5. Dunne and Ferdinand lead the two sides out with the pride of Manchester at stake.

6. Referee Howard Webb from South Yorkshire blows his whistle and Untied get the game underway.

7. The inevitable boos ring out from the home crowd as Ronaldo gets the ball.

8. 1'

Robinho will be hoping to get another result over Ronaldo. When the two met in a recent international it was Robinho's Brazil who came out on top with 6-2 win over Portugal.

9. 1'

Darren Fletcher wins an early encounter in the middle against Stephen Ireland - two of the most important players on the pitch.

10. 2'

Rafael starts at right back for United and will face fellow Brazilian Robinho on the left flank for City. So far the young United man is handling the pressure of his derby debut with calm efficiency.

11. 3'

Ferndinand loses possession when his cross-field Hollywood ball goes wrong.

12. 5'

Berbatov drifts into space, but is soon closed down by City.

13. 6'

City trying to keep their shape in the face of United pressure. Dangerous tactic from City. No clear openings yet, but United seeing a bit more of the ball.

14. 7'

Micah Richards and Dietmar Hamann double-team Ronaldo and manage to nick the ball of him.

15. 8'

Rooney fires in on goal from just outside the six-yard box - Hart spills the save, but it is cleared before Fletcher can get a show away. The first chance of the game.

16. 8'

Ji-Sung Park clipped a ball in from the right wing and the pass bounced and bobbled through a bunch of City defenders before it found Rooney who snatched at the shot.

17. 9'

City have been shaken into action after that close call and have finally strung some passes together, but momentum is lost when Richards loses the ball for a United throw.

18. 10'

United have dominated and as a result the crowd have been quitened. They are still singing, but not with the same volume of 5 minutes ago.

19. 11'

City have 10 men behind the ball and are letting United probe them for gaps.

20. 12'

Corner for United won by Evra on a forward run.

21. 12'

Rooney takes, but Ireland clears, only as far as Rooney who again tries to deliver. The ball reaches the opposite flank and United win another corner.

22. 12'

Ronaldo has a smile as he reacts to some banter from the fans. He was asking the fans for the ball back ahead of the corner anddd the City fans threw it to him with interest. Nearly took his head off!

23. 13'

Rubbish corner and City break and release the pressure.

24. 14'

Robinho gets his foot on the ball and tries to play - City need him to get his game on today, especially as they have been under pressure so far.

25. 15'

Vidic and Richards clash. A 50-50 ball. Richards leapt with a high foot which raked down Vidic chests - who shows the scars. Richards came off worse it seems and needs attention.

26. 16'

Vidic will, I'm sure, remember who kicked him in the chest and make things right in his own inimitable style later in the game...

27. 17'

Shaun Wright-Phillips is clipped late by Fletcher and goes to ground in some pain. It seemed a slight contact, but SWP is limping badly. Play continues.

28. 18'

A half, half chance (is that a quarter chance?) as Benjani flicks a header into the box for Vassell, who can't control, turn or indeed shoot, but it was City nearest thing to a chance so far.

29. 19'

A freekick from Rooney is well delivered, but City clear and the danger is dealt with quickly.

30. 20'

Yellow card for Rafael for throwing the ball away after fouling Robinho. In fairness the young fullback only threw the ball in the air, not away. All the same a booking was the result.

31. 21'

An exceptional save by Joe Hart denied Berbatov. He dived to his right to get a hand to the Bulgarian's well-directed header following a neat cross from the right from Park.

32. 22'

Vassell seems to be playing at right back at the moment such is the pressure from United.

33. 23'

Even when United lose control of the ball a team-mate is usually the first to the loose ball and they begin to build again. City need to get some time on the ball.

34. 24'

Benjani is getting nothing from Rio and Vidic who have marshalled him perfectly so far.

35. 25'

Evra blazed a shot over the bar - United should be in front.

36. 26'

After a neat move involving Vidic, Carrick, Berbatov and Park the ball found Ronaldo who fired on goal, it was blocked and fell to Evra who lashed his effort over the bar.

37. 27'

It feel like only a matter of time before United take the lead. Their dominance in the game is beyond dispute.

38. 27'

Good defending from Richards reduced Ronaldo options. The winger was dribbling at full pace down the left and opted to clip a hopeful ball into the box, aimed at no-one. City clear.

39. 28'

United are comfortable, but Sir Alex Ferguson will be unhappy that his side have been unable to notch a goal. And that will give Hughes some satisfaction.

40. 29'

SWP and Robinho have switched flanks in an attempt to freshen things up and perhaps throw United out of balance.

41. 30'

    City hit the post!

