2. With Manchester United drawing 1-1 with Manchester City earlier today, Arsenal can go five points clear at the top with a win.

3. But Newcastle a formidable at St James an have title aspirations of their own.

   The Gunners get the game underway.

   Pires cuts through the midfield but Bramble steps out from the back to make the tackle.

   Solano latches onto a cross-field ball. The Peruvian sets himself for the cross but can't beat the first man - Cole.

   Pires cuts in from the left but his pull-back only find Robert, who gallops down the wing....

   ....Robert whips the ball nito the box for Shearer. The striker battles with Campbell and just manages to get his studs to the ball.....

   .....the ball trickles towards the bottom corner and Seaman scrambles across his goal to turn it around the post.

    O'Brien ducks under a cross and Given makes a mess of collecting it, but gathers at the second attempt.

    Bellamy races down the wing. Robert crosses from the left for Shearer. The striker tumbles to the ground with Campbell and the ref blows for a foul against Shearer.

    Robert angles the ball through the defence for Bellamy, who is caught offside.

13. 8'

    Henry collides with Hughes and the French striker moans to the ref about something.

14. 9'

    The St James crowd are settling down after a fast paced start to the game.

    Henry holds off Solano and wins a corner for the Gunners.

    Henry takes it. Vieria gets his head to the ball and powers it towards goal....

    ....Solano is on the line and blocks the shot up onto the bar and out into the box. Pires heads the bouncing ball over the bar from about one-yard.

    Solano charges down the right and chips the ball into the box for Shearer, who volleys a shot straight at Seaman.

    Campbell and Shearer take another tumble in the box as they challenge for the ball. That one looked like a penalty but the ref says no.

    Seaman puts his goalkick straight out of play to the cheers of the Newcastle fans.

    Vieira is caught offside. Newcastle build form the back and work the ball to Solano on the right.

    The winger crosses the ball to Dyer, who finds himself unmarked in the box and offside.

    Arsenal work the ball along the edge of the Magpies' area. Wiltord, Vieira to Bergkamp - who shoots wildly wide.

24. 19'

    Gilberto breaks up a Newcastle attack and then launches one of his own. The Brazilian looks for Henry but plays the ball too far ahead of him.

    Wiltord plays the ball out left for Pires, who shoots sidefooted past the post from the edge of the box.

    Robert breaks down the left then cuts inside. Lauren hacks him down and the defender gets booked.

    Campbell challenges for the freekick with Shearer and has to concede a corner - which Newcastle waste.

28. 23'

    Arsenal try to pass their way through the Newcastle midfield until Bergkamp hits the deck for a soft foul against Bramble.

    Jenas hoists the ball into the corner for no apparent reason.

    Shearer slides into a challenge with Cole and the defender goes to ground clutching his ankle. The St James park crowd boo him as he has a reputation for over-acting.

    Solano tries a one-two with Shearer as Newcastle attack but the stiker's return ball is a poor one.

    Robert dances through the Arsenal midfield and then decides to take on the entire defence - but can't.

    Newcastle a claiming for a handball in the box, Arsenal are claiming Robert fouled Campbell, Shearer clatters Vieira, it all boils over, handbags follow and Shearer gets booked.

    The heat is rising at St James as Arsenal attack with Henry.

    The striker crosses from the left, Bramble sticks out a foot and Given has to head the ball over his own bar from point-blank range to prevent an own goal.

    Cole is getting booed every touch now.

    Shearer is still battling away and he shoves Keown in the back as he challenges for a high ball.

    Lauren plays the ball up to Wiltord, who drives infield and flicks the ball inot the box for Henry to chase....

    ....The striker latches onto the throughball, rounds Given and slots the ball into the net. GOAL!!!!!

    Arsenal are really putting the Newcastle defence under pressure and could score another.

    Lauren suckers in Bernard and wins a freekick to the right of the area. Bergkamp chips it in and Shearer boots the ball out for a corner after a scramble in the box.

    Wiltord drives a shot from 35-yards. Given easily claims it.

    Newcastle have come from behind countless times and they need to do it against the champions now.

    Solano delivers a poor freekick and Arsenal break with pace. Bergkamp slides the ball to the edge of the box for Pires, who has his shot saved by an onrushing Given.

    Newcastle's turn to counter-attack. Shearer finds Bellamy, who plays in Solano. The winger takes a poor touch and the move breaks down.

    Jenas and Bellamy play a one-two on the edge of the box. Jenas is crowded out by defenders but wins a corner.

    Bramble makes a great tackle on Henry, then seems to forget he is playing football and dawdles along the touchline and boots the ball into Cole.

    Robert loses the ball in midfield. Henry comes forward and passes to Gilberto, who spoons a long-range shot over the bar......and stadium probably.

    That's the last action of the half as the ref blows for the break.

50. Arsenal 1-0 up and dominating play by the end of the half. Newcastle started well and had a couple of penalty claims turned down, but they still need a goal.

