Everton – Tottenham Hotspur

1. Good afternoon all and welcome to live commentary of Everton's game with Tottenham at Goodison Park.

2. Everton: Howard, Neill, Hibbert, Yobo, Baines, Pienaar, Rodwell, Fellaini, Bilyaletdinov, Cahill and Jo. Subs: Nash, Saha, Yakubu, Coleman, Duffy, Agard and Baxter.

3. Tottenham: Gomes, Corluka, Bassong, Dawson, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Huddlestone, Palacios, Kranjcar, Defoe and Crouch. Subs: Alnwick, Hutton, Bale, Bentley, Jenas, Pavlyuchenko and Keane.

4. Tottenham can go third with a win here, and they have picked up more points at Goodison than at any other ground in the top flight.

5. Everton are riven with injuries - as has been well documented - but they still have a decent line-up, especially in midfield. They were desperately unlucky against Liverpool last week, and still have the players to hurt Spurs.

6. Lucas Neill slots in at centre half for the Toffees alongside Yobo, but Peter Crouch will look to pull onto full-backs Hibbert and Baines to maximise his aerial threat. They will have their work cut out with Aaron Lennon and Niko Kranjcar on the wings too.

   We're off...

   Gomes is the first prompted into a save as Jo got into the area; he was going away from goal and Corluka was racing towards it. The defender got a tackle in but diverted the ball towards goal and a diving stop was required by Spurs' keeper.

   At the other end Michael Dawson nods over the bar from Tottenham's first corner.

    Now Defoe runs at Yobo and feeds Lennon. The winger tries a shot but Baines gets the block in. Corner.

    A nice interchange between Pienaar and Jo ends with the latter volleyeing the ball out of a throw in under pressure from Assou-Ekotto.

    A weak effort from Rodwell after a neat flick from Pienaar gave him space to get into the area on the right hand side. Gomes saves easily. Then Fellaini has a go from range but it dribbles wide.

    Lennon cuts inside and flicks the ball towards Crouch, but he blazes over from 16 yards when he really should have done a lot better.

    More good work from SPurs. Lennon races past Baines, puts in a great ball that evades everyone, and as Kranjcar turns it back in Hibbert hacks clear.

    Now Defoe wastes a good chance. Defoe runs on Hibbert, cuts inside him and has a clear shot on goal, but his effort is right at Howard and he can block.

    Pienaar and Assou-Ekotto tangle for the ball as it runs out of play. The Spurs defender gives the Everton winger a nudge, the crowd scream penalty, the ref waves away their protests.

    An enforced change for Everton. Yobo hobbles off and Seamus Coleman comes on. More injury woe for the Toffees.

    Looks like Hibbert will go to centre half for Everton. Bet Crouchy is licking his lips.

    Just before the substitution, Jo just failed to latch on to a Cahill through ball as Gomes came out to claim.

    Rodwell gets booked for a sliding tackle on Kranjcar. The youngster clearly got the ball, but it rebounded back into the Croatian and made it look like he'd won it. A poor decision.

    Huddlestone floats in a ball looking for Crouch but Neill heads clear at the back post. The Aussie has a big part to play in this match with Yobo having gone off.

    Now Baines is penalised for a foul - rightly - and the crowd howl at the ref. He's public enemy number one on Merseyside at the moment. Well, in the blue half anyway.

    Good work down the right from Coleman as he gets past Assou-Ekotto and puts in a lovely ball. A combination of Dawson and Gomes turn it behind for a corner.

    Rodwell slides in to prevent Kranjcar getting a shot off.

    Jo does well to spin inside the area after a lovely ball from Rodwell. The angle was against him and he was hitting it across goal, but that was not far off.

    Another good chance for Everton as Cahill finds Pienaar on the right edge of the area, his cross-cum-shot flies across the six yard box but Jo, under pressure from Dawson, can't turn it in.

    Dawson gets a yellow card after chopping down Cahill. It looked worse than it was because it was at pace, but he accepted his punishment without argument. The free kick on the right, is wasted by Bilyaletdinov.