42. 31'

A freekick from Garrido was punched poorly by Van der Sar, it fell to Ireland whose scuffed shot was left rather than pounced upon by Richards. If the defender has just stuck his foot out he could have directed it into the net. Its a let-off for United.

43. 32'

Another City freekick. This one is in shooting range. Robinho fancies. From 35 yards out!

44. 33'

Robinho did try his luck, after a touch from Garrido, but he low strike curled away from goal and United were never at risk.

45. 34'

United break out and after a nice touch from Rooney Berbatov finds himself in range - his shot was shanked, though and City escape.

46. 35'

Just when City were getting back into the game United up the gears again.

47. 35'

Corner for Untied. Rooney takes it, and takes some stick from the City fans.

48. 36'

Evra has been a thorn in City's side. Whenever he attacks down the left City have looked in trouble; Richards has a better handle on Ronaldo than Evra!

49. 37'

Jeers from the City fans as United have yet another spell of possession in enemy territory.

50. 38'

Hamann slides a great ball to Richards while under pressure from three Untied players.

51. 39'

Fletcher and Carrick have been solid so far today, quick to the loose balls, quick to hussle Ireland and Hamann and quick to play simple balls forward and wide.

52. 40'

Robinho catches Van der Sar as he slides to get a foot on loose ball threaded through into the area from Hamann. Both players know it was 50-50 and VDS gets on with it, despite boasting stud marks down his thigh. Good move from City, one of the few.

53. 41'

1-0 Manchester United! Wayne Rooney with a tap in.

54. 41'

City just couldn't clear the ball. Five or six City defenders could only watch as Park and Carrick carved an opening on the edge of the box after a freekick was floated in. Carrick pulled wide and fired on Hart's goal. He saved well, but the parry landed in from of Rooney who tapped in from a yard.

55. 42'

It's no more than United deserve; they've played well, pressured City and are on top.

56. 43'

Benjani's strike goes wide after a neat build up from City. It was a tight angle, but a good shot. When City get into the United danger area they have put some neat passes together, but there just have not been enough of them.

57. 44'

There's a booking for Vassell. And a freekick 40 yards out.

58. 44'

Rooney plays it square to Ronaldo who passes back to Evra and United are just playing keep ball

59. 45'

Two minutes of added time to play.

60. 46'

United have eased down and are just waiting for the whistle.

61. 47'

That's the half. City 0-1 United.

62. 47'

United are ahead and deserve to be. City have offered very little. Hamann and Ireland have been tethered by Carrick and Fletcher and Hughes must change things if his side are to get back into the game. Find out if they can with the second half.

63. 47'

So Hughes is changing things for the second half. Off go Hamann and Vassell, on come Elano and Zabaleta. We are back underway.

64. 47'

Elano looks to have the bit between his teeth. As soon as he got the ball he turned and ran at United, putting the visitors on the back foot.

65. 47'

Fletcher clears a poor freekick from Garrido, but City are soon back on the ball.

66. 48'

Corner for City after some tricky play from SWP.

67. 48'

City's first corner of the game is claimed easily by Van der Sar who instantly throws the ball up-field and defence becomes attack.

68. 48'

United press with Rooney, but City ride out the danger

69. 49'

Vincent Kompany in rare foray into the United danger area fires a shot wide of VDS' goal. City full of threat and intent this half!

70. 50'

Garrido cleaers to deny Fletcher a one-on-one with the keeper after Berbatov's through-ball.

71. 51'

Garrido tackles Park and tears forward; so much more pace about City in the second half.

72. 52'

City are a different team this half, the fans sense it and the atmosphere has picked up again.

73. 53'

Berbatov is ruled to have fouled SWP - who has been in the wars today.

74. 53'

A terrible, clumsy touch from Richards nearly lets Berbatov in, but Ireland tidies up the danger.

75. 53'

Dunne with a superb sliding tackle on Park to block a shot from the winger after he was slipped in by Rooney.

76. 55'

Ireland is typifying City's improved workrate - he back-tracks to get a tackle in and wins the ball deep in his own half before releasing it for quick City break.

77. 56'

Kompany is down on the deck and taking treatment so there is a break in play.

78. 57'

Back underway and Evra wins the ball from SWP on the City left.

79. 58'

A booking for Ronaldo after he clips SWP who was in full flight. Ronaldo the applauds the the ref in a mokcing, sarcastic fashion which he is lucky not get in trouble for.

80. 59'

Robinho and Elano are linking up well and combining to give United probelms in the middle and final third. Their movement and invention is just what was missing in the opening half.

81. 60'

Referee Webb is giving Fletcher a talking to for felling Robinho. Fletcher who is already on a yellow is most contrite!

82. 61'

For all City's improved pace and guile, United have not been too threatened and Ferguson will be content.