    Newcastle get the second-half underway and Speed has replaced Solano.

    Speed jumps for a header and is sandwiched on the edge of the box by Campbell and Cole as the Gunners clear their lines.

    Bernard slips as he goes to cross, Lauren stands on his ankle and the defender is going to need treatment.

    Bernard comes back on as Bellamy fouls Campbell.

    Jenas plays himself into trouble and Pires blocks his clearence. Henry picks the ball up on the edge of the box but can't get it under control.

    Keown concedes a corner. Robert takes it....

    ...but its a poor one. Newcastle keep Arsenal under pressure and Bellamy blast over the bar from 20-yards.

    Wiltord chinks down the right and cuts into the box. He leaves Bernard for dead and hits a shot, which Given parries.

    Robert decides to go on another run and drives at the Gunners defence. The ball takes a deflection off Keown and drops to Robert on the edge of the box.....

    ...The Frenchman hits a low left foot shot that curls around Seaman and into the corner of the net. GOAL!!!

    1-1 and game on at St James. Robert hacks down Lauren and the goalscorer gets booked.

    Newcastle have renewed belief and are putting the Gunners under pressure as St James errupts.

    Arsenal win a freekick. Bergkamp goes to take it quickly and boots the ball into Robert, who has not retreated 10-yards.

    The Fenchman has just been booked, the ref reaches for his pocket to show him anohter yellow card, followed by red. He's off.

    That was a harsh decision, Newcastle are up against it now.

66. 60'

    Newcastle are defending in numbers now. Bramble chips a longball to Shearer and he is knocked to the floor by Campbell.

    O'Brien makes an error in defence and Henry looks to play Bergkamp in. O'Brien recovers to make the interception.

    Bellamy backs Cole into the box and then runs at the defender. He wins a corner.

    nothing comes form the set piece and its Arsenal on the attack.....

    Henry sprints down the left and cuts the ball back for Wiltord on the right. Wiltord sets up Bergamp and O'Brien lunges in to block the shot - great defending.

    Dyer sprints round Campbell but the ball goes out of play and it's a goalkick.

    Bellamy, who has been at the heart of things since Robert got sent off, crosses from the right but no Newcastle player attacks the ball.

    The fans are booing every Arsenal player now, but Henry gets a cheer as he makes a mistake.

    Given takes his time over a goalkick to let his teammates get a breather.

75. 69'

    Newcastle win a throw deep in Arsenal's half but the ball ends up back with Given.

76. 70'

    Shearer and Campbell do battle once more and this time it's Shearer who ends up on his backside.

    The game is going through a scrappy period and that will suit ten-man Newcastle fine.

    Newcastle win another throw deep in Arsenal's half. Once again the ball ends up with Given, who hoofs it upfield to where they started but now all the Magpies players have retreated.

    Dyer plays a one-two with Speed but the return ball is poor and Newcastle's attack breaks down.

    Newcastle are working the left touchline with Bernard and Dyer but they can't open up the Arsenal defence.

    Cole finds space for a cross. Pires comes in at the back post but heads over the bar.

    Arsenal make a change. Jeffers, who has just been called into the England squad, replaces Bergkamp - who is booed as he leaves the pitch.

    Shearer gets the ball on the right. He looks up to make the cross but there is nobody in the box. Speed eventually arrives but the ball doesn't.

    Arsenal win a corner.

    Pires lofts the ball into the box. Campbell knocks the ball down to Vieira, who shoots on the turn.........

    ...Given gets his body behind the ball and Newcastle hang on.

    Given mops up at the back but everytime the ball is cleared it keeps coming straight back at the Newcastle defence.

    Bellamy and Pires clash and have words. The ref calls the duo over........

    .....its just a telling off.

    Arsenal make another change as Parlour replaces Gilberto and Van Bronckhorst replaces Wiltord.

    Bellamy breaks with pace. Speed can't find the decisive pass to cut through the Arsenal defence and the ball goes back to the defence.

    Cole battles with Hughes. Cole gets frustrated, clatters into the defender from behind and gets booked.

    Arsenal are camped in Newcastle's half. Parlour whips a dangerous cross into the box but there is nobody attacking the ball.

    The massed Newcastle defence are frustrating Arsenal and Vieira hits a 30-yard shot well wide.

    Newcastle run down the clock with a substitution. Ameobi replaces Shearer.

    Bellamy runs at Cole. He hits a shot that loops up off the defender and looks to be dropping under the crossbar....

    ...Seaman back pedals and just manages to palm the ball over the bar.

    The extra work rate is taking its toll on ten-man Newcastle as Dyer goes down with cramp.

    That's it! The final whistle goes and Newcastle have hung on for a draw.

100. Arsenal miss the chance to stretch their lead at the top of the Premiership and, with Manchester United also drawing, it's as you were in the title race.
