Norwich City – Manchester United

1. Join us from 1730 GMT to see if Manchester United will make it hard for themselves again when they take on Norwich at Carrow Road.

2. <img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2012/1116/ryangiggscelebvnorwich20120226_275x155.jpg"><br>United battled back in this fixture last season, with Ryan Giggs scoring a dramatic late winner on his 900th appearance for the club.

3. Our Norwich blogger Paddy Davitt reckons <a href="http://soccernet.espn.go.com/blog/_/name/norwichcity/id/231?cc=5739" target="_blank">the Canaries must go back to the future</a> to thwart United, while ESPN analyst Kevin Keegan says <a href="http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story/_/id/1227292/kevin-keegan:-no-striker-wants-%27super-sub%27-label?cc=5739" target="_blank">Javier Hernandez will be desperate to prove himself from the start</a> and shed the dreaded 'super sub' tag.

4. Norwich team to face Manchester United: Ruddy, Garrido, Turner, Bassong, Whittaker, Tettey, Johnson, Pilkington, Hoolahan, Snodgrass, Holt.

5. Manchester United team to face Norwich: Lindegaard, Rafael, Ferdinand, Smalling, Evra, Valencia, Carrick, Giggs, Young, Hernandez, Van Persie.

6. Anders Lindegaard is a late replacement in goal for David de Gea, who picked up an injury in the warm-up.

7. Norwich substitutes: Bunn, Howson, Jackson, Morison, E. Bennett, Tierney, R. Bennett.

8. Manchester United substitutes: Johnstone, Jones, Anderson, Welbeck, Scholes, Cleverley, Fletcher.

9. Norwich are unchanged from the side that drew 0-0 with Reading last week, with Alex Tettey recovering from a back problem in time.

10. United bring in Anders Lindegaard, Ryan Giggs and Javier Hernandez at the expense of David de Gea, Paul Scholes and Wayne Rooney. The England striker has failed to shake off an ankle injury.

11. The players are out onto the pitch. We are just moments away from kick-off...

12. Interestingly, Chris Hughton has yet to beat Sir Alex Ferguson as a manager.

13. 1'

    And we're off...

14. 1'

Carrick tries to send an early ball over the top to Hernandez but Bassong does well to deal with the danger.

15. 1'

Garrido tries to play Pilkington in down the left but he misplaces his pass.

16. 2'

Ferdinand almost gets caught in possession by Holt in a dangerous position but he manages to recover.

17. 3'

First chance of the game goes to United as Van Persie tries to bend an effort into the bottom corner from the edge of the area but Ruddy gets down low to tip round the post.

18. 4'

Norwich manage to clear Young's corner out for a throw.

19. 4'

United are starting to impose themselves on the game early on with their players seeing plenty of the ball.

20. 5'

Snodgrass goes close for Norwich as a speculative effort from the edge of the box goes just over the bar.

21. 6'

Hoolahan tries to pick out the run of Holt but Ferdinand does well to intercept the pass.

22. 7'

Valencia sends in a ball from the right but he just fails to pick out Hernandez. Norwich clear it for the corner.

23. 8'

Norwich go close again as they break from the United corner before eventually Pilkington fires in an effort just wide of the post from the edge of the penalty area.

24. 9'

Carrick does well to intercept a Hoolahan pass and bring an end to a promising Norwich move.

25. 10'

Whittaker brings down Young in a dangerous position.

26. 10'

Giggs spots the run of Van Persie on the edge of the box but the striker fails to keep his shot down.

27. 11'

A decent start to the game then with both sides creating a few chances already.

28. 11'

Ferdinand heads clear a dangerous Pilkington delivery.

29. 12'

Chris Hughton will be pleased with his side's start to the game. They've shown that they won't just be sitting back tonight.

30. 13'

Bassong does well to dispossess Hernandez.

31. 13'

Tettey misplaces a pass just as Norwich look like they are about to start a decent attack.

32. 14'

Holt brings down Rafael for a free-kick. Harsh on the striker.

33. 14'

Turner brings down Hernandez for a free-kick in a dangerous position.

34. 15'

It's Young who fires in the free-kick at goal but it was never troubling Ruddy who makes the save.

35. 16'

Norwich have been a little sloppy in possession in the last few minutes, giving it away cheaply.

36. 17'

Johnson picks out Hoolahan with a good pass. The attacker turns on a six pence before striking from distance but Lindergaard does well to get down low and make the save.

37. 18'

Young tries to create something down the left but Turner does well to close him down and the ball bounces out for a goal kick.

38. 20'

Norwich again give it away, this time Hoolahan just outside United's penalty area.

39. 20'

Young picks out Hernandez in space with a killer ball but the striker is eventually closed down on the left and the ball goes off for a corner.

40. 21'

Young sends in the corner to the unmarked Evra but the Frenchman heads it well wide. Should have done better.

