Arsenal – Manchester United

1. The teams are in for the big match and Manchester United welcome back Ryan Giggs to the starting line-up after a well-earned rest last weekend. Henrik Larsson retains his place in attack alongside Wayne Rooney. For Arsenal, Emmanuel Adebayor gets the nod ahead of Robin van Persie who starts on the bench. Justin Hoyte loses his right-back slot to Emmanuel Eboue.

2. I don't know about you but my nerves are already shot to pieces, here come the players emerging from the tunnel, we're ready for 1st v 4th and United's first trip to the Emirates stadium.

   And we're off! United are in their changed strip of all blue and Arsenal are in their traditional red and white.

   The predictable boos for Ronaldo ring out around the stadium for the midfielder's first touch.

   It's the visitors who get hold of possession in these early exchanges, looking very comfortable on the ball.

   First test for Arsenal and it's a set piece whipped in by Giggs. Senderos heads clear but that's two nervy touches from him now and he doesn't look too comfortable.

   First round to the visitors and a great flowing move. A fine passing move ends with a Ryan Giggs shot that curls just wide. The visitors are flying forward.

   Ronaldo has a snap shot but it's well wide and no danger. Arsenal can't get the ball at the moment and United's passing is slick and quick.

   It's a gusty afternoon in North London and that's having an affect on anything played in the air, but Arsenal can't even play i along the deck yet.

    A couple of contentions fouls go unnoticed by referee Steve Bennett, it's broken up the Arsenal attack and Arsene Wenger looks visibly displeased with his side's start.

    Thierry Henry gives the home support something to get excited about, a jinkjing run down the left forces a corner. United do well to close out the danger from the set-piece.

    Maybe there's a few nerves out on the pitch still, a couple of regulation passes go astray but Arsenal are slowly clawing their way back into it now. Henry has a speculative effort that ends up in Edwin van der Sar's arms.

    A pathetic scuffle ensues and tensions begin to simmer. Kolo Toure picks up a needless and somewhat harsh booking and Rooney and Eboue trade flicks of the arm. Handbags!

    A glancing header from Senderos fails to threaten van der Sar but it's certainly starting to liven up now.

    Referee Steve Bennett pulls out his second card of the afternoon and it's Giggs who goes into the book for a crunching tackle from behind on Cesc Fabregas.

    Things begin to calm down slightly and Arsenal look to get hold of the ball. But things aren't going smoothly for the hosts and they lose it quickly and concede a corner.

    Vidic meets it but Senderos did enough to put him off. He maybe should have done better there.

    Rosicky drives in a rising half volley and it ends up in the stands. It was a difficult maneouvre but a chance none the less.

    At the other end Rooney feeds Larsson who drills an effort low making Lehmann dive to his right and make an easy save.

    Possession stats are levelled out now 50-50. Both teams look as if they're in a hurry to get forward and that's leading to a quick turnover in play.

    A reckless Patrice Evra tackle sees the Frenchman's name go in the book. Flamini was the left-back's victim and already the cards are starting to pile up.

    More free-kicks and more stoppages. But that won't bother Man United too much, they look full of confidence all around the park.

    Fabregas launches an a strike from all of 30 yards and Ferdinand heads it up over the bar from a corner. Arsenal can't find the final ball and certain players are struggling to get into the game. Mr Hleb, Mr Henry ahem!

    What a peach of a cross from Adebayor!He manages to find Henry's forehead with a delightful pass from the right. Henry though, opts to plant his header near post when he perhaps should have planted it at the far. That said, van der Sar gets across to make the save.

    A great break from Rooney but a dissapointing result. His shot after a fine run deflects off Larsson and out for a goal kick.

    Another long-ranger from Rosicky and the another wasted chance. An attempted curler into the top corner ends up high and wide.

    What a let off for Gary Neville. Henry glides past him in the United box and Neville sticks out a leg fishing for the ball, only to hook Henry's leg. Down goes the Frenchman but Steve Bennett somehow says no.

    At the other end Lehmann is spared a moment of embarrasment as he comes for a high ball on the edge of his box and fails to clean up the danger. Senderos steps in to sweep up.

    What a chance for Giggs. The Arsenal defence fell asleep looking for a flag but Giggs carries on but fails to make decent contact with his lob and Arsenal escape.

    It's been a facinating half and very tight. There's not much in it and either side look as though they are ready to break the deadlock.

    A double effort from Henry brings a low save from van der Sar. His free-kick slams into the wall but his second effort squirms through and into the Dutchman's arms.

