Blackburn Rovers – Manchester United

1. Manchester United make the short trip to Blackburn knowing they need three points to move up the table and make ground on Liverpool and Chelsea, who both play on Sunday. United are six points adrift of their title rivals.

2. Wayne Rooney is the surprise inclusion with his fitness problems seemingly not severe enough to keep him out. West Brown is back in place of Rafael in defence while Anderson and Darren Fletcher sit in the centre of midfield with Paul Scoles injured.

3. Matt Derbyshire wins a start up front for Blackburn who have Jason Brown in goal due to Paul Robinson's injury.

4. Blackburn: Brown, Ooijer, Samba, Nelsen, Olsson, Emerton, Kerimoglu, Warnock, Pedersen, Derbyshire, Roque Santa Cruz. Subs: Bunn, Mokoena, Andrews, Villanueva, Fowler, Treacy, Roberts. Man Utd: Van der Sar, Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Ronaldo, Fletcher, Anderson, Giggs, Berbatov, Rooney. Subs: Amos, Park, Nani, Rafael Da Silva, O'Shea, Evans, Tevez. Referee: Steve Bennett (Kent)

5. 1'

Manchester United kick-off with Giggs and Berbatov

6. 1'

Warnock pulls up injured after just 40 seconds, his foot caught underneath him when challenging Brown and we have an immediate stoppage

7. 2'

It doesn't look good for Warnock - a fringe England squad player

8. 3'

The game goes on without him, Rovers left with 10 for now

9. 4'

Ronaldo, roundly booed by the home fans, tries to link up with Berbatov but the Bulgarian's return pass is woeful

10. 5'

Warnock's back on, trying to run off the problem

11. 6'

Oojer gives away a corner under pressure from Ronaldo. Rooney takes and Vidic stumbles in five yards out...

12. 7'

...OOOOH! Vidic gets his body all wrong when a touch would have given United an early lead. An escape for the hosts.

13. 8'

United really getting on top now, can they make it count?

14. 9'

Santa Cruz is getting very isolated up top of Blackburn are forced back. It's asking for trouble.

15. 10'

But Santa Cruz intelligently wins a corner off Vidic after turning on his shoulder. Emerton goes over to take from the left

16. 11'

Emerton drifts one in, but Van der Sar is dragged down

17. 12'

Berbatov offide, and there was no need to be

18. 13'

Great tackle by Olsson on Ronaldo, stopping him going on the burst

19. 14'

Pedersen plays a square ball for Derbyshire, who expects another team-mate out wide and leaves it... nd it goes for a throw in.

20. 15'

Giggs is robbed by Tugay, but Santa Cruz's attempt at a 1-2 is woeful

21. 15'

Great ball from Oojer on the right flank, he slides it in for Derbyshire!

22. 15'

...OOH! Derbyshire tried to place it in the far corner but Van Der Sar had his angles right. Vidic races across to hack away with Santa Cruz bearing down

23. 16'

Rovers have improved after an uncertain first ten minutes, it's an even game now

24. 17'

Ronaldo looks to get down the outside Samba and goes down so, so easily. Samba didn't even move such was his strength. No free-kick, played for by Ronaldo

25. 18'

It's grim up north today, with the rain pouring down. It's a very slick surface which means the players need to think about their tackles and their passing that little bit more

26. 19'

Pedersen and Santa Cruz link-up, but the Paraguyan cannot pick out a blue and white shirt with the cutback

27. 20'

    Apparently Berbatov is playing

28. 21'

Ronaldo is furious after being tugged back by Oojer. The ref played advantage but Ronnie wants a card. Not happening

29. 21'

Anderson plays a short ball to Berbatov who releases a delightful ball into the run of goal machine Fletcher...

30. 22'

OOOH! Fletcher drags his shot inches wide of the far post with his left, Brown made himself big. A good chance for United

31. 23'

Now it's United who are on top once more

32. 24'

Rooney is flagged offside when trying to latch on to Anderson's ball over the top

33. 25'

Olsson goes down too easily, good work from the back-tracking Rooney

34. 26'

Emerton hits one from 25 yards and it goes a yard wide of Van Der Sar's right post. Good effort!

35. 27'

It is absolutely throwing down at Ewood Park, awful weather.

36. 27'

Good wrod from Ronaldo and Giggs, the Welshaman crossing from the byline but he cannot pick out a red shirt

37. 28'

United still have just the one real shot to show for their efforts. Only Fulham, Newcastle, Bolton and Tottenham have scored fewer goals than the Premier League champions this term.

38. 29'

Ronaldo's shot is blocked, it breaks for Giggs who also has his effort blocked. Again it goes to Ronaldo for another shot - blcoked

39. 30'

Fine work from Berbatov, running into space on the right, he crosses low and Rooney completely misses it but at the far post is Ronaldo...

40. 31'

WHAT A SAVE! Stand-in goalkeeper Jason Brown makes a stunning one-handed save to put Ronaldo's shot over the bar

41. 31'

The corner is worked short and stood up to the back post

42. 31'

    GOAL!

43. 32'

The ball fell onto the head of Wes Brown who managed to help it into the corner. Goalkeeper Jason Brown was furious there was no foul given

44. 33'

Replays suggest that Vidic did stop the keeper from getting a clear run to the ball. No foul from West Brown, but 99 times out of 100 the whistle would go there. Unlucky Rovers.

45. 34'

It never rains it pours. Or throws it down. In Blackburn, anyway.

46. 35'

Berbatov puts Rooney through but Brown is strong and brave to rush out and grab the ball off the striker's feet.

