Manchester City – Tottenham Hotspur

1. Welcome and thanks for joining us for live commentary of Manchester City v Tottenham.

2. We will bring you all the latest team news as it breaks.

3. Man City can go within two points of Premier League leaders Man United with a win, while Tottenham would need to win by three goals to improve their league standing of sixth.

4. Ok, we have the team news and there are interesting selections on both sides...

5. Man City team to face Tottenham: Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Nastasic, Clichy, Yaya Toure, Barry, Kolarov, Tevez, Silva, Aguero.

6. David Silva returns to the Man City team and starts alongside Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez.

7. Tottenham team to face Man City: Friedel, Walker, Caulker, Gallas, Vertonghen, Sandro, Huddlestone, Lennon, Dempsey, Bale, Adebayor.

8. Jermain Defoe is dropped from the Spurs team. Emmanuel Adebayor and Clint Dempsey start.

9. Manchester City subs: Pantilimon, Kolo Toure, Sinclair, Garcia, Dzeko, Razak and Maicon.

10. Tottenham subs: Lloris, Naughton, Dawson, Livermore, Carroll, Sigurdsson and Defoe.

11. Michael Oliver will be today's man in charge. It is just his second top-flight game since September, when Chelsea's win over Stoke erupted into a diving row.

12. Let's hope today's game lives up to last season's cracker. City were 3-2 victors on that day but Spurs ran them close. Defoe was inches away from putting his side into the lead in injury time before Balotelli slotted home the winner from the penalty spot just moments later.

13. City will be desperate for a win today following back-to-back draws, while Spurs will be hoping for a repeat of the last time they were in Manchester, seeing off United 3-2.

14. Adebayor is saying hello to his former City team-mates in the tunnel. Today is a huge day for him. If he scores, will he celebrate in front of the City fans, a la Arsenal?

15. The teams are out onto the pitch. We are moments away from kick-off...

16. A minute's silence has just been observed in the Etihad Stadium in honour of Remembrance Day.

17. 1'

    And we're off...

18. 1'

No boos for Adebayor as he gets his first touch of the ball.

19. 1'

Adebayor is having to change the colour of the tape around his socks as it is not the same colour.

20. 2'

City getting on the ball and playing it around nicely. Caulker just manages to get the ball off Tevez.

21. 3'

Walker tries to force his way down the right but is dispossessed by Clichy.

22. 3'

Aguero is onside as the ball is played over the top but Friedel does well to get to it first.

23. 4'

It's a little bit scrappy at the minute with plenty of challenges flying in.

24. 5'

Tottenham getting ten men behind the ball early on and will be looking to counter. That is perhaps why Adebayor has got the nod ahead of Defoe as AVB will be looking at him to hold the ball up.

25. 6'

Adebayor is dropping deep at times to get on the ball.

26. 6'

Toure wins the ball well and Silva tries to slot in Zabaleta but the pass is just overhit.

27. 7'

Clichy brings down Lennon after the winger showed some quick feet to knock the ball past him.

28. 7'

That could be a key battle today...

29. 8'

City happy to knock it around patiently, waiting for a gap to open up.

30. 9'

Clichy tries to send a ball in from the left but Gallas does well to intercept.

31. 10'

Spurs have been pretty wasteful in possession when they have had it.

32. 10'

Aguero again breaks clear down the middle, following the ball from Clichy, but the weight of the pass is just too much for the striker.

33. 10'

Spurs will have to watch that.

34. 11'

Barry tries to slot a pass into the area but it deflects off for the corner.

35. 11'

Tottenham manage to clear the corner at the near post.

36. 12'

City will be pleased with this start. They have had to make Spurs work in this opening 12 minutes.

37. 13'

The weight of their passing has just been a little too much to play in Aguero as another another long ball runs out for a goal kick.

38. 14'

Kolarov fires a free-kick into the box but it is wasteful and easy for Friedel to deal with.

39. 15'

Some nice link-up play between Aguero and Tevez. Aguero takes a tumble in the box under pressure from Walker but the referee waves play on.

40. 16'

Zabaleta brings down Bale for the free-kick. The first time the winger has had a chance to run at the full back.

41. 15'

Kolarov is forced to head the resulting free-kick off for the corner.

42. 15'

Caulker challenges for the corner but his header takes a deflection for another corner.

43. 18'

Sandro puts in a strong challenge on Silva but the referee tells the City player to get up.

44. 19'

Tottenham go close as Adebayor flicks a header on for Lennon but the winger is just unable to get the required contact. Adebayor tries to follow it up but Hart smothers the ball.

45. 20'

Aguero brings down Lennon in a dangerous position for Spurs.

46. 21'

    <img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL FOR TOTTENHAM. CAULKER.</b>

47. 21'

Huddlestone sends in a peach of a cross from the resulting free-kick and Caulker rises highest to head home. Hart gets a touch to it but not enough to keep it out. Should have done better.

48. 22'

Mancini won't be pleased with the marking there. Once again their defending at set-pieces lets them down.