    Now Dawson sticks a forearm into Fellaini's neck and concedes another free kick. It is left of centre, about 25 yards out.

    Baines takes the free kick and tries to bend it in the corner Gomes was covering, but the keeper still has to spring to his right to clutch on to the ball.

    Coleman plays a tricky ball that leads to Kranjcar corss but Defoe's back-flick flies well over the bar.

    Rodwell has to be careful after clipping Lennon.

    Defoe misses another one you'd think he'd have snaffled. Corluka plays him in on the right side of the area and his shot starts wide and ends up wider. He did have to shuffle his feet pretty quickly in fairness to him.

    Big flashpoint as Assou-Ekotto catches Cahill with his studs after a tackle. Then they front up and Assou-Ekotto shoves first Cahill, then Fellaini, above the neck.

    Assou-Ekotto gets just a yellow, and Fellaini does as well for some reason. The referee has lost the plot there. The Spurs defender should have walked, and Fellaini didn't deserve anything.

    Davey Moyes is livid with the referee.

    Great challenge from Hibbert in the area as Kranjcar played in Defoe. Perfectly timed.

    That's spiked the temperature a little inside Everton's famous old ground. Fellaini elbowed Crouch in the most recent free kick too. The replay looked nasty.

    Neill looks long for Jo and the striker follows Dawson's header back to Gomes but the defender got just enough on it.

    Defoe is in the thick of it again as Hibbert is tricked by Baines' header. The striker gets round Howard but by that time Hibbert was back and mopped up the danger.

    Neill is penalised for a clip on Defoe.

    A lively first half draws towards an end. How it is still 0-0 and 11-a-side I don't know.

    Three added minutes to a tetchy first half

    Panic in the Everton area as Lennon swings in a delightful ball that Howard spills but Fellaini is on hand to hack clear.

    Assou-Ekotto is all over Pienaar and gives away a free kick. No second yellow forthcoming though. Dawson clears then Coleman's shot is blocked and that is half time.

    Early chance for Defoe, he latches on to the ball over the top but can't quite prod it home.

    Everton 0-1 Spurs. Seconds after the tame effort, Lennon whips in a cross and Defoe needed just half a yard at the near post to turn it past Howard with his left-foot.

    Great finish and classic predatory stiking from the England man.

    Spurs swarming all over Everton at the start of the second period. They've got a corner now.

    It's turned in towards Crouch but he can't get a good connection and the ball reaches the grateful grasp of Tim Howard.

    Bilyaletdinov unleashes an effort from 30 yards but it sails over.

    Good move from Redknapp to take Assou-Ekotto off too, he had been getting a little feisty towards the end of the first period and it seems the Spurs boss thought he was in danger of getting his marching orders.

    This fixture has finished 0-0 in the last two encounters at Goodison Park. Not this time.

    Howard scrambles it wide! Defoe chested it down to Crouch who poked it towards the far corner but the American goalkeeper got his fingers too it.

    Bale down the left in space but his cross sails high over the crossbar.

    Foul on Cahillin midifeld and it's an Everton free-kick. Bilyaletdinov to take.

    Dealt with by Dawson who heads it away.

    Youngster Coleman accelerates down the left and shows some good footwork. But the Ronaldo step-overs are a bit much and he's dispossessed.

    Baines goes straight through the back of Corluka and rightly goes in the book for his troubles.

    Pienaar for Everton and he looks inside for Bilyaletdinov.

    The Russian looks for Jo who finds Coleman down the right but he can't put the cross in.

    The young right-back has looked impressive, full of energy and willing to get forward at every opportunity.

    Here he comes again. The ball is played inside to Rodwell who tees up Jo on the edge of the area. But the striker's curling effort is high over the bar.

    Spurs break quickly with Defoe who lays the ball off to Huddlestone. But his shot is blocked out for a corner.

    Everton 0-2 Spurs. Cracking header. Kranjcar's corner and Neill lost the Tottenham centre-back who fired a diving header past Howard.

    That came just after Everton had started to gain some second-half momentum. It's knocked the wind out of their sails and it looks like the Toffees are facing a second successive home defeat.

