4. Good evening all and welcome to live coverage of one of the world's biggest club games, its El Gran Clasico, Real Madrid versus Barcelona, and in terms of the Spanish title race, it could be massive.

5. With Barcelona four points ahead of their biggest rivals tonight's equation is simple; if they win the title is theirs, if they don't, the race is wide open. The stakes are huge and the occasion couldn't be bigger, as the teams emerge to a heaving and noisy Bernabeu.

   Xavi has the first strike at goal within 30 seconds but Casillas is across well to save.

   Robben roasts Abidal and wins a corner then whips the crowd into a frenzy. Make no mistake, Los Merengues are bang up for this.

   Messi's first involvement is poor as he rolls a lazy ball across the face of goal when Henry was waiting at the back post. Metzelder steps in.

    Messi buys a free kick in the centre of the field. A shameless dive. Might be a few of those knocking around tonight one feels.

    Eto'o has a pop at goal after decent approach play from Messi. Again, Casillas is down to save comfortably.

    Raul is penalised for haranging Abidal on the touchline after a poor ball from Valdes. Harsh, though his effort on goal was wide when he did get the ball.

    Both sets of players are having trouble hearing the whistle with such a cacophony of noise inside ths stadium. This is causing bother for the officials.

    A lovely move from Barca down the right is undone by a poor cross from Alves. He had to slide that low into the six yard box, but he went aerial and the chance was lost.

    A strange interlude as Messi chases a Puyol pass, clatters into Casillas after he'd shanked his attempted clearance and the foul is eventually given.

    Barca playing much like the home side in the opening stages, they've had all the possession while Madrid are playing on the break.

    A cracking goal as Ramos roasts Abidal down the right, stands up a beautiful cross and Higuain powers the header past Valdes. Great goal.

    Well, well, well! The Bernabeu goes collectively nuts! They smell Barca blood!

    What a chance for Barca to level! Henry skips down the right and beats Ramos, then tries to cross for Eto'o but the ball was high and fast and his fellow striker couldn't connect.

    Madrid may be ahead but they are looking wide open at the back. If Barca play their cards right, they won't be behind for long.

    Well, what did I say?! A cute chip from Messi finds Henry in the clear and he finishes superbly.

    Henry is running riot here, skipping past Diarra as if he isn't there, he outfoxes Cannavaro too but the wily defender hauls him down. Free kick.

    Sky can crap on as much as they like about the Premier League being the best in the world, but they should cop a load of this.

    Unbelievable game! Madrid nearly scored twice in the space of a minute. First Robben's shot was saved well by Valdes, then as Higuain smashed in a cross Toure gets a touch but it lands in Valdes' arms on the goal line.

    Robben goes down in a heap and Abidal is booked. The replay shows a stray arm was about, but Robben made a complete meal of it. You can only imagine my surprise.

    It should have been 3-1! Messi was put through by Alves but whacked his shot right at Casillas. He should have done better. What a game! Already!

    Finally, a bit of a lull! My fingers are literally burning...

    Casillas saves from Eto'o now as Xavi releases him. Madrid in tatters at the back, Barca not much better in truth.

    Puyol goes across to make sure Robben's attempted cross is poorly hit and Toure clears.

    What are they doing?! A quite sublime passing move opens Madrid up again, Xavi goes through into the box and instead of finishing tries to return it to Messi but he is crowded for space and Casillas saves low. Barca should be 5-1 up!

    Now Madrid force a corner as Marcelo looked to cross for Raul.

    Henry is released again down the left and crosses looking for Eto'o but Metzelder clears.

    Raul has a sniff of goal as he brings the ball down and smacks it goalward but his effort was always rising.

    Messi tries the cheekiest of efforts from almost the touchline, and isn't that far off. What a talent.

    Messi plays a one two with Xavi and has a pop with his swinger. Just wide.

    Messi has all the time in the world to pick his spot after nicking the ball off Diarra and streaking clear. Amazing.

    Eto'o nearly goes through as Barcelona carve Madrid open again. Madrid need something from somewhere. And soon.

    Puyol goes in whole heartedly and gets a yellow. He got a slice of the ball, but a big chunk of Ramos.

    Robben swings in the free kick and Puyol hacks clear at the second attempt. They'd love a goal before half time.

    Great tackle from Pique as Higuain looked to head down the left.

    Robben tries to free Raul but Puyol gets in the way. Barca chillaxing until half time it seems.

    Abidal has recovered after a shaky start and is putting pay to any Robben forrays down the right now.

    Barca are hunting the ball down ferociously whenever they lose it. Higuain was surrounded by seven players then as Marcelo chops down Messi and sees yellow.

    Brilliant save from Casillas! Alves smacked one round the wall and it bounced just in front of the keeper but he got a firm two hands on it. That's half time. A truly incredible 45 minutes of football!

    90 seconds in and chances at both ends, Heinze nearly gets round the back before Henry streaks down the left before he was met by Cannavaro.

    Iniesta is in on it now, nips round Cannavaro and fires a shot narrowly wide.

    Sublime skill from Henry as he loops the ball over Ramos and heads towards the byline. Robben is back to concede the corner.

    Marcelo cuts inside but then tries a stupid flick in the vague direction of Heinze when he should have piled on towards goal.

    Robben goes past Puyol, fells the breath of the back of his neck and goes down. Nothing doing with the ref though.

    Messi goes round the back again, making a mug of Metzelder, and tries an effort with his right from a very narrow angle but it was worth it as no-one was up in support with him.

    Madrid's fans are pretty despondent, despite the referee tackling Messi.

    Ramos buys a free kick on the wing as replays show Messi put a hand on the referee and gave him a little shove after he was tackled.

    Robben whacks in the free kick and there are three Barca players at the back stick waiting to pot it. Ramos gets there first. Game on...

    Ramos, the goalscorer, is roasted again as Henry runs past him and connects with the ball just as Casillas got to him. It trickled in and the game could be done and dusted.

    Messi has missed a sitter! Eto'o rolls it across goal and all he has to do is stroke the ball into the net but he inexplicably sends it wide.

    Henry is coming off and Ketia is on. What a game he's had. Many thought he was finished. He isn't.

    How much will Wednesday's game with Chelsea weigh on Guardiola's mind now I wonder? Does he think the job is done? Or leave all his big guns on and finish Madrid off?

    Messi embarrasses Metzelder again and slips Iniesta in, he refuses to hit it fiorst time in favour of more unnecessary twists and turns and though Cannavaro brings him down he doesn't get a pen. Sometime they should just hit the thing.

    Van der Vaart gets frustrated with Barca's keep ball and gets a booking. He hasn't touched the ball yet but he's hacked Iniesta down.

    Messi is unplayable in this mood. Xavi finds him inside the area as Madrid's pathetic defenders watched the ball, and he finishes from close range. Brilliant. Just brilliant.

    I've no allegiance either way but I have to say, its nice to see Madrid spanked like this. They've been poor this season by their standards, and were crushed by even a lacklustre Liverpool side in the Bernabeu. They're not a very good team.
