Manchester United – Everton

Good afternoon, and welcome to our live coverage of the second FA Cup semi-final of the weekend. Everton take on Manchester United at Wembley Stadium this afternoon, and the first real surprise is Alex Ferguson's teamsheet. Fabio Da Silva, Rafael, Darron Gibson, Danny Welbeck and Federico Macheda all have a place in the starting XI.

Oh, and Ben Foster starts in goal for United.

The teams are in the tunnel, just about to come out onto the pitch.

And here they come, out onto the pitch, which is bathed in blazing sunshine.

It's Everton to kick off, and away we go.

Leon Osman chests the ball down in the D, but his shot loops over the bar.

The afro-ed figure of Fellaini wins a free kick on the right on the halfway line.

The ball is lofted into the area, but United win the ball and work it away.

Fellaini with some aggressive tackling down the left, and Everton are putting some good early pressure on the young United team.

Macheda chests the ball down just outside the Everton area and fires a hard, low shot in, but it runs wide.

Ji-Sung Park scythes down Pienaar as he looks to break down the left, and the ref has a quiet word.

Foster looks to get Macheda away with a long kick, but the striker can't control the ball.

Pienaar cuts inside down the left, and slides a ball across the edge of the area, but there's no blue shirt to strike it.

Everton work the ball well down the left, and Leighton Baines drives into the box down the left, but he can't quite control the ball and it runs out for a goal kick.

Tough tackling from both sides in midfield, but United come away with the ball.

Fellaini plays an excellent through ball behind the United defence, but sadly it's Phil Neville bombing on, and he slips onto his behind as he scoops the ball high over the bar. Poor job, Phil.

Nice one-twos from Welbeck and Macheda work the ball to Carlos Tevez, but he can't quite get his foot round the ball, and he fires wide.

The United youngsters, particularly Macheda, have made lively starts here.

Just as yesterday, the pitch looks very soft, and is cutting up a great deal.

Everton wriggle the ball down into the left channel, and Baines whips the ball into the six-yard box, but it's too low, and United clear.

Tevez is scurrying after every loose ball like an overgrown puppy.

Fellaini turns on the corner of the box and crosses, but Ferdinand cuts it out.

Nice build-up from Everton, but Baines gives it away in the end, ruining a slick move from their own half.

United are struggling to get the ball forward at the moment, and the ball is worked back to Foster, but Saha closes on him as he tries to beat the Striker, and Saha is inches away from stealing the ball from the young keeper and firing into an empty net!

United take a short corner, but it is headed away.

Rafael fires in a swinging cross, which takes a deflection off Welbeck and then Lescott, and the ball skips about an inch wide of Howard's post! Let-off for Everton there.

United applying a little pressure now, and Tevez and Anderson combine to work the ball to Welbeck, but he fluffs his lines and falls over the ball 12 yards out.

Everton looking to calm things down a bit and take the sting out of the game, as United enjoy a good period.

Everton finally get the ball forward, and Baines is hauled down by Rafael on the very edge of the United box. Yellow for Rafael, but was very close to a penalty...

Cahill and Fellaini lurk menacingly in the six yard box.

But Pienaar's cross is low, and is put out for a corner.

Baines lofts it in, but it's inches too high for Fellaini.

A masssive hoof clear from Tim Howard takes the ball deep into United territory.

Park drives in a low cross, that is collected by Tevez on the Everton penalty spot, but he can't control the ball, and it runs out.

The United front men are playing very high up the pitch and putting a lot of effort into harrying the blue backline.

Neat interplay from Tevez and a number of United players before the ball is looped into the Everton box, but Welbeck shunts Fellaini in the back, and it's a free kick.

Osman looking for a foul in the United D, claiming a clattering by Vidic, but Mike Riley is having none of it.

Poor old Pienaar. He's scythed down roughly again, this time by Tevez.

Tevez attempts to rifle in a shot from all of 35 yards, but it's deflected away.

Paul Scholes is doing some warming up down on the touchline.

Pienaar goes down in the area as he's shoulder to shoulder with Rafael, and there is a HUGE shout from the Everton fans, but Riley is well placed and says he's not interested.

Tevez tries to find Macheda with a through ball, but the 17-year-old misreads it.