47. 36'

We're starting to see the beginning of water on the pitch. The rain is torrential now

48. 37'

No real answer from Rovers yet, stunned by the goal

49. 38'

It's gone very quiet in the game, unlike the United fans in fine voice.

50. 39'

Rooney is blown for a foul on Samba when jumping for the ball

51. 40'

All United now, passing the ball around in control of the game.

52. 41'

Good break from Emerton, but his curling ball from the right is just in front of Santa Cruz

53. 42'

Possession last five minutes? 79 per cent to United

54. 43'

Paul Ince will be desperate for half-time to reorganise his troops

55. 44'

Cross from Brown on the right, Rooney stoops in at the near post but heads wide

56. 45'

Two minutes to be added on in the rain

57. 45'

Great run from Evra, cutting back into the centre for Ronaldo who sees his sidefootbed shot deflected wide which results in the referee's half-time whistle

58. 45'

Not a great game, United probably just deserve to be in front but only just

59. 46'

    Rovers kick-off the second period

60. 47'

Warnock feeds in Santa Cruz in the box on the left, he hits it on the turn but Van der Sar is equal - but behind for a corner

61. 48'

The corner comes in from the left, wasted

62. 49'

Oojer trips Ronaldo and gets a talking to, the Portuguese wanted a card

63. 50'

It's STILL raining. And STILL throwing it down

64. 50'

Ronaldo is played in through the middle, he only needs a good first touch but it runs away from him for Brown

65. 51'

An early change for Blackburn - the injured Santa Cruz is replaced by Jason Roberts. It's a big blow to Rovers' hopes

66. 52'

Warnock tries to find Roberts but Vidic is too strong and gets in the challenge

67. 53'

Giggs finds Ronslo, he cuts inside and Samba blocks the shot. But he's limping after that...

68. 54'

Derbyshire finds great space on the right and has time to pick out a cross. He delivers deep to the far post... and there's no-one there

69. 55'

It's difficult to see a way back for Rovers. It's only one goal but United seem streets ahead.

70. 56'

A packed programme of Premier League action tomorrow. Hopefully more exciting than this!

71. 57'

You could say this game has really turned into a... 'damp' squib!

72. 58'

A change for Rovers as Morten Gamst Pedersen is replaced by youngster Keith Treacy

73. 58'

Snap shot by Ronaldo from 20 yards out, always pulled wide

74. 59'

For those of you wondering what a damp squib is.... a squib is an explosive so if it's damp their aint much happening!

75. 60'

It's still rain heavily, you know

76. 61'

It's in games like these, when there's very little to report, that thoughts often turn to food.

77. 64'

    GREAT GOAL!

78. 65'

One end to the other. Ronaldo skips past Oojer on the right, Rooney makes an intelligent run to drop off Samba and rifles a shot into the top corner from the cut back

79. 66'

If the game wasn't over before...

80. 66'

Tevez is introduced, in place of Giggs. Nothing more for Rovers to be worried about then

81. 67'

So, around 25 minutes to fill here. Hopefully United will go goal crazy

82. 67'

Corner to United on the right, Fletcher takes but Brown's header is never troubling the goal

83. 68'

Believe it or not, the rain is getting WORSE!

84. 69'

Flag goes up against Ronaldo for offside, dubious decision

85. 70'

Change for Rovers, Keith Andrews on for the veteran Tugay

86. 71'

Fletcher takes out Treacy on the left and gets a booking

87. 71'

Another change for United as Evra is replaced by John O'Shea

88. 72'

Emerton takes the free-kci in Van der Sar claws it away from under his crossbar

89. 73'

Now a foul by Treacy on Ronaldo - Sir Alex is furious but there will be no card

90. 73'

Rooney gets in behind Samba and it's a great chance to end any lingering doubt...

91. 73'

...he lifts it over the onrushing Brown but the shot lands on the roof of the net

92. 74'

Now Berbatov robs Samba who's having a nightmare few moments. He's through on goal and surely this time...

93. 74'

...NO! Berbatov tries to get round goalkeeper Brown but the stopper does brilliant to take the ball away from the striker with his feet

94. 75'

United want a penalty for a handball by Nelsen, Rooney is insisting, but referee Bennett isn't interested

95. 76'

Players going down with a real splash on the sodden surface now

96. 77'

Great strike from Anderson just outside the area, Brown has to claw it behind for a corner

97. 78'

Final change for United as Rooney - no sign of that injury - is replaced with Park Ji-Sung

98. 79'

Brett Emerton has a volleyed effort, Vidic makes the block

99. 80'

Tevez plays the trough ball for Ronaldo who bends his run...

100. 81'

...and again it's dragged wide by Ronaldo who's not had his shooting boots on today

101. 82'

United break and it's three-on-three. Ronaldo looks desperate for a goal and tries to shoot, but it's blocked. Wasteful

102. 83'

United fans are understandably enjoying this now, a fine three points for the champions

103. 84'

Tevez tries to put Berbatov in through the centre - overhit and through to Brown

104. 85'

Samba is late on Tevez and goes into the book

105. 86'

Another top run by Ronaldo, he gets in a good position to cut it back for Tevez...

106. 87'

OOOHHH! The sidefooted effort from Tevez on the edge of the box strikes the outside of the post and away. So close again

107. 88'

United seem able to carve Blackburn open at will. 2-0 is flattering to the home side

108. 89'

Cross from Andrews is met by Samba, but he powers it well over. Good chance that, but Samba's had a shocker

109. 90'

Three pointless minutes to be added on

110. 90'

Roberts almost gets in for a consolation, good defending by Vidic once more

111. 90'

And finally that's it, the whistle goes.

112. 90'

A regulation victory for United, their will be much harder tests ahead if they are to retain their Premier League crown
