Manchester United – Arsenal

1. Good afternoon all and welcome to live coverage of Manchester United's clash with Arsenal.

2. The home side are unchanged from their defeat of Spurs on Monday - its already looking like a settled side.

3. Arsenal hand Francis Coquelin his Premier League debut - quite some ask - while Bacary Sagna is struck down with a virus. Jenkinson and Traore are full backs. Arshavin starts.

4. Some interesting names on Arsenal's bench: Fabianski, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Chamakh, Lansbury, Miquel, Ozyakup, Sunu. Oguzhan Ozyakup doesn't even have his own Wikipedia page.

5. 1'

   <b>KICK OFF</b>

6. 1'

Welbeck charges down a Szczesny clearance as United lay down a marker early on.

7. 2'

De Gea spreading balls around as Man Utd spray it along their backline.

8. 3'

First break from United as Nani slots in Smalling and his cutback is fired wide by Cleverley, who was on the stretch.

9. 4'

Powerful effort on target from Rooney but Szczesny is right behind it.

10. 5'

Promising move from Arsenal as Arshavin finds Traore but Jones nods his cross clear.

11. 6'

Arshavin tries to release Van Persie, who had run beyond Evans, but the defender cuts the pass off.

12. 7'

Welbeck bursts through the middle and is found by Young but his left foot effort lacks conviction and spirals wide.

13. 8'

Rooney feeds Young nicely but he fails to lay it off before Djourou closes him down.

14. 9'

Walcott's first involvement is poor, offering up the ball to Evra.

15. 10'

Coquelin does well to get in front of Young as he tried to latch onto a neat pass from Welbeck.

16. 11'

A reasonable start from Arsenal. Not looking water tight but bright enough going forward.

17. 12'

Nani rattles a ball into the area and Welbeck nods over under pressure from Koscielny.

18. 13'

Arsenal inviting pressure on themselves by giving possession away cheaply.

19. 15'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> A yellow for Arshavin as he left his studs in on Jones. A painful one for the defender.

20. 16'

Nani teases Arshavin before skipping round him and winning a corner.

21. 17'

Good counter attack from Arsenal and a lovely cross from Van Persie but only Walcott was in the box and he attacked the near post.

22. 18'

Rosicky has a pop from distance, perhaps wanting to test De Gea's confidence, but it is deflected for a corner.

23. 19'

Cleverley has some blood running from a cut near his eye after being caught by Rosicky's elbow. Unintentional.

24. 20'

Good defending from Traore - matching Nani for pace after Smalling pass round the back.

25. 21'

Some space for Walcott to take Evans on but he tries a clip across the face and Van Persie was nowhere near it.

26. 21'

Acres of space for Evra run into as Walcott went AWOL but Traore clears.

27. 22'

    <img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Welbeck!

28. 22'

A cute dink over the top from Anderson and Welbeck fights off Djourou to nod past Szczesny. Such a simple goal. Awful defending.

29. 23'

A shake of the head from Wenger. That was terrible from Djourou. Clever from Anderson and good from Welbeck.

30. 24'

    That could open the floodgates.

31. 24'

A great chance for Smalling to make it 2-0 as Rooney finds him, he turns outside Traore but pulls his shot well wide.

32. 25'

    <b>ARSENAL PENALTY</b>

33. 26'

A tug from Evans as Walcott got in front of him inside the area and the Gunners have a great chance to level.

34. 27'

Saved by De Gea! Terrible penalty.

35. 28'

A huge confidence boost for De Gea but Van Persie's effort was woeful - lacking in power and too close to the keeper. Arsenal's big chance has gone.

36. 28'

    <img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Young! What a goal!

37. 28'

What a cruel game it can be - Young picks up Traore's clearance and curls a superb shot into the top corner. Game over.

38. 29'

Wow, what a minute of football!

39. 30'

Smashing double save from De Gea as he keeps out Arshavin''s drive and then Van Persie's follow up. And Old Trafford sings his name.

40. 31'

Great ball to the back post from Rooney as Arsenal are stretched again but Welbeck is stretching and can't get it on target.

41. 32'

Already 13 attempts on target in the match.

42. 32'

Cleverley gets in behind this time but Koscielny gets a foot on his pull back.

43. 33'

Walcott, the penalty aside, has been very disappointing.

44. 34'

"Sacked in the morning," United's fans sing.

45. 35'

Welbeck has pulled up - his hamstring has gone. Poor lad.

46. 36'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Hernandez comes on for Welbeck, who limps down the tunnel.

47. 37'

Just before Welbeck's hammy went, Arshavin went in late on Young and should have picked up a second yellow. Webb let play run on and didn't come back and book him.

48. 38'

Might that substitution disrupt Man Utd's flow a little?

49. 39'

Nani bends a free kick two yards over the bar Djourou fouled Young.

50. 40'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Jenkinson is lucky not to be walking after bringing down Young who was about to go in on goal. Perhaps the cover from Koscielny saved him.

51. 41'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Rooney floats the free kick into the top corner!

52. 41'

Szczesny got a hand to it but couldn't keep it out and this could get ugly very quickly for Arsenal.

53. 42'

Ramsey has a chance to score immediately but loses his footing in the box.

54. 43'

    Szczesny claims Anderson's corner.

55. 44'

A nightmare half for Wenger and perhaps it all hinged on that penalty miss. Score that, get back to 1-1 and it might have inspired the Gunners on.

56. 45'

Rooney shoots from the half way line after spotting Szczesny off his line. Good effort too - the keeper catches it under his bar.

57. 45'

    <img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Walcott!

