2. Good evening all and welcome to live commentary of Manchester United v Everton at Old Trafford. Ten minutes to go until kick-off and team news is filtering through now.

7. Louis Saha and Tim Howard return to Old Trafford to take on their former employers. Saha scored 28 league goals for Sir Alex Ferguson's side during his four year stay in Manchester.

8. Always a little tasty these games, and United have an all-Everton supporting front-line. Rooney of course caught the eye of the football world when he was a youngster at Everton and though Owen made his name for Liverpool, he supported the Toffees as a boy.

9. The players are out on the pitch and we're just about ready for action. Everton's 18-year-old Jack Rodwell was born nine days after Ryan Giggs made his United debut against Everton in 1991. Crazy!

    United get the ball to Valencia early and with the Ecuadorian winger and youngster Rafael down the right they're not short of pace.

    Rafael is starting as O'Shea was injured against France and Gary Neville is suspended after his red card against Barnsley in the Carling Cup.

    Owen has the ball and advances, he tries to play through Valencia but it's under hit. But Baines turns it out for a corner.

    Giggs delivers it but it's cleared out at the near post.

    Fellaini advances for Everton, they're playing a 4-5-1 but lack a little width.

    Carrick intercepts and plays it in to Rooney, who has dropped a bit deeper.

    Valencia crosses in after being released by Fletcher but it's too high for Owen and the Scottish midfielder. Rooney collects at the back post but his ball is too deep and it floats wide.

    United still piling on the pressure early on. The champions have definitely started on the front foot.

    Evra brought down by Gosling but the ref plays the advantage. The Frenchman picks it up again and cuts inside but sees his right-foot shot blocked.

    Let's face it, Evra's right foot is never going to be causing too many problems.

    Everton trying to build it up patiently from the back with Neill and Yobo. The ball escapes up to Fellaini and Saha but the pair can't manufacture anything and it breaks down for again.

    Rooney tries to release Owen but Baines intercepts. Good movement from Owen and excellent anticipation from the Everton left-back.

    Yakubu on the bench for the toffees and he will be a dangerous player to introduce later in the game. First scored against united for Maccabi Haifa in the Champiosn League.

    Giggs and Owen link-up and it's turned out for a United throw-in.

    Valencia attempts a cross and wins the corner.

    Taken quickly to Giggs but he can't get the cross in. Second bite of the cherry for Valencia but can't find a Unite dhead.

    Fellaini breaks now for Everton.

    No options for him at all, where's the support?

    Valencia free down the right again and he tiptoes through but Baines makes the tackle again.

    Evra down the left and he cuts it back to Rooney on the edge of the area. But he miscues his shot and slices it wide.

    Rodwell advances for Everton but they just can't keep possession. United win it back and look to push forward with Valencia.

    Giggs and Owen combine again and the United captain gets a shot away. It's easy for Howard though.

    Saha released here and he's shoulder-to-shoulder with Brown. The United defender makes a great tackle to force the ball away.

    Valencia with a cute touch releases Rafael and he crosses the ball into a dangerous position but it's just ahead of Rooney.

    Good start from Valencia, he has looked dangerous whenever United have the ball down the right. Baines is having to work hard.

    Diagonal ball from Neill to Saha and the Frenchman controls it with his hand. Not the first French striker to do that this week. but the ref has spotted it on this occasion.

    Valencia strikes it over. United broke at pace and the ball came to the winger on the edge of the box but his shot was nowhere newar.

    Baines does well down the left and pulls the ball back for Saha. He swivels on his left and gets the shot away but no problems for Van der Sar.

    Fellaini and Cahill combine well and Gosling has it now.

    Fellaini back to Rodwell but his through ball drifts out for a goal kick.

    United will be happy to have Vidic back and he's initiating this attack from the back. Passes it into Carrick who looks wide for Evra.

    Patient build-up from united and Owen has dropped deep to half-way. He passes it to Rafael who is caught late by Cahill. Free-kick.

    Owen releases Rooney. And it's a United corner.

    Rafael to cross but Vidic can't get his head on it.

    It's cleared out for Everton and Saha breaks at pace. Rafael chases but Saha is too strong and the Brazilian full-back brings him down. Fee-kick and a yellow card to Rafael.

    Nothing comes of the free-kick and here come United again with Valencia.

    Gosling intercepts but the ball. he goes for the long pass and it's all the way through to Van der Sar.

    Evra and Giggs for United. The Frenchman crosses but cleared away to safety again.

    The ref wave comes again with Ryan Giggs leading the charge. Evra marauds forward and does well to get the cross in but that final ball has really been lacking for United so far.

    It's a good ball but no United players on the end. Three more crosses come in from left and right but it's just not the right ball. Again.

    Rodwell advances and take on a speculative left-foot effort from 20 yards out. Wide of the left post.

    Saha tries to work it on for Fellaini and Rafael knocks it to safety.

    Difficult ball over the head of Yobo and Carrick's putting him under pressure. But the Nigerian dies well, watching it come over his shoulder and clearing it out.

    United 1-0 Everton. A volley from the edge of the box. Evra's cross is knocked back by Valencia to Fletcher on the 18-yard line. And he sweeps it into the top corner.

    Heitinga has got blood pouring from his temple. Vidic climbed and caught him with a bit of an elbow. Looked like an accident and Hardman Heitinga looks indifferent.

    the noise levels have increased dramatically at Old Trafford and United are looking to turn the screw now. Distin with a strong challenge on carrick on the edge of the box. Deemed fair by the ref.

    Fellaini goes in the book after going in late on Fletcher. Blatant yellow and he will be suspended for the Toffees' trip to Hull on Wednesday.

    Heitinga looks long for Saha, a pretty common tactic for Everton this half. He knocks it down to Fellaini but nothing comes of it.

    Corner for United now, the ball drops to Valencia on the edge who unleashes a poweful strike. But it's blocked away.

    Rooney flicks it through to Owen but Howard's out quickly to parry it out for a corner.
