2. Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the game between AC Milan and Genoa as 'Operation Get David Beckham to the World Cup' gets underway.

3. That's right, England's finest has returned to Lombardy for a second loan spell as he looks to maintain his fitness ahead of the finals in South Africa. Becks starts tonight for the Rossoneri and is making his second debut.

4. Coach Leonardo earlier shot down rumours that Beckham would be fielded at right back but, in a strange move, he is deployed as part of a three-man attack. The full line-ups are just right and down a bit.

6. Meelan (that's the Italian pronunciation of course) start the match two points behind second-placed Juve and 11 behind leaders Inter, although their city rivals have played two games more. Both Juve and Inter won earlier today.

7. Well the teams are in the tunnel and hugs are being exchanged. Will David Beckham's second spell in Milan prove as successful as his first? Stick with us to find out as his first game unfolds.

8. KICK OFF! Genoa get the game underway at San Siro.

   Milan full back Luca Antonini puts the ball out of play so a Genoa player can receive treatment. A low-key start.

    David Suazo, the Genoa striker who is currently on loan from Milan's rivals Inter, is penalised for a foul.

    David Beckham gets his first chance to showcase his crossing ability and delivers a superb ball for Marco Boriello, whose stabbed shot is saved well by Marco Amelia. Excellent from Becks.

    Milan are dominating possession with Beckham exchanging passes with Andrea Pirlo. They may well miss Alexandre Pato though who misses out due to injury.

    Having said that, Ronaldinho almost conjures something out of nothing as he sticks out his boot to a loose ball and flicks a shot narrowly wide.

    Giandomenico Mesto replies at the other end as his low effort is saved by Milan goalkeeper Dida.

    Milan forward Marco Boriello requires treatment on a muscle problem but he saunters back onto the pitch to take his place at the sharp end of the home side's attack.

    Playing wide in a front three is not exactly Beckham's natural position but it is similar to the one he is hoping to fill for England, should Aaron Lennon or Theo Walcott not start for Fabio Capello. In that sense, this is a good audition for the former England captain.

    David Suazo shows persistence down the right flank as he holds off Antonini but his cross is over hit and fails to find a Genoa team-mate.

    Ronaldinho pulls out a nutmeg to delight the home fans. He hasn't been at his best for some time now but the Brazilian still has the capacity to amaze when he wants to.

    PENALY TO MILAN! Massimo Ambrosini is tripped following a lovely pass from Antonini.

    Replays show that Ambrosini was looking for the spot-kick, to say the least, and justice is done when Marco Amelia saves from Ronaldinho! It was a poor spot-kick.

    Beckham is chopped down but the ref waves play on and Milan fail to take advantage.

    Now Beckham takes aim for the first time in his second spell at Milan but his shot is skewed and flies well wide.

    Ronaldinho attempts to slalom through the whole Genoa defence and makes some headway, but his progress is eventually slowed and the visitors clear.

    The pitch at San Siro looks in pretty bad shape in all honesty. It is not making for the most fluid of games but Milan are trying their best to string some passes together.

    A momentary loss of concentration sees Thiago Silva give possession to Genoa but they are unable to capitalise as Massimo Ambrosini heads clear from a cross.

    Ronaldinho really looks in the mood tonight and attempts to jink his way past two players at once. If he pulls off one of these dribbles, Genoa are going to be in trouble.

    Gennaro Gattuso pulls out an overhead kick to send the ball into the box but he cannot find a Milan team-mate and Genoa clear. That's not like Rino.

    GOAL! Genoa take a shock lead when Rodrigo Palacio crosses from the right and Giuseppe Sculli arrives at the far post to stoop and head past Dida. That was poor marking from Milan.

    Alessandro Nesta is penalised for bringing down David Suazo and Milan need to respond here. No one quite expected Genoa to score, what kind of reaction can Leonardo inspire?

    Having been caught by Suazo as the Honduran striker fell to ground, Nesta is bleeding from the mouth and requires treatment on the sidelines.

    Milan need to get Andrea Pirlo into the game more as he is not being given the chance to dictate proceedings in midfield. Beckham has also been a bit isolated in the past ten minutes or so.

    PENALTY FOR MILAN! Ambrosini wins another spot-kick after collecting a chested pass from Boriello and being tripped by Amelia. That one was a pen. It was Beckham with the pass into Boriello, by the way.

    GOAL! This time Ronaldinho makes amends as he buries his spot-kick and sends Amelia the wrong way to make it 1-1 at San Siro.