41. 22'

The last ten minutes or so have not been the most lively...

42. 23'

Norwich have seen a fair bit of the ball but they have struggled at trying to penetrate United's defence.

43. 24'

Pilkington does well to send in a dangerous ball into the box from the right. It is Snodgrass who rises highest but he heads just wide.

44. 25'

Holt picks out Pilkington on the left who then slips in Garrido into the box but the full back drags his effort wide of the post.

45. 25'

Holt picks out Pilkington on the left who then slips in Garrido into the box but the full back drags his effort wide of the post.

46. 26'

That was Norwich's best move of the match there.

47. 27'

Giggs looks to find Hernandez but he gives the ball away. Not for the first time today.

48. 27'

United have struggled to really get into their groove as Valencia sends in a poor ball from the right that goes out for a goal kick.

49. 29'

Smalling gives away the ball in a dangerous position. Johnson sends in an effort at goal but it is blocked and bounces clear.

50. 30'

Rafael's poorly-placed pass bounces out for a throw. It has not been a classic this...

51. 31'

Tettey, conscious that Norwich are showing little urgency with their passing, fires in a shot from long distance but it is straight at Lindergaard.

52. 33'

Valencia does some good work down the right before the move soon stalls.

53. 35'

Neither side are showing much urgency in their play at the minute.

54. 35'

This game has got 0-0 written all over it. I have a feeling Sir Alex will have a few words to say at half-time and United will come back out a different side though.

55. 37'

Rafael sends in a ball from the right but it lands straight into Ruddy's arms.

56. 38'

Some nice work by Snodgrass down the right before the winger tries to pick out Holt in the middle. Smalling does well to scramble the ball away.

57. 39'

That was the best piece of action we have seen for some time.

58. 40'

It looks like United have barely broken a sweat.

59. 40'

A real chance for United as Giggs picks out Van Persie with a great ball into the box but the Dutchman proceeds to miskick the ball and it bounces out for a goal kick. A let-off for Norwich.

60. 41'

Van Persie was in an awkward position to receive the ball to be fair to him.

61. 42'

Valencia does well to win the corner off Garrido.

62. 42'

The resulting corner falls to Young at the edge of the box. He fires in an effort at goal but Ruddy does superbly to tip round the post.

63. 43'

Van Persie sends in a corner that Ruddy nearly fumbles. He does well to recover and smother the ball though.

64. 44'

United have really upped their game in these last few minutes. Sadly for them they are doing it just as half-time is approaching.

65. 45'

Van Persie goes in late on Turner to concede the free-kick. No card given.

66. 45'

Rafael breaks from right back position but his searching ball towards Young is cut out by Turner.

67. 45'

And there goes the half-time whistle...

68. 45'

About time too. Not the greatest 45 minutes of football. Neither side showing too much urgency in their play but United produced their best spell of the half in its closing moments, with Young bringing out a fantastic stop from Ruddy.

69. 45'

Norwich won't be complaining though. Let's hope the next 45 minutes are a major improvement.

70. 45'

Tonight's hosts have conceded just once in their last four league games. Can they keep out United?

71. 46'

United kick off this second half. Neither team make any changes.

72. 46'

Valencia sends in a delivery from the right after some nice play from the away team but Ruddy does well to grab hold of the ball.

73. 47'

Van Persie is played in by Young and brings the ball down before eventually firing an effort at goal. Ruddy makes a comfortable save. The Dutchman had Hernandez waiting in the middle of the box, perhaps he made the wrong choice.

74. 48'

Ferguson obviously had some words to say at half time to his team, as they have come out of the dressing room looking a much better proposition.

75. 50'

Snodgrass does well to dispossess Evra before winning a free-kick off the left back.

76. 50'

    A chance here for Norwich...

77. 51'

Snodgrass sends in a dangerous ball that causes Lindergaard and his defence problems. They manage to clear it however.

78. 51'

Garrido does well to bring an end to a United move with a good interception.

79. 52'

The game is looking far more open since the restart.

80. 52'

Ruddy does well as he comes out of his goal to clear a long ball played over the top, just as Hernandez was ready to pounce.

81. 53'

A nice period of possession for the home side at the moment.

82. 54'

Garrido sends in a ball from the left, after some nice play from Hoolahan and Pilkington, but he fails to pick out Holt.

83. 55'

Rafael brings down Pilkington for the free-kick.

84. 55'

United are able to head the set piece clear.

85. 56'

Pilkington has been causing problems for Rafael all night so far.

86. 56'

Pilkington beats Rafael once again however his cross is a little overhit.

87. 58'

Norwich are seeing a lot more of the ball this half. But still not creating too much with it.

88. 59'

Valencia sends in a ball to Young but Norwich are able to deal with it.

89. 59'

Rafael does well as he comes forward and beats a man before firing an effort in at goal, however it is blocked by a defender and bounces clear.

