Chelsea – Arsenal

1. Ashley Cole is sure for a 'warm' reception in the London derby as he lines up in a Chelsea shirt for the first time against Arsenal. Arsene Wenger has more to worry about that his old left-back though as his youthful defence come up against Didier Drogba and co.

2. Swiss defensive duo Johan Djourou and Philippe Senderos will have to be on top of their game today if Arsenal are to take anything from this match. Jose Mourinho will be confident of a win, Manchester United fans will hope he doesn't get it.

3. Chelsea start the match. It is noisy inside Stamford Bridge today but Arsenal will be hoping they can silence the home crowd.

4. Good tackle by Fabregas on Shevchenko.

5. Ashley Cole touches the ball for the first time and receives a standing ovation. And a chorus of boos.

6. 1'

   Senderos slices his clearance somewhat but Arsenal regain possession.

7. 2'

   Van Persie intercepts John Terry's pass and now Arsenal attack. This time though Frank Lampard is on hand to break it up.

   John Terry makes a good clean tackle on Fabregas.

9. 4'

   Makelele feeds Drogba but the striker is a yard offside.

10. 5'

    Fabregas' feet were high as he challenged Terry and Chelsea get the free-kick.

    Nice control from Van Persie and he then gets on the end of Djourou's cross. This time though his touch lets him down and Chelsea get a goal-kick.

    The noise levels rise each time Cole gets a touch of the ball. Some ribald chants are sure to be sung in his honour from the visiting Arsenal fans today.

    Arsenal have a free-kick thirty yards from the Chelsea goal after Carvalho handled the ball.

    Van Persie hits it straight at the wall.

    Now Arsenal have a corner which they take short. Ashley Cole is on hand though to block it for another corner.

    This time the corner is played in to the box and Lampard easily clears it.

    A lovely turn from Drogba which fools Senderos completely but then Drogba takes a dive? Perhaps, but the referee seems to think Senderos fouled him and talks to the Swiss player. Chelsea have a free-kick.

    The ball comes in but Arsenal head it away. Hleb plays it to Flamini and then he finds Adebayor. When his ball comes in to the Chelsea box though nobody in a red shirt is near it. Good counter-attacking from Arsenal.

    Jens Lehmann plucks Ashely Cole's cross from the air as it flew across his six yard box.

20. 14'

    Adebayor shimmies past Terry but his shot from twenty yards is scuffed and poor.

21. 15'

    At the other end Lehmann reads Shevchenko's shot well and gets behind his effort.

    A screaming thirty yard effort from Michael Ballack which has his compatriot Jens Lehmann scrambling to his right. The ball whizzes just past his post though.

    Frank Lampard has hit the post with an effort from twenty yards which totally fooled Jens Lehmann. Chelsea are geting closer.

    Now Drogba tries his luck but his shot is way off target. Chelsea are getting a lot of joy from Arsenal's central defence at the minute.

    Good tackle by Geremi on Adebayor. Chelsea advance and then Senderos makes a terrible attempt at an interception. He looks nervous today and that should be a cause for concern for his manager.

    Drogba does well to keep the ball in play and even better to find Shevchenko. The ex-AC Milan man's shot doesn't trouble Lehmann though.

    Van Persie's shot from just outside the box skims just past Hilario's post.

    Clichy does well to win the ball from Essien but then gives the ball away cheaply. Now Ashley Cole is being spoken to for a foul. His manager is rather animated on the touchline. Cole is booked for the foul on Hleb, who he hacked down.

    Drogba gets back to head the ball away when Van Persie takes the free-kick.

    Ashley Cole, railing against the perceived injustice of his yellow card, is remonstrating with the referee for not booking Fabregas after he challenged Drogba.

    Senderos makes a tackle on Drogba which should do his confidence some good.

    Shevchenko argues for a corner after he went round Eboue. He had a point but the ref ignores him.

    Hleb nearly finds Van Persie who is lurking with intent in the Chelsea box but Terry makes a good interception.

    Fabregas turns Carvalho but then slips over and the ball runs through to Hilario.

