   Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tests Wigan keeper Chris Kirkland with a shot from a tight angle on the right wing - surely a mis-hit shot.

   Freekick to Wigan after a handball by Evra 35 yards out from goal to left of the keeper

   SENSATIONAL GOAL FOR WIGAN!!

    Leighton Baines opens the scoring with a thunderous drive from a neatly taken freekick - the ball was touched inside the wall and despite Scholes's attempt to charge the shot down Baines's drive was goal-bound.

    Wigan have the wind in their sails and sense that United are on the ropes - pressing ahead the home side have anither freekick in a similar position

    Another neatly worked freekick by Wigan but this time Denny Landzaat's effort flies over the bar

    Evra escapes after making a mistake in his own area under pressure from Gary Teale - he recovered with a clever drop of the shoulder; but United are still half asleep

    Camara is looking very dangerous today - bright and alert, he is riding the shoulder of the defender looking to use his pace to burst through on goal

    Carrick beats one man on the edge of the box and fires on goal with his left foot - high and wide, but nice to see the under-fire midfielder taking a shot

    Saha hits a loose ball on the turn from the edge of the box after a decent build up move from United

    Time for Wigan to re-assert themselves on the game: they were on top until a few miutes ago, but now United a looking more fluid

    After beating his marker on the right flank Solskjaer slips a clever ball into Rooney who is unlucky with his shot

    Wigan do well to soak-up a threatening United attack - with men behind the ball Wigan smothered the danger before trying to relase the pressure with pace down the flanks

    Despite battling back into the game United's formation is restricting their options. With Solskjaer playing wide right and Rooney wide left there is only Saha in the box: Saha likes to drop deep and the two makeshift wingers like to come inside meaning there is is no natural width and no out-and-out striker

    Wigan finally clear their lines, but Heskey looked uncertain on defensive duties in his own area

    United are bossing the game at the moment in midfield and on the few occassion Wigan break through Ferdinand looks assured

    Brilliant control and a great shot from Rooney ends with the ball slapping against the woodwork. Unlucky.

    Kilbane bursts through and slips a pass to Heskey before charging on. Heskey lets the side down though; instead of playing a simple ball inside to Scharner he passes to Kilbane in an offside position.

    Wigan thought they had a corner but a handball against Camara denies them

    Ferdinand gets a booking for the challenge on Heskey - not sure why, unless tackling has been outlawed!

    After a spell of pinball ricochets Baines gets a foot on the ball and begins a Wigan attack - great player, and it's his great goal separating the two sides

    Heskey does well to win the header and knock it back into the area, sadly for the Latics there was no one there to tuck away the loose ball

    United fail to clear their lines before Teale latches onto the loose ball and fire a great effort on goal from an acute angle

    More good work from Baines, he charges forward before releasing a ball outside to Teale, his cross was deep and was found by no-one - but a good spell from Wigan as they get back in the gaem

    That man Scholes again proving to be United key link-up man: this time he slips a ball to Carrick who threads a pass to Rooney was fires wide

    Rooney has a little talking to from the ref after the striker goes in on Kirkland - who for some reason didn't want to pick up the ball despite bending over it; asking for trouble and Rooney had every right to go for it.

    Solskjaer's run and cross down the right leads to a half-chance for Saha

    Now Emmerson Boyce has the pleasure of a quiet word with the ref after seamingly trying to play football...

    Teale shows a great turn of pace to latch onto a mistake by Rooney, but Rooney equals his pace by charging back to tackle Teale and rectify the mistake of his own making

    Good chance for Wigan as United commit too many men: Wigan broke but the final ball across the box was just too strong for Camara and Heskey

    Yellow card for O'Shea after tripping Baines who was on the rampage after a mistake from Scholes created a huge hole in the United midfield

    Wigan just about deserve their lead, but have been on the ropes at times. Rooney was unluckly with a great turn and shot of the bar, but other than that United don't look the complete side and are obviously missing the injured Ronaldo and bench-warming Giggs.

    A great move from United ends with a great technical strike from Saha - who just moments ago was taken an earbashing! Rooney created the goal with a lively run down the left before firing in a good cross for Saha who controlled the low ball well before hitting a half-volley on the turn. Good goal, good move.

     Approaching the last ten minutes of the game and it's difficult to see how United can blow this one. Famous last words?

     3-1 is cruel on Wigan who battled hard and scored a great goal through Baines, but while they were the better team in the first half United bossed the second.

     Solsjaer looked very good today and his goal means he has now scored 5 in 8 games since his comeback. The game changed with the halftime introduction of Giggs which freed Rooney to find his form and influence the game.
