2. Dimitar Berbatov returns to the starting line-up to face Fulham as Manchester United look to jump back to the Premier League summit at Old Trafford. Berbatov partners Wayne Rooney in attack.

3. Fulham hammered United 3-0 at Craven Cottage in December, although with the stakes so high, Sir Alex Ferguson would expect revenge to be exacted this afternoon, despite the presence of 15-goal Bobby Zamora for the visitors.

   Fulham get the game underway. Kicking from right to left, wearing their usual white and black kit.

   United take possession early on and that could be the pattern for the whole 90 minutes.

   A great ball from Gera give Dempsey a chance to shoot from long-range. His effort is weak and straight at Van Der Sar.

   Danny Murphy is booed on his first touch of the ball. Largely because he proved the nemesis of United during his time at arch-rivals Liverpool.

   Nani crosses for Berbatov, who can't get his header on target but does force a corner. Nani's corner comes to nothing.

   Fulham work the ball well to give Zamora a chance to cross from the right. The striker shanks his effort out for a goalkick.

    Both sides are still feeling their way into the match at moment.

    United break down the left. Nani crosses for Berbatov, but the striker's flicked header drifts wide of the post. It was tough chance.

    Rooney a Berbatov combine, but the latter is too ponderous on the ball and the chance for a quick break is missed.

    Berbtov slides a defence-splitting pass through to Fletcher, who should shoot but decides to square it to Rooney. Hangeland gets back to make a goal-saving tackle.

    Hangeland and Valencia collide and the defender comes off worse. He needs some treatment.

    Valencia gives the ball away but does well to win it back. Than Carrick sqaunders possession. That's poor from United.

    Neville is robbed by Davies and the ball squirms to Dempsey. The USA striker hits a long-range shot that looks destined for the top corner but goes just over the bar.

    Fulham keep the pressure on and win a corner.

    Davies takes the corner. Hangeland rises but Van Der Sar rushes off his line to punch clear.

    Rooney passes to Carrick, who chips the ball over the Fulham defence for Berbatov. The pass is overhit by about 4 inches and goes out for a goalkick.

    Dempsey wins a header an knocks the ball down for Zamora, who is flagged offside as he prepares to shoot.

    Evra wins a cheap freekick from Gera in a dangerous position...

    ..Nani will take it from the left of the area. The winger whips it in and forces a corner off the head of Hangeland.

    The corner is half cleared. Rooney lashes in a long-range shot from outside of the box that goes wide, despite Berbatov's desperate lunge to turn it into the net.

    Neville whips in a cross looking for the head of Rooney, who looks to be wrestled to the ground by Kelly but the ref gives nothing.

    United are just about edging this game now, after a good start from Fulham.

    Vidic breaks up a lovely flowing move from Fulham and United are on the attack. Nani crosses for Berbatov (again) whose header goes just over the bar (again). The Bulgarian is getting closer.

    Rooney is on his heels and can't get on the end of a great pass from Valencia.

    A tackle-pass from Ferdinand drops to Nani, who hits a first-time pass over the defence for Rooney. But the United striker can't control the ball. That was great passage of play... until it got to Rooney.

    Another cross comes in for Nani - this time it is deeper and falls to Valencia, who is crowded out by defenders.

    Rooney manufactures some room on the edge of the box and hits a shot that Schwarzer saves low down to his right.

    United are knocking on the door now... can they get the goal before half-time?

    Berbatov clips a ball down the line for Nani. The winger races into the box, Rooney is waiting but Nani tries to go past one defender too many and the chance is wasted...and it was a good chance.

    Fulham enjoy a bit of possession and compose themselves.

    Nani, who is the go to man at the moment, gets the ball on the left and whips in yet another cross. Rooney gets a weak header on target that Schwarzer collects.

    nani is working hard down the wing and cuts the ball back for Berbatov, who set up Fletcher. His shot is blocked by Kelly.

    Rooney sets Berbatov free but the Bulgarian turns inside and sets up Rooney, whose long-range shot is blocked by two diving defenders.

    Nani shoots this time and Schwarzer saves at his nera post.

    Murphy lofts a delightful pass over United's defence for Zamora to run on to. The striker attempts to chip Van Der Sar but his effort drops on the roof of the net.

    Murphy tries it again, but this time Vidic has Zamora marked and heads the ball clear.

    Gera is easily brushed off the ball by Ferdinand.

    Neville crosses to the back post for Nani to volley, but the winger swings a boot and totally misses the ball.

    Nani gets the ball on the edge of the box but Kelly rushes out of defence to block his shot.

