Birmingham City – Bolton Wanderers

Good afternoon everyone - it's FA Cup time again and a quarter final clash between Birmingham and Bolton.

Birmingham: Foster, Parnaby, Davies, Jiranek, Murphy, Larsson, Ferguson, Mutch, Beausejour, Phillips, Jerome. Subs: Doyle, Ridgewell, Gardner, Derbyshire, Redmond, Ozturk.

Bolton: Jaaskelainen, Steinsson, Cahill, Wheater, Robinson, Elmander, Holden, Muamba, Petrov, Kevin Davies, Klasnic. Subs: Bogdan, Taylor, Mark Davies, Moreno, Blake, Alonso, Lee.

Veteran striker Kevin Phillips starts up front for Birmingham, who did well to claim a point at Everton in midweek. Have they got much left in the tank after their Carling Cup exertions?

As for Bolton, this is a huge game. They are sitting pretty in the league so they can afford to go all out to win the cup. Sturridge is out and Klasnic comes in.

The Scottish bosses exchange pleasantries on the touchline and we are all set..

<b>Kick off</b>

A half chance inside the area for Petrov but he can't get the ball under control.

Larsson's corner is nodded behind by Holden for another.

A decent run from Muamba after Robinson fed him but his dribbled shot is eventually picked up by Foster.

A nasty one for Jiranek as Holden's follow through sees him stand on the defender's leg. No intent but painful all the same.

Looks like he'll be continue ...

Holden is putting himself about and wins a corner off Ferguson.

Petrov slips as he takes the corner and Elmander nods over at the near post.

Now Cameron Jerome wins a corner for Birmingham.

Bit of a scrappy game so far, not helped by the pitch.

Beausejour wins a free kick on the left wing.

Larsson whips in the cross, Davies gets up and flicks on but Jaaskelainen catches it just under his crossbar.

Elmander's storming run down the right is ended by the ref's whistle as he shoved Murphy.

Muamba's forward run is found Holden and Petrov shot is blocked by a combination of Parnaby's arm and back. No, make that hand.

He had turned his back but I've seen them given.

An awful first touch from Jerome as a ball loops over Wheater. A decent bit of control and he was in on goal, as it was he was forced wide and even though his cross was good, no-one in blue was anywhere near it.

The game has livened up a bit now as Holden swaps passes with Klasnic but can't collect it in time to get a shot away.

<b>Stat:</b> Birmingham City have lost their last three FA Cup quarter-finals, losing their last at St Andrews 0-7 to Liverpool in March 2006.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Steinsson bundles Phillips over as he took Holden's stray pass upfield.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Elmander scores!

A superb finish as Elmander gallops onto Klasnic's flick. Birmingham defenders looking rather static. They had plenty of chances to clear.

A deserved lead for Bolton. They've tried to play some decent stuff and have their reward. Elmander's first for ten games.

Horrible control from Klasnic, as he gives away possession, then a free kick.

Barry Ferguson is off getting some treatment.

Larsson's ball in is nodded clear by Kevin Davies.

Looks like Jiranek is about to come off.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Jiranek heads off after that incident with Holden earlier and Ridgewell comes on. Birmingham's injury woes deepen.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Oh dear, now Ferguson limps off and Nathan Redmond comes on. He's 17 and just signed professional terms a few days ago.

Jaaskelainen comes out to dive at the feet of Phillips, who was trying to latch onto Larsson's pass.

Petrov thinks he kept the ball in on the touchline but the linesman brings him back.

Birmingham's best move of the match as Phillips releases Murphy, his cross finds Beausejour and his shot is toe-poked behind for a corner.

Cahill dives in on Phillips and then picks him up and gives him a hug. Ahhh.

<b>Stat:</b> Bolton Wanderers have won both of the FA Cup games Johan Elmander has scored in before today.

Klasnic tries to find Muamba who was chanrging into the box but the pass was overhit.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Jerome levels!

A great strike as he picks up Wheater's header on the edge of the box and fires home at the near post. Jaaskelainen perhaps at fault with his positioning.

Phillips does well to cross the ball under pressure from Wheater but Jerome hadn't made up the ground.

Just before the goal Jaaskelainen had taken a chance on beating Jerome to a long ball and got there, but perhaps that affected him a matter of seconds later when the goal went in.

It's all Birmingham now.

Poor control from Kevin Davies as Foster collects.

Two added minutes at the end of the half.

Redmond looks a little nervy in possession as you might expect. He whacks a ball down the line for Jerome but overhits it. The striker gives him a round of applause though.

<b>Half time</b> A good, entertaining half, if a little direct. Elmander's opener cancelled out by Jerome.

Don't forget we'll have live coverage of the clash between Man Utd and Arsenal from 17.30 GMT today. Arsene Wenger is looking for his side <a href="http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/892833/arsene-wenger:-we-must-bounce-back-better?cc=5739" target="_blank">bounce back</a> after their mauling in Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Fergie has broken his silence to slam what he calls a <a href="http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/892876/alex-ferguson-blasts-?cc=5739" target="_blank">disgraceful tackle</a> from Jamie Carragher on Nani last weekend. Hard to argue really.