49. 23'

Spurs will be delighted. That was probably their best spell of the half so far, leading up to that goal.

50. 24'

Penalty shout for City turned down. Silva dinks in a lovely ball to Aguero in the box. The striker tries to turn past Gallas and it looks suspiciously like the defender stopped him with his hand.

51. 25'

I've seen them given before but it would have been harsh on Gallas there.

52. 25'

A fantastic counter from Spurs as Adebayor breaks into City's half. He runs into the box before teeing up Huddlestone on the edge of the box who smashes an effort just wide of the post.

53. 26'

Adebayor is leading the line well so far. AVB will be pleased.

54. 26'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Walker goes into the book for a late tackle on Clichy.

55. 27'

Adebayor does well to help bring an end to a City move before being brought down by Zabaleta. Nice hold-up play from the striker.

56. 29'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Zabaleta gets booked after bringing down Adebayor once again.

57. 30'

Huddlestone sends in the free-kick. Spurs knock it around the area before Bale eventually gets a header in on goal but it was never troubling Hart.

58. 31'

City have seen a lot of the ball but their final delivery has been frustrating. Spurs are sticking to their game plan and it has been very effective so far.

59. 32'

Kolarov misplaces a pass after some good pressing from Tottenham. Things are not going the way City want it at the moment.

60. 33'

Another penalty shout turned down for City. Silva plays in Zabaleta in the area. Huddlestone appears to obstruct him as the full back falls to the ground. Lucky to get away with it.

61. 35'

Kolarov inches away as Aguero tees up the left back on the edge of the area. He tries to dink it towards the corner of the goal but it just sails wide. Friedel appeared to have it covered.

62. 36'

Huddlestone sends in another free-kick from deep for Spurs but it is headed clear.

63. 37'

City are giving away plenty of cheap free-kicks here which will not please Mancini.

64. 38'

Huddlestone sends in a free-kick from the exact same position as the goal but this time City head it clear.

65. 38'

Tevez tries to whip in a ball into the box but Friedel deals with it comfortably.

66. 40'

Nice nice defending from Walker who stops Kolarov in his tracks. The left back responds by conceding the foul.

67. 41'

A chance for City as Kolarov gets a nice touch on Zabaleta's ball into the box. It fall to Aguero but he can only blaze his effort wide.

68. 42'

An even better chance for City as they break through Toure's ball over the top of the Spurs defence to Silva. The Spaniard could have gone for the shot himself but he squares it to Tevez. The striker's effort is weak and Friedel gets down low to make the save.

69. 44'

Huddlestone sends in another inch-perfect free-kick from deep but City do well to head it clear.

70. 45'

Lennon tries to pick out Adebayor in a dangerous position but he just overhits the pass.

71. 45'

City are losing their own rhythm every time they give away a free-kick to Spurs. The away team will be more than happy with that.

72. 45'

City go close through Zabaleta as Silva does brilliantly to slot a ball through to find the run of the full back in the box. It gets stuck under Zabaleta's foot a little and he can't connect with the shot properly. Friedel is able to get down low and make a decent save.

73. 45'

There goes the half-time whistle. A few boos ringing around the Etihad...

74. 45'

Tottenham will be absolutely delighted with how that first half has gone. They have stuck to their game plan of hitting City on the break and it has worked. The home side have been giving away plenty of cheap free-kicks and that was what led to Caulker's goal. While City have seen a lot of possession they have been fairly wasteful in the final third. They will need to improve in the second half. And stop giving away free-kicks.

75. 45'

City have not lost at home in the league for almost two years. Could that run be coming to an end this afternoon?

76. 45'

    <img src="http://soccernet.espn.go.com/design05/images/2012/1111/stevencaulkergoalvmancity_275x155.jpg"><br>Steven Caulker heads home Tottenham's opener.

77. 46'

    And we're off...

78. 46'

City start from where they left off by conceding a free-kick. Kolarov the culprit this time.

79. 47'

A nice move from City sees Tevez play in Zabaleta whose cross is deflected off for a corner.

80. 49'

Adebayor starting to get booed now.

81. 50'

The City crowd get behind there team for what feels like the first proper time during this match.

82. 50'

This half has been quite stop and start already, just the like the first, which plays into Tottenham's hands.

83. 51'

Spurs pressing really well today. City are forced to send the ball all the way back to Hart.

84. 52'

Silva and Aguero play a lovely one-two but the Spaniard's touch lets him down at the just the wrong time.

85. 53'

You do feel that if City are to find a goal then Silva will be involved.

86. 53'

Silva tries to play in Tevez but the striker is offside.

87. 54'

A poor Gallas header nearly lets in Aguero but it goes out for the corner.

88. 54'

Kolarov sends it in towards Kompany but the City skipper can only head it over.

89. 55'

Toure plays a wonderful ball over the top to pick out Aguero but the striker is unable to bring the ball down when he would have been through on goal.

90. 56'

Spurs tried to play offside there but got it all wrong.

