6. Arsenal get the game under way - what can unpredictable City do against the reigning champions?

   Ashley Cole makes an early break forward, but his pass is intercepted and Anelka tries to move forward...

   ...to the accompaniment of a chorus of boos from the home fans. He can't make anything of his brief spell on the ball

   And Arsenal have possession, moving forward through the lively Cole

    He's penalised for a foul on Marc-Vivien Foe... who then gives the ball away following the free-kick

    Henry tries to chip the ball goalwards, but his effort floats high over the crossbar

    Then Henry gets back to help out his defence, dispossessing City's Wright-Phillips deep inside his own half

    City on the ball again... Anelka's on the left, but he gets crowded out

    But back come the Manchester side again, winning the game's first corner

    It's floated in after a short corner routine - Seaman is stranded and is saved by his crossbar

    Almost an embarrassing moment for the England keeper - and almost a great start for City

    Keegan's side have started well here, and they're showing plenty of confidence in possession

    ...Then a great pass from Bergkamp frees Wiltord on the right, but he can't find Henry with a low cross

    At the other end, Anelka also crosses low - and that one's cleared away as well

    They waste it, and Distin has to time his challenge well to stop the breaking Henry

    From there, Berkovic finds Bernarbia, who crosses - and the Gunners head clear

    Henry gets a header in from about 15 yards, and it flies high over Schmeichel's crossbar. The City keeper has been pretty untroubled so far

    Bernarbia then hits a long-ranger - well wide of the target, but another sign of the Maine Road side's intent

    Huckerby's on the attack for City, and the industrious Bernarbia is there... but Arsenal break and switch play out to Edu on the left...

    Again, though, Arsenal are sloppy by their high standards and that threat peters out

    City fire in a low cross, which is cleared. They're playing the better football so far

    But here come Arsenal, and the ball finds its way through to Wiltord, who is in the clear and in on goal...

    As befits a player in prime form, his finish is superb - coolly past Schmeichel and low into the net. It's 1-0 to the champions!

    A bit of a flattering lead on the balance of play - but Wenger and his team won't mind that at all

    City, though, look undaunted - and they're stringing together a good move in response. Bernarbia has the ball on the right...

    He swings it into the area where Anelka meets it with a firm header past Seaman. It's 1-1 - and it's deserved

    Suddenly, the game has woken up and Wiltord glances a header over the bar from a good position

    Soon it's Henry's turn to find himself in a shooting position - the effort is excellent but so is the low save from Schmeichel, who touches the ball around the post

    The visitors soon cause a few more ripples at the other end of the field - another low cross has Arsenal stretched, but Campbell clears the ball and Wiltord is away...

    The free-kick, however, comes to nothing. A much better spell of play all round, nevertheless

    Henry looks to get away from City defender Sun - the City player looks to have pulled him back

    And they're made to pay by another lighning break from the Gunners - Cole finds Henry, who strides into the area and finishes low into the corner. 2-1 Arsenal!

     And that proves to be the last action of the game - it wasn't particularly pretty or convincing, but Arsenal have won 2-1 and top the league