90. 60'

    <img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL FOR NORWICH. PILKINGTON.</b>

91. 60'

A fantastic goal from Norwich as Garrido sends in a great ball from the left and Pilkington rises highest to head home past Lindergaard. Superb header from the Norwich man.

92. 61'

Pilkington scores against his old side. He really deserves it too as he has been Norwich's best player.

93. 62'

Pilkington again causing United problems as he does well on the left wing before firing a dangerous ball across the face of goal. The away side survive it.

94. 62'

Giggs tries to create something for United but he overhits a pass and it runs out for a goal kick.

95. 64'

United are going to have to come out and really play now if they want to get back into this game.

96. 65'

Norwich are still sticking to their game plan, playing the ball around in United's half.

97. 66'

Young slips at the wrong moment and United lose possession just as they were starting to create something.

98. 67'

The away side have really looked short of ideas in the final third.

99. 67'

Scholes is getting warmed up now. United need his range of passing to unlock the Norwich defence.

100. 68'

Giggs tries to send a delivery into the box but it was tame and Norwich clear it with ease.

101. 69'

Valencia does well to win a corner off Garrido.

102. 69'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Scholes comes on for Valencia.

103. 69'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> And Welbeck is on for Hernandez.

104. 70'

Not a great game from the pair.

105. 70'

First Rafael and then Young fire in efforts at goal but both are blocked and Ruddy claims the ball.

106. 72'

Snodgrass does well to dispossess Evra before beating Scholes but he overhits his touch and the ball runs off for a throw.

107. 73'

Giggs tries to slot in Evra but Turner does well to intercept at a vital moment.

108. 74'

Rafael brings down Pilkington once again for a free-kick.

109. 74'

Snodgrass lofts a ball into the United box. Johnson catches the away side's defence sleeping but the angle is too tight to hit the target with his shot.

110. 75'

United come close through Welbeck as he heads Young's cross just wide of the post, via a deflection.

111. 76'

Welbeck again comes close with his head but this time he fails to get any real power on it and it falls straight to Ruddy.

112. 77'

Turner made a great last-ditch tackle leading up to that chance. He has had a great game for Norwich tonight.

113. 78'

It's all United now, with Norwich putting ten men behind the ball.

114. 79'

Young just fails to bring a ball down in the box and Norwich get it clear.

115. 80'

Bassong gets his head to a dangerous Giggs delivery.

116. 81'

It's Whittaker this time with a great defensive header to deny Giggs at the far post, following Young's delivery.

117. 81'

Holt gets the resulting corner clear at the near post with the half volley.

118. 82'

Whittaker again heads clear a Young delivery.

119. 82'

Norwich are defending for their lives at the minute.

120. 82'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Morison and Howson come on for Holt and Hoolahan.

121. 82'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Anderson comes on for Ferdinand for United.

122. 85'

United with all the ball now but really struggling to create.

123. 85'

A similar situation to the Arsenal game at Carrow Road a few weeks ago.

124. 86'

Young sends in another ball from the right but Welbeck can only head wide.

125. 86'

Norwich have been very well organised at the back today. You have to give them major credit for that.

126. 86'

Young with another ball in from the right but this time Ruddy gets to it.

127. 87'

Howson with a cross-cum-shot that fizzes across the face of the goal for Norwich.

128. 87'

A rare attack in these closing moments for the home side.

129. 88'

Ruddy has been a commanding figure in goal for Norwich too. He made that outstanding save in the first half to deny Young remember.

130. 89'

The keeper again is first to a United delivery.

131. 89'

Unbelievable stuff. Norwich break after Carrick has his effort blocked. Pilkington plays in Howson on goal but the sub can only drag his effort well wide.

132. 90'

That really should have been game over for United there.

133. 90'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Elliott Bennett comes on for Snodgrass.

134. 90'

Four minutes of injury time to be played...

135. 90'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Rafael is shown the yellow card for dissent. First booking of the game.

136. 90'

Norwich are frustrating United at the moment, keeping the ball by the corner flag.

137. 90'

Ruddy makes a tremendous save to deny a Bassong header that seemed destined for the back of the net.

138. 90'

Smalling with a header this time but it fails to trouble the Norwich goal.

139. 90'

Time must be up now surely...

140. 90'

Superb from Ruddy again. He makes a great save to deny a long-distance effort from Rafael before reacting well to get to the ball first ahead of the incoming Scholes.

141. 90'

And there goes the final whistle. It's all over...

142. 90'

A superb win for Norwich and well deserved. Pilkington capped off a great performance with the winning goal, while Norwich defended brilliantly and Ruddy was unbeatable in goal. United saw a lot of possession but failed to create many real chances. Not their finest display.

143. 90'

That's it for tonight then but you can join us tomorrow for live commentary of Fulham v Sunderland. See you then.
