West Bromwich Albion – Chelsea

1. It's second top versus rock bottom at the Hawthorns as Chelsea go in seek of the win against West Brom that would restore them to the summit of the Premier League.

2. Carlo Cudicini plays in goal for the Blues in the absence of the injured Petr Cech and at the other end Nicolas Anelka will be looking to add to his brace of goals last week against Blackburn.

3. Roman Bendnar and Ishmael Miller will be looking to do the damage for Tony Mowbray's men in what promises to be an entertaining encounter. Didier Drogba will be distributing alms from the Chelsea bench.

4. The game gets underway with the Blues in yellow. The Baggies are straight in to the attack and James Morrison goes ever so close with a fierce drive that goes just over the Chelsea crossbar. Promising start for the Baggies.

5. 1'

Jose Bosingwa's cross from the right is well dealt with by Jonas Olsson in the heart of the West Brom defence.

6. 4'

Florent Malouda tries to play in Anelka but ovehits his pass and West Brom are able to clear.

7. 5'

Roman Bednar chases a long ball but lacking support is unable to hold on to the ball. West Brom win a throw but the ball eventually goes behind for a Chelsea goal-kick.

8. 7'

Boria Valero's shot is scuffed but it almost turns in to a pass towards Miller who does not quite have the legs to capatalise on his teammate's mis-hit effort.

9. 8'

Frank Lampard looks up and sees the onrushing Deco tearing through the Baggies defence. His long pass is just too strong for the Portuguese midfielder though.

10. 10'

The camera has just panned to the Chelsea bench and it would be fair to say from the warm attire they are sporting that is is a chilly evening in the West Midlands.

11. 11'

Malouda seizes the ball well and plays it out to Wayne Bridge whose whipped cross is knocked behind for a corner.

12. 12'

The corner is cleared and Deco is forced back to make a fine covering tackle for the visitors.

13. 13'

Miller goes up against Ivanovic and wins a throw for the home side.

14. 14'

West Brom lose possession but win it back and Valero feeds it to Miller who squares it invitingly across the Chelsea six yard box but there is nobody in a Baggies shirt to score what would surely have been a simple goal.

15. 16'

At the other end, Kalou whacks a shot high in to the West Brom crowd who are more than happy with their new gift.

16. 16'

Great tackle by John Terry on Miller which wins thunderous applause from the Chelsea fans.

17. 17'

Bednar runs in Ivanovic at the back and Chelsea are proving rock solid in defence this evening. At the other end, Meite puts in a good challenge on Anelka before Malouda again hits a shot high and wide.

18. 20'

The Baggies attack once more and Miller tries an 'ambitious' effort which would have looked great nestling in the back of Cudicini's goal but ended up looking somewhat silly in the back of the stand behind the Chelsea keeper.

19. 21'

Frank Lampard almost scores the opener as he races through against Scott Carson but the Baggies man comes off best, pulling off a good save as he stood firm.

20. 23'

There is a measured control to Chelsea when they are in possession whereas West Brom's forays upfield have the feel of a smash and grab about them. They will be hoping to make one of these raids count if they are to grab the win against the Blues today.

21. 25'

Bosingwa's cross from the right causes panic in the heart of the West Brom defence but they manage to scramble the ball away before launching a counter attack. Miller manages to get a cross in from the right but this time Chelsea clear. End to end stuff here.

22. 26'

Miller again puts the Chelsea defence under pressure but Cudicini comes to smother his cross as again nobody from the home side was able to support the West Brom attack.

23. 27'

Paul Robinson concedes a sloppy corner whilst under no pressure by chesting the ball behind.

24. 28'

Malouda crosses but Bednar gets back to concede another corner. This time Lampard takes it but Greening this time is on hand to perform the defensive duties.

25. 29'

Lampard cushions a header back in to the path of the offside Nicolas Anelka whom the linesman has noticed.

26. 30'

Great play from Deco to feed his midfield partner Lampard. Anelka then receives the ball but his pass through is blocked.

27. 31'

Malouda scampers away and in the absence of any sort of challenge from the West Brom players he is offered the perfect sight of goal from twenty yards which he takes aim at. It brings the best save of the game so far though from Carson who throws himself low to his right to parry the ball away.

28. 33'

GOAL: Jose Bosingwa has hit a screamer that nobody saw coming!

29. 33'

Bosingwa belts home a shot from thirty yards which totally fooled Carson. It looked as it Bosingwa was looking to cross but he fires it home from an acute angle.

30. 35'

Shortly after that Florent Malouda goes close for the Blues as Chelsea look to tun the screw on West Brom.

31. 37'

GOAL: And turn the screws they have. It's that man Nicolas Anelka again as he speeds away from the desperately backtracking West Brom defence before lifting it effortlessly over Carson.

32. 40'

The only noise coming from the Hawthorns now is coming from the joyous band of Chelsea fans who are enjoying another fine performance from their side today. They should be going back to the top of the table in an hour or so.

33. 42'

The two goals have knocked the stuffing out of West Brom a bit who had at least looked like they were causing Chelsea a few problems with their spirited attacks. A goal for them before the break would make all the difference but you just can't see it coming at the minute.

34. 44'

Chelsea go in search of a third and they look as if they smell blood. They don't get it this time though with Lampard's pass towards Anelka going astray.

35. 45'

GOAL: Another fantastic goal for Anelka. Kalou dances through the West Brom defence evading a few tackles before feeding the unstoppable Anelka who this time places it to the side of Carson who may be pleased to hear the half-time whistle...