91. 56'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Maicon comes on for Nastasic.

92. 57'

City have changed to three at the back with Zabaleta, Kompany and Clichy.

93. 58'

Toure again playing the long ball from deep, searching for Tevez. This time Spurs get the offside trap right.

94. 58'

It will be interesting to see how the three at the back fairs this time out. Mancini obviously feeling that with Spurs only playing on the counter-attack this system will be to their advantage.

95. 59'

Adebayor does well to win a throw. He has worked hard today.

96. 60'

Friedel called into action as he denies Toure at his near post from close-range.

97. 61'

Lennon tries to get on the end of a pass but it is just overhit. Lennon and Bale should really be brought into this game a little bit more, especially with City only having three at the back now.

98. 63'

Dempsey sets up Bale on the edge of the box but he can only drag his effort wide of the post.

99. 65'

Kolarov tries to swing in a ball from the left but Gallas gets it clear.

100. 65'

     <img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL FOR CITY. AGUERO.</b>

101. 65'

City break and get a little luck as the ball bounces off Toure and falls into the path of Aguero. The striker turns Caulker in the box before calmly slotting past Friedel.

102. 66'

Spurs instantly break down the other end of the pitch as Lennon cuts infield and picks out Bale. The Welshman wastes the chance and decides to shoot when he should have played in Adebayor. The shot was blazed over.

103. 68'

Maicon picks up the ball on the right and Vertonghen allows the right back to send a dangerous ball across the face of the goal but nobody is there to meet it.

104. 69'

This game has really come to life since that equaliser. Both teams showing a lot more attacking intent.

105. 70'

A strong challenge from Sandro leaves Toure riding in pain on the floor. Ouch.

106. 71'

Toure is receiving treatment at the moment.

107. 71'

Dzeko is getting ready to come on for City...

108. 71'

Huddlestone tries to pick out the run of Dempsey from a free-kick but Zabaleta does well to intercept the pass.

109. 72'

Silva tees up Tevez on the edge of the box who makes some space before firing a shot just wide of Friedel's right-hand post.

110. 72'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Dzeko comes on for Tevez. He has made a big impact off the bench recently for City.

111. 74'

Bale does brilliantly to dispossess Toure before managing to fire in a shot at Hart's goal. The keeper does well to tip it away.

112. 74'

Zabaleta and Adebayor tangle once again. The ref waves play on as Toure looks to send a ball over the top but just overhits it.

113. 76'

This match is finely poised for the final 15 minutes...

114. 76'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Adebayor is booked for the challenge on Zabaleta.

115. 77'

<img src="http://soccernet.espn.go.com/design05/images/2012/1111/sergioaguerogoalvtottenham_275x155.jpg"><br>Aguero slots home the equaliser.

116. 77'

Barry tries to force something down the right but Sandro is there to stop him. Sandro has been everywhere in this second half.

117. 78'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif">Dawson comes on for Walker. Gallas is moving over to right back.

118. 79'

Huddlestone searches for the run of Dempsey but just fails to find him.

119. 79'

Maicon plays an early ball into Silva but Friedel and Dawson are there to block his effort.

120. 79'

Dzeko rises above Dawson to head the resulting corner just wide. Unlucky.

121. 80'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Defoe comes on for Adebayor. He has put in a good shift today.

124. 82'

125. 83'

Spurs are under pressure big time at the moment.

126. 84'

Friedel makes a great save to deny Tevez before getting up once again to smother it. Superb goalkeeping.

127. 85'

Spurs are hanging on big time here.

128. 85'

Vertonghen tries to pick out Defoe in the middle but Clichy just manages to get it clear despite a heavy touch.

129. 86'

Dawson does well to head clear a dangerous Maicon cross.

130. 86'

Maicon is causing Vertonghen huge problems. He gets past the left back but just overhits his cross.

131. 87'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Lennon comes off for Naughton.

     Spurs are shutting up shop.

133. 88'

     <img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL FOR CITY. DZEKO.</b>

134. 88'

Silva spots Dzeko with a fantastic dinked pass into the box and the striker does brilliantly to smash home his effort past the helpless Friedel. Fine goal.

135. 89'

You have to say that goal was coming. In the run-up to that goal Vertonghen was caught out of position again. He has been poor in these closing stages of the game.

136. 90'

Penalty shout for Spurs as Defoe is played through on goal. Clichy does well to close him down but appears to bring him down in the box. I have seen them given.

137. 90'

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Aguero makes way for Garcia.

140. 90'

Vertonghen is out of position but Bale does well to fend off Toure.

141. 90'

City keeping the ball to the frustration of Spurs.

142. 90'

     Time is ticking for Spurs...

143. 90'

Bale sends a ball into the box but Hart is first to it. He clears it and there goes the full-time whistle.

144. 90'

So job done for City in the end there. After a lacklustre first-half display they came fighting back and ultimately deserved the three points. Spurs tried to hang on but just failed to do so. Performances from Aguero, Silva and Toure proved to be the difference.