    Van Persie beats two Chelsea men and then hits a shot from the edge of the box. He has no room to get any power behind it though and Hilario deals with it easily enough.

    Eboue appears to be limping but the game rages on. Ballack tries to find Cole but over-hits the pass much to the delight of the travelling fans from north London.

    Eboue, seemingly recovered, makes a crunching tackle on Drogba which gives Chelsea a corner.

    The corner when it comes in is poor and hit far too hard. Arsenal have the goal-kick.

    Shevchenko back-tracks to make a covering tackle on Hleb.

    Essien stabs a shot over the bar as Gilberto bravely makes a tackle on him. Good work from the Arsenal man who just did enough to put Essien off.

    Nice inter-play between Eboue and Hleb. When Eboue gets it back he fools Ashley Cole, who falls over, before winning a corner.

    Hilario rushes from his line to punch away Van Persie's corner. The Dutchman gets another cross in but Flamini's header sails over the bar.

    Good tackle on Lampard by Gilberto. Then Lampard makes a fine tackle and Eboue is forced to concede a corner.

    Lehmann makes a terrible attempt at taking the ball from the corner. He drops it and then Eissien has a shot which Fabregas, still rooted to the goal-line, casually clears to stop a certain goal. He saved his keeper's blushes there.

    Drogba is caught just offside.

    Dynamic midfield play from Essien to get a Chelsea attack moving through the middle but Eboue is on hand to break it up again.

    Eboue and Lampard tangle and the Arsenal man seemed to take a kick at Lampard. Eboue is now pretending to be hurt. The ref has a little word but nobody is cautioned.

    Cole sends over an inviting cross which Senderos clears. Arsenal had got themselves in all sorts of trouble there by trying to play the ball out of defence and Chelsea nearly punished them.

    Lehmann comes right to the edge of his area to take the ball away from Sevchenko at the second attempt. The Ukranian striker got a rather painful looking knee in his back for his troubles.

    Terry goes in hard on Adebayor but Chelsea get the free-kick.

    Drogba, again, is caught well offside.

    Poor control from Flamini gives Chelsea a throw. But that's it...

    HALF TIME - Chelsea have threatened more and Arsenal's defence is looking less assured than their host's. Chelsea will be looking to up the ante in the second half and turn the screws on Arsenal. Ashley Cole will have to watch himself though as he is on a yellow card.

    The game resumes and Chelsea win the ball almost immediately. Germemis advances dwon the right but Hleb retains the ball once he has won it and Arsenal scramble it away. Adebayor then beats Carvalho and hits a shot which is a few yards wide of Hilario's goal.

    Terry misses what looked like a straight forward header but nobody from Arsenal is around to capatalise on his slip.

    Adebayor skips away from John Terry wide on the right before delivering a great ball in towards Van Persie. He does well to jump to meet the ball but can't direct his header on target.

    Lampard takes a free-kick in to the Arsenal box. Drogba has lots of space to direct his header but hits it over the bar when he perhaps should have left it for Essien who was just behind him.

    Lampard fouled Eboue and Arsenal get the free-kick in a dangerous area thirty five yards out.

    Van Persie's ball in is poor and Chelsea deal with it easily.

    Makelele finds Cole but he can't control it and Eboue muscles him out.

    Ballack does well to get back and make a tackle on Adebayor who is looking sprightly since the break. Arsenal have a corner.

    Hilario, under no pressure from the Arsenal players, has punched the ball behind for another corner.

    Again Van Persie's delivery is poor and Lampard is able to clear the ball away with his header.

    Flamini is booked for a rash tackle on Lampard who was going nowhere. The free-kick is within range of the Arsenal goal and someone in a Chelsea shirt is going to have a go at this.

    It's Geremi and the shot is weak and straight in to the wall.

    Senderos heads the ball clear to Fabregas but Chelsea then win it back. Hleb is then on hand to do likewise for the Gunners.

    Arjen Robben is warming up on the touchline and a change is imminent it would seem.

    Chelsea have another free-kick in an almost identical spot to their previous attempt. This time Lampard is sizing it up.

    The results are not much better though, this time the ball drifts harmlessly wide of Lehmann's goal.

