2. United had a bad day at the office in midweek.

3. Join us for live commentary of the game, kick-off is at 17.30 GMT.

4. Jermaine Jenas gets his first start for Aston Villa as they take on the Premier League champions. Marc Albrighton and Barry Bannan are recalled with Emile Heskey, Charles N'Zogbia and Fabian Delph left out of the side.

5. Sir Alex Ferguson prefers Anders Lindegaard to David De Gea while right-back Chris Smalling and Phil Jones were also brought into the side.

6. It has been a frantic afternoon of Premier League action, why not have a read of our wrap to catch up on anything you missed.

7. A minute's applause for Gary Speed to be held before kick-off, as has happened at every top flight game this weekend.

8. 1'

   KICK OFF

9. 2'

No Charles N'Zogbia for Villa who is training with the reserves after breaching club rules. Can only guess what that means.

10. 3'

Ashley Young gets a round of boos as he tries to latch onto a long ball.

11. 4'

Villa at least getting some players up in support of Bent as his flick on nearly finds Agbonlahor.

12. 6'

Dale Johnson informs me Manchester United haven't scored more than one goal in a Premier League game for two months.

13. 7'

A slow start to the game. Lots of scrappiness in midfield.

14. 8'

Oh dear, bad news for Man Utd as Hernandez twists his ankle and sinks to the turf. No-one was near him.

15. 9'

This looks bad for Hernandez - a stretcher is coming on and Welbeck is preaparing himself. A big blow for the striker and his club.

16. 10'

Looks like it will be Valencia who gets the nod to come on as United change shape. Hernandez still to be loaded onto the stretcher.

17. 11'

Applause for Chicharito as he is taken off and Valencia trots on.

18. 12'

Nani looks like he has moved up to partner Rooney with Valencia going right.

19. 13'

A good five-minute stoppage so the half will run to 50 minutes I presume. Nani gets through the middle but Collins tidies up.

20. 14'

Very little from Villa as an attacking force yet.

21. 15'

Nani jinks past a few players and Jones has a pop but it is wild and well over the bar.

22. 16'

Rooney and Dunne battle for the ball on the right wing. The defender wins the duel of the well-built duo.

23. 17'

Villa look like they are already settling for a 0-0 draw.

24. 18'

Space for Valencia on the right side, he tries to drill the ball across the face but Warnock concedes a corner.

25. 19'

Vidic wins the header and Smalling turns to shoot but Warnock and Dunne combine to make a vital block.

26. 20'

     GOAL Jones scores for United!

27. 20'

It had been coming and from Nani's cross Jones finishes well from seven yards out. Good volley.

28. 21'

Hopefully that will shake McLeish into action - Villa need something to get them going. They win a corner now.

29. 22'

Dunne wins the header and Herd rises to help it towards goal but Lindegaard is out.

30. 23'

Randy Lerner looking rueful in the stands.

31. 24'

Albrighton penalised for a foul on Evra - gets a shred of the ball but a foul. Those two had a right old tussle in this game last year.

32. 25'

Superb move from United as Rooney finds Valencia who crosses for Nani but Given saves his header.

33. 26'

After Villa were routed by Spurs Alex McLeish admitted they hadn't laid a glove on their opponents. He'll be saying the same after this if Villa don't get themselves going.

34. 27'

A rare touch of the ball from Darren Bent. Why don't Villa play more to his strengths?

35. 28'

Bannan gets hold of an Agbonlahor cross but runs out of space to get it across goal. A bit better from Villa.

36. 29'

Risky at the back from Jenas as he leaves a backpass short and Jones nearly blocks Given's clearance.

37. 30'

Villa claim a push from Smalling on Agbonlahor. Nothing doing from the referee.

38. 30'

Phil Jones celebrates his opener

39. 31'

A thumper from Valencia flashes over Given's crossbar.

40. 32'

Darren Bent is prostrate after falling awkwardly after an aerial challenge.

41. 33'

Looks like his shoulder took a bit of a bump. He's back on now.

42. 34'

Given comes charging out as Young tries to get onto a long ball over the top from Jones. Good goalkeeping.

43. 35'

Villa have ten minutes to put some hard yards in if they are to avoid a half time hairdryer from McLeish.

44. 36'

Looks like Brad Guzan is going to replace Given, who tugged a muscle during that clearance.

45. 38'

This will be Guzan's second Premier League appearance. Given hobbles off. Left hamstring it looks like.

46. 39'

Eight touches for Bent in 40 minutes of football. Not good enough.

47. 40'

Lindegaard comes out to punch as Bannan's cross heads towards Bent.

48. 41'

Young gets bundled off the ball by Hutton then swipes at Albrighton in frustration.

49. 42'

Collins takes out Young this time. United free kick in the centre circle.

50. 43'

United on cruise control here. Its a stroll for them at present.

51. 44'

Eight added minutes at the end of the half.

52. 45'

James Collins has lost a boot - currently clutching it in his right hand while United knock the ball around.

53. 45'

Jones goes down dramatically at the merest touch from Warnock. Free kick 30 yards out and central.

54. 45'

HALF TIME A series of corners for United as the half comes to an end. McLeish needs a radical rethink at half time. United haven't broken into sweat and Villa fans boo their team as the whistle goes.

55. Manchester United will reclaim second from Spurs if they win at Villa. Keep up to date with all the movers and shakers with ourlive Premier League table.

57. 46'

    Off we go again...

58. 47'

A nothing pass from Bannan is so misplaced it almost counts as a shot.