Pienaar and Rafael are enjoying a good old manly tussle down on the left touchline.

Macheda slips the ball behind the Everton defence for Welbeck, and he is forced to shoot from a tight angle with his weaker left foot, but he spoons the ball into Row Z.

Welbeck looks really rather uncomfortable playing down the left, and is very clearly a one-footed player.

Neville is lining up a long throw into the box.

Fellaini tussles with Vidic for it, but the Serb wins out, and the ball is away.

Park tries to cross from the right channel, where he is looking industrious, but the ball is blocked.

Welbeck and Macheda combine again on the edge of the box, but Jagielka slides in to snatch the ball.

Fellaini is covering a lot of ground, and really putting himself about today.

There will be just one added minute at the end of this half.

And the ref blows up, to bring an end to an evenly balanced half (of a game which could probably do with a goal).

And out come the teams for the second half. United to kick off.

Both sides looking very energentic as the half begins, and Pienaar looks to drive forward, but is dispossessed.

Saha tries to break into the United area, but a solid tackle from Rafael puts paid to that idea.

Vidic is clutching his side, and looking pained, but it doesn't appear to be anything serious.

Lescott launches the ball to Fellaini, who gathers the ball well on his chest, under considerable 'pressure' from Ferdinand, but astonishingly Mike Riley gives the foul AGAINST the Belgian.

Pienaar and Fellaini link well down the left, but they get a little 'over-tricky' and wind up losing the ball.

Everton fans roaring their boys on, as they win a throw on the right. Hibbert crosses it in, but Vidic heads solidly away.

Tevez and Neville with some very tough tackling back and forth their, but it's all nice clean fun.

Cahill lets fly from 30 yards with a fierce shot, which bounces just in front of Foster, but the keeper dives to his right and manages to push it away.

Now a high ball from the left is looped in, but Foster gathers in his own goalmouth.

The Everton fans are in good voice now, obviously geed up by Cahill's vicious shot on goal and general pressure over the past five minutes or so.

Park scurries through the middle, and wins a free kick after a foul by Baines. Vidic comes up for it.

Anderson takes, but it's well overhit, and sails high over the bar. He tries to blame the pitch.

Everton drive up the left, and Fellaini heads the ball down into the middle, but there's no-one there to pick it up.

Everton are enjoying their best spell of the match so far, and United look a little squeezed.

Great sweeping move from box to box by Everton, and it's swung in towards Fellaini, but he can't quite get his head on it.

Fabio looks hurt and sits down off the pitch. United down to 10 men for the moment.

Tevez streaks away, but can't outstrip Jagielka, and Everton bring it away.

Park cuts in from the right onto his left boot, and shoots low and hard from 12 yards. It flashes inches wide.

Rafael goes down softly, but there was contact from Fellaini on the corner of the Everton box. Vidic is up again.

Gibson swings it to the back post, and Vidic heads it back hard. Too hard, in fact, and Everton clear.

Scholes is imminent for Manchester United, apparently.

Gibson thrashes in a drive from 25 yards towards Howard's top corner, and the American has to tip it round for a corner.

Scholes is on for Park.

Welbeck goes down in a tussle with Jagielka and United scream for a penalty. Riley says no. Fergie is apoplectic, screaming and shouting on the touchline.

Louis Saha goes off and is replaced by 18-year-old Jack Rodwell. Cahill moves up front with Fellaini, and Rodwell replaces the Australian in midfield.

Vidic's boot swings up near Fellaini's afro, and the Belgian wins a free kick.

It's launched into the box, but headed clear. Then the ball is played back in and Leon Osman thinks he's away, but he's adjudged to have committed a foul and United are awarded a free kick.

Everton's cross is blocked and they have a corner.

Terrible corner by Hibbert, much too low, and it's cleared easily.

Anderson goes on a marauding run on the right and drives past four players into the box, but he skews his shot to the right of the goal.

Evra moves into the left channel and wins a United corner.

Gibson swings it in nicely, and Vidic climbs to head, but it deflects off Lescott for another corner.

This time it's not so good, though, and Everton win possession.

United playing the ball nicely about, but Everton matching them with some tough tackling.

Hibbert and Macheda are lying side by side having treatment. Hibbert's taken a knock and Macheda has cramp, so that's nice, isn't it?