    Two fantastic chances at the end of the half for Manchester United. First, Rooney cracks a dipping half volley from outside the box that Lehmann tips on to the bar and over. From the resulting corner the unmarked Larsson plants a header that looks to be heading in, only for the German to get a touch and Clichy hacks away the loose ball.

    What a thrilling first half! No goals yet but plenty of talking points, not least the penalty shout for Arsenal. And two great chances for the visitors right at the end. What a second half we have in prospect.

    Well here we go again. The players are back out for the second half of this intriguing tie between two of the Premiership's elite clubs.

    A sizzling drive from Fabregas sets out Arsenal's stall for the second period. But from that range (30 yards) and that height (midriff) it won't trouble van der Sar.

    A wayward back-pass from Vidic goes out for a corner. United clear and win a corner of their own thanks to Ronaldo's running.

    The corner evades everyone and whistles through the box and clear. The ref spots an infringement and Lehmann gets his free-kick.

    There's still a few sloppy touches out there and it's creating a passage of broken play. Still, both sides look keen to get forward.

    Neat passing, neat moving, but no end product. How many times have we seen that from Arsenal this season? Well we've just seen it again.

    Rooney scores his first headed Manchester United goal and praise must go to Evra who broke down the left with pace and guile, delivered a fine cross and there was Rooney at the back post to dive home his header. Fine move, fine finish.

    United look buoyant after their goal, and they have every right to. Arsenal look shocked and are on the rocks at the moment.

    That's three times Rosicky has tried his luck from outside the box and the third time he's shot wide. He rushed it slightly and there's no trouble on the United goal.

    Arsenal are stunned and the United fans are in full voice. Their play is rushed now and dare I say it, hopeful.

    A break in play as Evra goes down clutching his shin. He should be ok, but it's disrupted the game for a while.

    Henry hasn't looked at the races today, just when his team need him. Rooney has stepped up to the plate for United, Arsenal need a scorer of their own.

    Robin van Persie stretches his legs on the sidelines and could be set for a run out. Arsenal need something new, Rosicky is starting to fade and United look more than comfortable.

    Here comes the change. It will need something special from he, or any of his other Arsenal team-mates if they are to turn it round. One man who won't play any part is Hleb who makes way for the Dutchman.

    Rosicky moves to the right with van Persie on the left in the changed line-up.

    Henry looks flustered and impatient. United's charges look focussed and determined. They want that nine-point lead at the top of the table. And they look well placed to secure it.

    Rosicky attempts a curler with his weaker foot but it gets the same treatment as his previous four efforts - a smash with the advertising hoardings.

    Henry looks jaded in attack and it's having a negative affect on those behind him.

    United survive a goal scramble and van der Sar is left flat out on the deck. A combination of legs, arms, bodies, deflections keeps the ball out of the United net and Arsenal are left only with a throw-in.

    Wenger is fuming on the touchline, not at anything in particular but he's obviously losing his cool as Arsenal chase the game.

    Set-piece follows set-piece as Arsenal push forward. But United led by Vidic and Ferdiand are comfortably swatting away the aerial bombardment that is raining down on their box.

    Julio Baptista is ready to come on and it's all or nothing for Arsenal now. Flamini departs as Arsenal look to attack even further.

    Solid defending from Clichy. He had to be alert to block Larsson's effort from Ronaldo's cross. It's Larsson's last act as Louis Saha comes on for the last 10 minutes.

    From the resulting corner Vidic steams in and connects with the cross, but it drifts wide under pressure from Senderos.

    Van Persie has got on the scoresheet at the back post after Rosicky's cross. Henry did well to flick it on and the Dutchman blasted it into the roof of the net.

    The Emirates is buzzing but Arsenal look indecisive at the back. Their concentration has gone after their goal and the game is hanging by a thread.

    Ferdinand sweeps up masterfully again after another long ball from Arsenal. Ronaldo's picked up his first booking of the season for kicking the ball away. He can't believe it but he's shown a yellow.

    United dig in and set out their stall and Rosicky has his 87th effort of the match that, guess what, sails over the bar.

    Off comes Ronaldo and on comes Gabriel Heinze. A tactical change for United and the referee's assistant signals four minutes of added time.

    The captain comes to the party! A sensational cross from Eboue finds the forehead of the Arsenal skipper who plants his header into the United net. What a dramatic end to the match!

    Thierry Henry doesn't score many with his head but he's scored a memorable header here to dent Sir Alex Ferguson's side at the death. It's been a thrilling match and a sensational ending. United's gap at the top remains at six points while Arsenal complete the double over the league leaders.