    Spurs back on the attack again and they've got another corner. Defoe's pace is causing all sorts of problems. Kranjcar to take again and he applauds the travelling faithful.

    Definitely a sign of attacking intent from Moyes but you have to fear putting two up top will leave them more exposed to Spurs' pace on the break.

    Spurs coming back on the attack with Bale and his cross reaches Lennon who can't manufacture an opening.

    Long ball forward from Baines and I reckon that will be a tactic that's often reproduced over the next 25 minutes. With the height of Saha and Yakubu they are a threat.

    Floated in but Spurs defend it well. Coleman has a second chance to cross and with Saha closing in Palacios gets a crucial header in to divert the ball away.

    Excellent work from Coleman again down the right. But Bilyaletdinov's attempted through ball to Saha is over hit.

    Good little spell for Everton but they desperately need a goal if they are to salvage anything from this game.

    Good play from Saha in midfield. Excellent strength to escape the clutches of three Spurs players and release Baines down the left. Unfortunately the left-back wastes possession.

    Crouch puts Howard under pressure from a pass-back and the keeper spoons his kick out for a throw.

    Lennon brought down in full-flight by Cahill. A yellow card is rightly produced and Spurs have a free-kick about 25 yards out. Bale to take.

    Lovely effort from Bale and it looked to be heading in. A sprawling Howard was nowhere near as it drifts just wide.

    Cahill just took one right in the chops. Bale booted the ball into his face from point blank range as he attempted to clear it.

    Palacios has looked good for Spurs. Another imperious display from the Honduran midfielder. He's been everything for Spurs Zokora wasn't.

    Terrible defending from Everton. Crouch saunters in behind the Toffees defence to latch onto Kranjcar's through ball. But he drags his left-foot shot wide of the right post.

    Everton 1-2 Spurs. Exceptional attacking full-back play from Coleman who has been outstanding. He accelerates down the wing, skips past Bale and puts it on a plate for Sahah to fire it into the roof of the net.

    The youngster has made things happen for Everton and they've been thrown a lifeline.

    The ball escapes through to Bilyaletdinov after good strength from Fellaini and the Russian's shot bobbles agonisingly wide of the goal.

    Good chance for Defoe Who lifts the ball over Howard and the goal. No worries, he was offside anyway.

    The ball is floated over towards Defoe and Neill barges him down. No free-kcik but the Austraian was a bit lucky there, his eyes were definitely focused on Defoe and not the ball.

    Corluka threads it to Lennon who skips past Pienaar. The South African dives in inside the area but Lennon stays on his feet. Honourable.

     Unbelieveable effort from Saha! Pienaar's cross is met by a stunning overhead kick that had Gomes beaten. But it's inches wide. Would have been a great goal.

     Everton are pushing hard and it seems that Moyes' attacking change is working.

     Everton 2-2 Spurs. They've only gone and done it. Coleman with a great cross from the right that goes through to Baines. The mis-hit shot from the left-Back is turned in by the head of Cahill who directs it past Gomes. Game on.

     It's all Everton now and the Goodison Park crowd are baying for blood. They want that winner.

     He floats it in toward Fellaini at the back post but he can't direct his header towards goal.

     Cahill floats it into Yakubu but it's defended well. Spurs are defending for their lives here.

     It's a peanlty to Spurs. They broke and Hibbert took out Palalcios in the area. Amazing scenes. What a pressure kick.

     Definite penalty, he sent Palacios flying and the midfielder hasn't got up off the floor yet. He looks in a bad way. First impressions were that it was a shoulder barge but there's no question it was the right decision.

     Baines whips it in but the flag's up against Fellaini who drifted offside.

     And another. Moyes urges his players forward. It's got to go in the box.

     Everton 2-2 Spurs. Incredible fightback by Everton,they showed great spirit and it will feel like a win for the Toffees. Defoe and Dawson looked to have put Spurs out of sight but they never gave up and Moyes made an excellent sub, bringing on goalscorer Saha and Yakubu to play two up front. Cahill's equaliser saw Goodison Park erupt and the penalty miss saw noise levels go through the roof. Great performance from young Coleman, he'd be my man of the match.