58. 45'

A slice of hope for Arsenal as Rosicky finds Walcott and his shot goes through De Gea's legs.

59. 45'

<b>HALF TIME</b> A dominant half from United and nothing but pain for Arsenal. It could have been 1-1 after Arsenal were awarded a penalty but within a minute it was 2-0. Walcott's goal has given the Gunners a ray of hope though.

60. <img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2011/0828/dannywelbeckcelebmanutdvarsenal20110828_275x155.jpg"><br> Danny Welbeck celebrates his opener.

61. <img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2011/0828/arsenewengerbannermanutdvarsenal20110828_275x155.jpg"><br> I wonder if they still trust in him after that first half?

62. Hard to know what Wenger can do to turn things around in the second half given the lack of resources he's faced with. His side were so open in that half it was untrue.

63. 46'

    We begin again.....

64. 47'

A decent start to the half from Arsenal, but no cutting edge yet.

65. 48'

But as is the way, United create the first opportunity, Young testing Szczesny with a low shot then clipping thr rebound wide of goal.

66. 49'

Young has taken a blow on the knee after Jenkinson fell over and caught him.

67. 50'

Nani bursts beyond Traore but tries an audacious chip when he had numbers in support. Greedy.

68. 51'

Walcott takes a blow to head as the Arsenal fans get behind their team.

69. 52'

Rooney's first time cross is cut out by Djourou after good work from Nani.

70. 53'

Rosicky clips a ball into Van Persie and his volley is well saved by De Gea. He could have brought it down as he had plenty of time.

71. 54'

Still a ridiculously open game. Expect more goals.

72. 55'

What a chance for Arshavin. He is found by Ramsey, gets beyond Jones and gets into the area before dragging a shot wide from nine yards. Got a nick too so its a corner.

73. 56'

Better from Arsenal but they have to take these chances.

74. 57'

Cracking one-two with Hernandez and Cleverley puts the England midfielder through but his effort lacks pace and Szczesny saves.

75. 58'

The away contingent must have been singing "We love you Arsenal," for about 15 minutes straight now.

76. 59'

Nani gets to the byline and centres but Djourou clears.

77. 60'

Hernandez wastes a good chance to cross from inside the area. United growing large again as Young goes close before squaring for Nani who misses his kick.

78. 62'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Coquelin goes off and Oxlade-Chamberlain is on for his Premier League debut.

79. 63'

Man Utd enjoying 61% possession in the second half.

80. 63'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Djourou hauls Rooney down as he went for a Hernandez ball and is booked.

81. 64'

    <img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Rooney!

82. 64'

A free kick masterclass from Rooney, who gives Szczesny the eyes, then drills it in the opposite corner. Superb.

83. 65'

Rooney is now Man Utd's top scorer in the Premier League era.

84. 67'

    <img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Nani!

85. 67'

It's a battering. So much room for Rooney to pick out Nani, played onside by Traore, and he dinks it over the keeper. Arsenal a shambles at the back.

86. 68'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Nani trots off after scoring and Ji-Sung Park is on. Giggs also comes on in place of Anderson.

87. 69'

If United wanted to they could probably hit seven or eight.

88. 70'

Rooney has nearly scored the goal of the weekend - a chip from 30 yards that dips over Szczesny and cannons back off the post. Supreme.

89. 70'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Park gets in on the act!

90. 70'

Park collects the ball inside the area and has all the time in the world to pick his spot past Szczesny. This is just awful for Arsenal.

91. 71'

This is hugely embarrassing for Wenger. How long can Arsenal afford this to go on?

92. 72'

Koscielny gets a free header but can't find the target.

93. 73'

Arsenal's fans have their heads in their hands in the stands. This is a mortifying day for their club.

94. 74'

    <img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Van Persie!

95. 74'

Jenkinson does well to get down the right and cross, Jones clears but Jenkinson nods it back in and RVP smashes it home from seven yards.

96. 75'

Arshavin wants a penalty for falling over, basically.

97. 76'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/red_card.jpg" height="15"> Another yellow for Jenkinson after bumping Chicarito bearing down on goal and the youngster walks.

98. 78'

This time Rooney's free kick falls the wrong side of the post.

99. 80'

<b>MAN UTD PENALTY</b> Theo clips Evra and this could be seven.

100. 81'

     <img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Rooney hat-trick!

101. 81'

Szczesny goes the wrong way and Rooney has a treble. Misery upon misery for Arsenal.

102. 84'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Double change for Arsenal as Van Persie and Walcott depart for Chamakh and Lansbury.

103. 85'

Giggs' ball over the top finds Young offside.

104. 86'

Ramsey's run to the edge of the box ends with a shot that arcs narrowly past the post.

105. 87'

Twitter reckons the last time Arsenal conceded seven was in 1927.

106. 88'

Nearly eight as Hernandez fails to connect with Smalling's cross

107. 89'

What on earth will Wenger say after this?

108. 90'

     Three minutes added...

109. 91'

Arshavin fires wide from Oxlade-Chamberlain's cross.

110. 92'

     <img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Young with a stunner!

111. 92'

Giggs runs down the left, finds young and he bends a shot into the top corner from 17 yards. Brilliant goal.

112. 93'

Park blazes over from Evra's cross! My word, it could have been nine.

113. 93'

Six without a win for Arsenal in the Premier League now. Only two wins in 14 games in total.

114. 93'

<b>FULL TIME</b> Arsenal's misery is over, Wenger shakes Fergie's hand and Rooney wanders off with the match ball. Quite simply, a rout, an embarrassment, a roasting, a hammering, a devastating day for Arsenal. What a game.