    Valencia clips the heel of Dempsey as Fulham look to break and gets himself booked. That was a little harsh from the ref.

    Rooney beats two midfielders, looks up and hits a long-range shot that curls inches wide of Schwarzer's post. That was close!

    Nani and Evra combine down the left, the latter takes a heavy touch and is lucky to win a freekick. It is perhaps fitting that the freekick comes to nothing.

    The ref blows for half-time and despite all their toil, United are being held 0-0 by Fulham.

    Fulham have made a chnage at half-time. Simon Davies goes off and Damien Duff takes his place.

    Rooney plays the ball wide to Nani, who returns the pass and Rooney slots the ball in from the penalty spot. GOAL!!!!

    The Fulham defence looked like they were still asleep. The visitors have a tough task now.

    Duff scuffs a shot from the edge of the box that doesn't trouble Van Der Sar.

    Schwarzer spills a shot from Nani but gathers at the second attempt as Berbatov closes in.

    Rooney scraps for the ball in the box and twice his shot is blocked by Fulham players flinging themselves in front of the ball. It is a real scramble.

    It's training ground pass and move from United at the moment, which ends when yet another shot form Rooney is blocked by Hangeland.

    Danny Murphy catches Carrick a tad on the late side and gets booked for his troubles.

    Murphy kicks the ball away... luckily it was in the direction of where the freekick was about to be taken and he escapes getting another yellow card.

    United calmly play their way out of trouble in their own box a break down the other end. A loose pass from Valencia forces Neville to cross and the chance is gone.

    Evra drops a shoulder and ghosts past two defenders. The full-back shoots but his effort is sliced well wide.

    Fulham make a change. Hangeland goes off and Greening comes on.

    United have a corner that Nani will take... it wasn't a good one.

    Nani backheels the ball to evra, who whips in a cross from the left. Valencia is about to head goalwards but Schwarzer plucks the ball off his forehead with some great goalkeeping.

    Valencia takes a corner and delivers it to the near post. Ferdinand flashes a shot on the turn that dips just over the bar.

    Valencia raids down the right and crosses for Berbatov. The Bulgarian volleys a shot that nearly hits the corner flag.

    United probe the Fulham defence until Neville hoists one into the box that Schwarzer claims.

    Fulham make another change. Dempsey goes off and another former United player Nevland comes on.

    Nevland holds off a challenge with his first touch and starts a Fulham attack.

    Vidic is suffering with a bloody nose and needs some treatment.

    United make a change of their own and Park comes on to replace Valencia.

    Right back to the football... Vidic fails to trap the ball and Zamora bears down on goal. But Vidic makes an amazing recover to tackle just as the striker is preparing to shoot.

    United have been bossing the game but they could have been pegged back there.

    Fletcher shrugs off two challenges and when he eventually loses the ball the ref blows for a freekick....

    ...Nani shoots from 30-yards out. His effort dips but not enough to trouble Schwarzer.

    The game has got a bit scrapy now with plenty of stoppages.

    Berbatov plays the ball out wide to Park, who chips it back into the box and Berbatov heads wide for the umpteenth time this match... well fifth I think.

    Evra brings the ball out from the back. He is allowed to advance all the way to the edge of the Fulham box and shoots wide.

    Park cuts inside. His pass to Rooney is poor but Fletcher picks up possession, breaks through the Fulham defence and then forces Schwarzer to make a good save. He should have really scored.

    United are still keeping the pressure on but are yet to get the second goal.

    Berbatov beats two defenders on the wing and cuts inside. He lays the ball back to Rooney, who sweeps a shot into the far corner of the net. GOAL!!!

    Great work from Berbatov on the flank and a great finish from Rooney. That is 32 goals for the season now.

    That should make the game safe for United, who will go back on top of the league if they win.

    United make a change. Captain Gary Neville goes off and on comes Fabio.

    Park gets down the left and delivers the ball into the box. Berbatov is waiting and heads home from about 10-yards out. GOAL!!!

    He had to score eventually and that makes it 3-0 to United.

    Fulham attack but they seem to lose momentum and desire as Duff and Zamora needlessly exchange passes on the edge of the box.

    Rooney chips a pass over the Fulham defence for Berbatov to chase, but his strike partner is flagged offside.

    Rooney has a chance to complete his hat-trick but Kelly blocks yet another shot from the striker and the final whistle blows!

    After a close first-half United eventually cruised to a 3-0 victory to take them to the top of the league.

    Two more goals for Rooney takes his tally to 32 for the season and now he is only ten behind Ronaldo's record of 42. Can he do it?
