tries to get Primus on the byline, only for the ball to rebound back off his shins for a goal-kick

84. 75'

Pahars does well to win the corner off Primus. Dodd takes from the left, Stefanovic is there to head clear

85. 76'

Portsmouth are looking a beaten side now. They've struggled to break down one of the best defences in the Premiership all afternoon

86. 77'

Prutton brings the ball forward but gets his cross all wrong and Wapenaar is there

87. 78'

Smertin fires in a shot from just outside the box, and Niemi needs two attempts to collect. The effort lacked venom

88. 79'

Another foul by Sherwood, this time on Beattie, sees him enter the book. Like Schemmel, he is now suspended for the trip to Villa Park.

89. 80'

A first change for Southampton, as Marian Pahars, scorer of that superb second, is replaced by Neil McCann

90. 81'

Saints make another change, the hardworking Brett Ormerod goes off and on comes former Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips

91. 82'

The Southampton fans are in fine voice now as they look certain to take the derby day honours

92. 83'

Foxe sends Prutton sprawling, and that sees the centre-back enter the book

93. 84'

McCann tries, like Pahars, to get between Zivkovic and Smertin and wins the free-kick

94. 85'

Dodd again delivers into the dangerzone, forcing Wapenaar to punch behind. Referee Winter sees an infringment, however, and it's a free-kick to Pompey

95. 86'

Sherwood's attempt to put the ball back into the box is weak, and Niemi controls on his chest - much to the joy of the home support

96. 87'

Pompey ahve a bit more life now, but surely they are playing for no more than pride

97. 88'

Yakubu wins a corner. Taylor takes... but it goes straight out of play

98. 89'

Zivkovic blocks off McCann and it's a free-kick just outside the box for Saints. A real chance for a shot here

99. 90'

It's Beattie who strikes it and it drifts inches wide of Wapenaar's left-hand post. So close to a third for the Saints

100. 90'

Two minutes to be added on

101. 90'

Roberts works space for himself and tries a shot from inside the D, but his effort goes way, way wide

102. 90'

A final change for Saints at the death. Chris Baird comes on for Chris Marsden

103. 90'

Baird does brilliantly to chase down Stefanovic, he plays it back to Phillips who curls in a cross...

104. 90'

     GOAL!!!

105. 90'

Beattie stooped at the near post to head past a helpless Wapenaar. Game, set and very much match

106. 90'

And that's the last action of the game, full-time

107. 90'

Pompey are in real trouble if this is anything to go by. They look ripe for the picking at the back, and hesitant going forward

108. 90'

Southampton's days of struggling to score would now appear behind them, and with the backline remaining as strong as ever who's to say they can't hold on to the fourth spot they currently occupy?