59. 48'

Space for Valencia on the right - he finally gets his cross in but Dunne clears.

60. 49'

Lovely turn from Rooney to get past Bannan, then a shot which he claims took a deflection. He's right, looking at the replay.

61. 50'

Former Villa boss John Gregory is in the stands. He manages a team in Kazakhstan appraently.

62. 51'

Warnock gets forward but his poor cross sets United away until Valencia's terrible pass means Agbonlahor can get down the left and win a corner.

63. 52'

Bannan tries a shot on goal that is blocked. At least he tried.

64. 53'

Suspected ankle ligament damage for Hernandez. A lengthy spell out it sounds like.

65. 54'

Chance for Nani as Valencia ghosts past Warnock and finds him. Another Dunne block.

66. 55'

Nothing in the first ten minutes of the second half to suggest Villa will emerge from this slumber and get the crowd going. The apathy on the field and in the stands is tangible.

67. 56'

Excellent tackle from first Warnock then Jones as Rooney and then Jones tried to charge into the box. McLeish throws his arms in the air in disgust.

68. 57'

    Change for Villa.

69. 59'

Chris Herd, who has largely been a passenger, comes off for Petrov. Surprised he didn't start to be honest.

70. 60'

A cross from Agbonlahor takes a flick off Carrick but Lindegaard claims it low down.

71. 61'

Another injured player on the turf - Jenas this time. I forgot he was still on.

72. 62'

Another odd one too, there he was happily jogging along before he just fell to the floor looking back as it he had trodden on something untoward. What is going on?

73. 63'

That's the end for Jenas, Emile Heskey is on. Can he get the party started?

74. 64'

And for United Ryan Giggs has come on for Rio Ferdinand. Phil Jones drops back to centre half.

75. 65'

At least Heskey will give them an added physical presence. Hopefully he'll offer Bent some company.

76. 66'

Rooney finds Young but he is offside as he slots a ball across the face.

77. 68'

A cross to the back post finds Heskey but his header is woeful - takes the pace off the ball and Lindegaard trots out to get it.

78. 69'

A bit better from Villa as they get balls into the box, Albrighton keeps it alive and Agbonlahor's volley takes a flick behind for a corner.

79. 70'

At last, a chance for Villa! Dunne flicks on and Heskey heads it over the bar from about three yards out. Tight angle but still, should have hit the target.

80. 71'

A big concern for Villa outside their weak performance has been the total lack of gusto from the stands. Fans seem completely resigned to being beaten and dominated by United.

81. 72'

Valencia crosses but Villa manage to clear.

82. 73'

Young has a pop but drags the ball wide of the post.

83. 74'

Evra ctaches Albrighton with an arm. His eyes were on the ball but still a foul. Villa can load the box.

84. 75'

Lindegaard comes out to punch the free kick clear. Rooney can't prevent the corner. Heskey gets a head on it but get get it on target.

85. 76'

Another chance! Dunne gets the ball back in the box and Collins' header forces Lindegaard to tip over.

86. 77'

An official attendance of 40,000. Judging by the noise on offer, you could be mistaken for thinking there were about 40 people there.

87. 78'

Giggs feeds Young on the left but his shot is right at Guzan. Then as Villa try to build the referee inadvertently backheels to Warnock.

88. 79'

A smattering of boos and light applause as Young makes way for Welbeck.

89. 80'

Makes way for Welbeck that should have read. This game has turned my brain to mush.

90. 81'

A poor cross from Giggs on his right foot when he had decent space down the right.

91. 82'

Nani hands off to Welbeck who gets into the box but delays his cross long enough for Dunne to come across and block.

92. 83'

Vidic gives the referee a long hard stare as he is penalised for a aerial clash with Heskey.

93. 84'

Bannan's free kick sails harmlessly over everyone in the box and out for a goal kick.

94. 85'

Warnock is down for Villa but gingerly gets to his feet. Bent has touched the ball 20 times in the game and not once in Man Utd's penalty area.

95. 87'

Great jinking run from Welbeck as he gets into the area and triesd to dance down the byline, eventually he is crowded out. Rooney, who was in the middle, not impressed.

96. 88'

Great football from Rooney as he plays a one-two with Carrick, kills the fierce return pass instantly and in the same motion fires over the bar with his left foot. Would have been some goal.

97. 89'

Bent runs into Vidic amid half-hearted claims for a penalty.

98. 89'

Giggs clears a Bannan cross at the far post as Heskey trieds to turn it goalwards.

99. 90'

United break and Welbeck sticks the ball in the net but Rooney delayed the pass too long and his chum had strayed offside.

100. 91'

Three minutes added as a Heskey shot on goal goes out for a throw. He did slip, in fairness.

101. 92'

United heading for a third consecutive 1-0 win away from home. This has been easier than they could ever have imagined.

102. 93'

A few pumped balls into the box as Villa try in vain to create something. United break downfield, Nani shoots over the bar and that should be that. McLeish braced for boos.

103. 94'

FULL TIME Manchester United cruise to three points after a terrible Villa performance, a few boos are audible from those who are still in the ground as the whistle goes. United reclaim second from Spurs and sit five points behind rivals Man City.

104. 94'

A walk in the park for Fergie's men and probably the easiest three points they will ever pick up on the road. Villa had one chance and it was squnadered by Emile Heskey. None of them looked up for it or imbibed with any energy at all. Work to do for McLeish, a United back to stingy defending and 1-0 wins.