Wellbeck and Tevez work the ball into the box, and it's played to Macheda eight yards out, but he's flagged offside - very, very late flag, though...

Wellbeck drives forward on the left, cuts in on the right, and curls the ball towards the top corner, but it's a foot or so over. Good effort, though.

Fellaini gets a yellow card for a swinging arm while jumping for the ball with Ferdinand. Rio took a fist to the face for his troubles.

Manchester United win a corner on the left.

Swung in, Howard gets a weak punch on it, and Macheda swings at the bouncing ball, but he scuffs it and it loops up and into Howard's arms.

Berbatov is warming up with five minutes remaining.

Cahill is clattered by Rafael in the centre circle, and Everton get a free kick.

Everton have a long throw on the left. Neville winds it up...

It's towards Fellaini, who heads to down to Lescott, but his volley is blocked. Corner.

Lescott flies in for the header, but pressure from Ferdinand forces him to head behind.

Evra shoves over Pienaar on the right, and Everton have a free kick.

They swing it in and Fellaini collides with Foster at the far post. Riley gives the keeper a free kick.

There will be three minutes added on.

It's getting pretty cagey out there. Neither team wants to make a fatal mistake.

And there is the ref's whistle. Don't go away, I'll be sitting here typing till my fingers wear down to little stumps.

Berbatov is on, replacing Macheda.

United pour forward up the right wing, and a cross by Gibson is blocked. Corner.

It's headed away and Pienaar races away, but he's on his own against three United players. Nonetheless, Paul Scholes feels the need to do a 'Paul Scholes' tackle, and is booked for it.

Cahill drives into the area and shoots low and hard from an angle, but Foster blocks well. Good effort.

United camping on the edge of the Everton box, but can't seem to break through the blue defence.

Fellaini tries to turn and shoot, but he's blocked by Vidic.

Scholes launches a fabulous 50 yard ball from his own half, but Welbeck is through, but just about half a yard offside. Almost brilliant.

United drive down the left, but the ball is back to Vidic and his pass is cut out.

Anderson plays the ball wide to Berbatov, who slides a great ball across the box for Welbeck who... swings his leg at fresh air. Total miss.

Tevez shoots from about 40 yards. Very high, very wide and not very handsome.

Everton swing a series of crosses into the United box, but the red defence stand strong and head clear.

Fellaini is finally coming off. He's replaced by 20-year-old James Vaughn.

Riley gives the softest foul in the history of the game to Scholes and Cahill tickles him on the halfway line.

Baines pushes down the left and wins a corner.

In it comes, high, and Lescott heads it back. Foster gathers.

And there is the ref's whistle for the end of the first period.

And we're off in the final period of play.

Everton drive into the left channel and Baines puts a brilliant cross in. James Vaughn is in acres of space, but he shanks his shot from 12 yards. It deflects off Vidic, but Riley gives a goal kick.

The ball is fired across the United box, but again Everton can't quite get anyone on the end of it. United hanging on here.

United play the ball all the way back from the Everton box to Foster.

Cahill clips Vidic as he turns him and races away, but Riley calls him back for a foul. Cahill can't believe it, and his dissent earns him a yellow.

Everton certainly looking the strongest here, and their fans are in fine voice.

Some very, very long balls being played by both sides here.

Jagielka swings it in, but once again Vidic is there. He's been very strong today.

Now it's United's turn to push on but the two banks of blue stand firm, and United can't find a way through.

Vidic has been awarded man of the match, and that seems pretty fair to me.

United push up the left and win a corner.

Evra takes, flicked on by an Everton head, and it's another corner.

Cahill heads clear, and Evra pushes into the left channel, but Osman pushes him wide, and it's a goal kick.

Foster is sold short on a back pass and has to clear against Osman - it almost deflects in!

Crunching tackle by Rodwell as he brings down Tevez.

Rodwell sprays the ball wide on the right to Leon Osman, who chases gamely, considering he's been running solidly for 120 minutes on the giant Wembley pitch.

And that's it. We will have penalties to decide who will face Chelsea in the 2009 FA Cup final.

And the penalties will be taken in front of the Manchester United end.

And it's Tim Cahill to take the first pen.

And he... MISSES

He shoots high over the bar to the right.
