Southampton can recall Pahars while Woodgate is back for Newcastle.

Kieron Dyer is back too alongside Alan Shearer. Shearer, of course, takes on his old team.

Saints get the game underway. And play a long ball up for Beattie. An early foul by Prutton.

Phillips, booed by the Toon fans, attacks. Given and Speed combine to clear the ball.

Woodgate miscontrols and the ball is off for a throw.

Woodgate clears a Higginbotham cross. Shearer forces a throw down the other end.

Hughes' cross cleared by Lundekvam. Bernard fouled by Prutton. Newcastle free-kick.

Robert clouts it. Niemi is unsighted but the ball goes wide.

Niemi comes out to clear. Saints clear a Hughes cross.

Beattie robs Robert. Higginbotham gets in a cross. Phillips tries to smash the ball at goal but scuffs his effort.

Beattie outpaces Bramble with ease. Flicks to Telfer. But Phillips is offside.

Bernard does well but Prutton gets the ball away from Jenas.

Good delivery. Jenas can't get to it. Woodgate flails. Corner ball.

Solano out to Robert. Bramble's volley is poor. Saints breathe easy.

But Southampton play it safe. Not much happening as yet. Few chances around.

Svensson outjumps Shearer. The big names yet to get a sniff.

Good pace for Pahars. Good ball. But Speed heads away.

Great tackle from Prutton as Dyer looked to mount an attack.

Ball comes to Shearer. But a Southampton leg takes the sting out and Niemi can claim with ease.

Bramble steps in to stop Dodd's pass. Svensson fouls Jenas.

Robert works a free-kick to Solano. Dyer looked to pounce but the linesman correctly calls him offside.

Hughes, Solano and Shearer gain space for Dyer to get a shot in from Hughes' cross. He takes his time to aim and drills a shot in. 1-0 Newcastle!

Newcastle putting some good football together and that goal was deserved. They continue to force the pace.

Dyer lost his footing when Shearer tried to play him in. Southampton struggling to hold the Geordie boys.

Southampton need to get a foothold in a game which seems to be getting away from them.

Jenas fouls Beattie and is angry that the ref penalises him.

Phillips did well in a tight corner. Beattie was lurking but the ball squirms to Given.

Shearer gets a chance when a Speed shot screws through a crowd of players. He smashes over when he looked offside. The flag though was down.

Dyer loops a ball over for Robert, who smashes his shot into the ground and wide of the goal.

Prutton skews a cross as Woodgate was out of position.

Gordon Strachan not happy. Bramble deals well with Beattie and then is only too happy to be fouled.

Woodgate stops Phillips' burst. Svensson rushes back to stop Aaron Hughes' dash into the box.

Bramble the target for the corner. The ball knocked away. Niemi comes in to thwart Speed.

A melee in the box after Solano's corner. A series of rebounds. Beattie clears and Robert smashes it with real power. Niemi can't get it away and it's 2-0 to the away side!

Svensson concedes a corner under little pressure. Saints rattled.

Woodgate defeats Pahars in a battle of skill. Every contest being won by the Magpies.

Saints pushed back. Lundekvam with little option on the ball. Pahars fouled by Hughes.

Beattie fires a free-kick across the floor. Off for a corner which Beattie heads straight off. A case in point for a dreadful half for Southampton.

The Geordies get the second half underway. Ball gets played out wide right.

No doubt a hefty amount of Strachan shouting at half-time. Saints are going out otherwise.

Prutton finds Phillips. The cross from Telfer was poor and Newcastle get the ball away.

Bramble hacks away a Telfer cross. Saints' delivery not yet up to much.

Svensson jumps up. But can only head off for a Toon goal-kick.

Still a lack of Saints impetus. Pahars out on the left lofts a cross to Beattie. He falls to the ground. And looked to be fouled by Bramble.

Beattie gets away from Bramble and was heading in on goal. But Woodgate makes a fine tackle.

Higginbotham can only head the corner behind. Saints gathering some impetus now at last.

Svensson, who's been anonymous, is fouled. But Beattie can't get to the long ball.

Phillips thwarted by the commanding Woodgate.

Dodd gets down the right. Seemed to held back by Bernard. Phillips dinks a cross over for Beattie. But Hughes' pressure stops him getting his nod on goal. Saints' best of the half.

Woodgate again stops Beattie. Man of the match so far. Svensson stopped by Speed.

Pahars brought down by Hughes. Free-kick taken quickly. Bramble over-deliberates but gets a chance to clear.

Speed concedes a corner. Saints need a goal here.

Lundekvam comes across to meet Dodd's corner. Great header is saved by the well-positioned Given.

Telfer penalised for a foul on Bernard. Given given time to take his kick.

Dyer fouled. Free-kick chance. Robert or Shearer to hit this?

No, slipped wide to Jenas. He drills it wide. Robert not happy that he didn't get a go at smashing it goalward.

Ormerod comes on for Pahars.

Dyer takes the mantle on. He gets a chance to run at the defence from Shearer's flick. He beats Prutton and Svensson and then flicks it over Niemi. 3-0 and game over. Great goal!

Shearer on the run but his pass is miles away from Dyer. Saints have been taught a real lesson by their North-eastern visitors.

Woodgate clears to Prutton. The former Forest man drills his shot over.

Niemi clears under pressure from Robert. The game all but over.

Hughes heads away from Ormerod. Neacastle's back four looking far more solid than they have for some time.

Svensson sells Higginbotham short. The Swede has had a real shocker.

Shearer overhits a through pass to Solano. Robert looked rather miffed that he wasn't given the ball.

Bernard on the charge, beating two men. But Lundekvam comes across to stop him. Looked to be a rather rough challenge. No penalty given by Mike Dean.

Southampton looking for the final whistle. Time can't pass quick enough for them.

Shearer penalised for hacking out. Prutton breaks up a Newcastle attack.

Bramble clears a Higginbotham cross. Nothing doing for the Saints tonight.

Shearer down the right swings a cross over. Only Jenas there and so Niemi claims under little pressure.

Job done for Dyer and co. Time to rest legs for Bobby.

Svensson fails to win a throw. He's lost the ball rather too much tonight for the liking of Gordon Strachan one thinks.

LuaLua gets clear with the ball. Shearer the target for his cross. Lundekvam clears the ball.