83. 62'

Evra takes an awkward tumble after a fair tackle from Garrido. He seems to be OK; he's been excellent today for United, in both defence and attack.

84. 63'

Great stuff from Elano as he truns Park inside out before playing a tidy ball inside.

85. 64'

Berbatov is well handled by Dunne and Kompany and waste poessession with a petulant kick/ shot straight at the defenders.

86. 65'

Another booking for United - this time Evra, who will now miss the game against Spurs. Both Evra and Rafael are on bookings, both fullbacks - not ideal with 25 mins left to play.

87. 65'

Garrido tries his luck with a shot on VDS' goal from the freekick, but the keeper is untroubled and United have a goal kick.

88. 66'

    Corner for United.

89. 67'

Ronaldo is sent off for a second yellow - the ref sees it as an intentional handball.

90. 68'

For some reason Ronaldo chose to play volleyball in the penalty area. Instead of heading the ball he put two hands up, as if to protect his face as the ball was flighted in from the corner. Very odd. He didn't get a push in the back, so why he chose to block the ball with his and and not head it is a mytery.

91. 69'

Ronaldo finally leaves the pitch. He seems to be suggesting that he heard a whistle as the ball was crossed in, so thought play was suspended when he handled. Whether that is just an excuse for a foolish moment is unclear. Whatever the reason United are down to 10 men.

92. 70'

Corner for City as they turn the screw.

93. 72'

Dunne heads the corner over the bar - good effort. United escpae, but City sense the visitors are rattled by that red card and are there for the taking.

94. 73'

Garrido, Robinho and Elano makes some neat moves and passes and City look for an opening.

95. 74'

Rooney has dropped into the left midfield role left vacant by Ronaldo. He will have some defensive duties now, which will ask a lot of him and could leave Berbatov isolated upfront.

96. 75'

Richards is down and taking treatment for an ankle problem

97. 76'

15 minutes to go and United still lead

98. 76'

United just taking the sting out of City by keeping the ball, spreading it around at ease and winding down the clock.

99. 77'

United still in possession, despite an increasingly frustrated City side snapping at their heals.

100. 78'

Dunne and Kompany have the ball for City. They play it between themselves before Dunne feeds it forward to Zabaleta.

101. 79'

A poor cross-field ball from Garrido is intercepted by Rooney and United are back on the ball.

102. 80'

Ten minutes left and Hughes, on the touchline, cuts a frustrated figure shouting instructions to his side.

103. 81'

Neat feet from Rafael in a tight spot - he plays his way out of trouble with a one-two with Berbatov.

104. 82'

A frustrated Ireland clatters into Fletcher and Untied have a freekick.

105. 83'

Berbatov slowly walks off after his number is shown on the substitue board. His slowness is not welcomed by Hughes, or the ref who points to his watch.

106. 83'

On for Berbatov is Ryan Giggs, who celebrated his 35th birthday on Saturday.

107. 84'

Another booking, this time Carrick for cynical foul to slow a City counter attack.

108. 84'

Dunne with a nice bit of defending to close the door on Giggs who was released by Rooney's excellent run and pass.

109. 85'

Last five minutes - have City got anything left to throw at United?

110. 86'

Benjani has got something to throw at Fletcher - his leg. Not a very clever foul that one, right under the ref's nose and in the middle of the park.

111. 87'

United win a throw and are in no hurry to take it.

112. 87'

Rooney is in full scowling, frowning mode - if he were a cartoon the speech bubble would say 'Grrrr'.

113. 88'

Robinho beckons players into the United box moments before clipping a hopeful ball into the mix. Sadly for him Vidic reads it too well and United clear.

114. 88'

Rafael clears the ball after tackling Garrido in the box - a few calls for a City pen, but there is nothing doing.

115. 89'

A late time wasting change for United. Park leaves the game, on comes John O'Shea.

116. 90'

Four added minutes signalled by the fourth official. Can City make the extra man count?

117. 91'

O'Shea's first touch come after Garrido thundered a cross into the Irishman's back as he closed the City man down. That might twinge a little.

118. 92'

United's midfield has been superb. Carrick and Fletcher have been in control and stopped City making the most of the extra man.

119. 93'

Corner for City and Hart goes up to cause problems.

120. 93'

Evra clears off the line and United break, but Hart is well out of position.

121. 93'

Rooney tries his luck with an audacious shot from 50 yards as Hart races back to his goal. The keeper just manages to get a flailing hand to the shot to deny Rooney a memorable goal.

122. 94'

Time is almost up in the Manchester derby... in fact time is up. United win 1-0.

123. 94'

Manchester United are the victors thanks to Wayne Rooney. United stay third and have stilled played a game less than everyone else. It was a great second half, and a fair result, becuase frankly City just didn't create enough.