    As Boriello argues with the referee after being denied a free kick, Beckham is alert and sends a shot into the side netting. Amelia would not have saved that.

    Ronaldinho flings himself to ground under contact on the edge of the box but the referee is not fooled. Play on.

    Beckham has the chance to shoot but the ball gets stuck under his boot. When he lays the ball off to Pirlo, it is too far in front of the Italian playmaker and Genoa are spared.

    Substitution for Genoa as Modesto comes on following an injury to Emiliano Moretti.

    GOAL! Thiago Silva makes it 2-1 to Milan! The Brazilian taps home from eight yards after a goalmouth scramble that saw Marco Boriello have a header cleared off the line and Ambrosini force Amelia into a fine save. Crazy stuff.

    Beckham produces a superb cross on the half-volley and Boriello only just fails to connect. Milan are in their element now.

    Palacio attempts to find a team-mate when using his head to flick on a lofted free kick but Dida collects with ease.

    Andrea Pirlo is caught in possession but wins a free kick as Omar Milanetto went in high on the midfielder.

    Milan surge forward again but the momentum seeps out of their move when Ronaldinho takes the ball wide and fires in a weak cross that Amelia gathers.

    Mesto's cross deflects off Antonini but Dida is in no danger as he gathers the ball. Not long left of the half now.

    Suazo wins a free kick by the sideline, but when the ball comes into the box the striker appeals in vain for a penalty when falling to ground.

    In a messy end to the half, Ambrosini is shown a yellow card and from the resulting set piece, Ivan Juric strikes a shot against the wall.

    HALF TIME Milan lead 2-1 after a dramatic first 45 minutes at San Siro. Ronaldinho missed a penalty before Giuseppe Sculli scored for Genoa. Ronaldinho then netted with his second attempt from 12 yards and Thiago Silva put Milan in front. Back in 15 mins!

    Okay, the players are back out at San Siro and we are just about ready to get going again.

    KICK OFF Milan get the second half underway

    GOAL! Boriello makes it 3-1! The striker scores for the fourth successive game at San Siro after tapping home following an unselfish pass from Antonini. Ronaldinho had played in the left back with a fine pass.

    Beckham attempts to pick out Ronaldinho with a searching pass from deep but his radar is off and Genoa deal with it easily.

    It really is a long way back for Genoa now. Sculli attempts to inject some life into his side when bursting into the box but his jinking run is brought to an end.

    Milan look very comfortable at present and it will take something extraordinary for them to foul things up from this position. You never know, though...

    Beckham attempts to unleash Boriello with a long ball over the top and though Genoa deal with the initial pass, Boriello makes a nuisance of himself and almost punishes the visitors.

    Nesta attempts to drill a long pass into Boriello but the striker has no chance of collecting that. This game is lacking a spark at present, unsurprisingly given Milan are in firm control.

    Brilliant from Ronaldinho as he produces his trademark trick, you know the one. Sadly the cross is not up to much.

    GOAL! Marco Boriello scores a superb fourth to put the result beyond doubt. Ambrosini chips the ball to the back post and Boriello executes a perfect overhead kick that bounces out of reach of Amelia and in off the far post. Wow.

    Well Milan can feel fairly confident that their work is done for tonight. Maybe they can put a few more on the scoreboard though.

    Milan make a change as former Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini replaces Andrea Pirlo.

    Albeto Zapater also comes on for Genoa and immediately tests Dida with a stinging free kick from 25 yards.

    Now Milan continue the string of substitutions as Marco Boriello comes off to be replaced by Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. The Dutchman has been linked with a move this January, can he impress tonight?

    Klaas-Jan Huntelaar gets confused for a second and thinks he is Marco van Basten, but the current Milan striker cannot emulate the former Rossoneri hero as his volley from a tight angle flies well wide.

    Domenico Criscito fires one just over the bar from 20 yards as Genoa go in search of a consolation. Nice effort from the defender.

    Gennaro Gattuso is through on goal and looking for a fifth but, true to form, he lacks the potency of a finisher and Amelia rushes off his line to save.

    PENALTY FOR MILAN! Ronaldinho is pulled down in the box by Marco Rossi.

    GOAL! Ronaldinho decides against taking a third spot-kick and instead Klaas-Jan Huntelaar steps up to bury his shot and claim his third Serie A goal of the season.

    David Beckham earns a standing ovation from the San Siro crowd as he is taken off by Leonardo. A good evening's work for the England man who showed some nice touches. Marek Jankulovski comes on in his place.