36. 45'

HALF-TIME: Blimey. Chelsea have quite simply blown their hosts away which would be jolly bad manners at a dinner party but in the cut and thrust world of Premier League football it is this sort of awesome strength that wins titles.

37. 45'

The second half is underway and this is only going to go one way you feel. If Chelsea feel the need to apply more pressure then you feel Scott Carson could be picking a fw more balls from his net in the next forty five minutes.

38. 47'

Greening's through ball is blocked and Chelsea build from the back. Lampard's lovely pass finds Malouda who is pushed just too wide to get a decent angle for a shot. Which is for Carson whose save is made easier by the angle.

39. 49'

The Baggies are conceding three goals a game on average recently which, for all the neat football they play, is not the sort of statistic that keeps you in the Premier League come May.

40. 50'

Malouda this time returns the favour with a pass to Lampard in the West Brom area but the England man is crowded out and West Brom get it away. John Terry then brings Miller crashing to earth and earns the game's first yellow card.

41. 51'

Miller chases a long ball with Ivanovic, a race which the Chelsea man wins and he is then offered the bonus point of a free-kick much to the consternation of the home crowd.

42. 53'

A marvellous tackle on Deco from Robinson denies the Portuguese what would have been a certain goal from close range. Deco then tries his luck from thirty yards after the corner but his effort is just over.

43. 55'

Great tackle at the other end from Bosingwa on Miller and Chelsea break quickly. The ball is played up to Anelka and Olsson stretches to put his shot behind for a corner.

44. 56'

Chelsea make little of the corner but they are carving the Baggies open at will here. Meanwhile Bosingwa joins Terry in the book for a late challenge.

45. 57'

Morrison was the recipient of Bosingwa's tackle and looks as if he may be forced from the game as as result. Indeed he is being helped from the pitch to be replaced by Teixeira.

46. 59'

And the substitue almost makes a remarkable impact on the game. With his first touch he cuts sharply in from the wing, with his second he belts a fine shot just over Cudicini's crossbar.

47. 60'

Kalou wins a corner at the other end for Chelsea and Malouda almost scores with a header from three yards out when the ball is played over.

48. 63'

Zuiverloon loses out to Malouda and Chelsea break in numbers. Bosingwa dances around on the right, Deco then takes over but Kalou delivers the final touch which is a disappointing shot after such a careful, patient build-up.

49. 64'

Miller wins a free-kick and the decision brings sarcastic applause for the referee from the home crowd.

50. 65'

Greening's free-kick is straight at Cudicini though and asks no questions of the Chelsea defence.

51. 66'

Zuiverloon's cross is whipped in from the right and Cudicini is forced to tap it away as he comes for it and realises it is too high. A let-off for the Chelsea keeper.

52. 68'

Meite is being replaced by Ryan Donk for the Baggies.

53. 68'

Malouda receives a pass near the West Brom penalty area but is reluctant to take the opportunity to shoot, choosing instead to feed Lampard who will not thank him as he slides painfully in to Olsson as he slipped.

54. 71'

Robinson concedes a corner and the heads hvae well and truly gone down amongst the home team. From the corner, Anelka almost grabs his hat-trick but Donk deflects his shot over. The referee had already blown for a foul on Carson though as the ball was played over.

55. 72'

It gets better for West Brom. Didier Drogba is stripped and primed for action.

56. 73'

Donk starts a nice passing move from the West Brom defence but Chelsea smother out the danger and the move breaks down. Malouda then has another chance to trouble Carson but fails to take it, snatching at his shot.

57. 74'

    Anelka makes way for Drogba.

58. 75'

Malouda gets back to concede a corner - West Brom's first of the game. Valero takes it and almost immediately the whistle blows as the ball sails over the line and out of play. Which kind of sums up the sort of day West Brom are having.

59. 77'

Chelsea have more luck with a corner of their own with Deco's effort managing to stay in play but not evading the first West Brom head it passes. Meanwhile Ivanovic picks up the third Chelsea booking of the day.

60. 79'

Mikel's sloppy pass is seized on quickly by the alert Koren who advances in a promising position but West Brom lack the attacking prowess to capatalise on the situation and Chelsea soak up the pressure with ease.

61. 81'

At least they have another corner but Chelsea get this one away. West Brom attack once more through Valero whose inviting cross finds Kim. The substitute executes a smart volley which whizzes just wide of the Chelsea goal. Good move by the Baggies.

62. 84'

Bosingwa flops to the floor under pressure from Teixeira and wins a free-kick. Meanwhile John Terry is being replaced by Paulo Ferreira.

63. 85'

Deco's free-kick looks as if it may be knocked in by a marginally offside-looking Michael Ballack but it goes over him and reaches Malouda at the back post. He tries a diving header but can't keep it on target as the goal beckoned.

64. 88'

Cudicni claims the ball after a deflection took the sting out of a shot as West Brom threatened through Kim.

65. 89'

Wonderful ball in from Bosingwa who is having a superb game down the right. Chelsea have now won another corner and they are still pressing for the goal which their play in this half deserves.

66. 90'

Drogba closes in on goal as the corner is played across but has to settle for another as his shot is blocked. Chelsea fail to make anything of the corner. Not long left now for the battered Baggies backline.

67. 92'

FULL-TIME: Awesome stuff from Chelsea who underlined the disparity between top and bottom of the division in emphatic style. That's their tenth away league win on the bounce. No disgrace to lose heavily to this Chelsea side but Tony Mowbray will be hoping for a swift response from his West Brom team against fellow relegation favorites Stoke next week.