We begin again...

Bolton trying to re-establish their supremacy from the early stages of the first half.

Jerome has had a good game and nearly pinched a long ball from Phillips before Wheater mopped up casually.

Redmond tries some trickery near the byline when perhaps he should have crossed. He's looked lively though.

Elmander knocks a ball to Muamba in space but the ball had gone out of play before he connected.

A huge shout for handball but Phil Dowd adjudges Cahill had nudged Curtis Davies just before he handled it. The correct decision.

Dowd then wanders over for a word with Owen Coyle, who gave him a volley of abuse. They chat, about six inches between their faces, before the ref trots off.

Redmond does well this time to put a decent ball in but Jerome fell over for some reason.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2011/0312/cameronjeromeanddavidwheater_275x155.jpg"> <br>Birmingham goalscorer Cameron Jerome battles with Bolton defender David Wheater

Klasnic's arm cathces Ridgewell, but thankfully he didn't make a meal of it. No intent there.

Petrov wastes possession twice, and as Birmingham clear, Jerome is in, he touches it round the keeper but Jaaskelainen gets a vital touch and it is a corner. Good refereeing.

It was a bit ungainly, but as Jerome went round the 'keeper he stuck out a boot and got a decent chunk of the ball. Home side still not happy.

Changes coming for Bolton.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Chung Yong Lee and Mark Davies come on, Klasnic and Muamba depart.

A weary sigh goes up from Dom Raynor, who has money on Klasnic to score last. His wager is dead as a dodo.

A brilliant delivery from a corner from Larsson and Lee clears off the line with his first touch!

What a mess! Favies has the ball in the net but he is flagged offside. Before that Elmander was fed by LEe but couldn't get the ball out of his feet from nine yards out. Correct call from the linesman.

Bolton penalty!

Curtis Davies lets the ball bounce and Kevin Davies nips in, then he dives in and trips the striker. Terrible defending.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Right down the middle from Kevin Davies and Wanderers lead again!

A real horror show from Curtis Davies. His first mistake was to let a long ball bounce so that namesake Kevin could muscle him off the ball, then he tried to lunge in when the striker had his back to goal and got nowehere near the ball.

Bolton looking good now as Elmander turns and feeds a lovely ball into Lee, then the striker chagres into the box but misses the powerful cross by jumping over it!

Steinsson makes an important challenge as Redmond fed Beausejour inside the box.

<b>Phillips has hit the post!</b> A fierce effort from the veteran and Jaaskelainen gets a vital touch to divert the ball onto the upright.

Great game now, end to end. Elmander charges into the box, tries to shoot, feeds Kevin Davies who tries to shoot, then he finds Lee who tries to cross but it is blocked.

Birmingham looking a little leggy now. Have they got enough energy to haul themselves level again?

Foster keeps Brimingham in it! A poor touch allowed Elmander in but the keeper blocks his shot, then as Bolton rebuild and Lee crosses the striker fires a volley right at Foster.

Larsson pumps a long ball into the box and Curtis Davies backs into Jaaskelainen.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Phillips has equalised!

What a beauty! Redmond glances the ball on and Phillips lunges at it to knock a perfect volley over Jaaskelainen and into the net!

The old man's still got it. That was a superb, instinctive finish. He didn't look at the net once, just angled the volley over the keeper from 20 yards and into the net.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Kevin Davies is booked, either for presistent fouling or back chat. Couldn't tell which.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Matt Derbyshire comes on for Birmingham and David Murphy comes off. A striker for a defender.

A better ball from Lee there and Mark Davies was in. Can we find a winner in seven minutes?

A thoroughly absorbing cup tie this has been. I doubt either fancies a replay though, least of all Birmingham given their precarious position in the league.

Great ball in from Petrov and Holden was poised to nod the winner before Ridgewell cleared.

Phillips, showing signs of tiredness, brings down Mark Davies. Free kick 35 yards out for Bolton.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Lee's won it for Bolton!

A long ball from the back, Kevin Davies nods across goal after jumping higher than Beausejour and Lee nods it cutely into the corner.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Petrov off and Matt Taylor on as four mins of extra time are announced.

So nearly an equaliser as Jerome gets to the byline and crosses, Phillips has his shot blocked then Holden clears.

Birmingham pumping it long now as you'd expect.

Controversial. Robinson tries to back heel the ball out of play because Mark Davies is down but Parnaby gets there before it runs out of play and streaks away. The ref's whistle stops him in his tracks.

Davies (M) hobbles off and I presume we will have an extra minute of stoppage time as a result.

Last chance for the home side...

<b>Full time</b> A cracking game and a great win for Bolton thanks to Lee's last-gasp winner. The Trotters are heading to Wembley!

As a special treat today, given the game is live on ESPN UK, we'll be streaming our Extra Time feature, when pundits Kevin Keegan and DJ Campbell will be analysing where the match was won and lost. Stay tuned for that at 3pm GMT (in 20 minutes).