    Lampard and Djourou are mouthing off to each other after they tangled and the ref has a word with Lampard. That is all though as the card stays in his pocket.

    Adebayor again makes a nuisance of himself and goes on a penetrating run before finding Fabregas. His shot from outside of the box is straight at Hilario though.

    Shaun Wright-Philips and Arjen Robben are both coming on. Chelsea are obviously happy with the draw.

    Shevchenko hits a ball across the Arsenal goal which everyone misses. When the ball comes in Drogba goes down in the box. This upsets Lehmann who then chases the Chelsea man. Drogba falls over again in a theatrical manner before rushing over to Lehmann. 'Anything you can do I can do better' says the German keeper as he crashes to the floor rather pathetically. Both are deservedly booked.

    Shevchenko and Geremi are the players making way in Chelsea's double subsitution.

    Robben races down the wing and the Dutchman's injection of pace in to this game could be the clincher in deciding this match.

    Terry smoothly chests a ball down to deny Adebayor. Chelsea get it up the park and have a throw near Arsenal's goal. When the ball is played in though Essien fouls Gilberto.

    Good feet from Van Persie which tricks Wright-Phillips who gives away a free-kick.

    Senderos gives the ball away very cheaply and Robben skips past Eboue before playing in a very good cross. Luckily for Arsenal Gilberto gets back to get the ball away.

    Robben and Drogba link up well and the winger looks up to see who is in the box. Nobody for the home side so he gives it back to Drogba on the edge of the box whose shot fizzes just wide.

    Robben again threatens as he hits a fierce shot inches wide of the Arsenal goal. Robben has changed the tempo of the match since he came on.

    Fabregas has a go from thirty-five yards but the ball is always going wide.

    Van Persie takes a tumble in the box but it was more a care of tripping over his feet rather than trying to trick the referee.

    Fabregas wins the ball on the edge of his area and Arsenal break with pace. They get a throw close to Chelsea's goal.

    GOAL - Arsenal have opened the scoring and it is a vintage Gunners move. They patiently knock the ball around on the edge of the area before Hleb finds Flamini who slots it past the flailing Hilario. Arsenal's goal is now sure to resemble the Alamo for the remainder of the game.

    Drogba comes so close to the equaliser. Makelele plays a great ball through to him but Lehmann rushes from his line to put the big Chelsea striker off. He succeeds and the shot goes wide.

    Great tackle from Gilberto on Wright-Phillips. Now Chelsea attack through Robben whose cross is firmly met by Drogba's head. It's just over the bar but Drogba now appears to be limping.

    Van Persie is replaced by Freddie Ljungberg.

    GOAL - Michael Essien has hit an absolute screamer from thirty-five yards out which bends in mid-air and flies in to the top right hand corner of Arsenal's goal. A wonderful strike but they will want another.

    Hleb has a great chance at the other end but his lack of composure leads him to hit the shot in to row z when he should troubled Hilario.

    Terry takes the ball off the feet of Adebayor as he looked to turn and get a shot in on goal.

    Wright-Phillips threatens down the right but can't get a decent ball in.

    Wright-Phillips clips Clichys' heels and Arsenal get the free-kick.

    Four minutes of added time to play.

    Drogba wins a header but can't direct it to a Chelsea player. Gilberto has to be alert to stop Robben building another attack.

    Wright-Phillips goes around Clichy and his shot is blocked giving Chelsea a corner.

    From the corner, Essien has hit the bar from three yards out when he should have scored.

    The crossbar is still rattling from Essien's effort and noboy will be quite sure how he didn't win the game for Chelsea there.

    Adebayor takes the pressure off Arsenal for a while by going on a run.

    But the pressure is almost immediately put back on them when Lehmann makes another error, spilling Robben's shot. Frank Lampard is quick to pounce on his mistake and looks on in despair as his shot crashes off the Arsenal post before bouncing clear. An unbelievable end to the match.

     FULL-TIME - A breathless end to the game and a wonderful second half as the honours are shared. Two fantastic goals and were it not for Matthew Taylor, Essien's strike would have won goal of the week. A result that will please a certain Mr Ferguson.
